Lavender back! As expected you're the kindest and sweetest person ever and doesn't have dislikes <3333. But PhD school is 5 years and I want to do it neurodegenerative sciences research (so like schizophrenia, alzheimer's disease, stuff like that!)
now for our favorite romance tropes
enemies to lovers
GOSH DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS like the tension that this creates is UNRIVALED I LOVE it *SLAMS CREDIT CARD ON THE TABLE* i love it when they both are like academic rivals or something it just makes me go insane i love i love i love (OR COWORKERS? PLEASE????) (or like in kamisama where from literally the first meeting you can feel the tension just build and build like ARGH)
kuuderes
you already know how i feel about these and i scream so loud for it every time i will cheer from the bleachers for a solid kuudere yamada akito I'm looking at you my amazing boy i just love it so much i love
delinquents, social outcasts, edgy man
look i live for this, especially in a manga it just hits differently gosh when they have like the piercings, the rings, the like edgy style YES I KNOW IT'S SO CLICHE AND I WILL FOLD every time. EVERY SINGEL. TIME.
and what about youuuuu? (honorable mention is age gaps but that's getting too thirsty for me and i need to reel myself in)
ahahaah oh I do dislike things...I just don't hate them 🤣 ...soon you will find out I'm actually not a hater, I'm indifferent if I don't like something I just ignore it lol. 5 more years?!?! woahhh that's a lot but neurodegenerative sciences research sounds so fascinating and interesting, and I feel that there isn't much research about certain diseases yet.
YESSSS YES YESS AND YESSS to all of them!!! they are also my faves (including age gaps (done with delicacy and development and eventually all the characters aged up) , also I'm sorry but I'm a basic b*tch and I do enjoy my love triangles hahah I usually suffer because I also root and love the one that never wins "second male lead syndrome" 😭 . Oh I also love a good deconstruction of the shoujo tropes, the ones that are not your typical shoujo storylines or have interesting twists.
Since you mentioned "delinquents, social outcasts, edgy man" these are the few that I've been reading recently that fit the description in case you want to check them out (I'm terrible at giving summaries sorryyyyyy) but they are really good and I love all the character so much... i wouldn't be surprised if one of them becomes your fav too :)

It just went that way. What are your plans for the coming months? I am recording a new song, and gonna perform in events. Do you have any artistic collaboration plans I am about to release a single with a swedish male singer. I hope for many more collaborations.

amsterdam 18th december
I had never been in this region of Europe during the winter before. Or, what seems the winter to me—the months that begin with the first of December and end with February, all solstices aside. Unlike Mum, who lived part of her life in London during an era when the kind of cold we encountered today would have been unthinkable, I could more easily rationalise the minus-five chill which welcomed us on the streets as we headed out for the morning. It occurred to me, looking at the number displayed on the weather app before my eyes, that this was something like the coldest weather I have lived in my whole life. I pulled a scarf up around my nose to face this freezing state of affairs until we reached the Rijksmuseum.
The museum is one of those places that everybody visits, maybe that’s why the only sensible time of day to visit is first thing in the morning, because as the day goes on the huge building nonetheless fills up and one is more likely to see the back of someone’s head than they are any actual pictures. Looking down at one of the printed maps in the pearly white entrance hall, it’s easy enough to believe you have something possibly manageable within an hour or two on your hands. But as we began to make our way around the circuit of the second-floor gallery, containing the great Dutch artworks and relics of the seventeenth century alone, we were quickly overwhelmed by the magnitude of the collection and its depth—every room, every object deserved at least its own half-hour, time we could afford only a fraction of under the pressure of our schedule and the drag of gallery fatigue.
In the seventeenth-century galleries, I loved the memento mori still lifes best. There were many of these paintings interspersed between piles of ripe fruit and unwilted flowers. Pictures of skulls and candles burning low—not incidental arrangements the artist could have the air of simply stumbling upon and capturing the light and colour of, rather an articulate message: remember you must die. Mum said she was most amazed by the Dutch masters’ manipulation of sun and fire, sources of light that bathed their subjects in a kind of animated realism. She was right when she suggested that only by looking at the art in person can it really be perceived and felt. I might’ve seen a bit too much of it on my previous visit to be as astounded as a person ought to be. But I was still captivated by the inky black seas upon which the people and objects floated, illuminated like they’d been brushed by the fingertips of King Midas but with a warmth beyond any piece of solid gold.
Tumblr media
On the same floor was the Gallery of Honour, a great hall of alcoves containing the works of Rembrandt, Vermeer, many others. At one end we saw the progress made in restoring Rembrandt’s The Night Watch. This was a curious change from the time I first visited and named my journal after the painting’s Dutch moniker of De Natchwatch. Back then the museum was still in the process of researching and preparing for the monumental project of laying hands on such a significant work of art, now a completely new structure encased its canvas. After seeing so much the same on my return, this difference struck me as the morbid still lifes did—time moving forward, implacable.
Tumblr media
We didn’t have much more time to explore the museum after that, as Camilla had made a booking for brunch at a nearby cafe for us to meet again with her and Rob and little Oscar. The best we could manage was a quick diversion into the nineteenth-century rooms on the floor below; more than the Van Goghs or the great Waterloo gallery I was glad to see again my favourite painting from when I visited before. Breitner’s The Singel Bridge at the Paleisstraat in Amsterdam was a familiar moment in time, captured and repeated. I hadn’t remembered it too particularly or where it was in the museum. Coming across it again, I was taken back to my old journal entries and the person I was then.
Tumblr media
Leaving the Rijksmuseum behind, we walked about fifteen minutes up the street to the cafe, a Melbourne-like place where we sat for a happy hour or two with Camilla and Rob while Oscar waddled around the table legs and ate toddler-torn chunks of the house pita bread. On the way we crossed the bridge over Vondelpark, sunk beneath a layer of frost and less frequented by picnic-goers and cyclists than it was in my distant summer memory. My dish at the cafe, also ordered by Mum, was a tasty arrangement of halloumi and roast pumpkin and black beans, the sort of food we most love. The coffee order for the table comprised three flat whites for the adults, a fresh mint tea, and a babycino. At the end of the meal we watched Camilla and Rob ride off on their bikes with Oscar firmly strapped aboard—I was very sorry to see them go, but touched they made so much time to see us more than once during our brief stay in Amsterdam. Their kindness to me has been very great and I owe them.
I have been battling on very persistently so far this trip, but this was the moment at which it seemed to catch up with me. Though it was only early afternoon we returned to the hotel and it was there that I passed out into a state of atypical slumber—I never sleep during the day, this time I did, and I woke up to several unread text messages from Mum and a hazy disorientation. I turned on the little hotel room television to ground myself and switched to the final of the world cup, where France was playing Argentina. It was a good game, I think, though I don’t know much of the sport. Down in the restaurant-lounge on the ground floor where I went to meet Mum for a drink, the staff were subtly watching along on a screen behind the reception counter and ripples went across the room each time a penalty shoot resulted in a goal.
For dinner we walked to the very edge of central Amsterdam’s western islands, to a tiny collection of residential streets surrounded by canal. The restaurant I’d found was a small and quite new place called Barentz Restaurant and Bar, tucked away up there in the far reaches. Not many Amsterdamers were out tonight night in the cold—only two or three other tables were occupied this evening. The food here, prepared personally by the restaurant’s two owner-chefs and delivered by a charming waiter-barman, was delicious and comforting. The starter of roasted leek with miso was especially good, but my main dish, the meat of the day, was so incredibly tasty I feel that is what will linger in my memory most. Tender pink slices of bavette steak, dripping in rich umami sauce and served with mushroom and wilted greens, salty and rich but refined. Alongside a spoonful of crisp radicchio leaves and a sip of espresso martini and light wine, it was perfect. Mum’s dishes centered melting pumpkin ravioli and polenta, while for dessert we enjoyed a delicate chocolate cake with butterscotch and a serving of sweet, tangy curd with candied carrot.
Tumblr media
On our way out the door after this wonderful dinner, the sweet young man running the front of house warned us to be careful out there with the frost and ice; we’d walked there from the hotel only two or three hours ago, so perhaps we thought we didn’t have too much to worry about. We were proven instantly wrong in this. A shocking amount of slippery sleet and frozen canal water now covered the pavements and roads. We were laughing as we tried to walk towards home but only succeeded at ice skating—or falling in Mum’s case, not very hard but still decidedly onto the cobblestones in the middle of the silent street. I gave up attempting to lift my feet off the ground and began to shuffle instead, scraping the soles of my battered canvas sneakers forward one after the other. It was good fun and highly unsustainable. We were not going to make it the distance back to the hotel any time soon.
Luckily for us, an internet connection makes these things much easier. I found that there was a bus stop on the nearest main road where we could get a bus to Centraal Station and then a tram to the stop just around the corner from our hotel. The bus was pretty crowded, clearly the ice-rink streets were not a popular place for anyone to be strolling about tonight. With gratitude and admiration towards our bus driver braving the slippery roads to bring us to safety, we got off in the centre of town and soon made it to our beds unharmed. Today had been a little fraught around the edges for me, with fatigue and a feeling of clutter, but it ended so happily. My last night in Amsterdam for a length of time I wouldn’t be able to predict—of course bittersweet, but the bitterness subdued by the taste of moreish hot food and laughter at the callous jests of nature as we skated along, clutching at railings and parked cars for support.

Meet Me In The Church
Kinktober day 18: Threesome
Suptober day 25: Villain
A/N: I know I'm a couple days late in kinktober, but I'll get there. A Very Supernatural Halloween is here! We are starting with @deanmonandnegansbitch 's request!
Pairings: Michael!Dean x reader, Anael x reader, Michael!Dean x reader x Anael
Warnings: fingering, playing with boobs, violence
Tumblr media
“So this is your plan? Just go around destroying things until God shows up?” A strident voice reverberated through the abraded church's walls, causing flinch of yours in response. This place was abandoned, and the maps that Alice, your friend, picked up online didn't mention anything about a room underground. Obviously, that only made you follow the stairs towards the noise. “And then what?”
The response came through a velvet voice, “Even God can die.”
You kept walking, the distinguishing sounds of your friends' laughters being replaced by a louder tone of the two unknown people behind the black door in the end of the stairs. You could see a big crucifix, some word craved in it — an old pray, probably.
You should turn around and call your friends. Maybe even the police. Those people were hiding in a secret room. Not that you and your group were right to break in the old church, but it was for fun and not to plan a murder of God. In the bare minimum, the pair was high, drunk, and wasted.
Yet, you kept walking to the black door. Your legs trembling as if some lasting animal instinct in your body knew that wasn't a good idea. But you wanted to know what was happening, give names to the faces and get a story out of them. Where they actually talking about God or were they using nicknames as a gang? Why they wanted to kill God? What happened to get them to the point of arguing about their plan in a church in the middle of Mexico?
You followed their voices like a sailor would follow a siren cry. You just begged to any holy divinity left in the forgotten church not to let you have the same destiny of the sea men.
You were close enough to hear the loud huff, the woman's next words tangled with incredulity. She laughed like she wasn't able to discern if he was kidding or not. “I thought Lucifer was reckless, but you're literally throwing tantrums to get God's attention and then try kill him.”
“Do not compare me to Lucifer.” He almost howled. Your fingers touched the door, pulling it carefully; you knew those sort of building had many noises. You breached, taling a glance inside the place. The room looked old and dusty, except for the two standing there. A woman and a man, just like you pictured from the voices. You were amazed by their apparency. Tall, beautiful, and dominant. You didn't know why, their postures simply exhaled power. “Pay me some respect. Remember that you didn't pick me, I picked you.” An echo of something being thrown against the wall could be heard next, her body was slammed as she was held by her neck. The mam with a hat didn't seem to care. If anything, the cocky grin on his lips reported his clear amusement. The girl put grabbed his arms, gasping a bit. You couldn't just allow that. “I can easily get another angel to do your job if I find you useless like my brother did. His only mistake was to let you live. Lucifer, always such a sentimental.”
Your dry tongue was capable of pushing a word out of your mouth. It was supposed to come out as a warning when you spread the door open, but the quiet unsteady tone beatrayed you. “Hey!”
Both of them turned to stare at the intruder. He threw her body away with ease, green eyes fixated on you. “It seems like we have a guest.”
“You can't just do that to a woman, you abusive asshole.” You said through your teeth, walking to her and getting on your knees. “Are you okay?”
He rolled his eyes at your worry, but the girl seemed to appreciate it: her glossy eyes by the lack of oxygen were wide as they watched you, mouth slightly open in surprise. Anael wasn't used to kindness of any being towards her. In heaven, she was just another angel. On earth, she was sister Jo, humans were nice to her because they wanted to be cured, and the angels were disgusted by how quickly she manipulated her nature to play among the weaker kind.
But not you... You got yourself in the middle of a argument to assist her. Someone you didn't even know!
Anael couldn't help but welcome the weird sensation through her vessel. She felt shy, but st the same time warm. Was this what being cared about felt like?
“She isn't a human, little one. She's just a weak angel trying to make some sense out of her existence by bring closer to a higher being.” Michael's utterly calm tone brought her back to reality. He scoffed, looking up and down at the both of you. “You're right. That sounds a lot like a human.”
“You are crazy.” You hissed, grabbing the other's arm to help her getting up. Your skins tickled each other together. Your eyes were amiable when observating. “You can come with me. My friends are downstairs, we can take you to the police station.”
“You'd be getting ride of a problem for me.” Despite the disinterest, Michael arched an single eyebrow. You weren't the only curious in the church. He wanted to know more. “But fulfill my curiosity: What are you doing here? Why would you help someone you don't even know?”
“We're leaving.” You said, pulling Anael to go with you. Although she was on her feet, she didn't make a move to walk away with you. “We can keep you good. You don't have to stay here with that crazy.”
She didn't want you to die, the first being that showed her kindness somehow, but she knew better than mess with Michael's ego. Anael had teamed up with Lucifer to keep herself safe. She was a survivor. She could adapt anywhere, in any situation. The angel had to do that here too.
“He isn't crazy. We are angels.” She said, eyes glowing white. You pulled away from her hold with a shocked expression, her human skin almost hurt in response.
“Anael is an angel. I'm Michael, the archangel.” He corrected her, smiling proudly at his title. Michael took steps closer to you. “You didn't answer me.”
His green orbs turned bright blue as he glanced at you. One of his tough hands raising to meet your cheek in a singele touch that didn't seem fitting him, at all. That man looked like danger, still you couldn't stop yourself from leaning into his touch. The magnetic pull of something graceful trapped with his gorgeous being.
“I helped her because I thought she needed help.” You answered. “And I came here with a group of friends. We heard about the abandoned church and just came around.”
Michael nodded, a smuh smile on his plump lips.
“Wrong time, wrong place.”
His hand swiftly went to your neck, trace of goshbumps left behind. Anael knew what was coming next; she could take a couple hints, but you were just a fragile human.
“We could use her!” angel attempted to intervene, hoping Michael wouldn't notice the despair in hee voice. Anael wanted more of the emotions you brought out hee vessel, she wanted to be cared for.
“And have another burden to carry?” Michael huffed, his fingers wrapped around your neck as you watched they speaking. God, how did you allow this to happen? “Anael, I keep you around only to have an eye close to the other angels. Why would a human be useful to me?”
“You think to much.” Anael said, her malicious grin exhibiting a confidence she didn't have. “She could be useful for another things.” Her scooted closer to you two, pressing hee body to your side and biting your ear. You pressed your legs together, trying to contain your arousal. But, how could you? He was marvelous and was holding your neck, and she was pressing her against you as if she wanted to make one out of you two.
“Carnal desires.” Michael stated, considering how your body reacted. Interesting but not peculiar, despite Dean's clear positive noise about it. “I'm not my vessel. I do not require sexual activities all the time.”
Anael managed to pull you to her, while Michael pulled away. “You work so hard to make a better world, Michael. You deserve a break.”
You glared at her breathlessly. All your emotions, all your body were a mess for both the victim and the villain; Anael and Michael. You wanted both.
Anael's lips were tingling as she leaned in, ultimately pressing them against yours. It was sloppy, hurried, and a mess. Obviously her first kiss. But that didn't stop her from grabbing your neck and pushing you against the wall.
She wanted more. Anael invaded your mouth with her tongue, whimpered to your taste. You didn't know how to reach at first, but soon your hands were on her hips. Her chest pressed against yours made you whimper, you could feel every inch of her body.
Michael licked his lips as he watched the scene. Dean's mind has a whole section dedicated to such acts, especially videos including more than one woman. The archangel hadn't seen the appeal until you. You and Anael, two puny creatures, were attacking each other only to make him keep you alive.
Anael pulled away from you, the slick in her panties demonstrating exactly what her vessel wanted, what she wanted. You were not far from that, so you didn't protest when she ripped your shirt off. Good day not to wear a bra.
She let out a whimper, eyes full of adoration when she looked at your boobs. Anael just followed what her body wanted to to, guided by her vessel's memories,— in some of them, the woman that once had control on this body was moaning, squirming even for someone called Yas. She'd moan and whine as her partner played with her breasts. — moving foward, her mouth around your nipple as she sucked it.
You shameful loud scream left your body as your pulled her closer to your chest. You eyes were on Michael, how he watched you both like a predator studying his prey. If Anael was so eager, so rough biting and pulling your boob, you couldn't wait to see how Michael would be.
“Michael—” You whined, the fear of his reaction only soaking your panties more. “Please. I need you too.”
Usually, it was easy to descry his emotion's and Dean's. Dean was often a loyal dog, surrounded by selfless feelings and necessity. Now, though, Michael couldn't tell if it was his vessel or himself that let out a hungry groan at your words. All he knew was that he approached to contemplate the way your expression contoured in pleasure.
Your aura was delivered into delight, beautiful noises that reminded him a lot of his enemies falling left your mouth. Your legs pressed together in a silly try for friction catching his attention. Michael slid his hand inside your panties, fingers in a clandestine meeting with your wetness. It was a pleasant situation for him.
The archangel, just like the angel that had went to taste your other boob, craved for what you could give him. It was almost worship, you offering your body as the ancients did before. Michael put a finger inside you, enamored by how you moaned and moved, how your wetness squeezed his digit so good. He couldn't wait to get his hardening cock there.
But first, he needed to do something else. You seemed worthwhile, but he wasn't one for blind faith anymore. Michael pulled his finger to his mouth, licking it.
You tasted divine.
“No carnal desires? Guess your vessel doesn't agree with you.” Anael pulled away from you to provoke Michael, nodding at the hardness in his pants. You winced in protest.
Michael's answer came as a groan: “Shut up or I won't let you touch her anymore.”
You just wanted them to touch you now, after, and forever. You needed them. You were made to be given to them, you knew it in your bones. And then, they did. And you couldn't ever believe you had actually found a purpose.

The teams start at the Jaarbeurs and then cycle east through the city centre. After the technical first part of this course they race along the Singel over the Maliebaan, the oldest bike path in the Netherlands. The route goes to Overvecht, where the teams make a loop towards Leidsche Rijn. This means that the spectators will be able to see their cycling heroes pass by twice. After leaving the new Leidsche Rijn Centre, the teams will race to the finish. From the fly-over, a real team sprint will be made until they come back to the Jaarbeursplein. In total, the team time trial is 23.7 kilometers long. “Like the Giro in 2010 and the Tour in 2015 the route of La Vuelta will pass through a substantial part of our city. It’s going to be an amazing and a memorable event once again." Mayor of Utrecht Jan van Zanen

La Vuelta Holanda Press Brochure is glowing in its appraisal of the Province of Utrecht: It compliments it on being: An Attractive Cycling Region “The province of Utrecht is an attractive cycling region with 1800 km of bicycle paths and lots of vegetation! It is no coincidence that the province of Utrecht is number 1 in the list of the most kilometres on a bicycle per year per inhabitant. The province has been encouraging the use of bicycles for years and that hasn’t been without results. This is not that strange, because cycling in this area is a unique experience: it has more castles, estates and country estates than in the French Loire region! In addition, this part of the Netherlands is known for its interesting cycling innovations. Through cooperation between companies, research institutes and governments, the region is increasingly becoming an international cycling knowledge and innovation hub. The province is also known for its know-how economy, thanks to its central location and a high level of expertise. This central location - in the middle of the Netherlands - also makes it one of the provinces through which many Dutch people travel. The road network is the busiest and most used road network in the Netherlands and Utrecht Central Station handles even more passengers than Schiphol Airport.” La Vuelta Holanda Press Brochure tells us that Utrecht is a: Bustling Cycling City “It is a figure that surprises many people from abroad: every inhabitant of the city of Utrecht has on average two or more bicycles. When you look around the city, you see them all over. Firmly chained to poles and bridges, parked in bicycle sheds and deftly heading on the many bicycle paths. Utrecht was the first municipality to have a bicycle path as early as 1885 and now has the largest bicycle shed in the world: for no fewer than 33,000 two-wheelers! Not surprisingly, this city is the only one in the world to host all 3 major cycling tours. The Giro d’Italia in 2010, the Tour de France in 2015 and soon La Vuelta in 2020. Utrecht is also the fastest growing city in the Netherlands; from 350,000 inhabitants in 2018 to 400,000 inhabitants in 2025. It is a lively city and offers an impressive and pleasant mix of timeless history and contemporary appeal. In this city you will find history, culture and creativity alongside exciting design shops and authentic restaurants. Utrecht is the brain of the Netherlands; a city with knowledge, with young, smart inhabitants, a thriving creative sector and leading international research centres that are constantly able to attract and produce top talent.” Read the full article

I have been to Amsterdam twice in the last two years. The first with Mark and the second with my beautiful besties Lizzie and Louise. There aren’t many places that I venture to and instantly fall in love with everything about it.
To me Amsterdam is like a fantasy world. You have breath-taking architecture, quirky brick buildings, great food, relaxed atmosphere and all of the normal delights from a trip away. But on the flip side you are introduced to what I can only describe as the absolutely weird and wonderful!
Tumblr media
Urban Lodge Hotel
If you are heading to Amsterdam over the colder months then this place is a real winter warmer! Just like the name suggests it has all the cool interiors of a log cabin with easy links to Amsterdam Central. It is a no brainer to stay a little further out, you cut the price in half and with Amsterdam’s transport links never feel far away from the hustle bustle of the city centre. I always say that your hotel is just a base when going away for a weekend break.
Tumblr media
Places to eat / Smoke
Dampkring
When visiting this amazing city we went with the view “When in Amsterdam…”
We were keen to visit Damkring, famous for its scenes in Oceans Twelve the interior looked surreal. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the fumes! If you are an avid smoker then you will love this place however Mark and I are not so it was all a little overwhelming for us! I swear I was high off the fumes. Luckily for novices like us they have pre rolled joints that save the embarrassment of trying to do you own, we must have looked so out-of-place because I just said “Whats the mildest one you have?”. Mild it was NOT….Mark and I were so stoned that we went and walked around Amsterdam for about 6 hours, not talking to each other and just staring at everything!!
Tumblr media
Greenwoods Singel
If you are after a hearty breakfast to keep you going then this place is an absolute dream. Be prepared to queue as this is a very small cafe but it is well worth the wait! I have tried the Eggs Florentine and the Full English. Both of these were amazing and cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and the prices for the portions were reasonable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Supper club
This is the weird and wonderful I was talking about earlier. It is very much a tourist attraction but hey I am a tourist! If you are looking for a fun unique night out then this is definitely one to try.
The concept of supper club is to mix food and entertainment, there is a set menu of 5 dishes with entertainment inbetween courses.
We spent around 100 euros each for the set menu plus drinks. We didn’t book the beds and we were quite glad we didn’t. They may look relaxing but you were pretty close to the other customers and we just wanted to be able to freely chat and enjoy the time together without being forced to make friends with our neighbours.
The food was so good. It was cooked well, surprisingly hot for the amount of people they had to serve at the same time and deceptively filling. I went and complimented the chef on the dessert he made. I cannot tell you how good it was. It was a take on a snickers which does not give it justice but the satisfactory noises I made whilst eating it were questionable! The chef was so pleased he gave us another portion!
The entertainment throughout was bizarre and beautiful. I will never look at a carrot in the same way again! The whole experience is a play on your senses.

Things to do
Canal Cruise
If you do anything when visiting Amsterdam or any city for that matter, a tour is a must! Due to the time of year it was the Amsterdam Light Festival so we took a cruise. It was such a lovely end to the day. We rested our feet and had a hot cup of tea. I would highly recommend.
Van Gogh Museum / Truffle Time
Mark and I thought it would be a great idea to try truffles for the very first time and walk around the Van Gogh Museum. We stopped off at a Smart Shop called Innerspace and the lovely lady behind the counter talked us through how to take them and what ones we should go for as newbies!
Please note: if you are going to take truffles when in Amsterdam (which I would definitely recommend trying once in your life) then do not drink before. We ate half of the pot below with a cube of dark chocolate, by itself the truffles aren’t the most palatable. To come down from the experience it is recommeded to have some suger so be sure to have some milk chocolate or fizzy with you.
I can safely say that truffles were one of the funniest experiences of my life. Mark and I only made it to the Van Gogh museum cafe where we must have sat for at least 2 hours. All of your senses are heightened, colours are more vibrant, you hear every little sound and you just cannot stop laughing.
So I do apologise that I don’t have much more to say on the museum but the tea was great!
Tumblr media
Red Light Secrets (Museum of prostitution)
When in Amsterdam….
Needing no introduction we visited this district because of sheer curiosity, I don’t know whether we went at a bad time but I didn’t feel the buzz that people have said normally surrounds the Red Light District, it just felt a little morbid and seedy. We decided to go to the museum which we absolutely loved. It was so intriguing to learn about the oldest profession in the world and definitely worth a walk around if you have a spare half an hour. It’s only 11 euros per person so won’t break the bank either!
If you are like Mark and I and enjoy being a total tourist when visiting new places then I would reccomend all of the above. I will definitely be returning to get off the beaten tourist track and explore Amsterdam a little more.

Review of Hotel Estherea, Amsterdam
Our 48 hours in Amsterdam trip was a total surprise, organised by my hubby to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Daniel has always been a really thoughtful guy, so I knew that when he said I should leave everything to him, that I could trust we wouldn't end up in a dodgy Airbnb in Blackpool. Not that there's anything wrong with Blackpool! He finally decided on two nights at 4 star boutique Hotel Estherea, including breakfast, via lastminute.com. Here's how it went.
Situated within a row of 17th century buildings alongside Amsterdam's oldest canal, the Singel, Hotel Estherea is a boutique hotel with a luxe feel. We arrived around 9pm on a Friday night, and the first thing I noticed as we walked through the doors was the scent. The hotel smelled amazing; I can't quite describe it but I really should have asked if they sold candles of the fragrance they'd managed to infuse the entire building with. It felt immediately relaxing, and I have to admit, once we were shown up to our room, I was definitely tempted to jump straight into the bed. Speaking of the bed; it was made up in the most luxurious mix of prints in beautiful tones of teal and gold, with the necessary multiple cushion options, of course. Although we realised the bed was actually two singles pushed together (meaning that throughout the night one of us was destined to fall into the increasing large gap) the receptionist sorted this out before we climbed into bed on the second night.  There were some great little touches in the room; the wallpaper was a pretty birdcage design and the lighting had a real Art Deco feel. There were chocolates left on the bed, and gorgeous L'Occitane products in the bathroom. The shower was exactly what you'd expect from a quality hotel - thorough and hot! The bathtub was definitely only meant for one, so if you're planning on a double dip, you'd be advised to ask ahead for larger options. Still, that didn't stop me from indulging in a relaxing bath each night.
Aside from our room, what we most loved about the hotel was the beautiful library. Ultra luxe and spacious, you could easily unwind here with a favourite book, or listen to a podcast, without feeling like you're sitting on top of one another. There are desks for you to work privately, as well as a large table that lends itself to meetings, as well as a private phone booth, and plenty of comfy seating. I loved helping myself to a hot chocolate and sinking into one of the deep, cosy chairs after a long day of walking. Every evening you'll arrive to see an array of cakes and biscuits to indulge in, while you choose from a range of teas and coffees, all free of charge.
When it comes to the breakfast, it really depends on your style. If you like to nibble at a little cheese and ham, perhaps some yoghurt and granola, then you'll be fine. But if you love all the options of the usual Continental brekkie, or a full English with lots of hot toast, you'd be better off exploring. We soon discovered that avocado toast is more like avocado bread in Amsterdam (toasting your bread just isn't done here), so if that's what you're after, I'd head out early and go find yourself a comfy cafe - there are tons! Find out where we ate in my 48 hours in Amsterdam blog here.
If you're looking for beautiful yet relaxed surroundings and a very pleasant night's sleep, Hotel Estherea is for you.
Singel 303-309, 1012 WJ Amsterdam.

Country #71 - Netherlands Day 1
The NYC Lights
Today was an early one, but it’s exciting because it is the start of my two week Europe trip with my mom! I’m really looking forward to having her join me for two weeks in Christmas-y Europe. We’ll be going all over, including to the Netherlands, Finland, Russia, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Our first stop is in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, specifically), but to get there we have to fly through both New York and Dublin.
We drove three hours to Atlanta where we had an 11am flight, which meant we had to leave by 6am. We were running a bit late but thanks to my dad’s quick driving ended up making it without having to run to our gate, thank goodness. I was pretty annoyed with United, though, as they made us check our carry on bags through claiming there was no space left in the overhead bins. When we got on the plane though there was still plenty of space! The flight seemed really short and our bags arrived safely in New York as well. I also found out mid-flight that Alabama would be headed to the college football playoff, so that was some exciting 37,000-foot news!
When we landed we met my Aunt Dana outside. We would be spending the day with her in NYC before departing late in the evening. There was very little traffic on our drive into the city, and after exiting the Lincoln tunnel we parked without a hassle and then took the subway towards our first stop: food! On the way to eat we stopped in the MOMA design store and walked up a small portion of 5th avenue, glimpsing the beautiful lights for the first time. We were soon at the Plaza Food Hall, one of my favorite places to eat in New York as it’s really close to where I worked last summer. I really love the pasta place there, Ora Di Pasta, which is where we decided to eat. I had my favorite, the four-cheese alfredo ravioli! We met some nice ladies from Florida sitting next to us, and after we finished we headed back out to enjoy all of the Christmas lights and window decorations.
It was so insanely crowded (much more than it ever was during the summer), but we were still able to see a lot. My favorite decorations were probably Tiffany, Burberry, and Cartier, and the best indoor decorations were Bergdorf Goodman and Saks. Saks also probably had the best lights but we didn’t realize until after we left that we needed to wait to see them turned on. The windows were cool too, though! We stopped in St. Patrick’s church real quick as well (it is beautiful and definitely worth stepping inside if you ever find yourself in New York) and then made our way across the street to 30 Rock to see the giant tree. It was, indeed, giant, and also was a pretty chubby tree. It was wall-to-wall people and we quickly made our way through to catch a cab back to our car on the other side.
We drove up the west side highway, out of the city, and on towards Newburgh where we would be flying out of. We made a quick stop at Best Buy and to see my Uncle Tom who had some chicken fingers waiting for us at a small restaurant in the town where they live right near Newburgh, Cornwall-on-Hudson. We ate quickly and then headed on to the airport. It was a great day taking a quick visit through the city and visiting with Aunt Dana as well.
It took forever to check-in for our flight, and I had my first ever bad experience with Norwegian Air (which is good because I fly them all of the time). Our bag was .2 kg overweight and they refused to let us carry it on, or to let us take anything out of it, which I have never in my life seen before. I was livid. It didn’t cost anything to check it through, but we have a dangerously short layover when we arrive in Dublin and having to wait on our bags honestly could make us miss our connection. Funny how my first bad experience with Norwegian ever was dealing with US-based gate agents, right?
The Canals
Our flight to Dublin was almost completely full and we had no window seat, only a middle and an aisle. The flight was only six hours and by some sort of miracle, I slept more than I almost ever do on international flights, even without a window seat! I guess I was just exhausted from only getting a few hours of sleep before having to get up so early today, but I truly was amazed. When we landed in Dublin it was off to the races to catch our next flight. We were changing airlines and only had an hour and a half because our flight was late on top of already having such a short amount of time. We raced to immigration where the line took about twenty minutes and then had to wait on our bags for another ten minutes (see? I had a right to be upset back in New York).
We had fifty minutes to make our flight at this point. We were flying Ryanair so we had to go to the gate to have them stamp our tickets since we are not from the EU - they call this a visa check but I call it a waste of time because literally no other airline requires it. We then went through security where our line ended up being the slowest and both of my bags were flagged for extra screening, of course. We now only had about ten minutes until boarding supposedly closed, but with European airlines, especially Ryanair, the boarding pass times can be exaggerated. However, they could also be accurate every now and then, so it is always best to play it extremely safe.
My mom went on to the gate to tell them that I was coming, and I had to run a good long ways after waiting ten minutes for my bags. Dripping sweat I made it to what seemed like the farthest away gate with only a few people left boarding. It was a miracle - we made it! It was a pretty quick flight and seemed almost over by the time we received the food that we ordered as we had yet to eat today.
When we arrived in Amsterdam immigration was simple and we then made our way to the train into the city. We bought our tickets at the terminal for about five euros and the ride itself took about twenty minutes. When we arrived we walked across the street from the train station to the GVB Tickets & Information office to buy our tram passes for two days. We then took the tram two stops to head to our hotel, Ambassade Hotel. It was a two-minute walk from the tram and boy, is it incredible!
We were greeted by Eelco, the reservations manager, and that was just the start to our amazing stay. Ambassade Hotel sits right on a canal and is such a cool place. Our room was beautiful with a canal view, amazing interior, and very cosy bed. Oh, and the best shower ever! The hotel itself has a stunning library that features over 4,000 books. And get this: they are all signed by the author, and every single author had stayed at or been to the hotel!  And we are talking some really famous authors, too. There is also a lot of art throughout the hotel which I especially loved.
After checking in, showering, and resting for a bit we then headed out for a few hours. We walked around the Nine Streets area, one of my favorite parts of Amsterdam that happens to be where Ambassade Hotel is located. It is filled with really cool shops and is so picturesque. It was a beautiful night and really enjoyable to walk around. Our first stop was an obvious one: the absolute, indisputable, greatest cookie shop in the entire world, Van Stapele Koekmakerij! I am not exaggerating people, they are the best. Dark chocolate cookie, white chocolate and chocolate chip middle, served straight out of the oven still piping hot. I have been dreaming about them since last being in Amsterdam a year and a half ago, and they are still every bit as good. I would literally fly across the Atlantic just for these cookies. So I think it goes without saying, but if you are ever in Amsterdam, definitely make the stop. There might be a line out the door but it is always worth it (and we were lucky enough not to have a line!).
After the cookies we had dinner at Eetcafe Singel 404. I had a tasty bacon, chicken, and cheese sandwich. It was a really cute little spot and we had a great view out the window. After dinner we went into a few shops, walked around a bit longer, and then visited the Cheese Museum. It is really just a cheese shop (with tons of free samples) with a small museum in the bottom, but it is such a happy little store and I recommend it as well. The coolest part about walking around, though, was all of the Christmas lights! They make an already beautiful city even better. When we walked back we stopped by the Anne Frank house. I did this on my last visit and I highly recommend it. It is such an interesting and well-done museum!
Afterwards, we headed to Dam Square, which is where the Royal Palace is located. We walked around for a few minutes and then headed into de Bijenkorf, which is a department store similar to a Saks or Harrods. It was nice and warm and enjoyable to walk through all of the cool floors and to see the Christmas windows and all of the Christmas decorations. By this point, we were getting pretty tired and decided to head back to our hotel to get a much needed good night's sleep. It was a crazy forty-eight hours, but I am so glad to be back in Europe and back in Amsterdam! We have a whole nother day to explore tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it.
