The mangaka of Gangsta. once made tarot cards based on her characters, and I wondered: what card would would our Bernardo be? Now, while all Major Arcana have been assigned by the important characters, there are still others that act as supporting character to the protagonist(s), and this is where the Minor Arcana comes in! With that in mind:

I would assign Bernardo with the Page of Swords.

He would be a Page because he is only starting out in the latest chapters of the manga (starting from ch49), a fresh face. As well, he seems to be the youngest member of the Corsica family so far as indicated by the ring he wears (this was pointed out by my dear friend in this post). He has more of an assisting role unlike the others (Uranus is the head of the family, Georgiana leads the "Pussy" brothel; others like Svetlana in charge of weapons/combat training). He is carefree and spontaneous, and can be seen as "less serious" because of this although he tries to give a good impression. He appears to have his job roles changes regularly by the family as "this time" his job is to assist the core troops. So, he is tackling with something new again.

Swords relate to communication and intelligence. He is shown to be quite talkative, knows about rumors & information on people (about "Storage" and that he was part of the Monroe family), and if not, he'll go out of his way to gather the information or keep it from you (even when he was unable to attain any new info about Worick, he doesn't give up. This is why he's a Page bc he is still learning). His role, as mentioned, is to plan and assist the core troops of Destroyers in their diversionary operation. Meaning, they have to find clever ways to distract their enemies and reach their goal efficiently. He also has a way with words, he seems to be a good communicator and can encourage you for a job well done (as he did to Emilio) or to wittily insult you (re: the "foreplay" comment with Worick). This fits with Swords again as they can also cause conflicts and tensions, which Bernardo is trying to balance out (in his favor).

L’ASD Maratona Del Matesannio avrà una squadra di 10 ciclisti, sabato la presentazione

Melillo Claudio Emilio; Cassella Alessandro Davide; Di Girolamo Ignazio; Di Bartolomeo Gianluigi; Ferrarro Claudio Benedetto; Leonardo Gianni Paolo; Mancino Alessio; Montalto Maurizio; Peluso Antonio e Rossi Filippo. Questi sono i nomi dei dieci ciclisti che vestiranno la maglia della squadra “Maratona Del Matesannio”.

L’atteso evento si terrà sabato 23 marzo a partire dalle ore 10:00 presso la Casa Municipale di Gioia Sannitica (CE).

Saranno 5 gli sponsor che supporteranno gli atleti prossimi al loro debutto in occasione della undicesima “Matesannio Marathon”, in programma per il 26 maggio, e che interverranno alla presentazione: Filippo Liverini della Mangimi Liverini SpA; Alfredo Minieri della Impresa Minieri SpA; Ivano Fattore della Top Car Srl; Tina Imperadore del Castello Ducale di Faicchio e Marco Audino della Lumia Srl.

Un grande lavoro di squadra quello fatto dall’ASD MDM che negli anni ha raggiunto vette altissime nel panorama ciclistico italiano. Un lavoro di squadra che culmina con la presentazione di un vero e proprio Team che avrà l’onere e l’onore di rappresentare il Matese in tutta Italia.

Partigiana, capitana delle brigate Giustizia e Libertà e medaglia d’argento al valor militare, femminista, poeta, scrittrice, traduttrice, ecologista, divulgatrice, attivista. Questo è stata Joyce Lussu, importante protagonista della storia del ventesimo secolo.

Nacque a Firenze col nome di Gioconda Salvadori Paleotti, l’8 maggio 1912, ma in casa era chiamata Joyce. Lussu è stato, invece, il cognome del marito.

Sua madre era Giacinta Galletti de Cadilhac figlia e nipote di garibaldini, il padre, Guglielmo Salvadori, docente universitario e primo traduttore del filosofo Herbert Spencer. Malmenato e minacciato dalle camicie nere, dopo aver pubblicato articoli contro Mussolini, fu costretto all’esilio con la famiglia in Svizzera, nel 1924.

Joyce Lussu ha passato l’adolescenza all’estero, in collegi e ambienti cosmopoliti, maturando un’educazione non formale, ispirata agli interessi della famiglia per la cultura, l’impegno politico e la propensione alla curiosità, al dialogo, ai rapporti sociali. Vivevano in una casa “abitata più dai libri che dai mobili”.

Laureata in Lettere alla Sorbonne di Parigi e in Filologia a Lisbona, a Ginevra, nel 1933, per la prima volta, conobbe Emilio Lussu, eroe della Prima Guerra Mondiale, famoso per l’audace fuga dal confino a Lipari insieme a Carlo Rosselli, il padre della poeta Amelia Rosselli. Si innamorarono immediatamente ma lui non voleva impegnarsi e condurla nella sua vita errabonda.

Nel 1934 sposò Aldo Belluigi, un giovane ricco possidente fascista di Tolentino, insieme si recarono in Kenya, per raggiungere suo fratello Max che aveva aperto un’impresa agricola di cui divennero soci. Il matrimonio durò un paio di anni e, nel 1936, lei si trasferì in Tanganica, mentre lui, dopo aver perduto tutto il suo patrimonio, fece ritorno in Italia. Tra il 1934 e il 1938 Joyce Lussu ha viaggiato e soggiornato in diverse zone dell’Africa, conoscendo da vicino la realtà del colonialismo, tema da allora affrontato in diverse sue opere.

Tornata dall’Africa e entrata a far parte attiva nel movimento Giustizia e Libertà fece in modo di ritrovare Emilio Lussu, instancabile organizzatore della resistenza degli esiliati. L’amore sopito rinacque e si sposarono con una cerimonia civile che definirono ‘socialista’ in Francia, dove si era concentrato lo sforzo antifascista italiano. Da allora condivisero la vita in clandestinità, la battaglia politica prima e durante la Resistenza, la nascita di un figlio e il resto della esistenza dell’uomo, morto nel 1975.

Nel 1939 ha scritto Liriche, un libro di poesie curato da Benedetto Croce, affascinato dalla sua storia.

Nel 1940, con l’occupazione di Parigi, la coppia trovò riparo a Marsiglia da dove organizzavano partenze clandestine verso gli Stati Uniti. Emilio si occupava della logistica mentre Joyce falsificava documenti.

Attraversarono a piedi i Pirenei fino a raggiungere Lisbona dove entrarono in contatto con i gruppi di resistenza statunitensi e con la società Mazziniana. In Inghilterra ha imparato a usare le armi e le tattiche di guerriglia.

Tornata in Italia entrò nella lotta partigiana col nome di battaglia Simonetta. Ha raccontato  questo periodo in Fronti e Frontiere, del 1946.

A liberazione avvenuta, ha vissuto da protagonista i primi passi della Repubblica Italiana e il percorso del Partito D’Azione, fino al suo scioglimento.

Ha militato per qualche tempo nel PSI e, nel 1948, fatto parte della direzione nazionale del partito. Preferì, però, tornare a occuparsi di attività culturali e politiche autonome, insofferente a vincoli e condizionamenti d’apparato.

Ha vissuto per un periodo in Sardegna dove ha organizzato la partecipazione politica delle donne e, nel 1953, contribuito alla fondazione dell’Unione Donne Italiane, da cui presto si è allontanata.

Dal 1958 al 1960, ha continuato a battersi nel segno del rinnovamento dei valori libertari dell’antifascismo, spostando il suo orizzonte di riferimento nella direzione delle lotte contro l’imperialismo.

Sono seguiti anni di viaggi con organizzazioni internazionali della pace, con movimenti di liberazione anti colonialistici.

Tra il 1958 e il 1960 si è impegnata nella traduzione di molti altri poeti resistenti. Ha tradotto poeti albanesi, curdi, eschimesi, l’angolano Agostinho Nieto, il Diario dal carcere di Ho Chi Mihn, gli afroamericani del black power. Tradurre per lei significava far viaggiare le parole e continuare a far circolare i valori della Resistenza.

La sua traduzione delle poesie del turco Nazim Hikmet è, ancora oggi, tra le più lette in Italia.

Il suo impegno nella traduzione è stato un atto politico. Dava voce a chi raccontava l’oppressione di un popolo e approfittando del lavoro culturale, ha aiutato a evadere prigionieri politici, ha marciato con i guerriglieri e organizzato la fuga della moglie di Hikmet con il figlio. Grazie al poeta turco è entrata a conoscenza della questione curda e si è recata in Kurdistan dove ha incontrato la resistenza dei peshmerga e il popolo “costretto a vivere da straniero nel suo territorio” (come lo ha definito nell’autobiografia Portrait).

Dalla metà degli anni Sessanta ha sposato la causa del popolo curdo che l’ha condotta nel mondo e, soprattutto, nelle scuole.

Dall’esperienza terzomondista (con Mario Albano aveva fondato, nel 1966, l’ARMAL, Associazione per i rapporti con i movimenti africani di liberazione) derivò, a partire dagli anni settanta, il suo impegno per la riscoperta e la valorizzazione della “altra storia”, quella delle tradizioni locali messe in crisi dalla industrializzazione.

Nel ’68, ha sostenuto le proteste studentesche, si è avvicinata all’ecologismo e preso parte alla lotta femminista degli Anni 70.

Convinta che fosse necessario scrivere una storia delle donne, troppo escluse dalla storia, ha scritto L’uomo che voleva nascere donna. Diario femminista a proposito della guerra in cui racconta il ruolo delle donne nel conflitto e nel suo esito.

Si è interessata alla storia locale, alla questione agraria, alle tradizioni popolari, al sapere femminile, in maniera diretta con la cultura materiale, come aveva fatto in Sardegna tra le donne della Barbagia.

Nel 1976 è stato pubblicato il libro Padre, padrone, padreterno col sottotitolo Breve storia di schiave e matrone, villane e castellane, streghe e mercantesse, proletarie e padrone.

Ha dedicato una parte fondamentale della sua straordinaria carica vitale al rapporto con i giovani e le giovani, nell’ipotesi di un futuro di pace, da costruire con impegno sistematico e conoscenze adeguate del passato, degli errori, delle violenze e delle ingiustizie che non dovevano ripetersi.

Conservando sempre una diffidenza nei confronti delle istituzioni, ha riposto massima fiducia e apertura verso le nuove generazioni.

Ha occupato una parte notevole del suo tempo in scuole di ogni ordine e grado, animando incontri che incrociavano percorsi di storia, poesia, autobiografia, progettualità sociale.

È morta a Roma il 4 novembre 1998.

Sono ancora poche, troppo poche, le persone che conoscono Joyce Lussu, donna rivoluzionaria, sempre in lotta col potere costituito. Indipendente, allergica ai dogmi e agli stereotipi ideologici, dallo spirito indomito, grande anticipatrice di importanti temi politici e sociali.

Joyce Lussu, una vita per la libertà

Una donna che per tutto il Novecento cercò di vedere il mondo con occhi nuovi… Joyce Lussu nacque come Gioconda Salvadori a Firenze, l’8 maggio 1912, da Giacinta Galletti de Cadilhac figlia e nipote di garibaldini, e Guglielmo Salvadori, docente universitario e primo traduttore del filosofo Herbert Spencer, più volte minacciato dalle camicie nere, poi costretto all’esilio con la famiglia in Svizzera, nel 1924. La giovane Joyce passò l’adolescenza all’estero, in collegi e ambienti cosmopoliti, maturando un forte interesse per la cultura, l’impegno politico e la propensione alla curiosità, al dialogo, ai rapporti sociali. A Heidelberg, mentre seguiva le lezioni del filosofo Karl Jaspers, vide, con allarmata e critica vigilanza, i primi sintomi del nazismo poi visse in Francia e in Portogallo e si laureò in Lettere alla Sorbonne di Parigi e in Filologia a Lisbona. Tra il 1933 e il 1938 si recò più volte in Africa e  l’interesse per la natura e per lo sfruttamento colonialistico di genti e paesi furono, da allora, fortemente legati alla sua scrittura e alla sua vita. A Ginevra Joyce conobbe Emilio Lussu, eroe della Prima Guerra Mondiale, famoso per la fuga dal confino a Lipari insieme a Carlo Rosselli, padre della poetessa Amelia Rosselli. Nel 1934 Joyce sposò un ricco possidente fascista e nell’estate dello stesso anno si trasferì con lui in Kenya dove il fratello Max ha avviato una fattoria, ma l’impresa, come il matrimonio, terminò poco dopo. Nel 1940, quando Parigi fu occupata, la coppia fuggì  a Marsiglia da dove organizzarono  partenze clandestine verso gli Stati Uniti e se Emilio si occupava della logistica, Joyce falsificava  documenti. I Lussu poi passarono i Pirenei e raggiunsero Lisbona dove entrarono in contatto con i gruppi di resistenza statunitensi e con la Mazzini Society. In Inghilterra Joyce frequentò un campo di addestramento, dove imparò a usare le armi e le tattiche di guerriglia, poi tornò in Italia subito dopo la caduta di Mussolini e entrò nella lotta partigiana, con il nome di Simonetta. Per la sua militanza raggiunse il grado di Capitana e fu decorata con la medaglia d’argento al valor militare. A liberazione avvenuta, Joyce visse da protagonista i primi passi della Repubblica Italiana e il percorso del Partito D’Azione, fino al suo scioglimento, per poi occuparsi di attività culturali e politiche autonome, insofferente ai vincoli. Con la famiglia andò in Sardegna per visitare il piccolo villaggio di Armungia dove il marito è nato, viaggiò poi a cavallo per ascoltare le storie dei pastori, dei contadini e soprattutto delle donne. Organizzò la partecipazione politica delle donne sarde nel 1951 e nel 1953 contribuì  alla fondazione dell’Unione Donne Italiane. Dal 1958 al 1960, continuando a battersi nel segno del rinnovamento dei valori libertari dell’antifascismo, Joyce spostò il suo orizzonte di riferimento nella direzione delle lotte contro l’imperialismo. La Lussu tra il 1958 e il 1960 si impegnò nella traduzione di poeti albanesi, curdi, eschimesi, come l’angolano Agostinho Nieto, il Diario dal carcere di Ho Chi Mihn e gli afroamericani del black power. Alex Benedetto, now there's a character with a past that will forever impact her future.

Alex Benedetto, a young woman in her 20s who has gone through a lot of shit in the past, leading to her present self who is now a keen and curious person, always willing to finish whatever job the handymen trick her into starting next.

Connecting with people seems to be really important to her. We see this with her learning sign language so she can talk to Nick, as well as helping the handymen (Worick and Nick) out by answering the phone and doing a lot of their chores for them.

The reason behind this is probably her previous job as a prostitute, where she worked for that one man. She didn't get to connect emotionally with people during this time, which is something that everyone needs. People who don't get enough emotional connection tend to cling to the few they have, which is most likely why she sticks around.

Alex also has a brother (Emilio Benedetto) though she doesn't remember him due to losing her earlier memories from the TBs that were given to her during her time as a prostitute. When she sings at Bastard we see her brother recognize her voice and try to enter the building. This tells us that he remembers her and does want to see her.

Alex was the one who raised her brother, which means they must have had a strong relationship at some point. This is very probably where her caring nature comes from, and explains why she is so good at working for the handymen.

nicolas brown. / gangsta. / cis man. / bisexual. / twilight; thai-chinese american & ashkenazi jewish. / 34. / scorpio sun. / dark neutral. / chella man. / canon compliant & headcanon/exomemory based. / #654321. / secondary. asoiaf verse available; more tba. nicolas is a deaf twilight & currently works as a mercenary in benriya alongside alex benedetto & worick arcangelo. he was the illegitimate son of west gate mercenary commander gaston brown & an unnamed twilight sex worker. gaston killed nicolas' mother after she gave birth & took the child to add to his mercenary group to avoid the expense of simply hiring a twilight mercenary. nicolas was born deaf, & between his deafness & gaston's control of his celebrer supply, the drug vital to his survival, gaston kept him obedient & dependent. he endures constant abuse from his father & the rest of the mercenary group without resistance until gaston assigned nicolas as worick's bodyguard & the two eventually became friends, bonding over their abusive fathers. his father later abandoned him & nicolas, despite knowing his father was abusive, was left in a state of shock due to his abandonment, remained as worick's bodyguard. after the brutal massacre of the arcangelo family, nicolas & worick ran away together to escape the carnage & started a new life on the streets of ergastulum, california. nicolas is mostly quiet & aloof even to people he likes, he occasionally speaks out of irritation or when someone isn't able to understand sign language, but mostly keeps to himself as to save himself the trouble of accommodating those who can't communicate with him. frequently irritable, he's also capable of small acts of kindness, such as playing with small children like nina or steadying alex when she's shaking too much to open her medication. he seems to find slight enjoyment in picking on people; somewhat illustrating his dark & sarcastic sense of humor. above all, however, he seem to be the most alive on the battlefield, he often is seen smiling while in combat, hinting a sadistic side which compliments his thrill for blood & he tends to toy with opponents that are weaker than himself before finishing them off remorselessly. despite his antisocial traits stemming from his undiagnosed antisocial personality disorder, nicolas isn't without heart. he's been shown to care for those close to him & furthering his somewhat complicated personality, he isn't the type to hold grudges against others. trigger warning for mentions & references of child abuse & organized abuse & parental abandonment, suicidality & mental health issues.

What I love about Alex so much is that I just love seeing her. We get to see her unfold and become the person she really is while she’s going through recovery from the TB drugs. She was so young when she was given those awful false promises by Barry so even though she still ain’t in the best of places I’m just happy she’s been experiencing the little things in life and I want her to be reunited with her brother so bad, it would do her so much good. I really want Alex to flourish cause she honestly deserves it.
