new whump recommendation!!

you all should check out “half bad: the bastard son & the devil himself” on Netflix! with only one season comprised of eight episodes, this show is intense and incredibly whumpy!

synopsis: in a fantasy world where witches and magic powers are real, we follow a teenager named Nathan Byrne, who rides the line between the oppressive Fairborn Witches and the rebellious Blood Witches. Nathan’s mother is a Fairborn who died via alleged suicide, and his father is a dangerous and infamous Blood serial killer, of whom Nathan is prophesied to kill. in this world, witches get their powers when they turn 17 by drinking the blood of a relative - and because Nathan has barely any living family left, he has merely a week to find Byrne blood before he dies (!!). Nathan spends the season being hunted by both witch races alongside new friends/lovers Annalise and Gabriel, experiencing physical pain, torture, and emotional anguish in nearly every episode.

unfortunately this show was cancelled after one season, but I think it’s still really stellar and well-written! besides being wonderfully whumpy, it has some great representation of POC and queer characters (and polyamorous rep👀) and tells an interesting and morally complex story.

anyway! if you haven’t seen and are looking for new whump, this show is short and jam-packed with content! + I’m not one to make whump lists, but I binged this whole show in a day and really enjoyed it, so if anybody wants a list lemme know and I can get started on it!

Oh gosh hi, yes I am still kinda in awe that I get to play Mendel. This show lives in my head rent free and means so much to me, but I forget other people might be down to get excited with me!

Ours is a university theatre society production, so we're working all with lovely volunteers and no budget. We did costume check last week tho, and we all look so good anyway! (Might share my looks here when they're altered, cause they're pretty good, if I do say so myself.)

The band is coming together, and performing with them is so magical! It's especially interesting for me because we haven't had a chance to practice with all our wind people yet, and I am realizing how much I rely on those riffs to tell me where I am.

We're performing on Valentine's day (and the day after (Rights are expensive)) which is immaculate, but also kinda rude of us I think ? Cause people are definitely gonna come thinking it's just gonna be cute. (Seriously, even other (young) queer people I talk to about the show often look at me with no recognition when I say it's a show prominently featuring gay men, in the '80s, people don't know their history.)

Our Trina is the only cishet person in the entire cast and crew, so it's all very cozy in that queer theatre kid "we skipped the first five steps of friendship" kinda way. I love my tightknit family. We waste so much time chatting, it's my favourite kind of issue.

Ummmm I donno, I get to do a competent round off in "Everyone Hates Their Parents" and then have Jason stare at me in awe, so that's fun?

So... There's a pretty major city about a 2 hour drive away from where I live and it turns out there's a big National Battle tournament happening in a few days or so, and pretty much any union members are allowed to participate, even Digimon that don't have partners.

I bring this up because Shoutmon found out and has been BEGGING me to let him go non stop and just... I can't say no. I'll have to call work and see if I can get a few days off for it but I'll try my best to make it happen for you bud.
