2 June 2002 - the great Osborne bodega tour

Good morning!  Buenos Dias!

Yesterday my family and I had the Ernest Hemingway experience as in "The Sun Also Rises" when we saw a bullfight at Sanlucar de Barrameda.  Although El Puerto de Santa Maria has a bullring, there were no bullfights scheduled until at least the 5th or 6th June 2002.  My father had an appointment with some contractors at NAVSTA in nearby Rota, but not until Monday the 3rd June.  That day we had planned to visit the Osborne bodega where sherry is still produced, as well as Arcos de la Frontera where I had visited back in 1976 or so.  We ended that night in Rota and ate at an Argentine steak house before retiring for the night.

We woke up about 8 AM and went down to breakfast around 8:45 AM.  The breakfast menu items were about the same as in Ceuta, and was included in the overnight cost.  About 9:30 AM we left the hotel to go to the Osborne bodegas.  We were in the first tour group that would go through the production line and taste a sample of one of the sherries.  The building was a long one-story building and I noticed between the arches of the building the letters "OSBORNE" in an old serifed Roman letter font.  One of the walls had twelve barrels on both sides of the front gate.  Sherry production is similar to white wine viticultural processes, but more yeast is used.  The liquid is filtered out and put into barrels, and the spent yeast is a byproduct thereof.  One dessert that can be made from the yeast, is "tocino de cielo" which takes egg yolks and sherry yeast, and makes for a tasty dessert the consistency of a thick custard like a doubly thick flan.  Yum!  It has however a high calorical content, so it should be eaten only on occasion.  We saw the tour guide take a long dipper to put into a barrel to take liquid out and pour it into a glass.  We saw the difference between the dry and the creme sherries.  Creme sherries have a much richer flavor than dry sherry, which is more or less concentrated Riesling with a 15.0 % ABV.  We ended the tour with a small taste.  We went to have a quick snack thereafter to reduce the effect of the sherry.  And let's not forget what Gareth Hale said about the generous Spanish hospitality!

After we left El Puerto de Santa Maria, we went on the A-2002 to Lomopardo, north on the AP-4 and farther on A-382 to Arcos de la Frontera.  That place has a very high elevation, and driving in downtown was a bit scary due to the narrow roads.  The place we went was near Plaza de Cabildo.  Back in 1976 my father took a photo of me at the eastern end, trying to stick my head through the bars.  I almost fell down the steep cliff, but luckily that did not happen.  

We drove back to the hotel for some rest.  Then we drove to Rota for a few drinks.  We thought about the times that we lived from 1974 to 1978 on Calle de Jerez in the Valdelagrana district, on the south part of El Puerto de Santa Maria.  We knew two families that lived just off route CA-603, both fathers working on the NAVSTA base as my father, that we had visited five, six or seven times between 1974 and 1978.  At least one time I rode on a motorcycle on the CA-603 with one of the sons old enough to drive a motorcycle.  It was quite a thrill ride at maybe five or six years old.  

About 8 PM we drove to an argentine steak restaurant.  It was called El Gaucho and was located at Avenida Fuentebravia 36.  It still has the big sign "Parrilla Argentina", so the beefsteaks must be good.  There have to be at least fifty different menu items, including chicken and fish, also iberian ham, from the photos I saw of El Gaucho.  I had something similar to an 8 ounce / 240 g beef steak, a baked potato and seasonal grilled vegetables including summer squash.  For dessert, I had to order the tocino de cielo, and it was very delicious - in August 2017 I took a photo of a similar serving.  We went through two bottles of red wine.  My brother opted out of the wine and we asked him to drive us back to the hotel.  He got us back home just fine.

Tomorrow we will go shopping and my father will go to a meeting on the NAVSTA base, and I think Wednesday we will go to Carmona after seeing an equestrian show.  I hope you will join me then.

Claudia De la Cruz (Presidential Candidate) is a mother, popular educator, community organizer and theologian. Being at the nexus of many different projects, organizations and social movements, Claudia connects different groups of people to link and merge struggles together in the overarching fight for justice. Born in the South Bronx to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic, she was nourished by the Black and Caribbean working class communities of the Bronx and Washington Heights in the 1980s and 90s. At an early age, she was already questioning the conditions of poverty, violence, and oppression in her neighborhood, and what she saw and experienced served as her first entry point to understanding working class consciousness. When she was 13, Claudia began her political organizing work at her home church—Iglesia Episcopal Santa Maria (later the Iglesia San Romero de Las Américas–UCC), grounding her work on principles of liberation theology. She actively participated in campaigns to free political prisoners; to get the U.S. Navy out of Vieques, Puerto Rico; to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba; for the freedom of Palestine; against police terror—to name a few. In high school, she became a peer educator, conducting workshops on reproductive health and safe sex at community hubs and progressive churches, particularly for youth in the Bronx. It was through this work and her experiences as a working class Black Caribbean young woman that she understood there was only one solution to our collective problems: to fight for a better future, a socialist future

Karina Garcia (VP Candidate) is a Chicana organizer and popular educator who has been fighting for a better world since she was 17 years old as a high school student in California. From El Barrio in New York City to the border areas of Texas, she has helped lead campaigns against landlord abuses, wage theft, and police brutality, as well as fights for reproductive justice, immigrants rights and student financial aid reform. She is a founder of the Justice Center en El Barrio in New York City and is a member of the Central Committee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Karina’s father migrated to the U.S. from Mexico when he was just 16 years old, and the will of working-class immigrants like him to survive and thrive inspired her to take on life with determination. This served her well when Karina received a full scholarship to study at Columbia University. She moved across the country by herself, knowing that she had to seize upon every opportunity to give back—a single year of tuition was the equivalent of her family's entire household income. As soon as she arrived, she joined every conceivable progressive organization on campus. She led struggles to expand financial aid for low-income students, for immigrant and worker rights, and to speak out against the Iraq war. In 2006, her activism received national attention when she led a campaign to confront and shut down the anti-immigrant fascist militia, the Minuteman Project. When Karina took a semester off to do a speaking tour in California, she met with high school and college students to keep building the movement for immigrant rights. That same year, she joined the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Graduating with a degree in Economics, Karina went on to become a New York City high school math teacher. After school, she advised a student group that protested against budget cuts, the Iraq war, police brutality and anti-immigrant laws. In 2012, she moved into a national organizing position for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice where she worked for nearly a decade training immigrant women and working-class Latina activists in New York, Texas, Virginia and Florida.

Tag 56: Von El Puerto de Santa Maria nach Zahora

Es kühlt nachts nur noch auf 18 Grad ab, so daß wir selbst die Sommerschlafsäcke nicht mehr schließen.

Auf guten Radwegen geht es in einem großen Bogen um die Bucht und das Marschland von Cadiz. Wir sehen wieder Flamingos und einige Salinen.

In Chiclana de la Frontera kommen wir an der Bodega Velez vorbei, wo im antiken Verkaufsraum ein paar Männer ein Glas zu sich nehmen. Wir gesellen uns dazu und kaufen eine Flasche Oloroso (Sherry) als Souvenir. Danach suchen wir ein schattiges Plätzchen für unsere Mittagsrast.

Weiter geht es durch zwei zu dieser Jahreszeit sehr ruhigen Badeorte mit Hotels, Ferienhäusern und Appartmenthäusern sowie Golfplätzen bis nach Conil de la Frontera. Dieser Ort mit seinen weissen Häusern und verwinkelten Gassen ist sehr hübsch, im Sommer aber sicher voll mit Touristen.

Danach überrascht uns eine sehr karge Landschaft. Der Radweg neben der Straße ist super und so gelangen wir ans Cap Trafalgar, wo die berühmte Seeschlacht stattfand.

Der anvisierte Campingplatz hat, wie andere auch, allerdings geschlossen und so fahren wir 3 km zurück zu einem anderen. Beim Kochen ist unsere Kartusche plötzlich leer und so essen wir in einem Lokal zu Abend.

Wir sind noch 56 km von unserem Ziel Tarifa entfernt.

Tagesleistung: 80 km in 5,5 Std

ESTA ECOMOMIA ES UN ATENTADO CONTINUO y en el otro lado SOY MARICA AMERICANO Y ME GUSTA BIN LADEN SEXUALMENTE jaja..frente a EL CORTE INGLES de NUEVOS MINISTERIOS o junto a TORRE WINDSOR=familia real británica ..incendiada en VISPERAS de día d SAN VALENTIN de 2005 x lo q EL CORTE INGLES no pudo entregar miles de pedidos en Flores)..al q le cegaba el SOL cuando hice la foto al irme al ESTADIO BERNABEU para intentar colarme en la Rueda de Prensa de dimisión de CAMACHO como hice, Benjamín Antonio Moreno Silva o SMAB (sus iniciales AL REVES) q vivía en el Barrio de SAN JUAN BAUTISTA donde hacían las PANKARTAS los denominados PANKAHACKERS y el Sevillano José SAZ a los q conocí por la tarde de ese 7-7-04 (=61 cumple de mi padre y 6to aniversario de la muerte de mi abuelo SALVADOR q también lo era de mi primo ISRAEL REINA a cuya madre la cambiaron el apellido LOPEZ por el de la casera BELGA "HUGGELMAN" al darla en adopción ficticia para luego quedarse el piso de c/VERONICA ,13) así como a la hija del embajador de ALBANIA una tal IRINDA q me dijo q era CATOLICA pero que se dejaba FOLLAR jaja..

X cierto..comi en PORTO CRISTO frente a tu CATAMARAN en mi 1er dia en MALLORCA (julio 2022) tras llegar en una SCOOTER desde el puerto de PALMA donde luego una TORMENTA desatraco un Cruzero como si fuera un BARCO DE PAPEL=Cd de DAVID DE MARIA que incluye HE DEJADO DE CREER en los mitos adorados

Cuando hace casi una década Tangerine Flavour comenzaban a dar sus primeros pasos dentro del universo musical ninguno de sus integrantes pensaba hasta donde podría llegar esta aventura. Miles de kilómetros en la carretera, conciertos de todo tipo y para toda clase de público, festivales, entrevistas, todo ello visto ahora con el poso del tiempo hace ver lo que ha crecido el proyecto. Desde hoy, Tangerine Flavour tienen una nueva muesca en su revolver gracias a la salida de ¨Space Cowboy¨, el tercer disco de estudio de los madrileños.

Y como un tercer disco no se saca todos los días, pues en este caso Tangerine Flavour se ha liado la manta a la cabeza y nos presenta un disco doble conformado por veinte canciones. Un rara Avis para los tiempos que corren y que no hacen más que confirmar a la banda como uno de esos proyectos que siguen respetando a la música. Space Cowboy ha sido producido por el mítico Paco Loco y masterizado por el ganador del Latin Grammy Mario G. Alberni y que sale bajo el sello MusicHunters Records. 

Tangerine Flavour se están caracterizando por mostrarnos su lado más versátil y maduro. En estas 20 canciones la banda recorre todas sus facetas y estilos. Canciones de rock clásico, country y americana music se unen al blues y soul y a piezas experimentales y de tintes jazz. El inglés predomina, pero también aparece el castellano, el portugués e incluso el francés, poniendo de manifiesto ese lado multicultural del grupo con integrantes de varios continentes.

Más de 25 fechas para presentar ¨Space Cowboy¨, lo que será su tercer disco, pero también para repasar los temas de sus anteriores trabajos. El Space Cowboy Tour 2024 visitará lugares que la banda no había visitado como Puerto de Santa Maria (donde se ha grabado este nuevo trabajo) o Tafalla, volverá a ciudades de muy buen recuerdo para Tangerine Flavour como Murcia, Logroño o Lugo y tendrá una fecha estelar como la del 19 de abril en la sala El Sol de Madrid, en la que será la presentación oficial del disco en la capital. En esta nueva serie de conciertos la banda madrileña tendrá la suerte de contar en varios de los shows de artistas con un talento enorme, como son Abi Gale o Javi Tejero. A esta lista faltan por añadir las citas veraniegas en festivales, las cuales serán desveladas en breve. Para que nadie se quede sin poder asistir a los conciertos, las entradas de toda la gira de Tangerine Flavour están a la venta en el siguiente enlace. Este nuevo movimiento de shows en directo de Tangerine Flavour sirve para dar continuidad a la primera gira que la banda hizo por Estados Unidos, en la cual tocaron en lugares tan míticos como Austin, Memphis o Nashville. Estos conciertos sirvieron como para que la banda juzgara como sonaban en directo algunas de las canciones que desde hoy se pueden disfrutar en este nuevo disco.
