Squeak!

A doll that squeaks!

It squeaks when you hug it, when you pat it, when you say hello to it, when you call it down for dinner - at everything, it squeaks!

Today it doesn't squeak.

It looks a bit down, even - which is saying a lot, because it always seems so chipper.

So its witch picks it up and carries it with her! Brings it with her for the day! Shows it places it doesn't usually see!

It seems to brighten up a bit, even if it doesn't continue squeaking yet.

While its witch was hoping for a bit more, she's just happy it's feeling a little better

And she gives it a little hug!

And it gives a little squeak!

A doll sitting at a piano, practicing the same two measures over and over again. A run in the left hand moves to the right, covered with syncopated chords and unusual fingering. Every time this one plays the passage, it makes a mistake. Every time it makes a mistake, it goes back to the beginning and tries again.

Two measures, over and over.

Two measures.

Sometimes, this one gets it right. It plays all the notes, in the right order, at the right volume, in the right way. But then it has to do it again to prove that this one really knows it.

It tries again,

and again,

and again.

Every time it makes such a small mistake it thinks that next time, surely next time, this one can do it slightly better and then it will be perfect. 

Suddenly, its witch calls it over to the other room. Immediately, this one lifts its hands, leaving spare notes ringing in the air. All she needed was a glass of water. This one is happy to get one for her. This one is careful to get one of her favorite glasses for drinking water out of, and to make sure this one fills it up enough, but not too much. 

Its witch’s smile is all the reward this one needs. 

With a pat on the head and a kiss on the cheek, this one goes back to her piano, but she’s lost her place. She can’t start back at those two measures. Instead, she goes all the way to the beginning of the piece and starts from there.

This one likes this piece. It’s fun to play and it sounds pretty. All the intricate motions her hands do make her glad to be a doll, and glad that its witch is here to hear the sound. 

Without thinking about it, this one plays right through the part it was stuck on, not even slowing down! It gets to the end of the piece and realizes that it had never played it better.

when russian doll said, "trauma is a topographical map written on the child, and it takes a lifetime to read" and the story of russian doll is Nadia being cornered by the universe into deciphering that map because if she doesn't then her time left in the world will decay. when succession said, "the past isn't real" and "maybe the poison drips through" and it's a story about how undeciphered trauma is corrosive, an all-consuming invasive force that left unchecked rots even it's own foundation regardless of your belief in its validity. the way both shows are cautionary tales about, among many other things, the work you have to do to make sure the trauma passed along to you doesn't take you. they're so special to me <3

I'm just saying as funny as sleeping with your dead shizun's corpse like it's your dakimakura/therapy doll is can you imagine instead of walking in on Binghe cuddling the corpse but instead has like full doll diorama set up for it to look like the body is doing paperwork or eating food. Or just posing Shizun like he's going to scold Binghe for his actions. Like, imagine walking in on Binghe setting that up or bowing down to a posed corpse that's been fully dolled up and posed to look like this.

Imagine seeing that. Imagine being one of the demons who serves him seeing this shit.

A Doll Working In Darkness

This one is working alone in a public room. Anybody could join it, but nobody nor thing has. 

The lights are off. It could have turned them on, but this one chose not to. It can work in the dark. This one’s eyes can, most of the time, make out enough detail. It can, most of the time, avoid bumping into anything. Whenever this one struggles, it doesn’t mind too much. It is only a doll, after all.

The book in this one’s hands is almost impossible to read.

It feels forgotten by the lights, just how it should be. The lights are only for people, after all. The doll can work without them.

After some time, a person walks into the room. She flicks the lightswitch without a second thought. Her eyes catch on the outline of the doll’s shoulders, visible by how they hang the drapery of her yellow-yarn hair, then she moves on. She has her own work to do.

More people come in. Some of them know each other, some of them don’t. This one doesn’t mind the noise. It doesn’t mind that none of them know it. It is only a doll. It is happy to be unseen.

I got Elixa test printed today! As you can tell, there's some issues with the magnets, leaving some notable gaps which I am already working on fixing. Still needs some cleanup; I just kind of gave it a rough sanding to clean up the worst spots from the supports so I could handle it easily for now.

Not sure where that stain came from :/ but I think the overall concept is coming through, though!!

I did also print a Drizzle but it A. Needed quite a bit of clean up and I'm still working on that (plus magnet gluing) and B. I am debating trying it on at all. It came out a lot larger than I thought it would, even after comparing it to a Kabbit head. I hollowed it out before printing, too, but it's still pretty heavy so that's another concern. We'll see.
