By the way, you can say you hate characters and STILL admit that they were abused or harassed. There's literally nothing wrong. Denying it or romanticizing it because of a strange kink of yours won't make your hate any less evident, trust me.

Rhaenyra was abused. She's continuously taken advantage of, and brushed away the moment she isn't needed anymore. And she experiences this first hand with her own father, who completely ruins motherhood for her when she grows up watching Aemma get impregnated and either miscarry or have the baby be stillborn or die in the cradle. If Viserys had been by her side as a supporter to her claim since the start, he wouldn't have gotten Aemma pregnant again and again in the pursuit of a male child. He wouldn't have married Alicent for the same reason. Even after, the only reason why he still stands by her side, and it's time the fandom accepts this, it's solely because of his grief and guilt, because Rhae is the only remnant of Aemma.

And there it starts. Firstly, groomed and left alone naked and alone by her uncle in a brothel. Secondly, slept with Criston Cole (although she did coerce him, that's still a literal TEENAGER) then she's married to a gay man and still approached super young by her new bodyguard and just one year later she's started giving birth to his children. (Side note: FUCK Rhaenyra x Harwin. FUCK with reverb. With hard K.)

And up to this point, most fan agree that she's had a shitty life, although I don't agree with some of her choices. (like her treatment of Criston Cole and the bastards, not because I'm some kind of bigot, but because passing bastards as trueborn in THAT precise world sets them up for failure, not being legally deserving of a thone DOES NOT mean me hating them. That's for another post.)

To top it all off, she meets her uncle again, and there starts the fanfic self insert. They have sex on a beach the day of Laena's funeral, the only one of the three wives he's ever been canonically loyal to (FUCK you writers) and fans think it's soulmates meeting again or sum shit. They subtly threaten Laenor to fake his death or actually die (that's what they were trying to do, cope harder) and marry mere days after the death of Laena.

Yes, all cute and romantic (for Dumbnyras twats) but literally, has it done anything good? For Rhaenyra or like, anyone else? It just brought Daemon closer to the line of succession. Literally. That's all the good it has done.

Fast forward to ep 10. How do I even start with this? Only Jace seems to be on Rhaenyra's side. It's clear he only obeys to Daemon out of fear and is scared to talk back to him. Meanwhile, he COMPLETELY disregards his wife's, and by his faction's loyalties, QUEEN's, orders, he ignores her wails of pain as she miscarries their daughter out of pure shock and grief for her father's death. He lashes out and chokes her on the same day and people still see him as the malewife to Rhaenyra's girlboss. They're always ready to do award-deserving mental gymnastic to justify this man.

"He was planning war because he wanted to distract himself!!!!" "He only choked Rhae because he was mad at Viserys, he'd never hurt her!!!!!!"

Anyone who can read this and argue that Alicent is envious/jealous or bitter, honestly needs to take the heart shaped sunglasses off, get off tumblr and Ao3, learn what media literacy is and start learning how to possess a crumble of it. To us it makes sense to synpathize with both, because we've seen the big picture. To Alicent, Rhaenyra gave her virtue to the man that almost killed her brother, and chose to believe she did not out of trust and maybe nostalgia for her friendship and easier times, only to have her father be blamed and taken away from her as a result.

She has four kids in the span of, how much? Five, six years? Seven at best? Helaena and Aemond are NINE MONTHS APART. Viserys didn't even let her rest after she gave birth to her daughter. And I'm convinced 100% that he kept her as Idk some whore he didn't need to pay for because it's stated that he never wanted Aegon but the son he butchered Aemma for. Why keep on bedding her and forcing children on her when you'd never get what you want from her?

Throughout the series she's called bitter and downright a c*nt for this and that reason. She tries convincing Viserys that Rhae's children are CLEARLY bastards and she's setting herself and them up for failure by committing treason and putting them on the throne? Nah, power hungry, jealous, bitter. She marries Helaena to Aegon as a last resort because she's Valyrian and probably would've received proposals worse than the ones Rhaenyra made that would eventually convince Viserys to give her away? Hates her daughter, abuser, shitty mom. Rhae's sons slit her son's eye out instead of running when they had the chance and she rightfully lashes out? Nah, crazy ass, for the dungeons. She gives money and moon tea to her son's rape victim to ensure she gets a way out and isn't forced to have a baby she doesn't want? Bruh, rape apologist. She goes to Aegon and RIGHTFULLY disciplines him? Abuser. Forced to show her feet to a rancid filthy man to know where her son is? Upholds the patriarchy, hypocrite. She convinces Aegon to start fighting for her family because it's either them or the Blacks and he needs to start putting his life together and fight for them, so she crowns him and makes him King? Treason, deserves death, long live the brothel queens.

Somehow, it is ALWAYS HER FAULT. And those few that admit how wronged she was make fun of her.

Beyond that, I think there are three options on this subject, either there was indeed racial prejudice in Rhaenyra (and even that does not take away from all the tragedy that she suffers and that the Team Blacks was better than Team Greens). Either she said it from a point of view completely biased by jealousy mixed with her psychosis having developed in the meantime. Although I don't like to compare Rhaenyra to Cersei, I have to say that Rhaenyra's dialogue on Nettles is very similar to that of Cersei on Brienne which... has nothing to do with racism as a result. Or maybe Eustace, a Greens supporter, simply made up or misrepresented what she said. We can't really be sure.

I also don't see what this question has with the last two asking about Daemon cheated on Rhaenyra or not.

Anyway... that doesn't stop the Blacks team from being better than the Greens ? Swear Daemyra shippers are the only ones whom can look at a man teach his niece who at the time was a minor by real standards and fantasy standards sex acts, and say he loved her. I was reading a fic where Daemyra popped up in the background and they had Daemon say “I’ve loved Rhaenyra since the time she was a girl” and it’s like no shit. Then again in the show it’s just so…. Like I can acknowledge that Matt and Mily had chemistry (which would’ve been great for a book!Daemyra where he is very cleary a groomer) but even then all their scenes had an underlying pervy feel to them. Also Daemon is always ABANDONING Rhaenyra when it counts. Instead of staying with her after the death of her brother and mother he goes out drinking and makes the “heir for a day” comment. Then ( knowing Dragonstone is the seat reserved for the heir) he takes possession of Dragonstone (which also could’ve lowered her standing as heir) and the dragon egg that Rhaenyra placed in the cradle of Baelon. Then he leaves her alone for three years fighting in what was technically an illegal war before coming back and trying to ruin her reputation in order to attain the throne. He does this by taking her a crown Princess into a whore house, ensures that she will be recognized, engages in light sexual content with her before leaving her ALONE in a whore house half naked. And the worse part? Not a single fuck was given. Then later on at her wedding she practically begs him to take her to Dragonstone and marry her. In response to this he marries another woman (who he also treat like shit R.I.P to book!Daemon and Laena). Fast forward ten years where they (on the day of his wife’s funeral) have sex on the beach (sex that didn’t even look pleasurable) and she wakes up ALONE. Mind you prior to the sex she’s essentially begging him to fuck her as well. Following him around like a lost dog. Then we once again have the begging for marriage only this time he accepts. Fast forward down the line he’s not showing any support really in Kings Landing (why didn’t he go with Rhaenyra to talk to Rhaenys) but yeah he killed a man for her so the fandom ate that shit up. Back on Dragonstone she experiences a still brith where she calls out and begs for him so she won’t be alone and he just doesn’t come(I’ve seen some people excuse this staying maybe he had trauma from Laena so I’m 60/40 on it) and then upon learning that she doesn’t want to immediately jump to WAR he chokes the shit out of her.

Their fans are special.

Even if you want to take out the obvious grooming or only want to focus on book canon, Daemon still ends up abandoning her after she ordered him to return back to her, saving another woman(Nettles) after she ordered her to be beheaded in her sleep, and then either offs himself or lives out his days with Nettles.

How they turned that into Daemon died to defeat her greatest enemy(which the text specifically states is Daeron and not Aemond) will never not be absolutely hilariously.

If you only want to consider the show as canon(why?), he’s physically abused her (and is allegedly going to do so again) and abandoned her on countless occasions (after seeing her beg for him to love her 23 million times) with no concern for her physical or mental well-being.

(The trauma excuse is a poor one when he chokes her out 5 seconds later. That is not how you respond to trauma or your brother dying).

Book canon, show canon, grooming, no grooming, it doesn’t matter. It’s a hot mess any way you slice it(which is why they start crying when you bring out the actual text).

I get morally ambiguous ships(all but one of my favorite ships fall into this category). Still, I don’t get shipping something where the guy outright does not care about whether the woman lives or dies and then claiming that those who aren’t deluded are the crazy ones. This shit is straight up pathetic.

Is Daemon and Rhaenyra kinda like Joker and Harley in period fantasy era? A dysfunctional relationship. Cause they look lovey dovey and the writers spoke about “honey moon era” which is something Paul Dini said too about Joker and Harley when she used to be a madly in love super villain. But that “aura” lasts very shortly, cause eventually things turn out BAD, for a reason or another. Remember Sara said they were trying to understand the nature of their bond? I think this is how writers is interpretating their relationship and is gonna portray that in the show. At apparence, a sort of love/care that is actually hiding abuse, phisical and emotional, the reasons of such behave though will be left to opened interpretations. The debate on feelings it's up to audience and even now that Joker and Harley broke up since long time, there are still people debating on Joker's feelings for Harley. Some who tell he loved her but can't love her normally cause is simply incapable of doing that, cause mentally unstable, or some people who say he never loved her and only used her as tool for his purposes. I think with Daemon will be the same. They wil keep this point vague till the end, to give audience the space to make their own idea on Daemon. (Included if he's cheating on her.) Matt said that too, GRRM lately spoke about his colorful and dark side, and for this reason i think they will never gonna confirm his feelings for Rhaenyra. It's gonna be up to interpretations of people and this is why Daemon is grey, cause what some people don't understand is that if Daemon is always good to Rhaenyra he wouldn't be grey, yeah ok he's evil with the Greens but they're his opponents. This is how I find out an anti-nettles tag exists of Tumblr people are so shallow minded and miss the point George's original story people really think just because these dumbass show runner decided the race-bend an entire group of characters for cheap brownie points of representation that it means Nettles no longer matters like no, it may no longer be about race just because the writers are trying to force feminism onto Rhaenyra's character but it's still about class. A low born orphan at just the age of 17 was capable of doing what dozens of well trained knights failed to do. She survived one of the biggest civil wars in Westeros history, she had one of the last surviving dragons of the dance (who cares who's the biggest, oldest, most shiny etc etc it was Nettles and her dragon that outlived them all in the end) AND she was capable if creating an entire culture around herself (the tribes could've easily over powdered her but instead chose to worship and respect her) mind you all she had was a dragon, she had no titles just her name. Also, she's a few of the very few characters in the books that show care and remorse, she mourned Jace someone she barely knew and cried for Driftmark despite having lived a life previously where she was mistreated and starving on the streets. I swear these Dumbnyra stans deserve their names (Dumbnyra), and just because some of us are pro-Nettles, it doesn't automatically make use of team Green, Team Green can kick rocks as well because they are such hypocrites, whining and complaining about how their fav characters were stripped of importance and reduced to a singular thing yet they turn around and strip Nettles's character as a gotcha moment towards to Dumbnyra stans, as if her relationship with Daemon is the only thing important to her character. Nettles may be a secondary character, but she’s the most important secondary character during the Dance. She starts out literally homeless. She claims Sheepstealer by determination, not by blood. She’s the only one to claim a wild dragon. The only non-Valyrian dragonrider that we know of.

She gets the Rogue Prince to fall in love with her to the point where he’s willing to die for her and disobeys his wife’s orders to save her. She survives the Dance with a dragon intake. Becomes a fire witch and is worshipped by a mountain clan in the Mountains of the Moon(she’s still worshipped by them during the main series). Her legacy is cemented.

I love her relationship with Daemon, but she’s so much more than just Daemon’s love. She’s a survivor. She’s the final girl. She would be seen as special as she is if she was white.

A character like her will never not be needed especially in a world where the representation of Black women in media, particularly fantasy stories, is still pretty bleak.

Rhaenyra (+Daemon) betrothed Baela and Jace along with Rhaena and Luke for political reasons and political alone. That’s not to say that Baela, Jace, Rhaena, and Luke don’t have feelings for one another but to act as if Rhaenyra and Daemon just betrothed then because they believe in “tRue LOve is stupid. I was looking at some of the screenshots on your latest Nettles post 🤪 and how do people think that Daemon not being impressed by Alys Rivers is an argument against D/N? Why would Daemon be impressed with Alys, a bastard nobody ?

They think that since Alys is a white non-Valyrian lowborn bastard and Daemon didn’t want her then he definitely wouldn’t want Nettles cause she’s a Black non-Valyrian lowborn bastard.

I wish I was joking, but this is actually how their minds work. A good 75% of their arguments are based on them wanting Black women, including fictional Black women, to be inferior.

Don’t get me wrong, Alys is lovely in her own right, but she’s not better than Nettles. Daemon not being into her has no bearing here.

And while yes you can draw parallels between the two women, even the in-text chroniclers don’t make any mention of how it was strange that Daemon didn’t want Alys yet he liked Netty.

It makes way more sense Daemon would be into Nettles who is young and a dragonrider than it does Alys who is older and has no connection to Valyria whatsoever, so this is on them and their issues.

You want to talk about disgusting behavior? No one wants to see people calling characters the n-word, denying racism, saying Afro-textured hair is dirty, laughing over and wanting a Black character to be race-bent, or using the real-life picture of the actresses and then calling her a monkey. That’s disgusting. It’s deplorable and it’s anti-Black.

You people are using centuries-old tropes, stereotypes, and racial slurs against Black people to attack Black(ish) characters and you expect us to be mute and ignore your behavior otherwise the moment we speak up, you do this to silence us.

🤣🤣🤣🤣My mom was rewatching 1x07 of HOTD and the infamous beach sex scene, and Rhaenyra's face at the end constantly kills me. Who the fuck has that kind of face when they're making love with the man of their dreams?! Who the fuck looks that dissociative when they're finally reunited with the love of their life the person that they burn for? Where was the fire? Where was the passion? Why does she look like she checked out?

My mom said that this was her having an expectation vs reality moment and realizing that Daemon wasn't all that, but because she's so enamored with him she's living in a state of denial because she now has the man she's always wanted. He's come back into her life and filled the hole of abandonment that he left behind. So, it'll cloud her judgment and have her stuck in the honeymoon phase.

But what killed us was how she woke up by herself in the shack looking not only unfulfilled, but also worried. She looked worried that he abandoned her again and my Mom clocked it. Rhaenyra is always gonna have that lingering doubt and worry in the back of her mind that Daemon is going to abandon her again one day. You see it in that moment and it almost comes true because after getting what he wants from her (her body) he was about to bounce back to Pentos had she not begged for his hand in marriage. It truly was pitiful watching her throw away any ounce of dignity and self-respect for a perverted man that ain't shit.

Yeah, she has this grand image of Daemon that doesn’t match up with reality. I don’t think that image was fully tarnished with that dry beach sex(🤣I laughed when I fast-forwarded and saw her looking around for him), cause even if it was lackluster, it’s obvious that she still looked up to him and idolized him.

She’s obsessed with Daemon, with being “true Targaryen’s,” with being “meant to burn together,” but after chokegate, she’s starting to see the faults with that line of thinking. This isn’t love and I think she’s waking up to that.

Lol, and this is the only time I will say I feel sorry for Miss Maegor, but she really was groomed and taken advantage of by Daemon cause she just wanted to be doted upon and be the special one and he appeared to give her.

Up until chokegate and then she realizes she was her father's “special one” all along. She taunts Daemon for it and Daemon cause he also wanted to be his brother's special one(right-hand man) and never was, snaps.

Their whole relationship is built on what they haven’t gotten from Viserys and when they realize who they were to him everything falls apart.

Book Dumbnyra isn’t any better because at the end of the day, I don’t think he wanted Viserys in the way show!Daemon does, but he still isn’t in love with Missy Anne. He still wants to be closer to the crown(the Targaryen ideal, his brother, power, etc).

He’s self-serving and ultimately Valyrian Karen is one such means to achieve his goals. This is why when it’s all said and done he is able to switch sides so easily and why when he ultimately does find someone he loves he abandons this girl he molded for his own goals to save the woman he loved.

It's interesting(I mean it can be), but it's not love. It's never been about love.

These are the same people who swear up and down that they aren’t racist and that they just don’t like Nettles cause she’s “irrelevant” and that those who like her only do so because she’s Black.

To that I say, if you think she’s irrelevant, you don’t like her, or you want to call her ugly, fine. You’re entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is(even GRRM thinks Nettles is an interesting character and none of the official art has her looking homely), but the moment you start trying to degrade her using race, that’s when you’ve crossed the line.

As always, if you’ve got to insult someone(and a fictional character at that) using disgusting stereotypes that have been used to dehumanize and other Black people, you’re the waste of space who needs help.
