This is my journal, started in January this year. I've been keeping them for over 10 years and they all sit in a box in my mother's garage, or they pile up here in Spain until I get them back there.
The first page has quotes from Persuasion, by Jane Austen, which is a book my penpal in Canada sent me, we often exchange books. I actually just finished another one she sent me called Deafening, by Frances Itani. It is a story of a young woman who loses her hearing as a child and has to learn language all over again. But I like the way one person on GoodReads described it as an 'ode to language' as it really focuses on that aspect of the story. Highly recommended.
The flowers and leaves are from my summer school, this beautiful place which I will miss dreadfully as I doubt we will be returning to this same place.
I had a really turbulent weekend and a lot happened. I just finished writing about it in here but not sure when I will be able to relay it here.
I really walked through the city to work yesterday feeling like a different person, when I arrived at the school 3 kids gave me a hug... for the first time since we started a few weeks ago. I was really touched.
"I don't want all that much. But I want to be fine. I want to live a simple life with many good moments and a lot of fun."
- Naive, Super by Erlend Loe.

Catch That Kid (2004)
My rating: 6/10
So the male leads are still capricious, entitled little jackasses, but apart from that I still kind of like this movie

i bought my textbook used online, to not only find that it is from 2003, so prob. like 5 editions behind, and that all the tasks in lessons 1, 2 and 3 are already filled in. So I get to practice my Norwegian by correcting the previous owner's mistakes...

Hi, are there any relatively modern (past ~75 years) Norwegian authors you'd recommend? I'm more interested in genre fiction if you want to narrow it down, but anything goes. Thanks!
(Post on classic Norwegian literature)
I have a few! I unfortunately don't read much Norwegian literature, and the authors I have strong feelings about are older (namely Amalie Skram, Ibsen and Krogh).
Dag Solstad I haven't read but heard so much that I know I must.
Erlend Loe I haven't read myself, but heard great things about him. Has a very charming writing style.
Gerd Nyqvist, Norway's Agatha Christie. Only read one of her novels, "Avdøde ønsket ikke blomster" (the deceased did not want flowers at the funeral), but I liked it.
Jostein Gaarder writes philosophical and esoteric novels. The Christmas Mystery, The Cabal Mystery, and Sophie's World are all fantastic (though you have to start on December 1st with The Christmas Mystery and make your way through one chapter a day)
Unni Lindell is a crime author, though I haven't read any of her crime novels. I have, however, read "Knut - Nobody's baby", which is an autobiography told through the cats which have impacted her life, the most formative being a cat named Knut who forced her to move several times (she tried moving away from him at one point, didn't work out), became a national celebrity, and caused furore among the Norwegian cultural elite on several occasions. I'm not sure if Knut has been translated to English, but I'm hoping some of her works are.
Vigdis Hjorth because she is so incredibly controversial. Triggered national debate when she wrote a novel about sexual molestation in the family that was inspired by her real family even though she's never been molested, which made her family so upset that her sister wrote a novel about when your sister writes a novel about how she totally got molested except she didn't. From what I hear, the novel Hjorth wrote ("Arv og miljø", hopefully been translated to English) was really good and I've been meaning to read it.

96/365:
I finished reading the book I started on February (finally!). It was different but in a good way. I liked it. -> Doppler by Erlend Loe
Found really good place to order food when the food I make finishes.
Morning lesson that supposed to be done tomorrow morning canceled. Thank you god, zeus, sky, universe etc etc
I texted a friend to ask if she’s doing okay because I thought she was a bit cold to me which is totally okay because I turn ice cold person on pms but it turned out she’s not cold to me but she’s irritated in general because of working with people she doesn’t like this month. Very unnecessarily long sentence. Wow. Anyway the point is taking the first step might not be as bad as we think.

Hi. I love your blog and am really interested to know what are your favourite movies & books? Also, I hope you are well. Have a beautiful day. 🌼
it's always a surprise to receive an ask on this blog, thank you. i'm glad someone enjoys this place. i don't have enough time to read books that i want, unfortunately. but from those i have read my favourites are : 'devils' and 'poor folk' by fyodor m. dostoevskij 'is-slottet' by tarjei vesaas 'empire of the sun' by j.g ballard 'doppler' by erlend loe 'mannen som elsket yngve' by tore renberg
my taste in films is narrow, i rarely watch any beside war/communist documentaries found on youtube. 'come and see' from 1985 is maybe a film that i watched too many times.
have a peaceful day.

Erlend Loe's Muleum was one such book for me when I was in my late teens, 19 maybe? I'd like to reread that some day, actually.
Rereading books we loved when we were younger 💘 I used to do that all the time w The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Idk the way he used words blew my mind when I was a teenager. I love perusing Norwegian works I find them a very pensive kind thank you for sharing!

7, 17, 28, and 41 for the ask game, pls? sending all the good ~~vibes~~ your way, jana! :3 - 🔮⛈️
Thank you, Enchant!
7. Favorite/most inspirational book?
Maurice by E M Forster and Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge. They live in my head rent free and they both have a similar vibe to my WIP Cotton Mendings, which is a bonus.
17. What things (scenes/topics/character types) are you most comfortable writing?
Queer and usually neurodivergent POV characters, queerness in historical time periods in general, morally gray characters, characters who are arrogant little assholes, anything written in 2nd person, flashback scenes, scenes where the narrator is just monologuing about their deteriorating mental state and how trans they are-
28. How do you stay focused on your own work and how do you deal with comparison?
I don't. Know? I usually don't get distracted once I start writing a scene and when I'm not writing I rotate my characters in my brain like rotisserie chicken. I don't have like, a process for it?? Then again I write only when I feel like it so there's that. And as for comparing myself to others, I don't really do that? Or if I do it doesn't affect me enough for me to even remember doing it so. I dunno.
41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer?
The Story Of Mr Sommer by Patrick Süskind, literally anything Frances Hardinge has ever written but especially Fly By Night and Cuckoo Song, Trigger Warning and Neverwhere and Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman, books written in like the 19th or first half of the 20th century, so Maurice by E M Forster, the Arsenè Lupin series by Maurice Leblanc, the Sherlock Holmes series, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. Also shout out to Naïve. Super by Erlend Loe. It feels odd seeing all these books in one list but like. I'm not wrong.

So one of the greatest authors in Norway, Erlend Loe, has published his review of dwd, calling it «thin soup» which we say about things lacking substance🫣 He writes and critiques scripts and films so he knows what he is talking about.
“The rumours are sadly more interesting than the movie”
“Hard to understand how Silberman and Wilde went from booksmart to dwd” Well I mean, that was about ready for production when they couped it, right?
the funny part is that they stole the script for booksmart 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭

Ezeket olvastam ősszel
Szeptember:
Erlend Loe: Doppler hazatér
Jonathan Franzen: Diszkomfortzóna
Naomi Alderman: Engedetlenség
Emma Donoghue: Menedék
Karin Tidbeck: Rénszarvas-hegy és más történetek a peremlétről
Október-november:
Rácz Laura Rebecca: Tudatosan gyermektelenek
Ilona Andrews: Magic Breaks
Amelia Nagoski és Emily Nagoski: Érzelmi kiégés
Ilona Andrews: Magic Shifts
Ilona Andrews: Magic Binds
Ilona Andrews: Magic Triumphs
