Halo Reloaded: Halsey & Life In The Spartan Program
It's been a minute since I did a simple discussion about things in my AU, so here we go.
Halsey, like in-canon, is a brilliant scientist with a vision for the human-race, but isn't terribly interested in directing said vision; UNLIKE in-canon, Halsey didn't kidnap any of the kids to join her program (and any time I've said 'kidnap,' or any variation thereof, in the any past posts, you can ignore), NOR is the Spartan-Program her idea. The original Orion-Project was created shortly after the start of the Human-Covenant War and fell through not long before the Spartan-II Program/Project Orion-II, which had been around before Halsey's involvement, saw production. Halsey was merely the right woman for the job, and whole idea is ONI's; specifically, Admiral Parangosky's.
Halsey had visited various Outer-Rim planets and discussed with the parents of her future students about the school that they'll be taken to. A real (if VERY clandestine) military-academy that seeks to train these kids into future heroes, NOT SOLDIERS, HEROES, that'll stop The Covenant from destroying humanity; and she eases the parents' minds by telling them that they can see their kids (via video-call, since physical visits are prohibited on the basis that the location of the school is top secret) at anytime they'd like AND their children won't immediately be sent out to war, as training is a long 8-year process (further helped that Halsey, despite being more morally up-right than her canon-self, doesn't feel too good about this herself). John Downes, later designated as John-117, was the only kid she took in that was from Eridanus-II; everyone else came from other planets like Madrigal, Harvest and Jericho. No Flash-Clones or any kidnapping needed!
Basically, it's Ender's Game, that's what this is. These kids weren't taken against their will; it's why all of my Spartans in this AU are so much more well-adjusted than in-canon.

Alright m’dears, I’ve finished Halo: Fall of Reach and officially started Halo: Silent Strike, so prepare for spoilers.
Spoilers ahead
.
.
.
First, had no idea Silent Strike was Fred’s point of view, I’m kicking my feet, I’m so excited. I’m only 2 chapters in and Fred’s so precious, he’s just a nervous big little guy that will get the job done. And Kelly, I swear she’s always ready to throw hands, 10/10.
Now, for Fall of Reach, buckle up, it’s a ride.
I won’t lie, it took me a good 4-5 days to read, I had a hard time getting into it. It was good, I loved the development of lore but it wasn’t keeping me on the edge of my seat till the end. Halsey was such an interesting character to read and seeing the way Cortana was later questioning the things her creator did was fascinating. Especially with the Spartan program, like it’s messed up but it did what Halsey said it was going to do. I love the way it explored moral wrong decisions vs the choice that had to be made. Halsey cares for her Spartans but they were made to die for humanity, so does that make her a monster? Or someone with a duty to complete? I can’t remember who said it in the book but they said something among the lines “someone who didn’t care for them, could’ve been in charge of the project instead of you.” I have thoughts about Halsey that go back and forth.
Sam’s death was sad, like I’m still upset about it. I understand why they killed him off but man, come on. The fact that John couldn’t look back or else he would’ve stayed to die with Sam made me close the book and let out a long sigh, I was so sad for them. But also a huge character development for John and Kelly, I never see anyone talking about Kelly’s character development after this. Personally, I feel like this is why Kelly’s always the first to volunteer, why she’s always thinking so fast and reacting before she fully thinks through some of her actions. I will revise this once I finish Halo: Ghosts of Onyx.
The Keyes loop was interesting and smart as hell but after that I didn’t really care, I loved Keyes in the game and the beginning of the book, but I found him a little boring later. Like where’s Miranda? What about Halsey and Keyes’ love affair? The drama? The tea? Where is it? Like seriously, they got a kid together and nothing, I thought that was weird.
AND LINDA’S DEAD??? I’m sorry, what? I know she lives but I wasn’t really ready for it, I had to close my book and walk away. I did infact shout and hit my coworker with the book in disbelief when it happened. And poor John thinks he’s the only one left, this man’s going through it. Also hate the way James died, that was awful.
I have more thoughts that I can’t remember and will do a reread later with annotations, so there will be a part two when I finish reading all the books. A year later lol.
Thanks for joining my Ted Talk.

Halo, Ep.9 - Transcendence
So were the graphics intentionally that bad to make us feel like we were in an early Halo game or….?
After such a, well, pretty strong episode last week; this week is pretty meh again.  However, it sounds like Paramount is happy with the numbers, so it seems like there’s a good chance for a second season.
Makee decides to bring the artifact back to the Covenant.
There’s a standoff between John and Kai vs. the rest of Silver Team.  John tries to tell them the truth about Halsey.  They don’t believe John, until Keyes tells them the truth.  Furthermore, he tells them and Miranda his part in all of this.
Silver Team goes after Makee, with the exception of Kai who goes after Halsey.  Kai fails to capture Halsey, but does manage to kill creepy doctor so that’s a win in my book.
Using Cortana, Master Chief is able to figure out where the Covenant is hiding.  Silver Team goes after the Covenant.  As they are traveling, Cortana admits to Chief her true purpose.  However, she was also built to learn and she realized that taking over Chief’s body, would kill the thing that makes humans special.
Meanwhile, Halsey is captured, tried, and seems to be sentenced to die.  However, Halsey goes into convulsions and Miranda realizes that’s not Halsey but a clone.  The real Halsey escapes.
Silver Team find the Covenant.  As they are fighting, Makee uses the artifact.  In order to stop Makee from giving the Covenant what they want, Kai kills Makee.  So, yes, Makee really was useless in this series.  To be able to save both Silver Team and the artifact, Chief gives Cortana full control of his body.  They all get away with the artifact.  Cortana, as the episode ends, seems to still be in control of Chief’s body.
Like I said, not as interesting an episode as the last one.  If there is a second season, I will probably watch but I’m hoping that the storytelling will be a bit more even next season.

My head canon for Bride for Reanimator was that Herbert wasn't trying to be symbolic when he gave him Meg's heart, in fact he was doing the exact opposite. At her funeral or something he over heard Dan saying he loved Meg's heart, in reference to her morals, determination, values whatever. And Herbert was like "What the fuck??? Her organs??? I was just gonna give him her boobs or something but I guess this works too."
