Congratulations, you're the only person to make me interested in xtale. And I have no idea where to start at this point!
TEHE IT'S AN HONOR!! If it was because of the xtaIecest then you're in luck! The xbros are canonically filled with angst and bromantic tension! /j
(All links go to devian/tart, youtube, twitt/er, and tumbIr only)
1. Seriously though, if you haven't watched/aren't interested in Underv/erse (or don't care about a bunch of Sanses fighting each other) and are only interested in the XtaIe lore, I highly suggest watching the complete XtaIe animated series first! they introduce each member of the XtaIe cast very well! (If you prefer splitting each timeline into parts instead of binging them, they also have a playlist)
2. However, if you don't feel like watching an animated series at the moment, there's a comic of the last Timeline (which is also shown in the previous animation but from a different perspective). You don't need to worry about spoilers because the lore in the preceding Timelines in the animation are mostly irrelevant to it (i still recommend watching the animation at one point because it introduces the rest of the cast, as well as provide context for some of the questionable actions that happen in this comic)
Below the cut, there are additional links to optional comics by the creator in case you want to learn more about the characters!
3. There's also a lot of lore and characterization (and more importantly xbro interactions) that happen in the unofficial comics. I have an archive blog that has a lot of the xtaIe comics that are not necessarily canon but still provide some background for the characters. It's not in order, so you kind of have to poke around with the character tags to help you.
(If you have Twitte/r, there is a new account that provides canon info on XtaIe characters! These include official comics that i didn't manage to find for my archive blog. Bless them fr)
4. When you're finished acquainting yourself with the au, Jakei has an ongoing comic called 21 Years that also takes place in Timeline X, but a lot earlier on when they were kids. They also update this comic @/xtaIeunderverse (<- their pinned post also has a more concise guide for new fans Ω©( 'Ο‰' )و)
5. This is totally optional, but if you'd like to see what happens to Cross at the end, you could watch Under/verse and start from Season 1 as well! Cross is the protagonist and the story is basically how XtaIe's ending affects the rest of the multiverse. We do see XtaIe characters interact with classic UndertaIe characters in it if that interests you!
TLDR: Start with the animated series, it's the most important.
After that if you want to dive into more lore, read the comic + unofficial comics. If you liked Timeline X specifically, read 21 Years. Watching Under/verse is optional, but watch it if you'd like to see what happens to Cross after the ending.
I hope you find enjoyment in this AU!! It's super interesting, has beautiful art and animation, and wonderfully complex characters. πŸ’œ
