rjk & 42 + 48 + 52 for otp asks? :)
Thank you so much for the ask! From the OTP (or OT3) ask game! All answers under the #ask game tag in my tumblr. Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
What's their favorite type of weather to enjoy together? (getting snowed in together, watching thunderstorms, etc.)
They all like different ones.
Jamie is partial to sunny, warm weather, preferably on holiday on a beach somewhere. Because having both his people with him in that weather means they can all relax and laze about in the sun. There are slow kisses, lazy sex, and afternoon naps. PR emergencies and football both are forgotten. For a few days at least.
Keeley likes crisp autumn weather. She likes to cozy up inside with tea and a movie and curl up right in between Roy and Jamie, head on one lap, feet on the other.
Roy likes the snow and bitter cold. Because then he has an excuse to get clingy and cuddly. Not that he needs one. But it doesn’t hurt.
Who's the better driver?
(I’ll let them answer)
Roy: “me”
Jamie: “Oi! I can drive my car just fine. Just because I can’t see everything in your massive tank of a vehicle doesn’t mean I’m a bad driver. In fact, I’m a morally better driver. Do you know how much petrol that thing takes? Jesus, Roy.”
Keeley: “I’m an excellent driver, but I keep that to myself, because truthfully, I like being a passenger princess.”
Describe their weekend getaway?
They go off to a cottage in the country and agree to turn all their devices off. Roy’s sister, Rebecca, and Georgie have the landline number for emergencies, but otherwise, it’s a no phone/no computer weekend. They stock up on groceries so they don’t have to leave (Roy does most of the cooking), and they just enjoy one another. They talk, watch movies, and just relax. And oh yeah, have lots and lots of sex :P.

Enhancing On-Time Performance: Key Strategies for NEMT Businesses
Any firm must measure on-time performance (OTP), but the non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) sector places a premium on OTP. Drivers are counted on by passengers and clients to show up on time so that they may make it to their appointments on time.
Because there is so much at stake, timeliness is essential. A clinic or doctor's office late arrival could result in more than just lost time. Their quality of life may be greatly impacted if they miss an appointment or procedure due to it.
Strict scheduling, prompt dispatching, and advance notification of cancellations are essential components of the NEMT sector. How can service providers further enhance their punctuality?
Let's look at seven practical techniques to boost on-time performance, which can streamline your business processes and guarantee that all of your drivers arrive at their destinations on time.
Tumblr media
Monitor Key Metrics and Data
Monitoring key metrics will ensure that your business operations are on track.  Here below have an overview of the following:
The number of passengers transported by a certain driver, team, or fleet within a certain period
in a certain area or period, the number of drivers dispatched
The number of vehicles available each day
The most popular routes that passengers use
The number of canceled trips per driver, passenger, or route
Areas with the most cancellations or delays
you can identify areas where you can address on-time performance issues, by tracking these key metrics,. You can make changes in dispatching and scheduling trips if needed or allocate additional resources to maximize efficiency.
Use NEMT Software with Apps for Drivers and Passengers
To increase your on-time performance, it is essential that you use the right transport management software. To increase productivity across the board for your NEMT firm, it must monitor and analyse all important KPIs.
Limited functions are available with some software alternatives, such as billing without dispatching or vice versa. The best software for non-emergency medical transportation should offer all the features you require, including fleet administration, passenger tracking, and payroll. QRyde is an exemplary transport management software that excels in ensuring punctuality for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of such software in the industry. With its advanced features and functionalities, QRyde effectively manages and coordinates transportation services, guaranteeing on-time performance for NEMT operations.
At every stage of the voyage, QRyde features track information about the vehicle, the driver, and the passengers. Routes, appointments, and cancellations are all included in this. Along with managing driver scheduling and payroll, it also handles vehicle maintenance and billing.
Your drivers' on-time performance rates can increase by 25% with QRyde. Without expanding your fleet of vehicles, you can also increase the number of trips that are successfully completed. With the help of our NEMT software, you can use your cars to their fullest potential and respond quickly to any changes (such as traffic conditions, cancellations or no-shows, will calls, etc.).
Maintain a Buffer Period Between Scheduled Trips
Your fleet schedule can perform much better when it includes a buffer time, increasing on-time performance. The idea behind this is to provide some flexibility in the event of sporadic delays. A buffer can stop delays from cascading, allowing for a more effective use of resources.
Although the idea of a buffer time is widely accepted, there is still disagreement over how it should be put into practise. Depending on the fleet and the specific situation, the best strategy for one organisation can not be the best strategy for another. Nevertheless, a grace period will allow drivers to deal with their vehicles, the traffic, and the weather and still make it to their next destination on time.
QRyde maintains a buffer period between scheduled trips by using a combination of factors, including the distance between the pick-up and drop-off locations, the estimated travel time, and the availability of drivers.
Account for What You Can’t Control
Customers rely on a transport company's dependability, hence their rate of on-time performance is important. However, there are many variables, such as weather and traffic, that drivers, dispatchers, and even business owners cannot control. You may guarantee that your business operations continue to go smoothly and according to plan by keeping contingencies for these incidents.
Weather can have a variety of effects on transportation, making it challenging for drivers to make it to appointments on time. These effects include car damage, environmental delays brought on by roadblocks, and more. Heavy delays are also brought on by traffic, particularly in crowded cities where accidents and congestion are frequent occurrences.
There are numerous ways NEMT firms can explain these occurrences. Keeping a close eye on weather patterns and traffic patterns might help dispatchers prepare in advance and change schedules as necessary. When numerous delays are anticipated, a greater buffer period can also be used.
Regularly Maintain Your Fleet
In the transportation industry, keeping your cars in top condition is essential. Maintaining your cars in top shape provides optimal and effective operations, allowing you to consistently offer dependable service to your customers.
Your ability to arrive on time is also impacted by proper car and fleet maintenance. Maintaining your fleet on a regular basis is also necessary to comply with industry regulations. Maintaining a high level of client satisfaction can be made possible by maintaining well-maintained cars, which will reduce delays and interruptions to your service.
No matter how many journeys your complete fleet makes, a proper preventative maintenance routine will guarantee that they stay in good condition. Schedule and system inspections for each vehicle can be automated using QRyde fleet management services. In order for your mechanics to maintain your vehicles as fast and properly as possible, you may also provide them with all pertinent information.
Choose a Software that Addresses On-time Performance
Being punctual is a desirable trait that customers admire in the NEMT sector. After all, they rely on transport services to get them to vital medical appointments and examinations since their lives and health depend on it.
To automate processes for optimal efficiency, NEMT business owners and service providers must select top-notch management software.

Apritello Express Evidences, part 1
Greetings, Apritello enthusiasts and attention! Here comes a loong post is written by totally nerd. You've been warned. Here we go.
The thing is that Apritello is a double-edged sword. The series shows us established friendship of these two, give us a lot of content with them. We can see development of relationship through interaction between the characters, their reaction about the situations they are put in. We can sense their synergy and bound through the show.
Donnie and April have incredible chemistry, and both options, brotp and otp seems fine to me.
But let me tell you why I ship them.
Apritello is the kind of pairings, which consists of small details, hints, that's hidden, but if you're sharp and attentive one, you will notice that. Apritello has a strong foundation: the best friends trope.
And from the very beginning, it works as planned.
When I start watching show, I could say that April and Donnie are best friends. It is worth noting that April is like an older sister to the other brothers, more of a sisterly figure than a friend, but with Donnie she behaves somewhat differently, namely, as best friend. Obviously, she sets him apart from his brothers, although girl tries to pay attention to all of them equally. And Donnie behaves as well.
Dee's battle shell designs for April needs as well as his. His shell transform into comfy spot for taking ride for April. Special and only for her. Because his bros are not supposed to use it (at least, he carries no one on his back), Donnie carries them by his techno-bó or his limbs.
This tiny detail shows his special treatment to her. April is a very, very special occasion to D. Don does care about her comfort, he accept the way she is. Donatello does not try to prevent her from participating in their affairs because he respects her decisions and is pleased that April can be shoulder to shoulder with him.
D is glad to be at her service.
Tumblr media
Yeah, Dee's still playing cool, he has image to perform as tough and coolheaded guy. So Don doesn't show his intentions, interest and feeling to other people (he's tryin', but fails). Because his actions matter. They are always small, hidden, but meaningful.
April, in return, trusts Dee and depends on his tech, even knowing what his inventions are the opposite of success (usually).
Go on. Look at Donnie's facial expressions and body language when April is near.
Tumblr media
Donnie seems more relaxed when she's around, happier. His emotional response is always different from his brothers ones.
Oh, and look, he wanted to be first to give her a high three.
Tumblr media
They worry about each other. Look at Don. He does worry about her way more than his brothers. Yeah, they all want to protect her, but Donnie is more expressive.
Tumblr media
Mayham has no particular sympathy for the brothers: he is afraid of Raph and behaves aggressively, he is indifferent to Leo and Mikey. Mayham immediately takes a liking to April. And then the details come back: he let Donnie touch his neck. The most vulnerable place for any living creation, for a second. Let him to study an important vial without any hesitation. Mayham depends on April trust for Donnie. When everything goes wrong for Don, the little doggie comes to his rescue, just as April would have done. Is the hint transparent enough?
Tumblr media
We can see links with "A mystic library", wherе Donnie begins to look for solutions to save April's pet. Yes, this may seem like his next leap, "sit down, I'm smart, and now I'll solve all the problems, watch and learn," but Don says one phrase that opens up the veil of the second plan, what happens behind the scenes. "My illiteral colleagues and I was conducting a mustic research, with a life of the beloved pet, hanging in a bounce".
Strange wording, Donatello. Beloved pet? Not yours, as we can see. I can say, that everything in this sentence is true, but Donnie and Mayham has something more.
Continue. Next episode "Origami tsunami". Interactions are kept to a minimum, as April herself appears for a maximum of 5 minutes in the series itself. But devil is always in the details, dear friends.
When April was attacked and hung up, the only one who excitedly called out to her was Donny. Raph is furious that the thieves have escaped, Leo is frustrated that their plan has failed, and Mikey is worried about the salami.
Yeah, we didn't see his worries about her when she fell, because Donnie is on the mission and must be coolheaded turtle, and second, he's calm because now April life is safe and sound, out of the danger.
Dear passangers, Apritello Express arrives to the next station - episode "War and Pizza".
Bare facts:
1. April has Donnie's number on an emergency call.
2. "Anything for you"
3. Donnie is the reason why Alberto knows April's name.
No one calles April by her name (except for Donnie, while phone call, but Alberto wasn't nearby) it was "Captain O'Neil" by her chief, her badge seems blank. And yeah, you can say, that's just economy of budget, but I assure you: in the first episode we were shown the name of the delivery guy. The animators were not lazy bones and wrore "Stewart" on his badge. So if something isn't there, then it either shouldn't be there, or it really isn't, that's how this show works.
So, the reason explained in the episode. When Al has short circuit, parts of its new code flashed through its mind.
Tumblr media
Info about April was in its memory, in its code. Alberto was a lame animatronic, and it seems somewhat outdated. I do really doubt about Alberto is being something smartass machine with complicated AI like Freddy's Pizza's ones. Quite questionable. Donatello fix Al's brain and wrote code, synchronize with his remote control. He put information about Cap O'Neil into animatronic's head. All this pictures are kind of massage: "You was created for birthday celebrations. You are machine, and there concepts of "life" and "birth". Do great party for this birthday kid and April won't be like this". Or, something like that.
So Alberto did - do a memorable party. And he do what his creator programmed him to do, but in his way.
4. In other words, Alberto was a tool to impress April. Don flaunts himself in front of her, stating how he did the upgrade while doing the upgrade, even though April is fully aware of his tech wizard. And his abilities supposed to help Cap O'Neil to finish the birthday party, so she will stay at her job, not fired. All thanks to Donnie and his upgrade Alberto. (Or not)
By the way, Donnie was the last to leave April in ruined "Alberto's". And it's not an isolated case, it is a pattern.
5. They understand each other without words.
First, Donny came at her at the speed of light. Second, she hadn't even finished speaking before Dee was taking Al apart. Third, their chaotic, well-coordinated work? Donnie was a distraction (although he wanted to just take a break from the battle or let Alberto's guard down, while April just knocked him out). Donnie and April are great team, and sometimes the DonniexApril team is much more precise, coordinated, and interdependent than the DonniexBrothers one.
D&A feel each other and anticipate each other's actions, their skills complement each other, creating an incredible synergy of their interaction. They act as a whole, while it's not always possible with his brothers, even though they're family and know each other the way more Donnie know April. And Dee hasn't trained with cap O'Neil.
Donatello didn't show his crush for April. No puppy, loving eyes, no lovey-dovey speeches, no planning schemes (at least, the audience don't see one) . He just want her attention, but stays cool and hidden. D is already her BFF, but still.
The same thing is claimed in 5B episode - Mascot Melee. Donnie has no problems with interaction with idol of his childhood - Atomic Lass. She'd put Leo in a stupor, but Donnie? He playfully challenges her to a dance duel. Yes, he adores this character, who may have become his measure of the attractiveness of others to Donatello, determined his type. But still, he's playing all cool and confident guy, he's really smooth with girls, so you will never see a puppy loving eyes from him. Only two things can betray him at this point: his voice and his body language. Remember, how's soft his voice became for Atomic Lass? Now I want you to remember the scene before, in turtle tank, when April sent guys a meme.
D is the first to respond to the message, despite the fact that Mikey is sitting closest to the screen. And the responding is a little too emotional for this situation, don't you think?
And this face of his. And he comments it. He likes her sense of humour.
Tumblr media
The only difference between April and Atomic Lass is that the first one is a real girl who is a friend of their family, practically a member of it; and the other one is just a fictional character. It is easier to say about love for a fictional character, because it brings less problems for a teenager, especially when he is living with three brothers and a father who likes to tease as well. Donatello needs to be careful and outline the area of emotions he could show, so that he does not get hurt.
Now, dear passangers, we are returning to the previous episode, shall we?
Donnie presents to his brothers his precious Turtle tank, but she's gone, and it's really necessary to find out, who has taken her. And the first person to suspect is April.
Something is odd, don't you think? Yeah, Raphael has taken tyre for their "Midnight special", Leo claimed that Donnie's stuff is common, but they are D's beothers. It's natural for family to borrow(stole) stuff of each other. But this trend was not observed in April. She would never steal anything from Donnie, much less steal anything from him.
Actually, there is a good, logical and solid explanation here. April was number 1 in Donatello' suspect list, because he simply told her about Turtle tank. His brothers didn't know he were working at Moon buggy, except Mikey (Orange helps Dee get the vehicle from Repomantis), but they didn't know what exactly Donnie was working for. They didn't know he build the Turtle tank, he kept it a secret, to surprise his brothers. But April knew.
- Alright you! Where's our turtle tank?
- Hi, DONNIE. You have 9 seconds to say, why are you just broke my door.
- Someone's stole Donnie's turtle tank.
- Haha-ow, I see. As your best friend, you naturally suspect me.
- She gets it!
- Oh-ho, don't give me that! You're the only one could taken it!
The only one, because she knew about it.
As Splints said in this episode - "April is not a snitch"
Donatello does trust April and share with her both, sorrows and joys. But we are not shown this directly. We do not see the action itself, we do not see their calls and conversations on the phone late at night, we only see the consequence. We have no choice and take it as a given.
And the way she cooled him down? Fast, efficient, and Donnie seems to used to it. Moreover, she slapped everyone, but still, she throw Don out of window the last. However, why such a large time delay between him, being slapped and him, was throwing out of the window?
And my favourite scene. It was obvious that Donnie had taken the hardest hit (judging by his scream and the way he was putting his knuckles back in place). Don then claims that their inner circle is secure, Mikey tries to make amends for everyone, and April agrees, blowing them a kiss and closing the window. Cute and mean, isn't it? (You're cute! but mean! why do I always go for your type?! - ep. War and Pizza)
Tumblr media
Nota bene: Donnie wouldn't apologize to April. Tough, not caring badass boy image, remember? Even to best friends. It's hard to him to express his feelings by using words, he cannot do it in proper way. But he has Mikey, who is so alike inner him. Michelangelo apologizes not only for himself, but for D mostly, because D starts suspected April.
Let's continue: the episode 8B: Hypno Part Deux
• Donnie put "Donnie's blocker" at April's phone to protect her.
It's common thing that your friend install some programs or apps on your device. But you will always ask your friend to do such a favour, and you will always know about what, when and where were installed on your phone.
And April didn't know Donnie had done something with her phone. It was a real surprise for her, to see blocker with "Donnie says no-no-no".
Tumblr media
And you know, the interface of his app. The way he tell this current phrase. Donnie could put a huge banner "THE APP YOU WANT DOWNLOAD TO IS A REAL PIECE OF GARBAGE", as usual antiviruses do. But no, voice interface. It makes the app more personal and thoughtful. Because when Don made gifts for his brother, the program was voiced by a computer-generated female voice. Yes, the tank's interface is voiced by Donatello himself, but his voice sounds more like Google than the real Don. And, we talking about HIS BABEY, for a second. Bit still, the point remains.
• Also, Dale.
Dale is nerdy boy in purple, wow, how convenient for making a parallel with certain purple turtle.
But thing is, April doesn't like Dale. He's clingy, remora guy, who has a little obsession with April, even he's not harmful, still, such behaviour freaks girls (and not them only) out. Her classmate is usually tell her what April O'Neil is "his favourite person" and he loves her. There is little that is attractive about this behavior.
So, there is nothing new and unpredictable here that Dale was rejected. Because April didn't, doesn't and won't like him because of his lame personality and strange behaviour. Our girl in yellow do right thing: she clearly sets personal boundaries and does not allow any dubious personalities to invade them. So that's the reason she refuses to go on a date with him at the end. He's weird, obsessed, and she doesn't like him.
Donatello, as far as I concerned from different versions of TMNT, was always a little obsessive with some things. And, you know, putting a blocker inside your best friend's phone seems a little weird, because it's, in simple words, violation of privacy and personal space. And there are people who may regard this as stalking or sorta.
Yeah, for the most part, he gets away with it, not only because April's focus is in a different area, but also because their bond is stronger than April's with anyone else at school.
She has known him for years. Donnie is her best friend. I can't say that it's fine to her when Dee violates her personal space - her phone, but April can accept Donatello's personality in general.
And he does really have good intentions. Donnie installed this blocker, developed by himself only for one reason: to protect personal space April from fishy apps from nowhere, from being hacked and etc. Don knew her too well, how much she depends on stupid apps that will distract her. He also knew well, that he can't be with her 24/7 to fix problems with April's phone, so Dee put a part of himself to prevent any harm in the future.
And again, "Donnie's gifts"'s vibes. Donatello genuinely cared about April, because he wrote, coded, developed, designed, and dubbed it, turned on the database, and installed it all on April's phone. 'cause, you know, writing programs in general is a bit of a hassle, but writing an antivirus is much more difficult, because viruses are changing, and questionable applications are finding ways to bypass. Do you feel how much effort Dee put in for her?
But Donatello didn't mean to fix April, as he tried to do with his brothers. Purple turtle accepts this girl the way she is, and tries his best to play smoothly with April, by adjusting, not being passive aggressive jerk. It's his outstanding way to show his caring nature, soft side.
Remember, small but meaningful actions.
Maybe, Donnie also can foresee that April may be forced to download some suspicious program, but still, it work: he managed to prevent April being hypnotized, even if couldn't be physically with April at the this moment - Dee was working for Repo Mantis, building dog's paradise for Todd. That's why, by the way, Leo and Raph were dragged into this whole situation. Mayham would teleported literally anyone to help his hostess. Donnie just wasn't at the Lair at the moment.
Tumblr media
And on this note, we'll take a break for now. Stay tuned, expect parsing of the series, there's a lot to discuss.

Close to you (1/7)
Hi everyone! Happy SeiUsa Week 2021! Please enjoy this seven-chapter installment in celebration of the ultimate OTP!
~~~
Everyone walks on To meet just one person someday
---
“Boo! You suck!”
Seiya ducked to the side to avoid an oncoming empty beer bottle flying his way, shattering as it hit the stage floor. He scowled as he grabbed the microphone with the other hand still on his guitar neck.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“Get off the stage!” Another bottle started flying, this time in between him and the second guitar player, Yaten.
The bar owner soon sprinted toward the musicians and on the stage, trying to avoid various other objects projecting through the air in the meantime.
“Guys, you got any other songs to play?”
Taiki, who was standing in the back at a keyboard, walked up to join the conversation. “What other songs? This is all we know.” He explained while kicking off a half-eaten chicken wing that landed on his shoe.
“You play the same set every night. They want something fresh.”
“Well, maybe you need to get more patrons instead of the same ones every night,” Yaten growled with a lime green twitchy eye. “It’s not our fault your regulars live here.”
“Listen,” the owner paused to grimace in figurative pain as he felt something wet hit his back. “You need to mix it up.”
“We can’t,” Seiya replied firmly. “We need to play these songs.”
“Then pack it up. The show’s over.”
Yaten released his guitar in order to gesture to drive his point across, letting it hang on his neck. “No! You need to let us play!”
“Not a chance, Napoleon. You’ll drive away my tenants!” The owner glared.
That was it—and not that it usually took very much anyway—Yaten was over the edge. He lifted the strap over his head and tossed his instrument to Taiki before tackling the owner to the stage floor with his standard flying squirrel technique.
“Yaten, what the fuck?!” Seiya removed his guitar and went to work trying to pry his bandmate from atop the owner, or at least he tried; Yaten had the grip strength of a coconut crab despite being the smallest of the three of them.
But that was all the patrons needed as a reason to get in on the action. They stormed the stage with their rage and beer bottles ready, even turning on one another and the instruments. Some who didn’t choose violence for a Tuesday night contacted authorities on their crystal cell phones as they made their exit; the other portion used them to record the melee from their tables.
Seiya soon felt the weight of three men come at him at all sides; his only instinct to protect his head before the four-person clump of testosterone toppled two feet down and off the stage. Immediately, he felt a pain shoot from his knee all the way up to his hip as something heavy and drunk landed on his leg. Seiya wriggled and scooted as much as possible to free himself, but since his body was the one that absorbed most of the impact, the attacking men had the advantage to quickly begin their beatdown.
He managed to curl up in the fetal position as feet and fists made contact with every part of his exposed body. But then, allowing himself to only feel like a failure for a few seconds, he made a quick decision and reached within his jacket for his headset.
“Fighter Star Power, Make Up!”
As the transformation alone knocked the three men on their backs, their world was forever rocked when they looked upon a leather-clad woman standing in place of the male musician once the music and sparkles had faded.
“He’s a guardian?!” One yelled, completely stupefied.
Sailor Star Fighter cocked an eyebrow as she smirked, her Star Yell ready in hand.
“Remind me again: what do you think of my songs?”
By then, three police officers had come through the entrance. Their hands floated above their holstered guns on their hips as they were visibly surprised and uneasy.
“Guardian! Put your weapon down!”
“It’s the cops! Run!” A voice shouted. The chaos simply transformed from scuffle to stampede as people began to book it for any exit they could find.
The authorities were soon knocked down from the rush, however one was able to take out her radio and plead into it, “Ten-seventy-five! We need guardians! Get us guardians!” until it was kicked out of her hand from an escaping patron.
Taiki and Yaten came up behind Star Fighter—donning a few scratches, cuts, and tousled hair—all the while still moving pretty well.
“Seiya, you dumbfuck, why’d you transform?” Yaten chastised.
“I’m the dumbfuck?” Fighter gave her crazy eyes. “They were going to kill me!” For a split second, she forgot about her leg and put weight on it while yelling back. However, the appendage was quick to remind her that something was wrong. She winced and seethed in a breath as she fell on Taiki for support.
“Let’s get out of here,” Taiki suggested calmly as he wrapped Fighter’s arm around his neck. Yaten followed suit on the other side.
They only had to contend with navigating through a few scattered stragglers before the three made their way toward the emergency exit by the stage. Taiki kicked the door open only to be met with two obstacles standing in their way, both clad in Milky Way guardian uniforms. One was in a dark blue and yellow color combination with short blonde hair, the other in dark blue and teal with medium-length teal hair.
“Not so fast.”
---
Seiya sighed as he dropped his head on the headrest in the backseat of the police car. The authorities were escorting him from a hospital where his wounds were attended to, and he was now alone. Or rather, separated from Taiki and Yaten. His only company was the two guardians from the bar—whom he was squished in between—and a uniformed officer at the wheel.
He cleared his throat to get attention from anyone. “What did you do with my friends?”
“They’re at a detention center.” The blonde guardian answered, void of emotion, keeping her focus out the window.
“A detention center? Why?”
“Because they’re here illegally. You all are. You should be there, too.”
Fuck, that’s not good. That’s not good at all… But it still didn’t explain… “So where are you taking me then?”
“The queen would like an audience with you.” The teal-headed one answered while busy on her crystal smartphone, having removed a glove for her screen to sense the natural heat of her thumb. A half-filled plastic grocery bag also sat on her lap.
“The queen?” Seiya tried to use his hands to emphasize his confusion, however, his handcuffs clanked in protest. “What does she want with me?”
“It doesn’t matter what she wants—she calls, you come.” The blonde turned her head to look at him with stern blue eyes.
He knew there was no use prying anymore. The blonde had already knocked him around a few times before getting to the hospital, so he knew he risked further physical punishment if he did so. Any other day he would find the pain worth it if it meant annoying her, but his body was already unbearably sore in places he didn’t realize he had.
Meeting with the queen also had him a bit concerned for his well-being. He figured it had something to do with being a guardian, but what exactly does she plan to do with him and that information? He had heard she was a kind and just ruler, albeit young, but from his years of intergalactic travel before ending up in Crystal Tokyo, it could very well be propaganda.
He guessed he was about to find out.
Once the car made it to the bridge that led to the palace, one needed two hands to count all the checkpoints. The palace seemed to be built specifically to reflect the moonlight, producing a daytime-like glow once they were on royal grounds. However, the car parked in front of an inconspicuous building behind a row of trees a couple of minutes shy of the actual palace, and then the blonde dragged Seiya out of the vehicle by his handcuff chains, causing his shiny black cane to drop on the ground. Diagnosed with a temporary disability from his hurt leg, the doctors issued the walking aid to help with his mobility for the next couple of weeks, but the blonde didn't care.
“Haruka, be gentle.” The teal-headed guardian chided.
“Why?”
“You know how handcuffs can hurt if you’re too rough.”
“And you will know, too… once we’re done tonight.”
Seiya raised an eyebrow, wondering if they knew their whispering wasn’t really whispering; he even caught the driver looking back with a nosy eye. Feeling a sense of dread of being transported to a second location, he limped along slowly, following the driver inside the building while trailed by the guardians.
He was led to a room that was comfortably simple and aesthetically feminine—its motif included ribbons, swirls, and florals in a combination of white and pink colors. And a small white round table sat in the middle of the space with four plush boudoir chairs surrounding it. Seiya even picked up on the scent of stargazer lilies before he noticed them sitting on a side table by the door.
But apparently, there was no time to take in his surroundings as he felt a shove on his back, forcing him to keep his balance with his bad leg. He turned around to glare at the blonde guardian.
“Hurry up!” She pointed inside the room with irritation emanating from her whole body. “The queen is on her way!”
Seiya grumbled and hobbled over to take his place in a chair, releasing a tired sigh. All he wanted was to get this over with and back to his mission. He hated how his only hope rested within the hands of the queen; it made him feel helpless and idle.
It wasn’t much later when he heard the front door of the building open, followed by both guardians bowing on the other side of the threshold at an unseen presence. Assuming the queen herself had arrived, Seiya pulled himself to his feet with the aid of his cane and the table.
"Uranus! Neptune!"
“Neo-Queen Serenity.”
If you would like to follow this story, I will be updating the rest of the chapters under the tag: hana-bean close to you and other iterations of the spacing. I love you all!
2020 fanfic review meme!
Thanks to @livenudebigfoot for tagging me and providing me with a legitimate excuse to reflect self-indulgently on my special interest: writing obsessive amounts of fic for Michael Emerson vehicles. What fic did I disgorge from my brain maw this year? This was the year I started writing for Person of Interest, the fandom that changed my life! I found a fannish community on the Subway discord and joined a whole bunch of exchanges, which I’d never done before.
In February for chocolate_box, I wrote 7 stories:
The Life of the World to Come (Person of Interest, Reese/Finch): Canon compliant fix it in which Reese wakes up in a lakeside cabin about 6 weeks after he died. Unspecified magical bargains were involved.
Arctic Flower (POI, Grace/Jessica): An AU in which Jessica rushes to assist Grace when a cyclist knocks her down in the park, and their friendship enables her to leave Peter before it’s too late.
A Bird of Foreign Tongue (POI, Reese/Finch): A sequel to Arctic Flower in which Harold finds still-in-the-CIA Reese and offers him an escape route.
Objet d’Art (POI, Finch/Grace): During a coffee date early in their pre-canon relationship, Harold has a guilty conscience about all the secrets he’s hiding from Grace.
Kintsugi (POI, Finch/Grace): The longer sequel to Objet D’art. Grace gets sick. She doesn’t have health insurance. Harold panics and decides to take care of her himself.
Incentives (POI, Reese/Fusco): John’s in the trunk.
Fixer-Upper (POI, Reese/Zoe Morgan): In every fandom, I write gender AUs. This one is Zoe Morgan taking always-a-girl!Reese under her wing.
Then in the spring, I wrote one story for the Hurt/Comfort Exchange and two for Exchange of Interest:
Line of Duty (POI, Reese/Fusco) 14k about Fusco making really self destructive life choices thanks to low self worth and unresolved trauma, while Reese is forced to stand back and wring his hands. And then, you know, exact a lot of vengeance. Harold has soup.
Number Every One (POI, Reese/Nathan): AU in which Nathan saves Jessica, and Reese comes asking questions.
Eden (POI, Reese/Jessica): A perfect, ordinary moment in John’s relationship with the one person who connects him to the world.
And then I wrote some stories for @livenudebigfoot because I enjoy making her happy.
An Indulgence (POI, Finch/Fusco): Fusco is having an emergency and Finch is there for him. My first foray into ABO and literally all they do is hug; is this my brand?
Bunnymoon (Lost, Ben Linus/John Locke): I acquired this whole new fandom/OTP without meaning to, and then I wrote 8000 words of animal shelter AU for it.
Shipoween was next, and I was very proud of the two stories I wrote because both of them are short and this is hard when you exhale novel-length plot outlines instead of carbon dioxide. Also they are both creepy and kinda experimental, like back in my Buffy days. It was also my first time pinch hitting for an exchange and I got a nice little buzz off pulling that off with one day to deadline.
a lucid dream (Lost, Ben Linus/John Locke): Ben is having a very bad dream, and it’s all his own fault.
One In the Eye (POI, Finch/Fusco): Harold’s a monster. Fusco’s a cryptid.
This was my first year doing a Big Bang exchange and the story I wrote for it is, in my own opinion, the best thing I have ever written.
Kingfishers (POI, Reese/Finch/Grace): An AU in which Harold didn’t introduce himself to Grace that day in the park. Years later, after Harold starts working with John, they receive her number.
I wrote a popular Star Trek fic in 2019 and then went more than a year and a half without updating, two chapters before the end. I’m sorry, I’m a monster. Now there’s only one chapter left before the end. I’m shooting to get it finished by the end of January. I’m sorry I suck so much.
K’diwa: A Steamy Novel of Interspecies Romance (Star Trek AOS, Kirk/Spock) And then, after a swift crash course in participating in fics and exchanges, I took on managing the POI Advent 2020 Calendar. I needed to write a five-parter in order to plug holes in the posting schedule, and a Muppet crossover was born.
A Muppet Christmas Carol, Starring Harold Finch (Person of Interest, Muppets)
Takeaways from reflecting on your kick-ass writing, or kick-ass lack of writing, during a year more focused on survival than perhaps any other:
I’ll be 39 next month. I’ve been writing seriously since I was 15. I was a very good writer for a 15 year old, for a 19 year old, but I could never have dreamed of writing the way I do now. No amount of hard work, practice, reading, conferring with other writers, editing manuscripts, or thinking about craft could have made me the kind of writer it’s possible for me to be in my late 30s. Youthful geniuses are a myth. I’m really grateful my agent couldn’t sell my novel 10 years ago--when I finish the next one I will get to introduce myself to the world as the writer I am now.
Most surprising fic you wrote this year:
Oh, definitely Bunnymoon. I had no idea I would be writing fic for Lost at all, much less that I would be writing a mundane AU with comedy and my first E rated scene in years. It is entirely the fault of bigfoot, who infected me with the fandom in general and the animal shelter concept in specific.
How you’ve grown as a writer this year:
I’ve learned a lot about what not to say--when to trust the reader--and I have benefited hugely from thinking hard about formal structure. Every idea used to turn into a novel whether I wanted to or not, but revisiting high school English lessons about short story structure vs 3 act structure has changed my whole game.
What’s coming in 2021:
I would really like to write one more story in my Harold & Grace series, another story in the Jessica Lives AU, and I’ll def. sign up for HCEX and Shipoween. But also, this year I am writing a novel.  Tagging @theimprobable1, @liz-squids, @argylepiratewd, @sidewaystime
OTP Questions
I was tagged by @risenlucifer
Okay disclaimer. I ship Alex with everyone, and I mean everyone. But for this I’mma just do the most common ship for me when I rp with peeps which is typically Alex x Jacob.
DISAGREEMENTS
who is more likely to raise their voice? Depends on how bad the argument gets. Alex physically can’t but sometimes, when she’s being incredibly stubborn. Jacob will get a sterner tone that seems to give the illusion of it being raised.
who threatens to leave but never actually does? Neither of them. They’re not the types to make light of threats such as this.
who actually keeps their word and leaves? Alex. If her words aren’t taken seriously because “I can have you back here at any time” she’s gone.
who trashes the house? Jacob if he’s having a PTSD episode, but usually neither.
do either of them get physical? Once again only if Jacob is having a PTSD episode and, even then, Alex knows when to get out of the area if he’s that bad.
how often do they argue/disagree? Quite a bit, usually about Project stuff. With domestic stuff not a lot.
who is the first to apologize? They’re both stubborn but Alex is usually first to apologize in a mess from her own mental issues.
The rest is under the cut, because a.) it’s long and b.) one section of it is 18+!
SEX (18+ y’all, these questions are pretty spicy)
who is on top? Jacob 100% Alex only gets dominance in foreplay (even then it’s rare)
who is on the bottom? Alex, she’s just more submissive
who has the strangest desires? They both kinda even out here. Usually Alex is the one to voice her desires.
who’s dominant in bed? Jacob. Just. Jacob
is head ever in the equation? Yes very much, usually Alex likes to give Jacob head.
if so, who is better at performing it? Both are rather good, Alex is just the giver most of the time.
ever had sex in public? Not really public, but definitely out in the woods/on the mountain
who moans the most? Both are rather quiet people, but usually Alex
who leaves the most marks? Jacob, he’s a biter
who is the more experienced of the two? Alex. She doesn’t talk about her previous sex life a lot but her suggestions make it obvious.
do they ‘fuck’ or ‘make love’? Usually Fuck, it helps to relieve stress after a long day, but it usually turns to making love half way through.
rough or soft? Rough. No soft setting unless Alex gets to take the lead.
how long do they usually last? They can last a while. It depends on when they’re having sex. If it’s at the end of the day they usually don’t go for long as they need sleep. If it’s in the middle or the start of the day they like to just mess around with foreplay for an hour at least.
is protection used? Yes. Alex takes day after pills as birth control is a little harder to find.
does it ever get boring? To them it’s never boring.
where is the strangest place they’d have sex? Probably in the woods near a wolf beacon. Alex had come to shut it down and Jacob caught her, decided to ‘punish’ her.
FAMILY
do they plan on having children/or have children? Not with how the world is and not with their mental states.
if so, how many children do they want/have? They would only want one if they ever had any.
AFFECTION
who likes to cuddle? Both, oddly enough usually Jacob when they’re laying down for the night.
who gets naughty in the most inappropriate of places? Jacob. If Alex comes with him to the center he may occasionally nibble on her neck when he thinks they’re alone. Neither of them are PDA
who struggles to keep their hands to themself? Usually Jacob, once again not to big on PDA
how long can they cuddle until one becomes uncomfortable? They usually fall asleep cuddling and Alex will wiggle away in her sleep. Usually by morning, if it’s a peaceful night, Jacob will end up either sprawled slightly on her or cuddling her.
who gives the most kisses? Alex, she loves giving kisses to Jacob’s palm or the back of his hand.
what is their favourite non-sexual activity? Hikes in the woods
where is their favourite place to cuddle? At home in front of the fire
how often do they get time to themselves? Not a lot due to the circumstances of the world, but they get enough.
SLEEPING
who snores? Both, nothing more than light snores
if both do, who snores the loudest? See above
do they share a bed or sleep separately? Depends on the day. They do like to share the bed but more often than not Alex goes to the couch when she’s having a bad night.
if they sleep together, do they cozy up together or lay far apart? They like to be close, but Alex usually tries to fidget away.
what do they wear to bed? Jacob tends to wear a t-shirt and his boxers. Alex likes to wear just her panties and one of Jacob’s shirts. The smell helps her stay asleep.
are either of them insomniacs? Oh you know it. Two people with PTSD? YEEEP. Alex usually tries to help Jacob sleep but often doesn’t end up sleeping herself.
can sleeping pills be found by the bedside? No. Jacob usually ends up sleeping in due to them and he won’t have that. Alex tried but she hated not being able to wake up from her nightmares.
do they wrap their limbs around each other or just lay side by side? Usually just side by side. If one is having a bad night they’ll end up cuddling the other.
who wakes up with bed hair? Alex. She has more hair to mess up.
who wakes up first? Jacob, usually because around the time he’s waking up Alex is passing out.
who prepares breakfast in bed for the other? This isn’t something they normally do. Alex likes to every now and then as a treat.
what is their favourite sleeping position? Side by side, fingers barely brushing to remind the other that they’re there.
do they set an alarm each night? No. Sometimes it triggers Jacob’s PTSD so they just make sure to keep the curtains open so that the light can wake them.
can a television be found in their bedroom? Nah, that’s in the den. Jacob does keep his laptop in the room though so occasionally they watch Netflix on that.
who has nightmares? Both. It’s a mess.
who has ridiculous dreams? Neither.
who sprawls out and takes up most of the bed? Jacob, usually he ends up smothering Alex a little.
who makes the bed? Both, depends on who gets out of bed last.
what time is bed time? Hard to say, Alex is usually early morning. Jacob tries to sleep early as he gets up early.
any routines/rituals before bed? They try to spend at least half an hour just being close, no words needed.
who’s the grumpiest when they wake up? Alex. She’s a gremlin until she takes a shower and has breakfast.
WORK
who is the busiest? Jacob, his work keeps him busy.
who rakes in the highest income? Honestly neither.
are any of them unemployed? Technically yes?
who takes the most sick days? They’d both die before they take sick days.
who is more likely to turn up late to work? Neither, in rare cases Alex
who sucks up to their boss? Neither
what are their jobs? Jacob is ex-military turned General of sorts for the Project. Alex is a military-flunky (tried to escape from her mom, didn’t work) but ended up as a deputy after she finally had the courage to move to her grandparent’s house. She joined the police force to try and do some good.
who stresses the most? They’re both walking balls of stress underneath their calm.
do they enjoy or despise their careers/occupations? This is difficult to say. Jacob definitely finds satisfaction in his work to prepare the project for what’s to come. Alex doesn’t know what to think. She likes helping people but she feels off about her coworkers at times.
are they financially stable? Yep, money isn’t an issue.
HOME
who does the washing? Usually neither. Alex would if she has the time
who takes out the trash? Both, they like a clean home
who does the ironing? Jacob if he really wants to
who does the cooking? This is usually a toss up. They both don’t really care for cooking.
who is more likely to burn the house ranch down just trying? Alex honestly. She forgets she turned the oven one sometimes.
who leaves the toilet roll empty? Neither, the only time it’s left empty is if one has has to go get some from another area in the house.
who leaves their dirty clothes on the floor? Alex, but she picks up it the next morning or after her shower
who forgets to flush the toilet? Neither
who is the prankster around the house? Jacob. He usually does small little jokes or pranks to help lighten Alex’s mood if he notices she’s having a hard day. He never fesses up to them though.
who loses the car keys when it comes time to go somewhere? Alex, she can be a little spacey.
who mows the lawn? Both, they take turns. Usually an hour on and hour off.
who answers the telephone? Alex will out of her paranoia.
who does the vacuuming? They prefer no carpet, but Alex will take care of the sweeping if necessary.
who does the groceries? Jacob since he’s usually out later.
who takes the longest to shower? Alex. Gotta wash away the depression.
MISCELLANEOUS
is money a problem? No
how many cars do they own? Two, they each own one vehicle in case of emergencies.
do they own their home or do they rent? They each have their own home.
do they live in the city or in the country? Mountains baby.
do they enjoy their surroundings? Very much, they’re both in secluded areas of the county.
what’s their song? Only You, nope a joke. Alex actually gets very pissed off Jacob plays this as she has gone through the trials and is affected by it still. They don’t really ‘have a song’.
what do they do when they’re away from each other? Alex likes to read and maybe garden or hike. Jacob will be working in his office or hiking.
where did they first meet? Funny thing that. Alex was going to arrest his brother.
who spends the most money when out shopping? Alex, she likes to occasionally get something nice for Jacob.
who finds it amusing when the other trips over? Jacob, he always checks on Alex but he gets a little smirk. Calls her a clumsy pup.
any mental issues? HA. yeah
who’s terrified of bugs? Neither. Alex gets spooked if they appear out of nowhere.
who kills the spiders around the house? Both. They’re not afraid.
their favourite place? The lake is usually peaceful for them
who pays the bills? Bills don’t exist at the time
do they have any fears for their future? Very much so. They worry about survival and what the world will become
who’s more likely to surprise the other with a fancy dinner? Alex
who’s the tallest? Jacob
who’s more likely to just randomly hop into the shower with the other? Jacob, only because Alex is usually home first
who wanders around in their underwear? Alex
who sings the loudest when singing along to the radio? Neither, at most they both hum
what do they tease each other about? Jacob usually teases Alex that she does so well with trials but she easily gets flustered or clumsy when he flirts at her. Alex teases Jacob for being a softie when they’re alone... in front of his soldiers.
who is more likely to cringe at the other’s fashion sense at times? Probably Jacob. Alex doesn’t have a wide variety of clothes but she’s fond of her Testie Festie shirt.
who crushed first? Hard to tell. After things calmed down it was kinda mutual.
any alcohol or substance related problems? They both take to the drink to help them calm down or try to forget their pasts.
who is more likely to stumble home, drunk, at 3am? Both are equally likely for this. Most of the time it’s Alex after visiting Fall’s End.
who swears the most? Neither, they’re both pretty good about using swears appropriately.
Pairing: Jaime x MC
Word Count: 1,750
Summary: A blown tire leaves Arden stranded on the side of the road. Will she allow Jaime to help, or will her stubbornness get the better of her?
Note: My sincere apologies for failing to update Additions last week. School was all consuming and the time I meant to spend editing part 5 went to grading instead. Life should settle down soon, but in the meantime, here’s a quick little story that started as a drabble and got out of hand.
Thanks, @krishu213 for requesting #2 from the 45 OTP Prompt list! : ) The prompt itself is in bold.
Tumblr media
Kicking the driver’s door shut behind her, Arden sidestepped to the back of her car. She swung the trunk open with one hand, using the other to raise her cell phone to her ear. The tinny speaker rang twice before Jaime picked up.
“Hello?”
“Hey, babe,” she started casually. With her free hand, she rummaged through a mess of papers and her spare umbrella, tossing them to one side of the spacious trunk. “I’m just calling to let you know that I’ll be a few minutes late tonight. Nothing to worry about. I’m fine.”
There was a pause before his response. “Are you on the highway?”
Arden winced at the realization that he could hear the speeding traffic from the other end of the phone. “Uh…”
She couldn’t lie.
They didn’t lie to each other. Especially not after that disastrous second interview with Carmichael a year ago. Resigned, she sped over the response to his question. “Yeah, changing the tire real quick.”
“Arden…” He wasn’t upset, per se, but the resignation in his tone still stung.
“I know how to do it,” she protested, wedging the phone between her cheek and shoulder. As she listened to his tentative breath across the line, she tossed an empty suitcase to the side of the road. “Jaime, even if you hadn’t taught me how to do this, there are Wiki-hows and tutorials all over Youtube. I’ve got this covered.”
With a grimace, she recalled the fact that she’d barely been able to get the lug nuts off when they’d practiced in their driveway.
“I taught you in case of emergencies. This isn’t an emergency.”
Arden soldiered on petulantly, ignoring the sheen of sweat that was breaking over her forehead. With a quiet grunt, she yanked up the floor of the trunk to expose the donut and jack.
“Babe, get back in the car,” his tone was gentle, but commanding. “Turn up the AC and hang out for a few minutes. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
As much as she wanted to argue, just the sight of the pitiful replacement tire was enough to stir up a sense of dread in the pit of her stomach. With only a moment’s consideration, she dropped the flap back down and returned to the driver’s seat. “Okay.”
“Thank you. And thanks for calling me. I know you didn’t want to.”
“You’re welcome,” she mumbled. With an extended sigh, she started the car and watched the traffic through her rearview mirror. There were still a lot of sunlight hours left, but she couldn’t wait for the day to be over.
A key interview had fallen through this afternoon at the last minute. She and Ellen had been this close to completing their one-year retrospective on the state of Oak Hills, and today’s interview was supposed to be the finishing touch for the entire project. If they didn’t find someone else to fill the gap, the final third of the article would no longer fit the way they’d intended.
Arden leaned into the vent, trying to keep her burning eyes from breaking into tears. Such disappointments were inevitable in her line of work, but the stakes felt especially high with this story. She knew those farmers personally. She and Jaime had helped in the efforts to clean up the damage that the oil pipeline left behind. Better than anyone, she knew the work that still needed to be done in the months and years to come. Letting their story go forgotten was intolerable.
Jaime’s engine revved on the other side of the line.
Leaning back into her seat, she reached for her briefcase. “I should probably let you focus on driving,” she offered as she slipped the laptop from its sleeve.
He was quiet for several moments. “Are you sure you’re all right?”
Biting her tongue to draw out the sting of disappointment, she pressed her face into the flow of air a second time. “It’s just been a long day,” she told him finally. “I’m ready for it to be over so I can come home.”
“Okay. I’m coming as fast as I can.”
“Thanks. I’ll see you soon.”
“See you. Wait, Arden?” It sounded like an afterthought. “Please stay in the car. I want you safe.”
She smiled despite herself, giggling softly at his unnecessary worry. “It’s the back passenger tire. I could get out and fix it without ever being on the side of traffic.”
“No...”
It was impossible not to challenge him when she heard the unease in his tone. “I’m serious! I could head out there and start loosening things up for you.”
“No.”
“Are you sure? I’ll bet I could have the lug nuts off by the time you get here.”
She could just hear his chuckle over the line as he realized she was joking. “I’m sure you’d threaten them into submission. All hundred and five pounds of you...” he added under his breath. “Just hang tight. I’ll be there in less than fifteen minutes.”
“See you soon,” she agreed, feeling more at ease than she had in hours.
True to his word, he arrived some thirteen minutes later. In the meantime, she’d started outlining potential changes to the article’s organization. It hadn’t been much, but the work she’d done was enough to persuade her that there was still hope of finishing the story well, with or without the interview.
Arden closed the computer as his familiar truck slowed and came to a stop on the shoulder behind. Both exiting carefully, they met one another on the stretch of pavement between vehicles.
She flashed a shy smile, unable to keep her eyes from drifting over the sorry scene she’d caused. From the wilted tire to the contents of her trunk that were strewn along the shoulder, it wasn’t a pretty sight. Jaime’s gaze remained trained on her.
“You look like you need a hug.” He was inches away, the mingled scent of his deodorant and aftershave heady in the summer heat.
“It’s hot and sticky,” she protested weakly. Even as she did so, she dropped both hands to her sides and fell into his broad chest.
He pulled her close, enveloping her every sense. “We’ll be home showering soon.”
Arden’s lips tickled with the sigh she exhaled against the soft cotton of his T-shirt. “Good. I’m so done with today.” No matter how wonderful he felt, the evening sun was quickly making their hug unbearable. She stepped back and straightened the hem of her blouse.
Jaime hiked a hand through his hair before turning his attention to her flat. “Wanna tell me about it while I get this tire straightened out?”
“Not yet.” She circled the car with him, propping a hip against the passenger side door. “I’m still trying to figure out how to solve it at the moment. But I’ll fill you in once I do.”
“Deal.”
She watched as he returned to the open trunk, noticing the skeptical look he’d cast over the belongings she’d tossed to the side of the road.
Although he said nothing, she hoped he didn’t notice the way the tags on her suitcase fluttered under the pressure of speeding traffic. Or the tear in the plastic wrapping of her value-pack of toilet paper. Or the fact that her twelve-pack of ginger ale was being exposed to extreme temperatures while sitting out on the asphalt.
“I know, I know. My car’s a mess.”
He met her eyes with a lopsided grin. “You’ve just gotta stop using your trunk as a catch-all for things you don’t feel like carrying into the house.”
“But it’s such a good place for storage!”
Jaime rolled his eyes and lifted out the donut for inspection. “There are shelves in our pantry for all of that stuff.”
Pursing her lips, she reluctantly acknowledged that he was right. “I’ll empty it when we get home.”
Shaking his head, he knelt to begin removing the busted tire. Arden held out a hand to take the lug nuts, one by one.
“I’m glad you called me. These were stuck on pretty tight.”
“I would have gotten them eventually.”
His arm paused as he squinted up at her. “I know. But you don’t have to wait for eventually. I can have you out of here as soon as possible.”
A flare of jealousy turned her appreciation into anger. She knew he didn’t mean anything by it, but the implication reminded her of the afternoon’s previous failure. Faced with the memory of something she couldn’t do on her own, it was difficult to swallow the pride he took in his own abilities.
“I’m not helpless,” she mumbled, not intending the words for anyone but herself.
Jaime dropped the tire iron with a clatter and stood to his feet. He kept his dirty hands far away from her clothes, but brushed a knuckle along the back of her wrist. “Arden, look at me.”
She obeyed, cheeks throbbing red from the heat of her frustration. Her husband was as calm and collected as ever, his own muscles relaxed even as she tightened her grip on the small metal circles in her palm.
“Babe, you are absolutely the furthest thing from helpless. I hope that never changes. But it doesn’t mean you can’t let others help you from time to time.”
“I just hate being needy.” She glanced back toward the battered tire between them.
“Two things.” He made sure that he had her eyes again before continuing on. “You aren’t needy, and I really enjoy helping you. I have for a long time.”
The corners of her mouth curved up, leaving brighter thoughts behind. “You really are Mr. Fix-it, aren’t you?”
His face quirked with a dubious slant before settling into a smile. “For you? Happily.”
Arden swept up the tire iron and handed it back to him with an affectionate grin, her lungs inflating with a new sense of purpose. “Then let’s finish up here and go home.”
“Wanna go for a swim when we get back?”
Feeling the burdens of the afternoon lift from her shoulders, she threw her head back with a laugh. “Yes, please.”
“But Arden?” He wrenched the final nut loose and handed it to her with a flourish.
“Hmm?”
“We’re emptying that trunk first.”
She giggled as she caught his sidelong glance. Suddenly, the rest of the day didn’t seem so bad after all.
Important OTP Questions (Send a ship to my ask box and some numbers!) || @grimsouled || accepting
1) Who rocks the Ferris Wheel seat and who flips out and begs them to stop?
Cassie totally does this to gauge Hanzo’s reaction, and I kind of think it would be perplexing if he had acrophobia. The only fearless hellspawn specter, scared of the heights.
2) Who is always horny and will have sex at any time, at any place and at any time?
More Cassie than Hanzo, Hanzo doesn’t have a high sexual drive to begin with, but that may change depending on what kind of significant other he has. They have their own set limits, because they are two very distinguished and respected Special Force Commander and Shirai Ryu Grandmaster, so they would most likely limit sex in personal and intimate space. e.g. bedroom and possibly in the shower.
3) Who is more into taking showers/baths together? Who tries to make it relaxing and who tries to make it sexy time?
Both, such intimate moments are pivotal for their relationship and it could be both sexual and non-sexual. Not only do they get to explore their bodies and map the constellations, they get to emotionally bond over afterwards, which is the most sacred and pivotal aspect of romantic/sexual relationship for Hanzo.
4) Who likes to walk around the house naked and who tells the other to go put some clothes on?
Hanzo would most likely walk around topless a lot, especially when the sun’s blinding radiance engulfs him whole (not in vain or exceeding pride of his physique, but he does train topless when he’s on the training grounds). I don’t think Cassie would mind this AT ALL.
5) Who sleeps on the couch when they get into a fight?
Hanzo never has been an advocate of sleeping separately even after an argument or a fight. It is most important for Hanzo that regardless of their moods, they share the same bed to share the semblance of tactile touches.
6) Who takes photos of the other while they sleep?
Cassie. She would keep them PRIVATELY and look at them when she has to be away from him. Hanzo looks decades younger without all the taut tension sculpting his face when he’s solemnly sleeping in peace.
7) Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?
Hanzo, and Cassie, respectively. While it has been exceedingly difficult for him to admit her feelings for her in the beginning, with their kiss under the moon, Hanzo knew that such feelings were reciprocated and Cassie has been holding the same feeling towards him. Cassie understands and tolerates a lot of Hanzo’s vices and flaws, because they both are firm believers that one should love every one of one’s facets if they fall in love.
8) Who likes to wear the others sweatshirts?
Cassie wears a lot of Hanzo’s robes and sometimes his pants. They are loose and comfortable on her. Hanzo would most likely gift her either one of his own robes (something that could commemorate and signify their first kiss) or her own personalized one.
9) Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had? Who has the most nightmares, and who sings them back to sleep after?
Cassie is most likely, but they both are respectable towards each other and they can wait until the morning. Hanzo, by far, suffers most from nightmares and night terrors, and Cassie comforts him.
10) Who is more likely to cheat?
Hanzo and Cassie both are very invested and dedicated to their monogamous relationships, and for Hanzo, getting into a serious relationship is sacred and most sincere endeavor. So no cheating for either of them!
11) Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?
Hanzo may tease her from every now and then and vice versa. Neither of them has to be reminded of the fact that they are in a relationship, though Hanzo may need to be reminded that he’s loved for whoever he is, with vices and virtues and all.
12) Who starts a food fight in the kitchen?
Neither. Compared to other people, they are neat, and tidy considering the high-ranked, professional reputation they have to uphold. They don’t mind feeding each other things and being lovey-dovey, but that is about it.
13) Who initiates duets? and who is the better singer?
I doubt that they would ever sing sober; such possibility is the case when they are both inebriated, which will be a rare exhibit. Hanzo sinks into capricious mood swings and can get immensely depressive or talkative, somewhat elated and happy. So maybe that’s when they can sing together? I think they have nice intonation and pleasant sound when they vocalize, so I can imagine both being great singers.
14) Who starts the hand holding? Who grabs the others butt? Who slides their arm around their waist? Who likes to put their fingers in the belt loops?
Hanzo likes to hold hands, he just isn’t all that keen with PDA, considering his respectable position. The same goes for Cassie, for they are exceptionally good at separating their professionalism with their personal intimacy. Cassie also likes to entwine her smaller hand into Hanzo’s bigger one and Hanzo has strong inclination to curve his arm around and gently pull Cassie in an intimate setting, especially when they are in bed. Cassie definitely enjoys to seductively tantalize Hanzo, and especially delights in observing Hanzo’s reaction.
15) Who likes writes the others name on their wrist?
Neither, Hanzo is not at all for tattoos and neither does Cassie, for public endeavor. They may do that after sex and during their pillow talk, tracing each other’s name on the back or on the palm of their hands, in idleness and in tranquility. Hanzo may even do it in his native Japanese.
16) Who is more seductive when they are drunk? and who is louder in bed?
Hanzo, he gets rather affectionate and ‘clingy’ when he’s intoxicated. Neither of them are not that loud in bed, minus the occasional moans and grunts. Cassie may try to make Hanzo gasp out her name, just for the fun of it.
17) Who is more protective?
Hanzo, he has lost his family in his previous life and that alone, with the extinction of the Shirai Ryu, is the reason why he suffers too much from PTSD symptoms and nightmares/night terrors. He does not want the pained history to repeat, ever, and he will do whatever it takes to thwart that from happening.
18) Who talks to the other while they are sleeping?
Hanzo, more likely because he doesn’t sleep very often.
19) Who drives and who has the window seat?
Neither, don’t need a vehicle in their original setting, Hanzo can simply transport himself and his company if he wished and Cassie could use the portals.
20) Who falls asleep in the others lap and who carries them to bed?
Both have propensities to do that, but Hanzo’s a heavyweight compared to Cassie. If she falls asleep, Hanzo bridal carries her or cradles her to bed or in a comfortable position, if they happen to be outside.
21) Who cuts the others hair?
I can see Cassie attempting to cut Hanzo’s hair if it gets too long (well past his shoulder blade).
22) Who is super bad at sexting? and who sends them encouraging messages throughout the day?
HANZO. He gets so flustered, even when he’s used to the concept of texting. They both do throughout the day, especially if they are away from each other.
23) Who thinks they are not good enough for the others love? and who’s more afraid of losing the other? Who thinks they keep messing up, only for the other to tell them they don’t need to worry?
HANZO, and both. They both has lost someone very significant and irreplaceable in their lives and for Hanzo, it has taken him almost two decades to come to the terms with his present life and get into any semblance of romantic/sexual relationships. Hanzo thinks he is undeserving and inadequate of love from time to time for not being able to protect Harumi and Satoshi.
24) Who starts random slow dancing with the other in the kitchen? Who holds the other just above the ground and kisses them?
Cassie, especially when she’s drunk and all giddy and happy. Hanzo has a tendency to lift her off the ground and shower her in kisses.
25) Who says shitty puns and sex jokes just to see the other giggle and blush?
CASSIE, though Hanzo does not giggle, his visage will tinge a deep beet red.
26) Who kissed first?
Hanzo. Did the thing in this thread (x)
27) Who orders take out at two in a morning? and who wakes the other up at three in the morning to go downstairs with them to get a glass of water because it’s too dark?
Doesn’t have to, because if Hanzo is up (most likely he will be), he’s more than capable of cooking a simple meal for her. He will also get her a glass of water in a fraction of a second, because he likes to teleport.
28) Who writes poems/stories and love songs about the other? Do they sing the songs the write for them?
More Hanzo than Cassie, for one of his hobbies is writing and practicing calligraphy. He would rarely sing the song when Cassie’s awake; he does it when she’s sleeping in the bed or against his lap or shoulder.
29) Who does some crazy stunt to try and impress the other and who ends up driving them to the emergency room after it backfires?
Neither. Neither of them are that reckless or vain; they know each other’s capabilities and skillsets and will not push beyond their limitations. Though Hanzo may overexert to relieve stress and force his body to crumble beneath exhaustion.
30) Who is embarrassed when they have to wear their glasses and who thinks they look super cute?
Hanzo occasionally has to wear reading glasses (especially when he’s buried in the paperwork) and Cassie comments on how cute he looks when he does wear them.
How to register my ambulance online-drivers point of view
Meddco Ambulance Assistance (MAA) is India's first emergency ambulance booking application that is based on a real-time location tracking system. Meddco ambulance assistance is a provider of emergency patient transportation services.
During difficult moments, every second seems like an hour, and not receiving an ambulance on time exacerbates the problem. Meddco ambulance assistance provides   24-hour service, so one does not have to worry about finding an ambulance in the dead of night. These ambulances can do intercity transfers, advanced life support, and patient transfers on a timetable. Our ambulance network throughout India will offer a much-needed fast medical safety net in the event of a medical emergency, rather than wasting their precious time looking for or haggling for an ambulance.
My feet ache. My thighs are burning. I’m dodging families and vehicles. Especially dodging cyclists with their maniacal ways. Honestly, my hatred for cyclists can probably be blamed on Jeremy Clarkson, but as a runner I’ve found his rants about them much more factual than purely hatred based.
Eight kilometres into my run. Only two to go. It’s eight am. It’s Thursday. It’s a bye week, so I don’t have therapy this week. Sometimes I feel that the nicest part of the new job I’ve got is that I can wake up and make myself a real breakfast rather than just grabbing a smoothie on my way into the office.
I’ve been in the broadcast news room for a week now. It’s been enlightening. I’ve not had any big days like my first, none of my segments made it into the first two blocks, but I haven’t felt down about it since Saturday when I talked to Liam.
I’ve been managing. I’ve been doing well. I’ve learned to take solace in just being part of each nightly broadcast.
It’s when I hit the ninth kilometre, my watch beeping at me as I hit another mark. Only one to go.
It’s now that my mind starts to drift. To a certain primary school teacher.
Thoughts of blue eyes, dimples, a ginger coloured beard and strawberry blonde hair. Thoughts of a lean build in a stupidly attractive button down that was worn the other night at the pub.
Thoughts of Jack have been swirling in my mind like a maelstrom, around and around, and I’ve been unable to pull myself out of the spiral. I keep thinking of the blush that crept onto his face and the way he bit his lip. It makes my heart soar. There’s no way he could be into me. Which makes my heart sink.
And so the spiral continues.
I haven’t heard from Jack or his sister Lily since that night after she made sure I had arrived home safely.
I haven’t told Piper about seeing him again either. I don’t want to get her started on ‘shipping’ us. We are not to become her ‘OTP’. That isn’t something I need. Piper would not rest until she got us together and that would be embarrassing on a lot of fronts when it doesn’t work out.
I’ve got a bead of sweat on my brow about to drop into my eye. So I reach up and swipe it away with the inner crease of my arm, momentarily blocking my view, forcing me to have to swerve past a stroller at the last second.
“Fuck sake,” I mumble with a harsh breath in regard to the stroller as I see my street finally come to view ahead of me.
It had been suggested when I started running that I do not listen to music when I run. Melissa wanted to do a sort of test to see where my mind wandered when it had an allocated time to just think and be. So, since the day I started, I never have listened to music. As a consequence, I never bring my phone with me.
That feeling is quite freeing. For as long as I’m out running, whether it be a long run or a short one, I’m away from everything, any distractions and any micro stressors that I’ve got in my life. Instead, all I have to think about is my ability to keep going, my ability to struggle through the blisters and the ankle sprains and whatever other injuries I may get as a result.
It makes me proud of myself: running. It’s hard to do and every day I do it, for myself.
My mother and brother used to worry, of course, that I would be out around London early in the morning without a phone to contact anyone in case of emergency. When I got my new GPS watch it made them feel a bit better that it could be connected to my phone.
I turn that feature off when I’m out though so that nothing and no one can distract me from my running getaway. I don’t tell them that, though.
Let them think I’m taking all precautions. That white lie won’t hurt them.
I make my way up the front steps of the building and catch my breath quickly as I put in the pin for my building and jog up the stairs—all three flights—to get to our front door. Piper’s taken the day off from working in the gallery to take some new photos around the city.
She’s hoping to get some fall photos for a possible new exhibit. She’s trying to make the dying of summer, beautiful and spread that beauty. Fall, when the leaves slip from their branches, when the flowers lie dormant under the soil, and the sky becomes almost perpetually grey—more so than usual—is when the world renews itself.
Piper finds beauty in that. I love her for that. I like to compare her to Van Gogh in that way. She tends to roll her eyes at the comparison, but I still think it stands.
The best part of this is—her day away from the gallery—is that she’s made breakfast for us. I can smell it as I push open the front door and kick off my trainers.
“Oh,” Piper sighs when I step in and she sees me. “Thank god. Your phone just went off with an unknown number and I was too afraid to answer it for you,” she says, pointing to where it’s charging on the end table.
“You made mini quiches?” I ask in disbelief.
“I was going to make pastries and omelettes separately but I just… I got carried away.” She lifts her hands up and shrugs, almost helplessly. “I don’t really know what happened.”
With a laugh, I shake my head and pour myself a glass of milk.
“You having the day off is a very weird situation for me,” I give her an amused look.
“Yeah, well,” she smiles. “It’s weird having you home this late, too,” she knocks my elbow a bit as I drink. “I’m so used to you being gone before I even wake up. Now you’re out and about, having tea while I’m getting ready to leave for work.”
“It’s been a week and I’m not used to it either,” I say back. “I feel all sorts of discombobulated.”
“How was the run?” She asks now.
I look down at my watch and quickly calculate. “Not my best,” I make a face before smoothing it out. “But I did manage to avoid any major incidents with bicycles.”
“Now that’s improvement and should be celebrated properly,” Piper starts taking the mini quiches out of their muffin tins and placing them on a cooling rack. “Make yourself a nice brew and celebrate.”
“How many of those did you make?” I ask in awe as I watch her pull another mini muffin tin full of quiches from the oven.
“Forty-eight,” she mumbles.
“Right, well I know what my breakfast and lunch is going to be for the next week,” I tease her a bit more.
“Shut it,” she mumbles more and elbows me in the spleen.
“I’m going to shower,” I shrug and roll my eyes before heading to the bathroom.
“Good, because you smell bloody awful!” She yells after me as the door closes behind myself.
The stream is beating down on my shoulders and releasing the tension there, the steam filling up the small room around me as I breathe deeply and lean back to rinse the shampoo from my hair.
I can hear Piper put on some music and smile when I hear some Eagles playing. Piper and I had first bonded in uni when we were placed in the same housing. We were roomed directly across from each other in a six-student mixed-gender housing situation and about two months into the school year we realized we liked the same music and took our tea the same way.
It actually started when she had gotten upset with one of our other roommates for having sex—loudly—in the room adjacent to hers and so she’d placed her jbl speaker right against the wall they shared and started blasting Baba O’Riley as loud as it would allow her to.
I’d taken pity on her and told her she could sleep on my bed and I’d take the couch. She’d declined, but we ended up sitting up half the night on the couch drinking brews and discussing the music that was still playing loudly from down the hallway. We’d woken up with kinks in our necks from sleeping sitting up on the couch and ended up skipping our morning classes in order to sleep in our beds and then talk some more.
We’ve been best friends ever since.
It’s starting to get quite cold in the mornings, my runs more frigid than they had been just a few brief weeks before. The cold seeps in slowly after I run, the heat of my workout leaving me and the cold pulling me under. It’s why my typically cooler showers heat up so much in the winter. It’s the way I raise my body temperature back up.
With the shampoo all gone from my hair and the chill finally gone from my bones, I turn and push the water off, sighing as I dry off and wrap myself in a warm towel. In the mirror, I can’t help but notice the contrast between my dark, damp hair and my pale skin
I think it’s something about being British that I actually don’t mind being pale. Perhaps its because I’ve never really had the opportunity to see myself tan to compare.
There’s something almost cathartic about combing out my hair that I just love. It’s relaxing. Melissa thinks I use it as a metaphor. A sort of way to physically feel and see tangles being removed from my hair and by extension, my life. Piper, even though she’s fully supportive of me in all ways, thinks that’s a load of bullshit.
“Your phone buzzed again, and your tea is ready,” Piper calls as I tread from the bathroom to my bedroom to get dressed.
“You really are a blessing, no matter how in disguise you may be,” I tell her a few minutes later when I reappear from my room all clothed.
“You’re such a toad,” she pushes a plate filled with four mini quiches toward me as I lift the mug with my brew in it to my lips, blowing on it to hopefully cool it down a bit.
When I move the mug away from my mouth I give her a smile and a wink.
“You might actually be the worst,” she shakes her head.
“I honestly think I might be,” I shrug and take a sip of the brew. It’s perfect. Oh my gosh, it’s exactly what I needed. My eyes close and Piper giggles at my reaction.
“You and your brews are honestly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, Wren,” I open my eyes in time to see Piper pop a mini quiche into her mouth.
“Verdict?” I ask.
“I did a proper good making these,” she brags.
“Oh come off your high horse, Pip,” I take a bite out of one of the pastries she’d given to me and I fight hard to keep my reaction to myself.
“It’s good, innit?” Piper asks with a smirk.
“Shut it,” I mumble around the food in my mouth and she laughs more before heading off to her room.
“My camera battery should be charged by now and I want to get as much out of the day after my whole, GBBO morning…” she trails off and I hear her shuffling in her room.
“For what it’s worth, I think you’d at least make it past the first round,” I call out to her.
“Thanks for that support you little shit,” she comes out of her room wearing her leather jacket and with her camera bag over her shoulder. “I’ll see you tonight, love,” she leans over and kisses my cheek. “Knock ‘em dead,” she grabs her keys and opens the door.
“God, sometimes I feel like we’re married,” I groan.
“Power couple of the year,” she winks before she’s gone, the door closing behind her and I’m left shaking my head.
11
It’s not until I’m leaving for work an hour later when I pull my phone off the charger on my way to the front door, that I’m reminded I have messages. One is from an unknown number, a voice message, while the other is from my brother asking if I can watch Charlie for a few hours on Saturday.
He has to head to work for a few hours.
I shake my head but quickly text back that I should be fine to watch Charlie and then slip my phone into my jacket pocket, doing up the bottoms and then heading out the door.
Every few moments I’m glancing at my watch, hoping to whoever or whatever that I make my train on time. I’d lost track of time when I was plaiting my hair and listening to a podcast, not realizing I was cutting it very close on time.
The cool air, while unwelcome while I’m out on a run, is actually some of my favourite weather and I feel a sense of calm fall over me as I shuffle past everyone who’s out and about on the sidewalk while I’m actually trying to get somewhere on a time frame.
A shocking idea to some people in London, I muse as I swipe my oyster card and practically jog down the escalators to get to the right platform on time.
“Fuckin’ hell,” I breathe out a sigh of relief as I step into the carriage just as the doors close. I honestly feel a bit like Indiana Jones when the doors just miss me. I find an empty seat and plop down into it unceremoniously before digging into my bag for headphones and plunking them in my ear before attaching them to my phone.
I open my voice messages and click play.
“Wren.”
My breath catches. It’s Jack.
I start to fiddle with the button on my coat nervously as I continue to listen. What if something happened to Charlie and Liam was too busy taking care of it to call me? I feel my pulse quicken as I listen more.
“It’s Jack.” There’s a breath and a pause. “I wanted to see if maybe you’d like to grab dinner with me.” Another pause. “I’m walking into school now so I won’t be able to answer until after three if you call back, but I’d love to hear from you.”
That’s it. He ends the call.
The people on the tube with me must think there’s something wrong with me—if they’re paying any attention at all. I’m flushed and breathing quickly, my heart beating at a quicker pace than a hummingbird’s wings. I’m almost sure it can be heard over the rattling of the train.
He wants to get dinner. With me. I think of his cheeky smile and feel my blush spread to the tips of my ears as I look down at my hands in my lap and bite my bottom lip.
I know for sure that by the time I reach work, walking forward out of the elevator, my blush is still noticeable on my cheeks. I feel like everyone can tell I’m giddy. Perhaps they think I’ve taken drugs. Even James, who’s been busy trying to convince Seamus to put something into the copy all day, seems to be looking at me funnily.
Consistently throughout the day, I find myself thinking about Jack. It’s worse than usual. When I run something over to Karl about the new speed cameras on the M5 I jump when I think about how close it is to three.
We’ve had the daily rundown meeting, through which I had a hard time focusing, and I’d been counting down the hours since I’d had a free moment to do so.
“Are you feeling alright?” Jamie asks when I sit down at my desk block. She’s diagonal across from me in the grouping of three, so she’s probably been watching me all day. “You look a bit flushed and you’ve seemed a bit out of it all day.”
“I’m fine,” I assure her. “Just a little distracted, but I’m fine,” I shoot her what I hope to be a reassuring smile and she nods, unconvinced. She returns her focus back to her desktop though and lets the subject drop, for which I’m grateful.
It’s five after three when I glance at the clock and feel my throat dry. What do I even say to him when I do call him? Shit. I’ve been so enamoured all day that I’ve forgotten to work out how to respond.
I know I want to go out with him, but how do I express that?
For a split second, I think about calling Piper and then immediately I shake that thought from my mind as quickly as it came. That would take me telling Piper about seeing him last weekend, would get her all excited for something that would more than likely turn out to be nothing. There was a reason I hadn’t told her in the first place.
No, that’s not something I’m interested in.
So now I’ve got to figure it out all myself. I mean, it’s not like I can ask Liam for advice. He’d probably lock me up in my bedroom if he knew I was thinking about going out on a date.
My older brother, who’s been married and has a child, is petrified by the very idea of my dating.
Find the logic behind that for me and I’ll pay you heartily in Yorkshire puddings. The best food in the world as a reward for a small tidbit of information. That’s a more than fair offer is all I’m saying.
It’s while I’m thinking that I realize I’ve opened my phone and pulled up Jack’s number to call him back. By now it’s almost four. That’s what all my planning has resulted in: no plan and an entire hour passed.
I hit his number and taking a deep breath I hold it and hover my thumb over the call button for a solid minute before releasing the breath and pressing the button.
“Hello,” his voice greets me after two rings.
If I was standing my knees would’ve given out. Such a simple word.
“I’d love to go to dinner with you,” I blurt before I can say anything else. I bite the inside of my cheek to keep from rambling because in the brief silence I can feel myself wanting to ramble. Almost like word vomit.
“Is tonight good?” His voice lulls again, thankfully before I can let anything stupid to slip past my own lips.
“I don’t get off until nine,” I say now.
“That’s fine,” he tells me.
“I don’t want to keep you out late,” I continue.
“I don’t mind.”
“I’d be keeping you out late… on a school night!” I gasp for dramatic effect. “What is your mum going to think? She’ll call me a nuisance and a bad influence!”
“It could be argued that you’re both, but typically I don’t listen to what my mum says when it comes to things like this,” his voice has me blushing at my desk. In an open bullpen, at a shared desk, I’m blushing.
Oh god. I’m so embarrassed. On so many levels.
He continues. “I’m fine with however late you feel fit to keep me out. Hell, keep me out all night if you have to.”
I can hear his smirk just through his tone. I know that on his end of the call, as he holds the mobile to his ear, he’s just got a smug little smirk plastered on his face.
I, meanwhile, have a hand covering my eyes as my forehead rests on the desk and I try to make myself as small as possible.
“How about we get together on Saturday instead? I’ve got to watch Charlie for a bit but maybe we can just grab coffees and go to my friend’s gallery?” I ask, my stomach eating itself with my nerves.
“That sounds great,” he says. “I’ll see you Saturday, Wren.” He ends the call before anything else can be said.
There are butterflies and then there are elephants. I’ve got elephants clomping through my stomach, just smashing into each other and toppling and stampeding. It feels like I’m going to be violently sick in anticipation.
And that’s when I realize.
Now I have to tell Piper.
12
“Tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“I bloody don’t know, Wren but something is up with you.” We’re sat on top of unoccupied driers in our local laundromat, The Spin Cycle, watching our clothes spin round and round in the washers opposite us.
Every other Thursday night has been laundry night since uni (minus the few years Piper was up in Liverpool) and even with my schedule change, that’s remained the same.
Piper had seen how drained I was after one of my first therapy sessions and knew that doing coursework would’ve been too much for me. Still, she argued that I needed to feel productive somehow to pick me up and she had piles upon piles of clothes on her floor so that’s what she came up with.
It helped. And the routine was born. The two of us chatting lightly as we wash, fluff, and fold our laundry.
“Honestly, I dunno what you’re talking about,” I shrug now and wring my hands together.
“Well, that’s a lie, innit?” She gives me a prompting look.
“It might be,” I fire back.
“Oh, it might be?” She nudges me a bit with her elbow. “You’re such a cheeky fuck, aren’t you?”
“Fuckin’ right,” I smile back at her.
She shakes her head with a smile but after a minute of silence, she gets back into the inquiry. As a journalist and a news producer, you’d think Piper would be intimidated by my interviewing knowledge. You’d also think that I would be good at interviews and interview tactics, but not when I’m on the opposite side of the coin from normal.
I want to shiver just as she turns back to look at me.
“What is it?” she asks, her voice low, her eyes sincere.
The sincerity gets me. That’s what forces me to answer.
“You remember Charlie’s teacher?” I ask quietly, mumbling, hoping that she didn’t actually hear me, knowing that she did.
“Hot for teacher,” she nods, looking at me earnestly. I can see her trying to figure out just what I’m trying to say, the wheels are turning. Piper’s deductive reasoning is not to be messed with.
“Well,” I shrug, hoping that does it. That that answers her questions. And I know it doesn’t, but there’s a small hope.
“Y’know sometimes,” she gives me a look, “talking to you is like talking to a fuckin’ wall.”
I glare. Then, I sigh. “I saw him on Saturday.”
“You fuckin’ wot?!”
“I went to Simmons after Charlie’s party because I needed a drink and my whiskey stash at home ran out about a month ago,” she nods. She helped me finish it off. “I’d just gotten my drink, had just taken a sip to let the alcohol seep into my blood and I hear my name being called. It’s him and he’s with his sister.”
“And you didn’t tell me?” she asks.
“I didn’t want to get you excited over nothing!” I explain. “All that happened was that we chatted, mostly I chatted with his sister though.”
“So, tell me why you’ve been so jumpy tonight then,” she knows I’m not telling her the whole story.
“He’s the unknown number that called me this morning,” I explain.
“Shit,” she gasps. “What did he want?”
“He just asked if I wanted to go to dinner with him, so when I called him back I told him we could grab coffee and go to your gallery this Saturday,” I say in a rush, in one big breath.
“You did what?” She asks. She’s got wide eyes as she looks me over. “You’re fucking nuts, love! You did all that on your own? The fuck do you need me for now?”
“I’m so goddamn nervous,” I sputter out.
“Oh, love,” she pulls me into her side, wrapping an arm around me. “Listen to me, right? He called you,” she reassures me. “He wants to spend time with you, get to know you. You have no reason whatsoever to be nervous. None at all.”
“But he’s only known me briefly,” I tell her. “Just the one day when I picked up Charlie and then the other day Saturday, but his sister was there to smooth over any awkward bits in the conversation.”
“Who gives a shit about awkward bits?” she spits, angrily. “Life is fucking awkward,” she shakes her head. “Let it be awkward. Embrace the awkward,” she gives me a nudge.
“What the fuck are you on about?” I ask her.
“I’m saying,” she squeezes me, “that nobody gives a shit if you’re awkward. Even if it’s awkward it can still be good,” she shrugs.
“I’ve never had that experience,” I tell her begrudgingly.
“Wren,” she sighs. “Just, he clearly wants to spend time with you, and knowing you, even in your brief time together, you’ve been awkward around him. He doesn’t care. He wants you around, wants to see where it goes.”
I take a deep breath. “That’s bull-“
“Does he make you blush?” she asks, cutting me off. “Does he give you butterflies and make you feel something you’ve not felt before, something not Ed nor Evan made you feel?”
I bite my lower lip and hesitate. He’s intriguing. He does make me blush, does give me butterflies. I don’t know him well enough to answer whether or not he makes me feel something neither of my boyfriends past could make me feel. When he gives me that cheeky smile though or looks at me with those sincere, deep blue eyes… there’s an inkling. Something lingers under the surface that makes me think there could be more.
So I nod.
“That’s your answer then,” Piper lies her head on my shoulder. “You’ve got to embrace the awkward to find out what that feeling with him is, right?”
“Okay,” I acquiesce.
“Fuck, what’s his name again?” she asks.
“Jack,” I smile, his name slipping out from between my lips, the sound like velvet as it crosses my skin.
“There you are,” she pulls back and looks at me, pointing to my face. “Your face, just now when you said his name? You’ve got to see where this takes you,” she smiles. “I have a feeling this is going to be very, very good for you.”
Benefits of EV Chargers at Doubletree by Hilton Pomona
After the installation of the two Noodoe EV P1000 Charging Stations at the hotel back in 2018 – the hotel administration, the users and the employees are all benefited. Have a look at few benefits:
Keeping Employee Happy: Organizations who value their employees and work towards their benefit – are increasingly profitable, as such employees are responsive and committed towards the organization.
Responsibility towards the environment: Social duty is key for organizations today and empowering Electric Vehicles is a critical piece of that. EV charging at the working environment sends an unmistakable and obvious message about where the business remains regarding decreasing the ecological effect of its activities and staff.
Client Convenience: Clients make decisions about which companies to partner with on the basis of a wide range of factors – and convenience is one of the most important. EV charging stations on the premises will be attractive as clients can simply fill up with charge while attending a meeting or site visit.
What is Credit Card? {Complete Guide}
Credit cards are issued by banks and financial institutions allowing the user to make purchases and pay for various services by borrowing money from them.
Apart from providing the much needed alternative to cash, credit cards also offer you benefits in the form of rewards, cashbacks, interest-free period and much more.
The demand for credit cards in the Indian market is growing rapidly and hence leading banks have launched plenty of credit card options for the customers to choose from.
Tumblr media
There are a host of credit cards available in the market having different features and benefits linked to them.
The most popular ones are travel credit cards, shopping credit cards, entertainment credit cards, fuel credit cards, co-branded credit cards, cashback credit cards, lifetime free credit cards, premium credit cards and business credit cards.
Features of Credit Card
1. Alternative to Cash: Having a credit card is a very safe and convenient alternative to carrying a bundle of cash. It can make shopping hassle-free and will also ensure the safety of money.
2. Emergencies: Whether there is a medical emergency or some other kind of urgent cash requirement, credit cards can provide help by making immediate credit available under such circumstances.
3. Making Big Purchases: The whole concept of ‘buy now pay later’ makes it rather easier for people to make some big purchases and setting up an EMI pay back method with their banks.
4. Build Your Credit Score: One of the biggest advantages of owning a credit card is that it is easy to build a credit history through your credit card transactions.
Also, repaying all your credit card dues in time will help improve your credit score which, in turn, can help you in getting loans in the future.
Tumblr media
Many times loan applications are rejected because the applicant doesn't have a credit history and having a credit card is one of the easiest ways to build your credit history.
5. Secure Transactions: New credit cards feature the chip and pin system, which adds to their security, hence they are safer than carrying around large amounts of cash and also save you from Credit Card Fraud. In case of online transactions, a two tier authentication system is followed, where apart from the information on the card such as card number, expiry date and CVV, an OTP or secret password is also required to complete the online transaction which is sent to your registered mobile number.
6. Track Your Purchases: When using cash, it becomes difficult to keep track of the purchases. However, with a credit card, you can easily maintain a track record of the transactions that you have made with the help of the monthly credit card statement.
Components of a Credit Card
A credit card is not all about the number and chip; there is a lot more information on the front and back of a credit card. Before using a credit card, you must know the different parts of it.
Tumblr media
1. Credit Card Number- It is a 16-digit number that identifies your credit card account with the bank. In case of Amex Credit Card, the card number will only have 15 digits. You need to provide this number when making online purchases. This number is unique for every card hence you should never share it with anyone else.
2. Expiry Date- This is also mentioned on the bottom of your credit card. This is the date through which your card remains valid.
3. Bank Logo- This section includes the branding of your bank. It can be on the top right or top left corner of your card.
4. Card Name- Banks launch different series of credit cards and the same will be mentioned on the card itself. For example, in case of HDFC MoneyBack Credit Card, HDFC Bank is the lender branding and MoneyBack is the card series name.
5. Cardholder’s Name- The primary user’s name is also mentioned on the front side of the card at the bottom.
6. Chip- The magnetic strip credit cards have now become outdated and the new cards have a smart chip on the front side. This helps in preventing fraudulent activities like card cloning.
7. Network Logo- Your credit card would belong to any of the four payment networks- Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. Logo of the same would be on the front side of your credit card.
8. Contact less Sign- If you have a Contactless Credit Card, you would find a sign for the same on the front. You can use a contactless card just by waving it near a NFC-enabled POS machine without having to swipe it.
9. Magnetic Stripe- This stripe contains your card details and plays a major role in making payment at POS Terminals. When you swipe your card, information is sent to the bank through payment network to authorize the transaction.
10. CVV- You will also find additional security code CVV on the back-side of your credit card. You are required to mention it at the time of making online payment.
11. Signature Panel- There is a small panel given underneath the magnetic stripe where you are required to sign. You must sign your credit card before you start using it.
12. Hologram- You will also find a mirror-like hologram on the back side of your credit card. It usually has an image printed on it which is visible when you change the viewing angle. This helps merchants identify valid credit cards.
13. Bank Contact Information- The back side of your card also contains some contact information of the bank. It also includes an address to which the card must be returned if found unattended.
14. Terms and Conditions- If your card has any important terms and conditions related to its usage, the same would be mentioned on the back. For example- “Not valid for payment in Foreign Exchange in Nepal and Bhutan”.
Types of Credit Cards
Travel Credit Cards- A number of banks, nowadays, are offering travel-centric credit cards. These credit cards offer all the normal benefits along with extra focus on travel related features such as airport lounge access, air mile earnings, air accident insurance cover, etc. It is wise to put your travel expenses on these cards for earning more rewards and availing direct discounts at partner flight or hotel chains. Some of these cards may also offer low foreign exchange mark-up fee when you use them at international POS terminals or ATMs. To encourage users, travel credit cards may also offer extra reward earnings on travel expenses.
Shopping Credit Cards- These cards are more focused upon lifestyle benefits such as discounts on apparel, footwear, etc. Shopping credit cards are a viable option for frequent shoppers, especially those who would like to put their monthly expenditure on credit cards. Most of the credit cards in the market have been designed to offer shopping benefits to the users as it is the most common reason why people seek credit cards. Along with general shopping benefits, a shopping credit card can also be packed with a few other benefits such as domestic lounge access, milestone benefits, etc.
Fuel Credit Cards- As the name suggests, fuel credit cards offer extra benefits in the form of fuel surcharge waiver and bonus reward point earnings when you use them to refill your vehicle. Some banks have partnership with a brand of petrol pump and you can get benefits only when you refill at those stations whereas some banks offer benefits at all fuel pumps. The amount of surcharge waiver depends on the type of card you have.
Grocery Credit Cards- If you shop for groceries using your credit card, it is better to get a grocery credit card. These cards offer extra reward points or cash back at select supermarkets and departmental stores helping you save more on groceries. Just like shopping credit cards, grocery credit cards can also offer some other privileges like milestone benefits, lounge access, concierge facility, etc. At the same time, there may be other credit cards that offer grocery rewards as additional benefit over and above a focused benefit.
Entertainment Credit Cards- For those who love to go to movies, concerts and events, entertainment credit cards are a great option. These cards offer extra rewards and cash back when you pay for movie ticket booking. Some of these cards are co-branded with platforms like BookMyShow. Usually, the offers on entertainment credit cards keep changing so you must stay updated with the latest offers on your card to make the most of it.
Co-branded Credit Cards- Some credit cards are co-branded with airline, hotel, store or other brands. When you shop at their partner brands, extra rewards and cash back will be offered to the user. An example of co-branded credit card is Air India SBI Signature Credit Card. It gives you extra benefits when you book Air India Flight Tickets. Complimentary access to Air India’s Frequent Flyer Program- Flying Returns adds to the co-branded benefits.
Rewards Credit Cards- Credit cards that offer extra rewards than usual are known as rewards credit cards. Such cards may also offer bonus reward points as milestone benefits when you reach a particular spending level. Bonus rewards may be offered as welcome benefit as well. For example, Citi Bank Rewards Credit Card offers 1 reward point for every ₹ 125 spent on the card. It offers up to 2,500 bonus reward points as welcome benefit and 300 bonus reward points on reaching monthly spends of ₹ 30,000. Such credit cards can be really useful for those who frequently use their cards for shopping, dining, etc.
Cashback Credit Cards- Some leading banks offer cashback credit cards that provide instant cashback on certain types of cards. Citi Bank Cashback Credit Card and HDFC MoneyBack Credit Card are the two most popular cashback credit cards. Cash back can be availed in two forms- either a portion of the amount spent will be directly reversed into your credit card account or you will earn rewards and you can convert it into direct statement credit.
Kisan Credit Cards- A relatively new addition to the types of credit cards offered by leading market players, Kisan credit cards in India are provided to rural farmers in India so that they can get access to credit at preferred interest rates. Mostly, Kisan credit cards are offered by public sector banks to help farmers avail credit at reasonable rates and through organized channels.
Student Credit Cards- The student credit card market in India is still in its nascent stage but banking on the probability of growth in the not so distant future. Some card issuers have started introducing these. These cards are on offer only to students who are 18 or older and enrolled in full time education at an institute.
