I don't see them following the Earth 8 story timeline just (ew) simply because that ruins the theme of breaking away from canon and doing your own thing. That story is already set in E8 as its own story so if they were to have them end the same way and follow...that'd be redundant and unoriginal

Will it be canon probably, but I don't think the writers would make them follow another canon when the last movie handled the topic of not following a predetermined canon

(Something similar played out in the comics where Gwen sees Earth 8 right?)

yes, the gist of sitting in a tree is that gwen and miles encounter an alternate future where they're a famous supercouple and they consider getting together. the point of sitting in a tree is that when gwen visits earth-8 (miles never does), and sees that future and that family they have, she isn't thrilled. and yes, she instigates the kiss, but she immediately shuts it down, backpedals, and says it was wrong, that she was only confused, that they are not their earth-8 counterparts and they shouldn't have to be like them. then they never have a romantic interaction again.

but. nobody remembers that ending. all anyone remembers of siat is the bait and switch kiss at the start of the event (which, if you read the comic, you find out miles is exaggerating to show off to his friends) and the ~oh, maybe someday we can be together~ tease at the end that goes nowhere. if anything, i think the writers think the problem with sitting in a tree was that they didn't get together, and they're gonna 'fix' it.

one would think that they'd stay consistent to their themes and do something original but the inclusion of the gwiles plot to begin with is a huge contradiction of that. break away from canon, oh, but if you want a gwen stacy to be your girlfriend, sure, you can have that, have your cake and eat it too! do your own thing miles, but not you gwen, you're His Girlfriend. it's kataang 2.0. it's 'we know this isn't what the story needs, but it's our wish fulfillment, so we'll do it anyway.'

drawing from the earth8 story feels in line with their thinking. sitting in a tree was clearly a massive influence on these movies. it's probably what made them put gwen in itsv to begin with, the 'miles needs to save his dad' plot clearly comes from there, and it wouldn't surprise me if they try to frame the spiderverse movies as the origin story for how earth8 gwiles get together.

do i think they'll end the movie with a flashforward to gwiles getting married and having kids? i'm 50/50 but i'm staying pessimistic-- remember in atsv how the movie literally smashes their faces together so they can look at mayday's baby photos, and there's a moment where they make eye contact? and how they make a point of showing gwen watch miles rescue and carry little kids? feels like they want the audience to imagine them being parents together. remember the sunset swinging scene where gwen introduces herself as his neighborhood's spider-woman? there was also a cut storyboard of them photobombing a wedding in the place of the bride and groom. remember that the emphasis on gwen belonging in HIS world and getting the approval of HIS family? and remember that the clocktower scene is about gwen wishing they could have a happy ending, and miles telling her they will. i doubt they'll end on anything less than 'gwiles will be together forever.' and nothing says forever quite like babies ever after. my big fear is that this'll end on the writers framing the sv movies as the earth 8 origin story.
