Hmm, i just wasn’t going to class cause i have really serious sleep problems. Like, i can’t sleep at night and i’m already on trazadone which is supposed to help me sleep but doesn’t work right. So james prescribes me ambien too. I tell him my anxiety is going even crazier than usual he prescribes me clonazepam. So now I’m taking ambien, trazadone, and clonazapem for sleep. I’ve always been really overly fatigued during the day but now i just can’t wake up, at all. I am sleeping till five (ball-park) no matter how many alarms i set or when i go to sleep. So i’m sleeping through class and being late for work. So he takes away my clonnie and my PRECIOUS ambien, and now i’m on Laraxpem? lonazepam? And i’m actually not tired all day again! But i am not falling asleep at night 🙃 and also, i am still way too fatigued way too early in the day (i woke up at 1:00 and i was dead tired by 7:00). ANYWAYS. I might do a sleep study soon so. We’ll see how it goes.

Uhm, uh, the princess switch movies, 12 dates of christmas, A christmas kiss, Dash & Lilly (not a movie), A cinderella story (the christmas one), Christmas Cupid…. There’s more uhm but i can’t think of them rn.

update!

so sorry i haven’t posted in a while i’ve actually been busy with school, but the good thing is i just finished my first semester of uni! my experience was…eh lmao (here comes a rant, expand if you don’t mind me complaining about shit)

so i don’t want to talk shit about my school because i love it. i love my campus, it’s the only bilingual college in my uni and it’s nice, quiet, and super gorgeous. a lot of the students here are native french speakers, and a lot of the profs are too so in september i thought “wowowow can’t wait to fully immerse myself in my target language!!” and it’s nice and all, i’m glad i live in canada so i don’t have to travel to do that, but here’s the first issue: i completely overestimated my speaking skills :)

my program is a bilingual honours BA in sociology. which means i’m expected to take courses from my domain in french, in addition to fsl courses and gen ed french courses and i’m dying.

with regards to the fsl courses, i did a placement test when i was applying to this college and they put me in level 2000 (which is supposed to be like a B2 level but my prof speaks very little english, so she teaches it as an advanced course instead of intermediate. which i wasn’t expecting.) she wasn’t a great prof as well, like she never answered emails from students and it was near impossible to reach her to ask questions, and even if i could ask her questions she would give me vague answers or tell me to ask someone else because she couldn’t explain things to me in a way that i understood :/ if i got something wrong or make a mistake, she didn’t explain it to me, she says things like “that phrase isn’t right” and “don’t say that it sounds stupid” and i just don’t like people who teach like that

tbh it’s my fault i haven’t been practising, like in high school i was really good at french only because i had easy teachers who didn’t really care about speaking much (does anyone else who goes to school in canada experience this sloppy french education? like, i’ve been learning passe compose since grade 4. we don’t practise what we’re taught, it’s just conjugating verbs till your eyes bleed and if you ever want to dream of speaking like a native you have to figure that out on your own :/)

i nearly got a C in this class. a C. i’m in the 70s. and tbh i know it’s uni and i know it’s hard but it does make me a little depressed (i feel like studyblr does make it seem like we have to be good at everything we’re studying, but that’s not always the case like not everyone can be an A student). does sting a bit though that i was an A student and now i’m just…a bitter mess lol

the only reason why i was placed in 2000 is because core french in high school makes you great at taking tests, but doesn’t do anything to help you in the real world where you’ll be faced with functioning on the same level as native speakers, and that’s something i didn’t realize. dw i know i can get better though, learning is a process after all

with regards to my other classes, i’m taking a biology-type thing in french (which is more like nutrition and the human body so it’s interesting) and tbh it’s not as bad as the fsl. since it’s pretty much bio, it’s easy because scientific terms are almost always similar in french to what they are in english, so they’re easy to memorize. also, this is the one class where i got to make friends with a native speaker! she’s from the caribbean (st. martin island, they speak french there) and honestly she’s really sweet and doesn’t think i’m stupid haha

then my last french course this semester was a literature thing where we read Les identites meurtrieres (too lazy to change my keyboard for accents lol). idk as a sociology major it was interesting to read an abstract novel about identity and radicalism and shit but, all these philosophical terms and advanced idioms that i didn’t learn and had to because my prof wanted us to debate them in front of the class? naaaaah man. also, why do all french authors write in very long, obnoxious, boring sentences, with lots of commas like this one, instead of breaking it up into smaller sentences that would make it easier for someone like me to read, while including preposterous, exceptional, and laborious vocabulary, and never seem to get to the fucking point? literally though, this whole novel/book/essay thing was full of chapters of things that could’ve been said in a few phrases at most. kind of like this rant lol

finally, i feel as though i didn’t get much time to focus on language learning this semester because of the stress that comes with first year first semester. like, i could have done better in french but i did swap a lot of my study time with doing statistics problems instead, because i’m bad at math and that was a required course for me this year. it’s kind of an opportunity cost, i had to give up some of my goals (i wanted to at least improve my french level this semester but it only seems like i went backwards) in order to, you know, not die from the huge pile of other work i had to do (kill me)

in the end, first semester was lonely and disappointing but i’ll definitely work harder the next one. this break, i’m re-evaluating my goals and trying to make up for the ones i didn’t get to complete this time around. pffft this whole post is me just hating on my french classes and i feel really whiny and annoying, like why can’t i just wake up one day fluently speaking croissant plz bless me with this dear langblr gods i need that to happen at this point
