ive seen people point out the contradiction between komaedas motive in chapter 5 being to kill everyone but the traitor and komaeda telling hajime at the end of 2.5 that he believed in hajime, and i personally believe this contradiction couldve very well been intentional, and adds a deeper and more interesting layer to komaedas motive:

because if you think about it. if komaeda truly wanted to sure there was NEGATIVE ZERO chance the remnants couldve won, then he wouldve made the case unsolvable. all of the evidence in his cottage couldve been disposed of i mean he left that monokuma poison literally RIGHT there in the fridge without even trying to hide it behind any food. he couldve thrown the aluminum foil in the trash, he couldve returned chiakis notebook to monomis house instead of leaving the bright pink chest RIGHT ON HIS TABLE. he was very clearly trying to make the trial fair. for it to be the true final battle between hope and despair, he can’t rig it in anyone’s favor — that was probably his thought process.

but because he made the case fair, he knew there was always a chance the traitor would lose. by repeatedly saying he believes in his luck and that everything will be ok during the bomb scare, it’s like he’s trying to convince HIMSELF that his plan will work too, so he’s already sort of nervous about the plan, naturally. in running the possibilities through his head, he’s probably already guessed theres a chance his good luck will be chiaki throwing the right bottle and his bad luck will be everyone figuring out the traitor is her, but also, he left a CLUE behind that would let hajime determine the traitor was her (chiakis notebook). hajime always had a fair shot, and i think that, subconsciously, he believed in hajime’s abilities. he knew hajime was smart enough to solve the case.

so he was probably thinking something like: “if hajime wins, is that hope, too? since no one (including me) remembers ending the world, that means everyone at this moment is innocent, which means if they win theyre going to fight for the sake of hope. whether that hope is strong enough to defeat the mastermind is a different question. but that’s still hope, it just means that theres more of a chance for the mastermind to win, if they dont all just die.” and, somewhere deep down, komaeda probably knows that THIS is the true hope — it’s a tougher battle, the despair will be harder to overcome, meaning the hope will have to be just as strong, too.

i think komaeda is smart enough to not see everything in black and white (traitor is hope traitor live, remnant is despair remnant die), considering, like, his whole thing is being morally grey. i think denying that he was smart enough to predict the ending in advance is underestimating his intelligence. he knew there was a chance, subconsciously; and what he says in 2.5’s ending is reaffirming that. he did believe — he always believed in hajime. no matter how much he tried not to.

The Game

Fairly basic satire on war and football hooligans but is still enjoyable. Enjoyed the shorter runtimes of episodes. William Russell hasn’t lost a beat coming back and nice to have out of sequence friend before River Song occurred. Villain seemed to have upper hand quite often but he never got to come back did he. Nyssa has romantic and job opportunities to leave the Doctor but she’s destined to be by his side. The Doctor fanboying is fun as is his aversion (yet skill) to violence - it’s a shame we don’t know his other 30 wars negotiated though.

The past couple days I've gotten a flurry of kudos from 2-3 different users on like... everything I've ever written for Cirque. From the pattern I can kind of glean that someone saw Ka, blasted through all my writing for that, and then maybe remembered oh, I've actually seen some other shows, and read those ones too. Or they looked some up on YouTube and then gave those fics a shot if the costumes looked cool, or tried the crossovers first because at least they knew part of it, maybe even went in sight unseen because they just liked my style at that point.

And the best part is I think this person told a friend or two. Because the same thing happened again, but a couple days later and little differently. Different orders and bookmarks, but still a windfall of kudos. On stuff that felt like pulling teeth just to finish, things I, as a chronic rereader of my own shit, still like to pretend might not exist (hello Four Seasons, my least loved child). Or ideas that were so far up my own ass that I only posted them to purge the idea from my head, with zero hope anyone would stick around my personal version of this show long enough to click, let alone enjoy (To Make Whole my short, angsty beloved).

I'm just so glad people are finding this stuff! Because I'm still writing! I have more for these lovely kudos strangers, I'm just slower now! Lockdown is behind us, my time is more limited, and frankly after posting over thirty fics for the same ninety-minute dialogue-less show I only spend that limited time on the ones I think might actually make it over the finish line. But it still does happen! And those handful of AO3 emails the past couple mornings have me powering away like never before.

I just feel really grateful and seen. If you're out there, kudos friends, I see ya and I love ya and please stick around for the rest! And LEAVE COMMENTS about what you like, because you would not believe how I'll fall over myself to write more of it for you if I know what it is!!

Love the current 12 tier list, especially the old man slay category. If you feel like talking about it, I was wondering what your thoughts were on Mummy on the Orient Express were, bc there is just SO much going on in that episode with twelve and Clara’s characterizations to me. Both individually and in relation to each other.

i think this is one of those episodes where i'll have to rewatch it to catch everything (i was so caught up in the premise and the mystery it's really good) but comparing clara's space time travel life and by extension her relationship to twelve as an addiction is CRAZY. that's so crazy lmao me and the bestie!! i am basically his one tether to earth and i have to keep him in line bc i'm pretty sure he'd go fucking bonkers without someone like me around (i love this life i cannot give it up and i think i can do it better than anyone else). my bestie who has kind of lost his ability to be kind to people so i have to pick up the caring-about-others thing for him. maybe i can make him better. maybe i can make him worse. maybe i can make for a better doctor than him. wouldn't that be so funny

Thoughts on Kuzukoma (Nagito x Fuyuhiko) and Komazumi (Nagito x Mahiru)? I just really love Nagito ships that pair him with a stern-but-caring tsundere that knows when to call him out, but will also provide positive reinforcement.

Mahiru and Nagito reminds me of one of my favourite (however, platonic) dr comics. So I do enjoy the idea of them, as Mahiru would be one of the few people that could keep Nagito in line. As after a while she may be able to pick up on his suspicious behaviour.

Not to meantion the two of them together would probably help keep others in line, from preventing Teruteru's uhhhh... behaviours, to telling Kaz to clean up.

While Nagito is a bit fickle, at least he's dependable in taking care of others. So he would probably tidy up for Mahiru, which she would like.

Fuyuhiko and Nagito I haven't thought about as much, but I imagine he would be more agressive in how he cares about Nagito. Like constantly checking in on him, and ensuring he is taking care of himself.

Not to meantion Fuyuhiko trying to teach Nagito to put himself first once in a while, since we all know Fuyuhiko's stance on people that don't think much about themselves.

What is your opinion on danganronpa 2.5?

hello anon! thank you SO MUCH letting me ramble!!! :)

I really do love Danganronpa 2.5, I think it's really cool that they explain more how everyone was waken up, I also adore that the plot is based off of statements in Danganronpa 2 only elaborating and exploring them more. Not only that, but they make it all about Nagito who's the same character that is complex enough to have three entire songs haha!! So it works out well.

2.5 reverses Nagito's luck cycle which makes it easier to understand and I really love it. It also adds the statement that truly Nagito would rather have his luck not harm others but rather help them and harm himself, there's also the detail that Nagito's luck is so prominent in his life that even in a world made by his subconscious it is always there. It also implies he deep down wishes talent didn't exist which is something he'd never admit or even know he felt with his unhealthy obsession and dedication with hope and the ultimates!!!

I really enjoy world destroyer too, I think his scenes are very interesting, like, ok man thanks for pulling up with your FINGER GUNS??? It's super cool!! His design is pretty interesting too even if it's just adding to Hajime's preexisting one.

I also like the detail that alongside Nagito's own death the memories that he remembers most vividly is Hajime's smile and his time with him which is just very sweet

The moments with Makoto and Sayaka being out of character because Nagito views them, especially Makoto, so highly is super funny too. Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko's friendship is also fun and something we don't get to see often! The background characters we get to see are also just very fun.

I find it really interesting that by swapping Nagito's belief with the opposite it's basically telling what the genuine issue is in their world because his beliefs stems from the flawed ideals of hope's peak. The issue in their world isn't the talentless, it's the talented. No one is happy, talentless people feel worthless, and being talented is exhausting in its own way. All of the social pressure of not being treated as humans being at its most extreme in this world is upsetting for most everyone.

Danganronpa 2.5 has a lot of REALLY good stuff going on for it, I think the only complaint I see about it is Nagito's "contradiction," which I'll talk a little bit about!

Basically, people like to point out that with Nagito's suicide plan he should have been more upset, "He never believed in Hajime though?"

I've seen a few pretty good interpretations of it, but the one I think makes most sense is that he was talking more to Izuru kamakura since he had gotten his memories back. Nagito's old and new memories merge together, he remembers pretty much everything. Which is why he sees Izuru first, then corrects himself seeing Hajime, and Hajime replies that they're both him.

Nagito then says he knew he'd make it to the lowest stratum, and that he believed in him. Basically saying that Izuru could do anything.

Maybe he believed the supposedly Bad luck from going into the Neo World Program would end up in Good luck? It's unclear a bit, but I definitely believe he's talking to Izuru a bit at the very least. Mostly because if he believed in Hajime in the killing game his luck cycle wouldn't have gone, good luck: the traitor was selected, bad luck: the plan didn't work and they lived.

Nagito has known Hajime and Izuru now and accepts him for who he is. It's honestly really sweet. Hajime himself has grown and accepts Nagito for who he is as well. They both forgive each other and it's just really sweet. They've been through a lot!

Overall little rambles aside, I think Danganronpa 2.5 is really lovely. It adds more to Nagito's character, tells more information about how the class woke up while using actual text from Danganronpa 2, and is just super fun! I love Danganronpa 2.5 a lot.
