Okay friends we need to have a talk.

Måneskin is one of the most heavily marketed acts out there. Which means the way we perceive Victoria, Thomas, Damiano, and Ethan is not representative of them as human beings. A highly qualified publicity team takes the most marketable aspects of the band members personalities and curates them into an image made for public consumption. We consume this image on social media (which is managed with the help of their publicity team), during performances (where the band are using their stage personas), in interviews (for which they've undergone media training), etc.

Måneskin is a band, but it is also a brand from which you can buy music, tickets, and merchandise. It is a product curated to maximize profit. To this end, Damiano, Victoria, Ethan, and Thomas are also made into objects for public consumption. Their portrayal is not motivated by authenticity, but by potential for profit.

They are not actually these shiny, perfect people. And the problem with an image of perfection is that it takes away their humanity. Flaws are what make us human. Without them, we start to see band members as objects, which is no accident by their publicity team. The way an audience interacts with a fellow human involves ethical restraints not present when interacting with an object. Objectified people - or rather their image - can be bought and sold easily when associated with tangible products.

Think of The Damiano Maneskin, The Victoria Maneskin, The Ethan Maneskin, and The Thomas Maneskin as costumes worn by Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Ethan Torchio, and Thomas Raggi when they're working. The costumes look a lot like what is underneath, but there are significant and defining aspects missing.

When the band members are home, on break, or hanging out with family, friends, and S/O's, they take these consumes off. Now they are no longer Måneskin. They are just normal, flawed, fellow human beings who have entire lives outside of being celebrities. Outside of what you're entitled to know about. They are not the Damiano, Victoria, Ethan, and Thomas you know of. They are not a product. They are not objects. Do not interact with them as such.

Do not stalk them. Do not take photos and videos, especially when they're trying to spend time with their girlfriends. These are not the famous personalities you've fallen in love with. They are not engineered for your consumption right now. Leave them be. Måneskin already spend an unreasonable amount of time being a band, brand, and product. There is more content of them wearing their their celebrity costumes than you could ever consume. So don't take what you aren't entitled to. Respect their humanity.

and don't repost content where their privacy is being violated. That makes you part of the problem.

Finally watched the “Supermodel” vid and I think it’s boring? It could’ve been so much more than Må chasing some girl, especially given the lyrics. The quick cuts of the members making out with everyone at the party also felt out of place. If it had been the “main character” (the girl) of the vid doing that it would’ve been more coherent imo as the song lyrics are about the *supermodel’s* “irresponsible” behaviour, among other things. I suppose it needed to have a “signature” Må moment, but it seemed shoehorned in. 

By contrast I absolutely love the “so overtly sexual it’s camp” approach they went for in the IWBYS and Mammamia MVs (with violence in the latter as well; I could watch Vic bloodily stab Damiano for days ). Those vids feature only the band members as main characters. Which brings me to my next point.

The “Supermodel” MV can’t seem to decide whether the main character is the titular supermodel or the band members.  I think the vid would’ve been much better if the latter hadn‘t appeared in it at all as the band is just going to outshine anyone who is presented as a main/focus character alongside them. It would also have been more effective in driving home the point of the lyrics, I think. 

The song is good but generic. The MV is a straight-up disappointment.
