Vow or Never
aka Bridal AU
aka “this started as a shitpost and we’re not sorry” by Type & Wormy
Vow or Never (Bridal AU) is a modern/contemporary “slice of life” AU, featuring an ensemble cast pulled from UTMV and having basically nothing to do with Undertale the video game by Toby Fox.
The main plot follows the interactions between twin brothers, Dream and Nightmare. Nightmare is a divorce lawyer and CEO of Nim & Son law. Dream is the owner and manager of Vow or Never, a high-end bridal shop that specializes in wedding planning. For four years the brothers have been estranged from one another due to unresolved traumatic events surrounding and involving the death of their mother. However, situations that unfold over the course of the AU force the twins back in contact with one another, and, for better or for worse, draw them back into each other’s lives.
Main Cast
Main Plot
When he fails in every way at being a lawyer, Cross- a former member of Nightmare’s law firm- is relocated to work for Nightmare’s twin brother, Dream, at Vow or Never, the family’s high-end bridal store. The transfer is meant to remove stress from Nightmare, who can no longer put up with Cross’ bleeding-heart incompetence. However, the arrangement merely serves to bring Dream back into Nightmare’s life (after 4 years of being estranged- as well as an entire childhood spent in opposition to one another). Now in their 30s, the twins are forced to reckon with their frosty relationship with each other, even as Dream navigates a burgeoning romantic relationship with Cross, Nightmare finds himself fostering feelings for his right-hand-man, Killer, and no one’s feelings stay neatly within their contained relationships.
Meanwhile, Blue- a longtime member of Dream’s bridal store staff- is increasingly at a loss with the hot-and-cold treatment from Error (a fellow staff-member) and Error’s long-term boyfriend Ink (an internet-famous influencer). Pushed to the brink by their overt hostility (Error) and overblown flirting (Ink), Blue finally confronts the two about his feelings, and finds himself unexpectedly drawn into a mess of unresolved trauma involving complicated exes, misinterpreted connections, and things that were maybe better left in the past… while simultaneously discovering that by starting to date Ink and Error, he has stumbled into a relationship with the absolute loves of his life.
All of this unfolds against the backdrop of preparing for Sans and Red’s (Blue’s lifelong friends- and exes) wedding.
Bridal AU is a BEI (BlueErrorInk) and eventual KCRM (KillerCrossDreamNightmare) AU, with bits of Kustard, DustyRottenCrops, SpicyHoney, and [spoilers] thrown in for flavour. The basic relationships for Part 1 break down into:
This fic won’t be written in chronological order, and will be broken up into many (many) drabbles, short series, and one-shots. The rough timeline for Part 1 is as follows:

Buck was just in the middle of making dinner after a hard day's work.
He wasn't really expecting it to get interrupted in such a spectacularly suck way.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buck couldn’t help but sigh, finally resting after a hard day’s work. Taking care of the chickens and geese was hard enough of a chore on its own, but Paps had needed extra help manning the harvesters that day. They had a full harvest of wheat that year and outside workers were hard to come by, seeing as how he and his brother were monsters.
Wiping a bead of sweat from his brow, Buck padded to the kitchen, readying the last shores of his energy to whip up a quick supper. Paps would be sore and more than tired after running the fields all day, wrapping up the sheaves of wheat for the inevitable market trip.
Thankfully, since their magic imbued the ground and made the crops grow a bit better than the soil would usually allow, the humans in the town a good 5 miles over would buy up their stock like it was going out of style.
The sweet apples in the summer, the stalks of wheat and corn in the fall. Honey all year round since Buck had set up the garden house, and plenty of homegrown veggies for everyone involved.
He cracked a few eggs into the warmed skillet, listening to the sizzle as he stirred a batter for drop biscuits. Dropping a handful of cheddar into the cooking eggs, he set the tray of biscuits into the oven, setting a timer as he got the sausage out of the fridge.
Paps had thought about getting pigs and cows, more than their one faithful brown cow out back. Bessie made enough milk for them, but she didn’t produce enough to profit from.
Which was fine. Buck loved her, Paps loved her, and that was what mattered. She was part of the family, same as the hens, same as the cocky little son of a bitch rooster, and same as the moody geese.
He had nearly finished the meal when Paps finally came through the front door, taking his overalls off as he headed for the bathroom to wash up. Buck plated up, equal portions for the two of them, and padded across the creaky wooden floor to set the plates on the table.
Which was exactly when the sound of a low whine came from the back door.
He would have assumed it was the wind, if it hadn’t been silent as the grave near all day. A storm could have been brewing, but as a low voice shushed the first one, he grimaced.
There was every possibility it was a prank; the local teenagers tended to roam the fields looking either for work or fun, and usually it was the latter. Still, the first one had sounded like he was in pain… and Buck was no sadist.
Setting the plates fully on the table, he grabbed the shotgun from the wall, a necessary evil after his and Pap’s magic had mostly faded into the ground around them. He’d never used it, not unless he fired it into the air to scare off the coyotes, but if it was more than a couple of teenagers looking for a good time, he was damn well going to be ready.
The floor creaked ominously under him as he made his way to the screen door, eyelights peering out the window, only for his sockets to go wide as he caught sight of something he really wasn’t expecting.
Two skeletons, one with a wound through his coat and a crack in his skull that made Buck’s ache with sympathy, and one with determination in his eyes, a hood drawn over his face.
He didn’t give either of them time to move as he rounded the corner of the door, gun at his side as he glared at them both. “Who’re you and what the fuck do you want?”
The one with the air of death around him glared right back. “My friend. He’s hurt. Help him.”
Buck snorted. “And why would I do that?” He had no idea who these two were, or if this was some sort of trap. There could be others waiting just out of sight to attack.
Glaring harder, if that was possible, he raised the shirt of the other, ignoring the cry of pain. It was disturbing, but not as shocking as the absolute mess the guy’s rib cage was.
“Alright.” Buck muttered, waving them towards the door. “Git inside.”
As they slowly moved to do as he said, the hurt one ending up a lot bigger than Buck had anticipated, he wondered just what he was getting himself into.
