Okay, I still think it's super hilarious that Dubstep was taken from the UK and made better (which is actually called Brostep btw)

Music
“Where words fail, music speaks.” -Shakespeare, Hans Christian Anderson
Music has always been a very big part of my life; I hear it every morning when I wake up, I hear it a lot in Church, I stream it online, I watch music and lyric videos of my favourite artists/genres, a day never goes by in my life without having any though of music creep into my mind.
Like any art form, music is available in many different genres and languages that anyone can enjoy music. You got your pop, soul, ballad, jazz, country, OPM, acoustic, techno, dubstep, EDM, rap, hip-hop, classical, rock, metal, alternative, folk, indie, experimental, psychedelic, and so on.
The evolution and growth of music as a whole is something quite amazing if you think about it. From something exclusively on vinyls and broadcasted on TV and on the radio, now it’s all over the online world. It’s just something that can speak to anyone of any background, which is rare in today’s society.
Heavy, Hard, Alternative
My personal favourites as I am growing as an adolescent. Although I do like a good pop or r&b tune, there’s just something else when it comes to rock and metal. Similar to rap (another genre I love) it’s a somewhat a major turn off for some of my friends ‘cause apparently they can’t get past the “noise”. As much as I would like to rant to them in person I’ll just do it here, behind what you call “noise” (I call beautiful instrumentation of guitars, bass, drum, etc.) are very deep undertones, lyrics, messages, and meanings.
The good thing about these songs is that it can be covered/reimagined in many various instrumentations or genres that even though it sounds like a different tune the song’s meaning remains albeit in a softer, sometimes deeper tone. Hearing these songs as an acoustic or piano ballad really brings out the emotion in the lyrics and the song as much as it would with the normal instruments from the song. Which allows my friends to listen to these songs and appreciate them as well.
Of all the bands of mine that I’ve been listening to for years now with this style only one of them have stuck with me for so long and their band name is “Avenged Sevenfold”. Biblical inspiration with their name, although they don’t make worship/church songs like their name might imply, their music focuses on topics like loss, love, opportunities, depression, loneliness, and so on. (They have happy songs too I swear, just can’t think of them off of the top of my head) Songs of theirs like “Higher”, “Coming Home”, “Crimson Day”, “Seize the Day”, “Warmness on the Soul”, “Chapter Four”, “Gunslinger”, “Brompton Cocktail”, “Fiction”, “So Far Away”, “Save Me”, and many, many more (also their covers of various classic songs; “God Only Knows”, “Wish You Were Here”, “As Tears Go By”, and so on) have really helped me through tough times in my life.
“Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.” -Martin Luther
The Medicine of the Mind
I’ve really been valuing music ever since I was diagnosed with my mental disorders (depression, anxieties, paranoia, you know - the usual for our generation if we’re being honest) out of all the things that I enjoy in this world; your video games, your movies, your anime, your K-drama, and so on, music is something that has impacted me the most out of all those. Learning to play instruments (guitar, piano, drums) as well as enhancing my singing voice really helps me let out my emotions and stress.
There’s just something about music where it’s just so soothing and calming. The songs I listen to, the overall mood and lyrics are just so relatable. I always get this sense of like getting hit by a mac truck of feels.
Like right now, I’m going through a lot and have found out a lot of things this week that have made me feel very uncomfortable and guilty and stupid and regretful. So instead of allowing my sadness/depression to engulf me yet again, I’ve been listening to alternative music on repeat for the past few days. Especially by this band called the Arctic Monkeys, maybe you’ve heard of them. I only really got into them this week because I remembered their name from someone I knew and I gave them a try. Little did I know that I would end up listening to them nonstop and purchase their latest album “AM” which honestly is one of the greatest albums I’ve heard in quite a long time. Songs like “Do I Wanna Know?”, “R U Mine?”, “Snap Out Of It”, “I Wanna Be Yours”, and so on have really hit me hard lyrically and the overall feels of the songs are not only calming but also thought provoking.
