After Herr Silber met an untimely end recently, thanks to an extremely unwise attempt at nomming on a stray rubber glove? (Would have done much better to stick to that cat food. 😩)

Our new floor cleaning buddy finally arrived today!

Herr Silber preferred to lurk against the wall under the kitchen table, but the new guy quite specifically wanted to stay out in the open. So, at least for the moment, they've set up camp out in the hallway. Right next to some floor crud, of course.

This one is completely app controlled (via WiFi), and of course was a bit of a PITA to get set up at the start. Still getting used to it, but they had a bit of a test run after a charging nap.

So far it looks like this one should do a better job, if anything, even without trying the damp cleaning function yet. (Which is an extra good thing, considering the price difference!)

Bigger dust cup, and they can keep going much longer between naps. With the optical sensors and way better sense of direction, our new friend has also had a much easier time finding their way back home to sleep it off. Hasn't been needing anywhere near the level of drunksitting and ditect intervention so far, even though they're still getting used to the layout around here. Hopefully they'll remember it pretty well before long.

A relief to get some robo-help with the floors again around here, that's for sure! 😄 Still need to get to know this one better before deciding on a name.

We have noticed that many probable retirement albums end up being released after the lengthy hiatuses, so we can't really call them the finales, but one does ask oneself about their deals. For instance, ///CODENAME: dustsucker was Bark Psychosis' follow-up to their incredible debut. They did take a lot of time perfecting the LP, but nothing happened since then. I assume Mr. Sutton's work as a producer – his project does present us with someone who knows a way around a studio – causes him to move away from Bark Psychosis, yet we shouldn't be sad over the event. If ///CODENAME: dustsucker ends up being their last disc, we should be glad, since they finished their careers with a positively puzzling collection of – I use the term here tentatively – songs.

I thought I found an English word that’s as weirdly on the nose as the German dustsuckers and handshoes but then I remembered that “Lighthouse” in German is just Lighttower

Our task today was to replace the decade-old out-of-date @nascarhall #logo plate in the #hallofhonor. The old plate had a crown to it, which turned out to be a feature of the #thinset. Needing a flat surface, we created the #stonedrone, a #rockflattener on rails with leveling feet for height adjustment. Being in a room with large #artifacts we can’t clean, #dustabatement was a large concern. First, we built a #dustsucker, then we bought a #tent and cut out the floor. A bunch of #maskingtape and multiple #vacuums, some #grinding, some #cleaning and boom! We glued it down, cleaned it up, caulked the edge seam and rolled the #tools to the #truck. Nein Herr Silber, NEIN! 😩 Bad dustsucker*!!!

I swear, this thing is like a dog who is utterly determined to raid the cat food at the slightest opportunity.

Try to let him run around another room for a little while before it gets too late for the noise, while I do something in the kitchen. Turn my back for just a minute, so he trundles in to stick that greedy little robovac face straight into the cat plates AGAIN!

I love the way he also shoves them all around the floor in the process, knocking kibble all over the damned place in the meantime. Which he then refuses to pick up, preferring to send the bits skittering around the floor with those brushes. 😒 Good thing the broom and dustpan-onna-stick were right there on standby

Seriously though, I usually pick up those plates whenever he's expected to putter around the kitchen. But, this time I was trying to keep him out of there for just a few minutes, and didn't bother. My bad!

So yeah, rescue the cat plates and send Herr Silber off into the living room. So, who comes sneaking straight back toward those same plates?

Bark Psychosis' ///CODENAME: dustsucker was released after a long wait. Some record are this way, i.e. they show their musicians at the end of their lengthy pause. Of course, the things aren't always that clear cut. For instance, David Sylvian's Dead Bees On A Cake was his first solo album after 12 years, though he did keep himself busy with a variety of projects. Still, his comeback presents us with him alone and – this is my opinion – I don't think there's much difference between the methodology of the works on his own and his collaborations. Lend an ear to Dead Bees On A Cake to hear what I mean. He always surrounds himself with a great collection of cooperators with the disc remaining another example of the fact.
