Ripping Corpse New Jersey, US Band photos, media, and their debut LP "Dreaming With the Dead"
Somewhat of a hybrid of speed metal and proto-brutal death metal, this album delivers some great riffs over the sickly vocals done by the great Scott Ruth. Erik Rutan early cameo as well (who later went on to star in Hate Eternal).
Definite recommend if you like brutal sound.

Cannibal Corpse - Chaos Horrific
Heavy music in 2023 has been rather strange for me, mainly being that I just haven’t been into a lot of stuff. I love heavy metal, especially hardcore and death metal, but that love started almost a decade ago. For some context into my love for metal, especially death metal, I was 20-years-old, and by that point, I had been listening to a lot of classic rock, alt-rock, emo, metalcore, and deathcore, thanks to being emo / scene back around 15 years ago. I was branching out at the time I turned 19 and 20 by being into pop/punk and indie-rock, but forwards the end of the year, I started listening to some classic metal bands, including Metallica and Black Sabbath. I wanted to get heavier, and both At The Gates and Cannibal Corpse released new albums. The former band released their first album in almost 20 years, whereas death metal stalwarts Cannibal Corpse were back after a couple of years, but their 2014 LP, A Skeletal Domain, almost brought forth a creative renaissance for the band. In retrospect, this record was seen as one of their best albums and the first in their current rebirth, where they’re just killing it more and more with each record.
Cannibal Corpse is a lot of peoples’ first death metal band, but they are the biggest death metal band in the world. They were certainly mine, but they have the blueprint for what I love in the genre — a charismatic and brutal vocalist, horror-inspired lyrics, and a sound that is both a ton of fun and interesting at the same time. A lot of their records sound the same, and they’re very much a consistent band, but I don’t usually care about Cannibal Corpse doing that where they offer small tweaks into their sound that make each album different in subtle ways. After listening to the latest Cannibal Corpse album, Chaos Horrific, I can safely say that idea still applies but in one of the best and most interesting ways since first hearing A Skeletal Domain all of those years ago, and for the first time this year, I’m excited for a death metal / extreme metal record.
Last year had a lot, and this year has had some really great records, but there hasn’t been anything that I truly love and/or have been blown away by. Chaos Horrific is an album that showcases the reasons why I love both this band and death metal as a whole. This album is interesting off the bat, because it’s their second album with Hate Eternal mastermind Erik Rutan, who joined a few years ago and his first album was 2021’s Violence Unimagined. I really liked that record, but I haven’t listened to it that much, so I need to go back to it. Apparently, Chaos Horrific was written concurrently with Violence Unimagined, but you wouldn’t be able to tell, since the sounds of both albums are rather different. If anything, Furan’s influence in a melodic death metal really shows its hand, as there are a lot of very melodic guitar solos that show up throughout this record, but at the same time, this is some of the most punishing and brutal stuff this band has ever done.
Here’s the thing, though — if you’re not a fan, or you don’t like death metal, you won’t pick up on the subtleties, because it all sounds the same. I get that, but this record is a bit different compared to what we’ve gotten before from them. This album is also quite lean at being only 39 minutes, so it’s a quick little listen. It works to its advantage, though, as this album has the perfect length and doesn’t need to be any longer. The band is on top here, whether it’s bassist Alex Webster opening up the album with a sick bassline, or the one of most iconic heavy metal vocalists George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher providing a really cool performance throughout the album that combines his brutal growl with a more rapid fire flow he’s been doing the last handful of years.
This record is just everything I could have wanted in a new Cannibal Corpse album, as well as a death metal album this year. A lot of my favorite albums from the past couple of years are really fun, albeit straightforward and/or “generic.” I just love albums that are fun, catchy, and give me something to go back, versus being weird and unique. Death metal is the most “primal” of the extreme metal sub genres, and it’s just a lot of fun when it’s done well. Cannibal Corpse is the first death metal band I got into, and this album makes me feel like I’m listening to them for the first time in the last decade. Sure, I love their first handful of records, and I’ve played those albums to death, but their more recent output has been on par with it. Chaos Horrific is an utterly fantastic record, and easily one of the best albums of the year in my book. I’ve been looking for an extreme metal album that gets me excited about the genre, but I haven’t found it until now.

CANNIBAL CORPSE AND GORGUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey folks sorry for running 5 days late but better late than never, here's my 9th review of 2023: Cannibal Corpse and Gorguts!!!!!!! This was my 8th time seeing Cannibal Corpse as I saw them play a sold out show at Danforth Music Hall 10 months ago, which was 3 weeks before Walter Froebrich died so this was a bittersweet night since Cannibal Corpse was the last show I saw Walter at before his death. It was also the first time in 14 years I saw Cannibal Corpse at Rebel but it was then known as Sound Academy and it was when they were direct support for Hatebreed, and it was when CC blew Hatebreed clean off the stage.
Let's start the festivities!
By the time I arrived, Blood Incantation were finishing up their set and I remember they were nothing special when I saw them with Obituary and Immolation back in May.
After Blood Incantation it was time for GORGUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my 2nd time seeing them as I first saw them 9 years ago at Opera House when they were on the Decibel Tour where Carcass were the headliners and I remember Gorguts being awesome. They were incredible once again as they were kicking the ever loving shit out of Blood Incantation and hopefully someday when they return, they'll play a headlining show as they're absolutely incredible live. Here's their setlist:
1. Rottenatomy
2. Disincarnated
3. Bodily Corrupted
4. Considered Dead
5. Inoculated Life
6. Obscura
After Gorguts got off the stage, I went outside the smoking area to skip Mayhem's set as seeing them 3 times live was good enough for me especially seeing them play at Wacken Open Air 2017 when they played all of De Mysteriis Dom Satahanas from front to back since that's the album I like the best and I made a vow to myself "That's the final time I'm seeing Mayhem live because nothing tops this set" and I'm sticking with that vow because the 1st time I saw Mayhem live they were great, 2nd time they were boring, 3rd time they were boring but them playing all of De Mysteriis live salvaged their set for me. This was also the 3rd consecutive Rebel show where I skipped the direct support/1st co-headlining band as the previous two Rebel shows I went to which were Amon Amarth and Behemoth, Arch Enemy were on the bill both times and that was my queue to go out in the smoking area. It did feel great to get caught up with my friends.
After Mayhem it was time for the death metal juggernauts CANNIBAL CORPSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my 8th time seeing them and as I said earlier first time in 14 years seeing them at Rebel but back when it was known as Sound Academy, difference is 14 years ago they had Pat O'Brien in the lineup and this time around it's Erik Rutan on lead guitar. Also Corpsegrinder was funny once again with his in-between song banters as he said the following for the first one "I just heard somebody say 'Play something heavy' are your fucking ears working or not? I'll show you how heavy my fists are when I'm busting your skull. THAT'S RIGHT I'M FUCKIN PISSED OFF!!!! Listen I wouldn't hurt a soul, but you're a dumbass the same place they're having us. You obviously have no brains. But anyway, how the fuck are you doing besides Mr. Unheavy? It only takes a little bit to make me angry and yell at people. So this next song is for any one of you out there, except for Mr. Heavy because it's probably not good enough for ya. But it's for any of you out there who are probably interested in bangin' your fuckin' heads. TRY to keep up with me! You will FAIL MISERABLY, but you can still try, there is no harm in that. This is a fun little song, about SHOOTING BLOOD FROM YOUR COCK!!!!! IIIIIIIIII CUUUUUMMMMM BLOOOOOOODDDDD!!!!!" Then after Corpsegrinder finished headbanging at the beginning he yelled "I WIN!!!" Before he trolled the crowd with his last song spiel, he tried catching a stuffed animal being thrown at him and he said "Oh what a terrible catch I made" and my pal Stogie pointed out it was karma for him mocking people who dropped water bottles he would throw, but of course Corpsegrinder is not afraid to mock himself. Then he trolled the crowd before announcing "the last song" Stripped, Raped, and Strangled once again especially with him going " Wah, Wah, Wah, Wahhhhhhoh" and then he said before Hammer Smashed Face "I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUUUUUUUU" Here's their setlist:
1. Scourge of Iron
2. Blood Blind
3. Disfigured
4. Eviscerated Plague
5. Inhumane Harvest
6. Death Walking Terror
7. Chaos Horrific
8. I Cum Blood
9. Summoned for Sacrifice
10. Pounded Into Dust
11. Disposal of the Body
12. Pit of Zombies
13. Stripped, Raped, and Strangled
14. Hammer Smashed Face
Overall an awesome show, even though 1st and 3rd bands were hit and miss, and a great way to spend a Wednesday night and as always Rebel still sucks and blows.
HEAVY METAL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CORPSEGRINDER – Corpsegrinder
Tumblr media

Erik Rutan joined Cannibal Corpse as their full-time guitarist in 2020, however has produced each one of many band's information since Kill in 2006 (minus A Skeletal Domain in 2014 which was produced by Mark Lewis). Now in an interview with Decibel Magazine, Rutan has named the band's 1994 album The Bleeding and 2006's Kill as the 2 information he'd wish to play in full stay… and possibly Tomb Of The Mutilated.Advertisement. Scroll to proceed studying. "You know, it is robust as a result of there's like all these totally different period and iterations of Cannibal Corpse for my part. And I'm not talking nearly like, Barnes and Corpsegrinder after all. "I guess you'd say, [the quintessential] albums of course would be like The Bleeding because I think that's just, like considered pretty much a Cannibal Corpse classic in my opinion. Just to think of how many songs we – even before I was in the band, of course – played off The Bleeding at random times. There [are] just so many great songs. But man, I mean Kill would be another record that I think would be great. I feel like that was some kind of turning point for the band [in the] sense of the direction that Kill went in.[Those are] two great records of many records." Rutan later jokes that "we could do like a tour for every record." Which could be superior, however would even be 15 full excursions. It would additionally imply in some unspecified time in the future having to play "Frantic Disembowelment" each single evening, lowering everybody within the band's limbs and digits to nubs (in response to Setlist.fm, band has performed the track as soon as ever stay in 2004). Cannibal Corpse will headline Decibel's Metal & Beer Fest taking place this June 10 and 11 alongside Candlemass taking part in Epicus Doomicus Metallicus in full. Check that every one out right here.Advertisement. Scroll to proceed studying. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_lzbj_yna8[/embed] Want More Metal?
