Growing up, yard work was my least favorite chore. I remember telling my mother that I’d like an entirely paved over yard when I grew up so I’d never have to bother with weeds or mowing, I’d just get some potted plants… and look at me now, living the dream! 🤣🤣 my apartment has no yard but it has a fat slab of concrete for a front deck that has magically transformed into a jungle thanks to lockdown. —- for anyone intimidated by gardening, fall in love with the invasive and vining flowers. Here are the images from yesterday’s reel. The original image (second slide) was done 01/03/21 with microns and alcohol markers, I made the updated version in ProCreate. I still love traditional art but it’s nice to have learned ProCreate this last year, I find it really helpful and fun. This year I want to try more digital sketching with traditional coloring (versus when I started out I’d just digitally color things I’d drawn traditionally). When I was in my early 20’s I spent a few winters working at a local ski resort. I didn’t know how to ski before starting there, and learning as an adult is a bit more challenging than if you’re introduced to it young, but I had some very patient and kind coworkers/friends who showed me the ropes. I made this so much harder on myself with some of my poor choices, but with perseverance I’m really happy with the result! Things to do differently next time/the aforementioned bad decisions 🤣: I just chose one of the first line-arts I had saved on my computer, which happened to be all small and detailed. I should’ve thought about what I was making and picked a simpler/larger image. I couldn’t made a better decision with which medium I used. I colored her in with poscas but I don’t have any fine point poscas so it got frustrating at times 🤣. Next issue: the next time I do this I’ll cover the entire surface in modpodge, not just where I’m transferring the image. Having it on some parts of the back but not others made the paint take unevenly. Lastly: I was hoping watercolors would make a nice flat stain on the wood, so it would show through, but all the brush strokes showed and it kept lifting when I’d try to build layers😱 I got to the fun blotchey background by leaving puddles of concentrated watercolor on the board and letting them dry for a long time.
