Комиссия по ценным бумагам и биржам США (SEC) обвинила основателей криптовалютного стартапа Dropil в обмане инвесторов и проведении незарегистрированного ICO на сумму $1.8 млн. SEC утверждает, что жители Калифорнии Джереми МакАлпин (Jeremy McAlpine), Захари Матар (Zachary Matar) и Патрик О’Хара (Patrick O'Hara), основаршие стартап Dropil, предоставляли инвесторам заведомо ложную информацию о финансовом положении фирмы.
Кроме того, они гарантировали прибыльность токена DROP и публиковали для потенциальных покупателей завышенные результаты проведения ICO. Учредители Dropil заявляли, что привлекли около $54 млн от 34 000 инвесторов из разных стран. Как выяснила SEC, на самом деле проект собрал лишь $1.8 млн от 2 472 человек. Руководители Dropil обещали приумножить средства, вложенные в токен DROP с января по март 2018 года, с помощью алгоритмического торгового бота «Dex». Прибыль в токенах DROP должна была распределяться между вкладчиками по прошествии 15 дней. Однако SEC выяснила, что собранные в ходе ICO средства организаторы проекта перевели на свои личные счета, после чего «сфабриковали» отчеты о доходах, якобы поступивших на их счета. Комиссия также сообщила об отсутствии каких-либо данных о функционировании бота «Dex» или генерации прибыли. Кроме того, SEC обвинила стартап в проведении незарегистрированного ICO, что нарушает положения законов о ценных бумагах. Как сообщила Комиссия, при проведении расследования Dropil пытался сфальсифицировать свидетельские показания. Напомним, что недавно SEC обвинила проект Meta 1 Coin в проведении мошеннического ICO и присвоении средств инвесторов, и даже оштрафовала актера Стивена Сигала за продвижение ICO криптовалютного проекта Bitcoiin2Gen и сокрытие факта получения оплаты.
