The two of you were digging holes for the support beams used on the new walls, meant to keep walkers on a steady path away from Alexandria. It was midday, you guessed, based on the sun glaring directly over your shoulders.

“Whatcha laughin’ about?” Daryl asked, lifting a hand to shield his face. You met his eyes and laughed again.

“Nothing. Just thought something funny, that’s all,” you said, resuming your work. You paused when you noticed Daryl still staring at you. You raised an eyebrow at him.

“Come on. Ya gotta share it now. What’s so funny?” he pressed. You smiled, wiggling your eyebrows teasingly.

“I was just thinking, there’s nothing more romantic than digging holes together,” you cooed, putting on your mushiest, most disgusting romance voice you could. Daryl rolled his eyes, reaching over to gently push your shoulder.

“Stop,” he grumbled, but you saw the light blush on his cheeks. You smiled at the sight, lifting your arm to wipe the sweat from your eyes. Now was the perfect opportunity to study him while he was busy shoveling. The sun beat down on his bare arms, highlighting the sweat dripping down his face. You felt yourself get a little hotter at the sight.

Daryl noticed your wandering eyes and leaned against his shovel.

“Quit yer starin’. Plenty of time to stare later if we can get this done,” he teased. You shot him a weak glare, watching the corners of his mouth turn up at the sight. You raised your hands in defense.

“It’s not my fault you’re so cute,” you said. Daryl groaned.

“Don’t call me cute, woman. There’s people around,” he said. You smiled, eyes glistening with mischief. 

“Come on. You know I’m right,” you pressed. Daryl scoffed, checking your surroundings to make sure no one was in earshot. You stepped closer.

“Admit it. You’re cute. Don’t make me get Carol involved,” you said. Daryl met your eyes, staring at you in a way that made your face hot.

“Fine. I give up,” he conceded. Then, with one last look around, he dropped his shovel and pulled you to him. “I’m a sore loser, though. Got somethin’ to help my hurt feelings?”

You pulled your bottom lip between your teeth, suppressing a smile.

“Yeah, I think I got an idea,” you whispered, pulling his mouth to yours. His grip on your hips tightened, pulling you closer. The kiss quickly turned from something short and sweet into something deeper, hungrier. You had just started to press harder when someone cleared their throat.

The two of you jumped apart, turning to face the intruder: Rick. You groaned, glaring at the ex sheriff, while Daryl just stood there, staring at his friend with a slightly horrified expression.

“Need something, Rick?” you asked, trying to keep the agitation out of your voice. Rick’s shit-eating grin was starting to annoy you even further, and the pointed look he sent Daryl was clearly embarrassing him.

“Nah, nothin’ important. Just wanted to check in. Seems everythang is goin’ alright though…” Rick grinned. You stuck your tongue out at him, causing him to laugh. He took a step back with his hands raised in a “I surrender” gesture, before turning to leave.

“Make sure you get some work done!” he called over his shoulder. You turned to Daryl, who was still standing alarmingly still, and buried your head into his neck. That seemed to loosen him up a bit, as he wrapped an arm around your waist.

“That was embarrassing,” you muttered. Daryl hummed in agreement.

“Yeah. Asshole needs to mind his own business,” he said. You snorted.

“Rick’s one of our best friends, and we all live in the same house. I’m sure that wasn’t the first time he saw something he wasn’t supposed to see,” you said. Daryl groaned in response, lifting your head up to meet his gaze.

“Well he ain’t gon’ interrupt us again. I’ll make sure of it,” he said, a serious expression on his face. You laughed lightly, lifting your thumb to smooth the wrinkles between his brows.

“Oh yeah? How are you gonna do that?” you asked. Daryl gripped you a little tighter.

“How ‘bout we start by sneakin’ home early? Sound good?” he said. You grinned. “What are we waiting for, then?” You grabbed his hand and pulled him away, off to have a very eventful afternoon, away from the blistering heat.

TWD 10x12: Walk With Us - Details

Okay, let’s talk details. There are a lot of them!

***As always, spoilers abound below for episode 10x12. Don’t read until you’ve watched! You’ve been warned.***

Ezekiel:

I want to go over his mini arc here a bit more because I think it’s important.

We start with him looking for Judith as Hilltop is falling down around them. That’s a direct parallel to Beth looking for Judith and the kids when the prison fell.

Much like Glenn in S4 (and probably Beth in S5) there was a big disaster and he was left behind. As I said yesterday, I think the metal roofing might have been part of the Hole in the Roof theory, which equates to Beth being shot in the head. Now, understand, I’m not saying I think Zeke will get shot in the head. Just that there’s symbolism to equate these two sequences. With Glenn at the prison, the bridge blew up. So it’s really a matter of something happening at ground zero of the disaster that kept them there when everyone else left. So they got left behind, and the others in the group don’t realize they’re still alive and back where the disaster originally occurred. (Glenn at prison, Zeke at Hilltop, Beth in Atlanta.)

Then, once they realize he is alive, Zeke leads them to the children. While watching the episode, I kept having a head canon about Beth finding the kids and bringing them back. I’d already read spoilers and knew it wouldn’t play out like that, but with all the child/baby symbolism around Beth, it just would have been the perfect time. But there’s also symbolism here that, in my mind, makes Ezekiel a Beth proxy. So the child/baby symbolism is still present.

One more thing of note: last episode, they had a whole scene where Daryl and Ezekiel talked about one of them getting the kids out. But…neither of them actually did. Earl did. So why did they have that entire scene about Daryl and Zeke? Well, I talked in THIS ASK on Sunday about some of the symbolism in that scene, but I think there’s more to it than that. It foreshadows something we haven’t seen yet.

Magna and Connie:

Magna arrives with the walkers, much as the Whisperers might, except sans skin mask. She talks to Yumiko about how she and Connie survived the cave in, and moved back into the cave, looking for a way out. She says they took a sharp turn, which caught my ear. 

We’ve seen lots of arrows and sharp turns symbols before. I don’t even know if we’ve settled on what it means, but the obvious meaning is that their story or arc or path is heading in a new direction, and it’s usually not a good one. For example, we saw this at the school in S9 where Cyndie and the Oceansiders were killing the Saviors. And that led to the bridge and all the camaraderie between communities falling apart.

Magna also talks about how they made a sharp turn and ran into Alpha’s walker horde. They started walking with the dead, as the Whisperers do, but as the horde pushed forward, she lost Connie’s hand and they became separated. So once again, we have Connie being a missing girl, a type of death fake out, and it has to do with a walker horde.

Also, Magna does have an “I get it now” line during this scene.

I have to mention this goofy little scene with Negan and this walker. I don’t know if they were going for humorous here, but I couldn’t stop laughing. It was like they were the only two at a club and pretending not to dance with one another, but secretly they were.

Carol and Eugene

I don’t have tons to say about Eugene right now except that I’m really side-eying this arc with him and Stephanie and the hospital. I’m feeling more and more like it will be the one that leads to Beth. I think there were callbacks here to him lying about the cure in S5, and some stuff with Carol that is foreshadowing future things. I won’t have time to get into them this week, and I need to re-watch episodes to check some stuff anyway, so just know that I’ll bring it up again eventually.

His scene with Carol was really sweet and I did notice that they focused on the walker at her feet that came up out of the ground. Only it’s arms and shoulders were really free, and at first, Carol just sort of swatted it away, rather than killing it.

I wasn’t sure what to make of that, other than that her unwillingness to kill it shows her state of mind. Her guilt. But some of my fellow theorists and I have found some similar instances and are talking about them. I don’t have a concrete theory yet, as I need to do some more research, but it’s obviously something they wanted us to notice.

Carol does tell Eugene to go to Stephanie. And I felt like this is proof that she still loves Ezekiel and knows what she should be doing (making a life with him) as opposed to what she is doing (trying to get revenge on Alpha). She says that his choice is simple. If it’s important, he needs to go to her (Stephanie). Yeah, she really needs to take her own advice where Zeke is concerned. But this might also foreshadow his death fake out and the guilt she’ll have for ignoring him for so long once she thinks he’s dead. Time will tell.

Kelly/Alden/Gamma

Just the fact that they jumped into a car to escape walkers is important. We’ve always thought Beth was put into a car (specifically the trunk) to keep her safe from walkers. But we’ve seen this other places on the show as well, such as when Daryl and Aaron jumped in the van in 5x16 after they triggered the wolf trap. It’s a common theme, and the people who dive into the car for safety generally survive, so…

We also learn that Gamma’s sister was named Frances. That brought together a number of factors for me. Several people pointed out this painting at Hilltop from last week. We saw it multiple times behind both Lydia and Gamma. One of my group members found some info about it.

So this woman was known both by the names Mary Sears and Mrs. Frances Shaw. Gamma is Mary and her sister is Frances. So this is a sister theme.

Kelly asked Gamma if her sister was “everything to you.” We’ve heard the “everything” theme many times before. The one that came first to my mind was when Rick said it to Daryl in 4x14. He said that Daryl being back with them was ‘everythang.’ So I think they use this to show what’s most important to the characters, and sometimes, as with Gamma, it can take them a while to realize what that is.

Meanwhile, Gamma leads the walkers away so the others, including her nephew, can survive. A lot like Daryl did so Beth could get out of the funeral home in 4x13. So, Alone parallel. Then they did this thing where Gamma managed to kill all the walkers and had a really sweet moment of triumph. They even did the soft music and the sun coming through the trees. It would have been really beautiful if Beta hadn’t shown up to stab her in the gut.

After killing her, he puts her against the trunk of a tree and waits for her to reanimate. If you don’t know why that’s significant, read THIS by @frangipanilove. I also notice that in this scene, they show shots of walker bodies and the lake, and the shots kind of fade into one another to show the passage of time. I counted. Gamma reanimates on the third shot. Just saying.

When Daryl and his group get to the rendezvous point, and no one is there, I noticed that there were three buildings. A house, a barn, and a shed of some kind. Couldn’t help but be reminded of the moonshine shack.

Of course there was a definite cabin theme going on here. There was that one, the one Earl and the kids hid in, the one Negan stashed Lydia in, and the one he took Alpha too. So yeah, I’d call that a motif.

There were diamonds on the window of the cabin Earl and the kids were in. 

Negan and Alpha

Most of the stuff I saw with these two weren’t exactly TD smoking guns, but still worth noting.

Basically Alpha wants Negan to take Lydia’s place as her protégé. He has a line where he says, “you want me out there preaching your gospel?” That caught my ear for many reasons. The gospel bit is obviously a Christian reference, but we’ve specifically heard it referenced around Beth. We’ve also discussed how Alpha is sort of the anti-Beth. And in a way, this labels her as an anti-Christ.

Negan also talks about how his wife died, including mentioning cancer and chemo. I think that’s a hint at Ezekiel’s coming hospital arc and may also play into the water poisoning motifs we saw so strongly at the beginning of the season.

I think they were purposely juxtaposing Alpha’s parenting with that of Jerry and Daryl. We had the scene where they found the kids and hugged them and were so relieved to find them alive and well, and then it cuts to Alpha trying to convince Negan that killing Lydia is the right thing to do.

I noticed that Alpha said “thank you” to Negan. She was thanking him for finding Lydia for her. And that just reminded me of Nicholas saying thank you to Glenn right before he died. In both cases, the person saying thank you died almost directly after saying it. In both cases, they were weak characters in some way (mostly emotionally) who were really not going to survive much longer anyway.

And finally, we have Negan rolling Alpha’s head at Carol’s feet. This makes it plain that Carol is the one who let him out of his cell, and obviously they had some kind of understanding. The thing is, Carol obviously didn’t have tons of confidence that Negan would hold up his end of the deal. If she had, she wouldn’t have been trying so hard to kill Alpha herself. My fellow theorists and I also discussed that maybe, when Negan first left Alexandria and met that woman and her son, he truly wasn’t planning to do what Carol asked. He would rather have gone off with them. But when they were killed, that spurred him to go kill Alpha so he could go back to Alexandria.

And we have no idea what Carol promised. Chances are, she won’t really be able to deliver. This is yet another example of her, much like she did in S4, making a command decision that affects many other people, without actually consulting anyone else. And that never turns out particularly well, no?

So the next episode will be about Michonne, but I’m interested to see where we end up going from here.

And, on the Michonne topic, I want to address what we see in the trailer for next week. I’ve commented many times about the possibility of this Michonne/Virgil story line leading to Beth. But based on what we see in that trailer, I’m thinking not. I was envisioning her finding a civilization much like Alexandria: mostly thriving but with some problems. Another place they might become allies with. But from the trailer, it looks like Virgil is lying about everything, and things are going to go really badly for Michonne. In short, she’s in big trouble. There’s a part at the end of the promo where a door slams, and it really focuses on that.

So, I’m wondering if, rather than finding out about Rick and choosing to go get him, she’ll actually be taken captive against her will. That would explain what we talked about, about how it doesn’t make sense that Daryl wouldn’t want to go with her. Maybe she just disappears and doesn’t radio them because she really can’t. So, they don’t actually know what’s happening.

And if Beth isn’t returning through the Michonne/Virgil story line…that leaves Eugene and Stephanie. And we already know they’re headed to the Grady hospital location, so…

*You cuffed him. Ya let him go but he wasn’t supposed to touch. He didn’t listen. Time for a visit at work.*

Collapsing and passing out after a thorough, hard ride isn’t surprising, and that’s exactly what happened. Granted, you just planned to close your eyes and relax for a few before getting up and cooking him dinner but apparently that didn’t happen....

So maybe you shouldn’t be surprised when the glaring sunlight burns despite your closed eyes. You groan and throw you arm out expecting to connect with some part of him but you just hit sheets. You brave opening one eye and the large, red numbers on the bedside table read “9:56″ Well then.

You angle your head up and spot a bright blue Post-It on the pillow beside you.

“Work,” is all it says. Well....besides the little heart. You want to gag at yourself when it fills you with warmth but you bury your face in the pillow instead.

You decide bringing him lunch should make up for the fact that you flaked out on dinner and you drag yourself from bed to get your ass moving.

It takes you longer than you expected and at 11:55 you decide to shoot him a text just saying “Don’t eat lunch.” Sounds like a threat but it gets the point across. You get “Good morning to you too,” in response. You give him no more indication of what you’re doing and quickly close the picnic basket and grab your keys.

You had one quick stop to make but you’re almost to the station when you realize you haven’t thought this through. You’d rather eat glass then stroll through the front door and all the way back to his office.

When you’re stalled at a stoplight because of a slow moving tractor you snatch your phone out and text the first bullshit you can think of. “Are you busy? It’s kind of an emergency. Does the station have a backdoor I could come through?”

He answers almost immediately, “What’s wrong?”

“I’m about 2 minutes away.”

“Alright, yeah pull around back. You’ll see some stairs leading down to a door. I’ll meet you there.”

That’ll work. You feel a bit bad that he’s probably worried but it passes as you finally roll through the green light.

You pull around back of the station and spot the aforementioned stairs. You park as close as you can and grab your basket up. As you exit your car you spot a certain fuzzy head appear briefly in the smidge of the door that you can see.

He spots you as well as he jogs up the stairs but is quick to read the situation and halts at the top.

You give him a small smile to confirm that nothing’s wrong and hold your basket up. “Sorry about dinner last night. A consolation prize?,” you call out as you make your way towards him.

“Basket n’ everythang?” 

“Did you want me to bring it in a trash bag?” Before he can retort with sass of his own you rest your hand on his stomach and quickly steal a kiss.

“Trash bag might look less weird.” His sass comes regardless.

You descend the stairs, “I can throw it away?”

“No, I’m starvin’,” he laments as he opens the door and ushers you inside.

You follow him in silence down a dimly lit hallway. The lighting may be crappy but it’s doing wonders for his ass in those uniform pants.

You tear your focus away from his ass long enough to ask, “Should I prepare to be embarrassed?”

He looks back for a second and shakes his head,”Hallway opens ‘round the corner from my office. I don’t think anyone will even notice. It’s been a quiet morning.”

Sure enough he was right and you made it into his office with no fanfare. You set your basket on his desk and can’t resist the urge to run your fingers over the name plate front and center; 

“Rick Grimes    

Sheriff”

It’s just like movies and his office has windows and privacy blinds which he makes quick work of closing. “They get bored when it’s quiet. I don’t need to feel like I’m bein’ watched.”

As he’s closing the blinds on the final window you sneak up behind him and wrap your arms around his waist. “Not a voyeur then? We’ve been watched before.” You’re not looking up but you can feel him laugh and shake his head as your hands come to rest on his belt.

“Peepin’ neighbors is a bit different than my subordinates.” He rests one big hand over yours for a moment before looking over his shoulder at you. “Now what’d ya bring?”

You chuckle and pull yourself away from him. “I was gonna bring beer but I felt like that probably wasn’t the best idea. So lemonade won, along with leftover fried chicken and fresh potato salad.” 

You move some of his things aside and lay a folded blanket down.

“You got up and made it this mornin’?,” he asks, coming over.

“Only for you,” you smirk, “Sit down.”

He does as directed and sits behind his desk but seems rightly confused when you round his desk instead of taking the chair across from him.

“Stopped by the bakery and got cinnamon rolls too. But I bet they’ll stay warm,” you say as you move forward to softly graze the white beard that covers his jaw.

He still seems confused, “They keep fine, don’t mind eatin’ ‘em later. They’re hard to get fresh though, you got there at the right time.”

You draw you hand back and tap the arm of his chair gesturing that he should move back a little. And once he does you swiftly kneel between his knees.

Well he’s not confused anymore. 

He looks around as if there are 15 people in the room that you can’t see. “What’re you doin’?”

You rub your right hand up and down his thigh, “Is the door locked?” 

He nods, “People act like it revolves, I always lock it just to get some peace and quiet.”

“Good,” you move your hand to cup him through his pants, “Perfect, actually.”

There he goes staring at the invisible people in the room again as you start to massage him slowly. “This wasn’t on the lunch list you mentioned,” he says, eyes fixed on the door.

“It was a surprise.” You can feel him quickly swelling beneath your hand.

He’s about to speak but just breathes out sharply through his nose instead when you lean forward to mouth at him through the fabric.

You only linger for a moment but his right hand is balled up into a fist on while the left white knuckles the arm rest. You glance up at him but his eyes remain trained on the door.

Onwards then. You make quick work of opening his belt and his zipper glides down with ease. 

Half the thrill is the environment. This isn’t some soft, languid situation where you can get naked and take your time. You nimbly fish him out of his boxers and you needn’t been worried about time because he’s certainly ready.

He’s looking at you now and you hold his gaze as you lazily brush your lips and tongue across the head of his cock.

A groan gets caught in his throat and a shiver visibly runs through his body. You reach out for his right hand, which is still balled up on his thigh, and gently move it to cup your face. You trail smooth kisses up and down his length until you remember that time is not on your side and swiftly envelope him in your mouth.

You take as much of him as you can and he groans freely this time. He mutters something under his breath that sounds distinctly like “Fuck.”

You bring your hand up to cover what remains and move it in tandem with your mouth. His hand stays soft but firm cupped around your face. You look up to see his eyes close and his head slightly lolled back.

You deliberately let your mouth make an audible “pop” when you move it off him. “Rick,” you whisper harshly. It’s as though his head is suddenly too heavy for his shoulders but he manages to straighten up to look at you. You know your hair must be mussed and your lips must be red and wet. “Watch me,” is all you say.

He tries to stifle a moan which just makes it come out as almost a whimper as you leave tender little licks up his length. You hold his gaze as you softly take the head of his cock in your mouth and languidly suck. He’s panting now and he can’t follow your request as his head falls back again with a thud against the headrest.

It takes everything in your power to just stand up, push your underwear to the side and sink down on him. To be able to hold that fuzzy head as he pants against your chest. To dig your fingernails into his shoulders. To feel his beard brush harshly across your skin and you bounce up and down. To watch the pink spread across his cheeks as you clench around him. To kiss his open mouth while he breathes harshly as he tries not to lose control. To hear “ You feel so good” rasped out against the fabric of your dress. To see the pupils of those bright blue eyes blow as you ask him to come for you.

You squeeze his thigh to come back to earth. You’re never going to finally have him come down your throat if you fuck this up. You swallow as much of him as you can take again and his hips start rolling slowly in motion with your mouth. He’s babbling nonsense now, most of it sounds like broken off curse words. He takes his bottom lip between his teeth and his grip on you tightens.

You inhale deeply and relax to swallow even more of him. He keens then and his hips starts stuttering forward. You move both hands to bracket his hips and let him thrust into your mouth. He’s just as smooth as when he’s between your legs.

You’re considering whether to let him ride this out or coax him further when a deafening knock at the door and an even louder yell almost make you jump out of your skin.

He shrugged. “Didn’t. Figured by the weather it was about February so I wanted to do something special for you. It’s the least I could do. You deserve the world.”

She ran her hands over his broad shoulders. “I already have the world.”

He pressed his forehead against hers. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

He kissed again. “Michonne…” he breath into her mouth.

She pulled at the curls at the back of his head. “Yes…”

“You’re everythang.”

He kissed her again as he carried her the rest of the way to their bedroom and lay her down on the bed as they rid themselves of the rest of their clothes.

He climbed on top of her; lips and hands focused on kissing and touching every part of her body. She grabbed his hair; her signal that she needed him back focused on her lips.

She bit her lip as she felt his hardness against her leg. “I need you now, Rick.”

Her smiled down at her and whispered, “Happy Valentine’s Day, baby,” before slowly entering her to the sounds of both of their moans.

Chapter 16 of 🌴 was everythang! Did you feel it necessary to change, shorten, or edit the story based on various feedback, or have you stuck to your original plans for the characters? I’m getting kinda sad that the story is drawing to a close for these lovebirds.😭 Thanks for writing this beloved story.

Well thank you! ☺️ I’d say, if anything, I made the story a bit longer in some places to accommodate readers. Like for the date chapter, someone requested some more family time, so I added in that scene where Rick and Michonne talk with the kids beforehand. I added two flashbacks that I didn’t originally have planned. And I did take out some Jessie stuff (a scene where she and Tara try and fail to talk shit about Michonne, lol), but nothing that changed the overall plot. I always get sad when I end a story, but I feel it particularly so now. This is the longest I’ve spent with a plot, so this has been really special to me. I’m probably gonna be a mess in a couple of weeks. 😞
