Hyperpop Punk Backstory infos

background: wally was "abandoned" as a child and taken into a church orphanage. this orphanage wasn’t in good condition and was under poor management. which lend to many children being abused. and since wally was the most "rambunctious and rebellious" he got punished a lot. which lend him to sent to a place where they tried to "train" him to become "functional". this made him miss a part of his education. they would train by abusing him more, injecting him with experimental drugs and other cruel ways. this ;end his eyes to be mostly constrict. but this only made hime more violent and rabid. this caused him to be brought to asylum, which he spent the rest of his teen years. and even then he was still abused here. then he met Barnaby when he was sent to the asylum. wally had attacked him the first time, splitting barnaby’s ears with his teeth. in which Wally got a part of his ears bit off. but after Barnaby saw how dehumanizing wally was treated and offered conversation. in which wally immediately became ecstatic and converse back. they spent a good year or so there togather, their bond growing stronger. wally had even fought a caretaker when they harmed Barnaby, his face face got slashed. some time passed and one day a fire had started. probably due to a worker stupidly leaving a lit cigarette around. Barnaby immediately went to wally and let him know. wally bit barnaby free of his jacket and barnaby was able to get them out. they then watched the building burned.

wally then lived at Barnaby’s home, with ms. beagle. soon he was brought along to howdy’s bar and wally started to hang there a lot. Then Ms beagle dies and Barnaby request to be left alone. wally obliges but doesn’t really have a place to live now. he goes around picking fights but also finds himself in pain more and more. the drugs are taking a toll on him. soon some one takes him in, home. Home takes him in, seeing the poor state he's in and starts to take care of him as he fell ill. home then give him meds that help to relief pain and such. the meds are mysterious as home pulls them out of his door mouth.

soon wally gets better and Barnaby recovers from his grief, realizing that he left his friend helpless. wally tells of his new living situation and Barnaby feels relive after meeting home.

cast: julie was summon by wally and frank and has hanged around ever since. howdy runs the bar wally and barnaby frequent. poppy cooks for the bar, making little cakes and such. sally is a preformer at the bar. frank had attended that bar with his (ex) boyfriend sunny. Eddie was introduced to the place later after he woke up confuse surrounded by the gang. (after frank and sunny broke up) and started dating frank after some pining.

sunny was kicked out and banished by wally after one of his pranks accidentally injured and innocnet bystander (eddie).

So, we know how the theory of Wally being sentient came up with clues from the site. But now I wonder how this would apply for the sentient swap au instead! Like, I could see Frank's blinking gif put out the morse code for H-E-L-P as his little nod. Or maybe something a little more obvious like the faces of the characters start to grimace the more you load their character pages over and over on the neighborhood page. Perhaps it would have new and different secrets instead?

AHHHH I SWEAR ALL THESE ASKERS ARE MIND READERS!!

To answer your question, YES! That’s EXACTLY what I was going for!! There will be new “secrets” for each character too!!

On the neighborhood page, Wally’s is the only one who’s looking the other way, everyone else is staring directly at you!! That one was kinda a given!

Frank: For Frank’s blinking gif, it could be cool if he blinked out SOS. Their neighborhood page would change slightly, as the books that he would be holding would have papers falling out (underlined and circled with red marker) and he’s looking a LOT more tired. I love the idea of the neighborhood page getting more different the more you refresh it! Frank here would look more annoyed, eyebrows raised in that “really?” fashion. Perhaps the link above would also change to a phrase, “Frankly, I find that quite annoying…”

Howdy: Perhaps the items in his shop has lil messages in them! (Ex: Bag of beans would instead say “Help” or perhaps even spell out a sentence if you find all the words on the items!) His neighborhood page would also change, his hair a lot more disheveled, his hand gripping onto the grocery bag a little bit too tightly, and one of his hands holding onto a bottle. If you refresh the page too much, then he will be skewed more to the left of the page (almost as if he’s trying to escape!) “I don’t wanna be here right now….”

Julie: The notable secret message about Julie is the one with her and her siblings in the About Us Section (you know the one!) On the website, there’s a secret hidden message that is only revealed if you highlight it (this is also under the picture)! It reads “They will come back.” Julie’s neighborhood page is the one that changes the most, as her hair is ripped out in many places. If you refresh the page, her character will inch towards the screen, almost as if she wants to fight ya! The link above reads “What do YOU want?”

Barnaby: Barnaby has quite a few secrets that he left, most of them are in that slideshow section in the About Welcome Home! You know that one picture where Wally is drawing on a book while Barnaby watches? The roles are flipped this time! Barnaby is holding the book with a mildly concerned expression while Wally asks him about it. “You’re reading books now, Barnaby?” “Nah, just one, kid.” “I wonder what it’s about…” The text is all echoey… His neighborhood page won’t change much, he would still be juggling but there’s bags under his eyes. Refresh the page and you would get this “Uh… Okay..?” He would look mildly confused.

Sally: Sally doesn’t have a lot of secrets that she left, the one related to her is that day/night motif that keeps coming up around the website. She’s the one who changes the least in her neighborhood page, her pose stays exactly the same even if you refresh it a bunch of times! Her link also stays the same since she REALLY wants to stay in character.

Eddie: Not many secrets are left by him! There are a few, such as the picture where he and Frank are standing next to each other and there’s a secret message right to them. However, instead of the message saying “Hello You” it instead reads “Hiya!” (Hes trying to be friendly!) Eddie’s neighborhood bio doesn’t change much, but the notable thing is his mailbag (which seems to be overflowing with letters and papers). If you refresh the page, his link reads “Hiya, neighbor!”

Poppy: Again, doesn’t leave much. Or rather, she doesnt leave anything at all (at least not directly). You gotta REALLY dig deep if you wanna see Poppy’s messages. Ex: In the OG Welcome Home, if you type “voywex” in the link bar, you get Wally typing to you! Here in this AU, you get Poppy instead! “Hello? Are you there? Can you see me? Be careful.” Poppy’s neighborhood bio doesn’t change much other than the fact that she holds a needle and a thread. If you refresh the page, Poppy’s feathers will look a bit more frazzled! “Please be careful…”

Wally: Wally does NOT leave any secret messages! As I mentioned before, on his neighborhood page, he will be the only one looking away from the viewer. If you refresh his page a bunch of times, Wally won’t do anything!

Home: Home is always watching Wally in the website. It doesn’t really leave secrets, the only secret is in Wally’s bio! If you refresh the page, sure, Wally won’t do anything… but Home does. Usually, Home will be looking at Wally. But if you refresh the page, Home will be looking at you.

After a couple years of wally living in the neighborhood... Elizabeth & dante moved in.

Wally & Elizabeth fell in love very fast, and we're a very close couple... Opposites attract in a sense.

However, soon Elizabeth found out about his cellar, and cannibalistic murderingas accidentally, and left... Like immediately. Packed her bags, took dante and left the neighborhood with him... She was afraid and disgusted. Wally found she left without even a note the following day...

"why didn't wally just mind control Elizabeth, and bring her back? Reset the day, erase her memory?"

Because he was so angry that Elizabeth left in the first place... And he realized (which he should've realized long before) Elizabeth wouldn't love him for who he really was, only who he pretended to be... A Saint, innocent. He wanted to forget her, forget dante... He wanted them gone from his life, and he never saw them again after that.

Wally erased the neighbors memories of Elizabeth and dante... But poppy of course, still remembers everything. (as she's the only one who's mind wally can't control, that lore was established beforehand)

~Turnabout of feelings~

Part 2/3

Word count: 2200~

You were sitting on the colourful wooden chairs in Poppy's barn. The rims of the orange seats were painted yellow, while the purple seats were painted blue. You always liked colour, or you think you did; maybe it’s a taste you developed after being stuck here for however long it’s been.

Poppy was a colourful chick, that’s for sure; her feathers could do with a lot less frazzling, though. Julie was energetic as always, making the clinks and clanks of the kitchen start a rhythm of sorts. Tea was served a while ago. It was chamomile.

You wondered if you could go back to Howdy’s bodega or if it would mess up this run. Wally would probably know. Speaking of Wally, he didn’t come with you today; there was a little difference in the sequence, but it wasn’t the first time.

The paper bag filled with green and red paint and other edible things sat on the chair adjacent to you. Red and green for the apples he drew. His art was usually the biggest clue to his sanity. Apples meant safety, spirals meant danger, and eyes meant that he was currently observing something. Not in the normal way, however. He saw into your world. The real world Every time you’d mention it, he’d restart the run. It was frustrating.

The only way you could contact anything in your world was with Eddie. The chatty fellow had the most outside knowledge, even if he was often gaslit into believing those places didn’t exist. You couldn’t prove or tell him those places existed straightforwardly. So, you stuck to asking him to describe these ‘fictional’ places.

It was a comfort; listening to him describe things you knew existed made you feel less mad. Less alone.

You and Eddie quickly became best friends. It led to a peculiar development, though. Wally started painting different shots of your hometown and of your apartment complex, your landlord’s face, your family, your friends, your exes, and your childhood pets. It was horrifying; every time he gave you the drawing, you quickly tore it up and burned it. Wally never frowned, since he couldn't, but his eyes would dilate for a split second and quickly go back to their regular size.

Maybe it was a taunt, a means to scare you. Or maybe it’s something else like j-

A loud crash interrupts your train of thought.

Julie had turned the kitchen upside down, literally.

"Julie! Dearie, are you alright?" Poppy squeaked at Julie, who was currently underneath a giant pile of pots and pans.

Oh, I’m quite alright! Haha! This was quite fun! Don’t you think?" Julie asked you while dusting herself off.

"The kitchen is a mess." You take in the sights. How the fuck do you turn an oven inside out? Is this even repairable? I mean, it probably is since everything goes back to its place every morning.

Julie quickly started picking up the egg shells and the milk cartons on the floor as Poppy tried to put out the small oil fire with a rag.

You covered the pot with a lid, snuffing out the fire, then took the rag from Poppy’s hand, threw it to the floor, and started to clean up the spillage with your foot.

Poppy grabbed another rag, a mop, and a bucket of water. You spent a good hour cleaning to the sound of Julie humming the riff of Free Bird and Poppy’s squawks every once in a while.

By the end of the day, nearing sunset, you had cleaned up most of the kitchen. The cabinets were still in place of the counters, and vice versa, but that can be someone else’s problem.

"Let me walk you home!" Julie offers as you grab your paper bags of groceries.

You bid Poppy farewell and leave with Julie.

"You should’ve seen our play practice!" I think I played queen of pastries quite perfectly!"

"Apparently Sally isn’t the most fond of breenberry moats, but I think we came to an agreement!"

"What even is breen-" You get cut off.

"Oh, and Barnaby today was just mean!"

"Mean?" You turn towards Julie as she huffs and crosses her arms; despite her frustration, her face keeps its smile.

"He didn’t laugh at my joke! I spent a whole week preparing it." Julie slouches forward in a cartoonish manner.

"Why don’t you run it by me then? Maybe I’ll laugh."

Barnaby was right to cringe. It’s one thing to tell a bad joke; it’s another to overexplain it. You couldn’t help but smile nonetheless; it was sweet to see Julie try so hard.

Julie was the most energetic lass in the neighbourhood and a sweetheart at heart. She almost jumped on you the first time you two met. It was a shock to see someone so excited to meet you. Despite being bombarded with questions from her and Frank, Wally would calm the two down when asking questions by diverting the focus to other things.

One of the few things you can thank Wally for is his ability to sense your discomfort in an almost invasive way.

Sometimes you’re scared that he can read your mind.

Reaching your destination, you see Home’s eyes closed and the door shut tight, with black sludge oozing from beneath the door.

Shit shit shit, not again. You can’t restart today again; it’s the third time! THE THIRD TIME. You were so close to ending the day. Come on…

You threw the grocery bags at Julie and rushed to bang on Home’s door. The door knob wouldn’t budge, and thus you pulled until Home creaked and opened their eyes.

Their eyes were red with spirals in the middle that twisted and sputtered; the chimneys let out black smoke; and the sludge leaked from every crevice. Home was in clear pain.

It’s too late to pretend everything is okay now. You've got to delve deep.

Once that door opened, you entered the sludge and fell down. So below.

It’s a disgusting sensation, and you wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. You are slimy and covered in black tar sludge; your senses are muddled, and you continuously go between being able to breathe and not.

At the bottom, you find Wally. He was on the ground, clutching where his heart would be as he spasmed on the floor.

The black tar oozing out of him covered most of his felt and clothes.

His hand reached out to the eye painted on the wall.

You rush to him and tackle him down, stopping him from completing the contact.

It was easy holding him down despite his thrashing and clawing.

He opened his mouth, which you immediately clamped shut with both your hands.

"Don't you dare." You said this as you threw Wally against the wall.

He landed without saying a word, and the black tar oozing out of his eyes glistened.

He coughs out his words.

"Neighbour, don’t leave." He crawls towards you slowly.

"NEIGHBOUR"

You stomped on his small hands whenever he tried to grab your ankles.

He hung on to your legs for dear life. He clawed at your clothes and smothered them in ooze. You push him away with all your might, and yet he clings on to you in an almost hug to your knees.

"Please neighbour… it hurts…. So… much"

You wake up with a spring in your plush bed. Another restart of the same day, and you're going mad. You swear to whatever sick deity there is that you're going to kill Wally. Forgetting all about the mundanities of morning and not even changing out of your pyjamas, you almost fall down the stairs in a haze of pure fury.

Wally was in his room shaking, hugging his knees to his chest as small droplets of black tar left his eyes.

His permanent smile never faded, not even when you barged into the room and tried to strangle him. He didn’t fight back as you squeezed his delicate, plush neck with all your might.

Home flung a painting at you, hitting you square on the nose.

The sight of you bleeding snapped Wally from his outbreak, and thus he rushed to you on the floor.

Frazzled as he was, with his hair loose and his eyes wider than you’ve ever seen them, he clung to you and tried to remove your hands to inspect your nose.

You kicked him right in the stomach, or at least where his stomach would be.

He flinched and kept clawing at your larger hands.

"Please (name), please let me look at your wound. Please.." he begged softly.

"Get away from me! Go away! Go" You thrashed about and threw your legs at him.

Another reset, another repeat of the same day; mind-numbing conversations that you’ve heard over and over again...

All because of him...

God, you were so tired that you didn’t notice the sting of your most likely broken nose, the pain of falling on your buttocks, or how home was looking at you in pity.

You just let Wally comfort you, disengaging like a windup doll on the floor, clutching your nose, and falling into a void of nothingness.

How many more days must you bear in this happy-go-lucky hell? At what point does too much become not enough? Blood dripped down your chin and collected on Wally’s yellow, fuzzy hands.

A small, fuzzy man, trying his best to stop the bleeding from your nose. A small, fuzzy man who doesn’t know anything about human biology or what most should do in such a situation

He’s helpless, clueless, and a danger to himself and all those around him.

Much like you were.

And thus, you hated him. Or maybe not; he was the only one who brought difference to the mundane scripts, but he was also the one who forced you to repeat the same day over and over... As maddening as it was, you also liked the lack of consequence. Maybe.

You close your eyes and hope the day restarts once more.

Then you could bake with poppy, maybe swerve around and go to Sally’s house for a recital, or perhaps join Eddie and Frank in taking the shipments back to Howdy's bodega.

As tired as you were, sleep did not come. And the day didn't reset. Wally stuffed your nose with a napkin and started washing his hands, much as he would after a painting session.

"I'm sorry, neighbour, I really am."

You didn't say anything back.

The day continued forward, and you painted with Wally. He drew his usual apples, then you took a walk to Howdy's bodega, where you met Sally and Barnaby. This time there are no strange coins to discuss; they simply chat about the upcoming play Sally is hosting.

You two grab the paint, bandages, and food and leave the bodega.

You then walk onward and find Frank and Eddie walking about; Frank is holding his usual book with no title cover, and Eddie is hauling a shipment, most likely to Howdy's bodega.

You exchange the usual pleasantries and go onward.

You walk around the neighbourhood to the forest, where you find Julie playing a game. You lay on the forest floor and listened as Julie described her day.

She then drags you to Poppy's house, where you bake a cake. Make a mess, clean up, and trudge back home.

The evening is like any other. You sit on the couch perpendicular to Wally's and fiddle with whatever you have on hand. This time, it's a piece of torn newspaper. Wally heats up whatever you bought from Howdy, and you eat your second and only meal of the day. The silence between the two of you is thick.

Wally does not paint this evening; instead, he unblinkingly stares at you as you eat. You don't mind it; it's not the first time, and in silence, you finish your meal, get ready for bed, and go your separate ways.

Sleep didn't come that night, as Welcome Home's night stayed still and didn't fast forward to the next day.

You itch your injured nose; it's a dull ache that keeps you from delving too far into your thoughts.

Sick of the stale air of Home's guest bedroom, you tiptoe downstairs, much like a child who's trying to get their midnight snacks.

Everything was scarier at night; even in the safety of home, the darkness was an unwelcome change from the brightly coloured neighbourhood.

It was at night when you woke up in this strange new world of puppets and old mannerisms.

The night was dangerous here, as Wally knows, and you've seen firsthand what happens to those who get lost at night.

He always stopped you before you ventured too far; it was infuriating but also comforting. After all, fear of the unknown was common.

You don't think you've ever died in this world—not yet, at least. Wally, despite his strange possessions, never hurts you. You know you can bleed; you know you can hurt and feel pain, but not to what extent...

I don't think finding out will be fun.

Wally is a strange character who seems sweet and is sweet, but is very infuriating. It was difficult to hate him, but so easy to be annoyed by him. Your personal 'punching bag', a subconscious voice would say.

Too easy to hurt, put the blame on, and loathe. Far too easy.

I’ve decided that I’m giving my writing a b effort instead of worrying about every single thing. Leaving home au

After the show was canceled, Wally Darling and the welcome home ensemble woke up in the real world as sentient puppets. With the Playfellow Workshop closed down and they had nowhere to go, they had no choice but to survive in the real world and went into hiding from the government who are interested in funny living puppets.

Many, many years later.

A worldwide war breaks out.

Many corrupted Corporations take over most of the countries.

Many cults are formed and built with delusions and depraved desires.

Many mafias are growing bigger and bigger.

The whole world had become a dystopian war zone.

Over the years, Wally and his friends had changed after experiencing and suffering many dark and twisted times. They become more grounded, jaded and darker versions of themselves. The puppets decided they could no longer hide any longer and let the entire world expose themselves as living puppets.

They then go their own separate ways.

Julie and Barnaby are recruited in joining the resistance full of rebels, mercenaries and ex-soldiers hellbent on taking down the corporations.

Frank joins the scientists and doctors in finding a cure for the Mutanster syndrome(an extremely dangerous disease that transforms humans into giant monstrous human-eating mutants). Because he is a puppet who is immune to all diseases and illnesses, he is qualified in finding a cure.

Sally joins a traveling circus of outcasts and becomes their star attraction.

Howdy, Poppy and Eddie built a store that had all the supplies, weapons and tools that the survivors needed.

As for Wally…

…he end up becoming a powerful Messiah-like figure worshipped by all cults and may or may not be working for the government in helping him find a way to return him and his friends to their “homes”.

Trivia:

1. Being cursed sentient puppets, they end up becoming immortal which means they cannot die. The good part is they do not need to eat or sleep and are immune to all diseases, illnesses, drowning, suffocation, starvation, poisoning and even old age. The sad part is they had to outlive their mortal loved ones.

2. The AU take place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian setting.

3. Because of the war, The puppets are missing their body parts and some of them replaced their lost body parts with newer parts. Julie-left horn, Barnaby-right ear, Frank-left hand, Sally-one of her fingers, Howdy-two of his legs, Poppy-her tail, Eddie-right arm and Wally-left eye.

4. While the puppets are in the real world, Home is suffering really badly because he is alone and isolated from so many years after separating from them. He will slowly go insane and transformed into a eldritch like being when he entered the real world where he tried to track down Wally and the puppets.

I don't have the Welcome Home profile format, but HERE'S MY OC ANYWAY!!!

Chloe

"If you're ever hurt, you better believe "Clumsy" Chloe Locket will be there with a first aid kit and a hug ready for you! Whether she's on her skates, her bike, or her skateboard, Chloe is always zooming around the neighborhood ready to play with her friends! Not a tear goes unattended with her in Welcome Home. She considers herself Wally's second best friend."

According to concept art and story boards, Chloe was introduce as a means of teaching kids about pain management and self-care. A gag throughout the show is that she's never seen with her first aid kit, but she seems to pull it out of nowhere whenever it's needed. She was usually used as a way to teach about when you or a friend are injured, often having bumps, scrapes, and occasionally a broken bone. She has a song called "Bad Enough to Stop Playing" (No Track), that talks about whether or not an injury is bad enough to stop playing and see a doctor.

Many of her skits have to do with both physical and emotional pain, whether someone cuts themselves with a craft, burns themselves on a baking session, or just some misunderstood words. However, she's also seen in many misadventures with Wally and Barnaby, laughing at their dynamic. There is some confusion about her relationship with Wally, since they often hold hands and walk arm-in-arm; but all that's been confirmed is that they are "very close friends".

She was brought in later in the series, though was eluded to the season before when three two new houses were being built; one between Poppy and Sally's houses, and another between Barnaby and Frank's houses (the former being Chloe's house). Her official introduction is when she literally ran into Wally while she was skating around the neighborhood.

Puppet Trivia!

Chloe is a Taurus

Whenever she's seen in a cast, there is always at least one signature on it; and it's always Wally's.

Chloe is a very good singer and dancer

When compared to Sesame Street characters, she's very similar to Elmo's friend; Zoe.

The ramp next to Chloe's house is below a window, and she's sometimes seen stepping out of the window on her skates or with her board to skate down the ramp

She says she'd love flowers outside her windows, but she's notoriously bad at taking care of plants

Wally doesn't call Chloe on the phone to greet her 'Good Morning' like with the others. Apparently she keeps her phone off the hook until about 9 AM, so Wally knocks on her door and invites her to breakfast instead.

Because of how often she is shown taking a mid-day nap, parents associate her with the reason their kids are more cooperative with naptime.

Apparently, at some point, Chloe had a pet cow before moving to The Neighborhood. She never gives a verbal answer as to what happened to the cow, only making vague, nonsensical gestures before shrugging.

In an interview, when asked about her relationship with Wally and whether or not she'd consider a romantic relationship with him, she said, "Well, that's a very important discussion to have between two people. It'd have to be something we talk about alone. But regardless, [Wally is] my best friend."

Chloe likes wearing "matching" outfits with her friends. She has a Wally-inspired outfit and a Poppy-inspired outfit

Wally often calls her last for Good Night calls because she likes telling him about her day, even if he was with her all day.

Chloe's hair is made out of unwoven yarn that was glued and sewn together to make realistic hair (or as realistic as pink hair can be). It's regularly brushed out and restyled for consistency and a healthy look.

Soul Trivia!

The soul trapped inside the Chloe Puppet is of an ex-professional skater named Makenzie Carmichael. Her current profession is being an online influencer.

She was too young to watch Welcome Home, so her knowledge of the show is secondhand from her mother. She was gifted a Wally and Chloe doll when she was five and still has them.

Personality-wise, Makenzie is very friendly but also very lonely.

She likes doing karaoke night

Makenzie's sense of fashion falls under "soft e-girl", or "comfy trendy"

Her favorite Welcome Home character is a tie between Julie and Wally

While she is in Chloe's body, Makenzie tends to dress more like how she did as a human than how Chloe canonically dressed. While it's somewhat annoying to him, Wally doesn't hate her fashion style

She becomes best friends with Poppy's soul

Makenzie retired from ice skating after breaking her hip. While she fully recovered, she didn't want to risk becoming completely immobile.

While in Chloe's body, she modified the puppet's hands to have touch-screen sensitive material on the fingertips to allow her to use her phone. She did this by removing the pads from the touch-screen gloves and sewing them in place of the fingertips.

When she manages to escape from her puppet prison, Makenzie gets a BBL and dyes her hair pink to look more like Chloe.

Her full zodiac is Capricorn Sun, Taurus Moon, and Leo Rising.

While a puppet, Makenzie teaches Wally how to give a proper hug and kiss. She also teaches him how to "Floss" to expand his simple dancing repertoire.

She keeps her Chloe puppet when she becomes human and learns a bit of puppeteering to keep her in her streams.
