Unser Drink Of The Week: LAST WORD Dieses Mal haben wir für Euch einen Drink, der gleich auf mehreren Ebenen ganz besonders ist: Mindestens 100 Jahre sind seit seiner Erfindung in den Vereinigten Staaten ins Land gegangen. Wahrscheinlich wollte schon damals jemand in Detroit seine ganz eigene Vorstellung nicht durch Worte, aber durch ein Getränk ausdrücken. Besonders ist auch, dass zwei von vier Zutaten der Originalrezeptur Liköre sind, die einzeln für sich kaum genießbar sind, sich aber gegenseitig optimal ergänzen. Gemeint sind hier Maraschino und Chartreuse. Verschlägt es euch die Sprache, wenn wir euch erzählen, dass die Kreation mindestens zweimal als "verschollen" galt und doch immer wieder in den Bars der Welt entdeckt? Apropos, in Franky/O. könnt ihr sie bald auch finden und weil wir ja gerne das letzte Wort bei Dingen haben, weichen wir natürlich wieder etwas ab vom Original: Anstatt Gin kommt Mezcal ins Glas, dazu etwas Ananasextrakt. Im lateinamerikanisch Raum ist diese Variante besser bekannt unter dem Namen "Ultima Palabra" (das letzte Wort). Kommt vorbei und lasst es euch schmecken. Drink of the week - Poitin Known in some forms (like this dark one) as Ireland's precursor to whiskey and in other forms sometimes referred to as the mezcal of Ireland, this is something I came in contact with when I lived on Ireland for a few years a decade back. My only neighbor there was an old lovely woman. When I went over to say hello, it was impossible to not get fed with food, sandwiches or some alcohol. One day I was given some home made booze that was so strong that it almost dissolved my organs and I got curious of what type of alcohol it was. What is was made of and so on. It was called Poitin and I managed to find an official make of it to buy my self a bottle for home when I left the island. Some say you shouldn’t drink it pure due to the high alcohol percentage, but this one is only 40%, so it can be enjoyed straight. Unser Drink Of The Week: HIMBEER-GIN-SOUR-SPRITZ Zum Jahresanfang haben wir etwas Leichtes, das gleichzeitig fruchtig und charakterstark ist. Eine Fusion zwischen klassischem Sour und Longdrink. Etwas Spritz, genug Umdrehungen und eine leckere Ausgewogenheit. Zwar geht es langsam wieder aufwärts mit Tageslicht und Temperaturen, aber zum einen bekommen wir bestimmt noch einmal den Geschmack des Winters zu spüren und zum anderen kann man sich gar nicht oft genug in sommerliche Gefilde träumen. Und Unterstützung leistet da unser neuer Drink des Monats. Dafür wir nehmen Gin, einen Schuss frischgepresste Limette und selbstgemischten Zuckersirup. As I hadnt found time to make a dent in the home bar of late, I wanted to get back into the swing of things with a boozy thirst quencher. As the heat is also resulting in our orchids shedding their flowers, it just felt right to dig into the tiki archives to take advantage of my windfall garnishes.🍹 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With Chicago's @LostLakeLovesYou on my must visit bar list, and a bar whose past menus had offered great value during my lockdown virtual bar crawl, I turned to one of my favourite drinks of 2020 - the bar's take on the South Sea Dipper.🏖 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Originally a Trader Vic creation, the tiki drink featured in his 1947 Bartender's Guide featuring a single rum base and a hefty ruby port float. Lost Lake's reimagination of the South Sea Dipper was created by the king of Chicago Tiki, Paul McGee - owner of both Lost Lake and Three Dots and a Dash.🍹 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ McGee's recipe amps up the depth and the funk by splitting the rum base three ways, including a rhum agricole. Furthermore, it dials back the ruby port and dispenses with the float, instead incorporating this into the mix.
