❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?

My memory is very bad, so my favorite thing I've written in the last year is the fourth wall break in high road, but particularly:

I killed Kasimir so that I can pull out the piece of my heart that loves him and show it to you, smear it across the page: X marks the spot.

Or maybe this bit from the deep:

In the year of the great fever, Barnaby and Evangeline Fortescue, Marcie Jones, and a wide swath of the Bruzard family all perished. They were taken too young and left their survivors to carry on as they could. Zillah became a mother, Barnaby became an orphan, Kasimir became a widower. Edvard, safe in a house built on murder, seethed, roiled, became a whirlwind.

In general, this line from May in Change All My Plans was very cathartic to write:

"I'm not the bad guy," May snapped. "I'm a person who's doing her job. Any attempt you think I'm making to come between you and Coulson is your imagination, and your jealousy is not my problem. If you want a villain for your story, pick somebody else."

And as we always like, here's something from something that hasn't been posted:

"Oh, you know," Corazon says vaguely. "Kinky is using ropes, weird is using a whole pirate ship."

🔮 Any advice for writers working through burnout or writer’s block?

There's a lot of answers to this, but the one I have that I think most people wouldn't say is: Don't set restrictions on yourself. I know for me, if I say "okay, this week, I'm just not gonna write anything", I will feel like horseshit at the end, because even when I'm not making progress, it makes me feel better to jot things down. Some people respond really poorly to things like "I'll just write 100 words today and that will be enough." It's not worth ruining your own day; you are better off releasing those restrictions from yourself and letting your brain do what it will.

💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

I like tropes just in general; I really like the idea of iterating over and over on these things that we all agree exist as story components but also kind of all hate? I like all the various tropes that run on amnesia; I adore Battle Couple, Evil AU, and any other trope that works on making a character darker or more intense than they are in canon. I also just really love a good stupid sex farce.

Top 5 things you are proud of writing this year or top 5 things you are currently working on?

things I am proud of writing this year:

in no particular order:

- the stories you've been told have made you brave (Night Vale/Umbrella Academy, Allison was born and grows up in NV) -- it's nice to get something off my WIP list that was sitting there for a while, and honestly? Pretty happy with my Cecil voice in this, which is hard for me. Also with some of the ways Night Vale is, well, Night Vale in it.

- the future is brighter than any flashback (OxBlades, Kasimir/Barnaby future fic) -- on another note entirely, it's nice not have something that's totally unrelated to prompts, fests, or other people's wants linger on my WIP list for ages before writing it! I started this basically as soon as I had the idea, and that's rare for me, and while it did linger a month or so before being finished, it was nice to just... write something easily.

- Something In the Air is Giving Me Bad Ideas (Oxventure prime, polyguild) -- first of all, I'm usually happy with my Chocobox output. It's my yearly exchange and that's at least partly because I'm generally pleased with what I write for it. And '[x] made them do it' is not a trope I've ever really tired before. Even though I couldn't manage to include the actual smutty bits, I'm happy with the result.

- started in my chest and ended in my throat (The Umbrella Academy, Ben/Siren!Allison) -- partly I'm just glad I got some stuff out for MerMay, if not everything I wanted! Partly I just... like this? I struggled to hit some of the emotional notes I was going for, and I feel like it worked out in the end, and I'm glad I stuck with it.

- in the hope of open hands (OxBlades, Kasimir/Edvard missing scene) -- I don't know what to say, I just think this is one of my personal favorites of my own stories, period. I'm still not thrilled by the last couple lines, but I hit all the notes I wanted to on Kasimir's distance from people and slow thawing towards the group and the building of feelings, and I feel like I hit both of the characters right on the first attempt, and it's just. one I'm really happy with. I'm better at seeing the flaws in my own stories, and there's very few fics of my own that I feel strongly would be well-worn favorites of mine if someone else had written them. This is one of them.

things I am currently working on, in which 'top 5' is defined as the five I most want to get finished and post, all titles subject and even likely to change:

- turpentine & patches -- The Umbrella Academy, Diego/Vanya pregnancy-and-get-back-together fic. I have been working on this over a year now and I WILL finish it in 2022 dammit.

- as if you're seeing light for the very first time -- OxBlades, Fallen London AU, Kasimir/Edvard with appearances by the others. I have a Plot for this one! And I'm just having fun with sliding the Blades tone just those few notches over to hit FL. - no working title, OxBlades teenage Kasimir fic with largely one-sided Kasimir/Zillah -- largely because I refuse to let losing the first attempt stall this fic entirely when I was greatly enjoying it. I WILL write this damn thing.

- lord, send me a mechanic, if I'm not beyond repair - The Umbrella Academy/Bare: A Pop Opera crossover. Another one I've just been working on for so long that I wanna finish the thing! And I am slowly nearing the scene I had most fixed in my head starting this, and I wanna get there.

- the architects only drew blanks -- The Bifrost Incident, Sigyn/Loki timeloop fic. I have been working on this even longer than the two I mentioned above. I keep saying every year I'll finish it for Halloween around early October, and I keep not doing that.
