Oscar Isaac’s next project could be starring in a Dr. Frankenstein feature film, directed by Guillermo del Toro, that would start production in June 2023. 👀
Tumblr media
Guillermo Del Toro is on a roll at Netflix, delivering his first two major projects for the streamer in 2022; eyes are now looking toward his future under his overall deal. What’s on Netflix has learned Netflix is eying a Dr. Frankenstein movie with the creator, and Oscar Isaac is eyed to star.
Netflix struck an overall deal with Guillermo Del Toro back in August 2020, with Pinocchio and Cabinet of Curiosities being his first major titles for the service. Before this deal, however, Del Toro also worked on the DreamWorks Television series Trollhunters and its subsequent sequels and Five Came Back.
While we’re waiting for a renewal order for Cabinet of Curiosities, attention has rightfully turned to what’s next from the creator.
In recent days, Guillermo del Toro has teased one of his upcoming projects will be a monster movie.
Speaking to the Variety Awards Podcast, del Toro told them about his next project, saying:
“Well, I’m working on a monster movie; I cannot say the title because it may change, and I could end up making something else. But right now, I’m writing and designing. And we have for the last couple of years. Hopefully, it’ll be next, but anything can happen.”
First published in 1818, Frankenstein has become an icon in the horror space for decades and centuries. Although Universal Pictures re-copyrighted the character, the story of Frankenstein is within the public domain.
Netflix optioned Frankenstein in March 2022 from Elizabeth S. Wrightson.
As mentioned, we’re told Oscar Isaac is in talks to star in the feature film. Isaac is best known for roles in Dune, Disney+’s Moon Knight, Star Wars, and featured in Netflix’s Triple Frontier.
Of course, Isaac recently lent his voice to Pinocchio, set to release on Netflix on December 8th.
Tumblr media
Production, we’re told, is due to start in June 2023.
Guillermo Del Toro was attached to a Dr. Frankenstein project a decade ago
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Del Toro looking to delve into the world of Frankenstein or his love of the character.
The film director reportedly has busts of Boris Karloff as the monster in his house and has been developing a project for over a decade.
Collider spoke to Doug Jones about the scrapped project back in October 2020 and speculated the project, set up at Universal Pictures in the late 2000s, was killed after the disappointment at the box office for The Dark Universe.
Back in 2008, Del Toro spoke about his love for the IP and what his plans were for the project then telling Coming Soon:
“I’m not doing ‘Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein.’ I’m doing an adventure story that involves the creature. I cannot say much, but it’s not the central creation story, I’m not worried about that. The fact is I’ve been dreaming of doing a ‘Frankenstein’ movie since I was a child. The one thing I can promise is, compared to Kenneth Branagh, I will not appear shirtless in the movie!”
That’s all we know for now; we’ll keep looking for more details as and when we get them. Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see Guillermo Del Toro tackling Dr. Frankenstein in the comments below.

@actordougjones is a beautiful person
And seriously, there is point of note here that is coincident and perhaps quite relevant. He is genuinely (and not only for being kind and supportive to fans and fellow (much more lowly!) professionals) one of my favourite actors, and a lot of that is to do with what he does - he coins it in an interview when he says "dialogue comes in visuals and verbal". Doug Jones speaks wonderfully through physical language - it's a significant part of what he does; and how he does it, in all the nuanced flavours of his many different characters, is delicious to see/hear/sensorially absorb. It is something I identify with as an actor in my own work, even (perhaps surprisingly) regarding Kirk and portraying him in a holistic sense - because Kirk is so specific and recognizable in body; in physical language that is part of the expression, the 'dialogue' of his character.
I noticed from the start of this journey some years ago that a lot of fans talked about and expressed artistically how important Kirk's body and physicality was to them, and when you start to really feel out the character, it hits you how integral to his character it is; how a significant proportion of who he is is communicated uniquely through that embodiment and expression. I allude to this in "The Making of...". This character was born on screen and is so loved, so iconic, because of this entire package. It's what makes Kirk himself, and not another character - and indeed, not easy to play fast and loose with and still convey the same thing.
In terms of encapsulating that specificity in the physical sense, it is certainly not about practicing and performing superficial mannerisms - you can, but in order to work with a different physical 'accent' and for it to not seem 'put on' and fake, you have to make it make sense as a truthful expression of the character. A lot of the physical language of Kirk I find comes from the inner life of the character, and understanding that to a sufficient degree the physicality naturally/subconsciously follows. It's also true that people sometimes spot gestures or expressions in my everyday life and say 'you just did x or y like Kirk' - so some or maybe a lot of it is just how I am; being so similar in build also, I likely (as also pointed out) walk and move similarly. A close casting does help - it's taking a good start point and bringing to bear the work of the actor to fine tune it. I feel quite blessed and fortunate to be able to bring the two together. I'm glad I've been able to show it in some way now on film.
And friends/fans - don't miss out on the 'Making of' video - I talk about the above; the characters, their arcs and a lot of episode/movie meta-analysis. For fans of the Kirk-Spock arc, it's essential viewing...!

I’m only now finding out that Doug Jones played Amphibian Man, Abe Sapien, and Fauno
Yes he's iconic! He plays a lot of creatures! I was actually shocked ST went with Jamie for Vecna instead of Doug Jones but the budget probably wasn't budgeting 😭

AZZA Androbot prototype by Doug Jones (1982), Androbot, Sunnyvale, CA. The first robot designed in-house at Androbot was Azza, a simple radio controlled robot made out of cardboard and resin. This would be the first iteration of the iconic Topo drive mechanism, having two wheels set at an angle and made bottom heavy to keep itself balanced. “The idea for the drive base came from another ‘personal’ project I was working on in my spare time, basically from my last un-employed period between jobs. I was working on a perpetual motion machine that used canted roll tracks for conical weights and did a form study of it using casting resin. I turned it upside down one day and noticed it had self centering abilities like a can of ham. The base design found a level resting position on carpeting quickly. At the time we were doing all the brain storming, the robot was going to be a pet, like a dog or cat, about 10-12 inches tall.” – Meet Doug Jones, Designer.

The Gentlemen
Currently watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, what can I say, such an iconic series. Its the series you can watch time and time again, and not just in order, you can just selected your favourite episode.
You could probably guess which is my fave looking at the title of this. The whole concept was so creepy and kept you on the edge of your seat, you never knew what was going to heppen.
Can you just imagine waking up and been able to talk, thats got to be everyones fear, right!?!
You've all heard of Doug Jones right? He played Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus, he plays the leader of The Gentlemen. His mannerisms and body language is just fantastic. He doesn't even have to say anything for it to be a fantastic performance, he just has you completely gripped from start to finish.
Is anyone here a Buffy fan!! Whats your favorite episode?

One Last Colony The Havana Affair
Issue 11 - Vol. II

The term nostalgia describes a yearning for the past, often in idealized form. Back in the Early Modern Period, it was described as a medical condition, a form of melancholy, and became an important trope in Romanticism. In common, less clinical usage, nostalgia sometimes includes a general interest in past eras, personalities and events, particularly when one mentions the “good old days,”
This issue, which we’ve titled One Last Colony, is certainly all about nostalgia. The phrase truly sums up what the exuberant city of Havana, where much of the action in these pages takes place, is all about. At first glance, when landing at night and hitting the dimly lit streets of this infamous city you are simply not aware of all the grandeur that the dawn will reveal. Set in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, only about 160 kilometres away from the United States, Havana is undoubtedly one of the very few jewels left of the Colonial Period. There, Fascist architecture is combined with Art Deco and the most exuberant of the Spanish Colonial Empire meets 1940′s Americana. It has all been untouched since the Cuban revolution in the mid 1950′s as if it was the film set of the most lavish Hollywood production.
This oft-overlooked, somewhat forbidden architectural extravaganza sets the scene for a celebration of music, old American cars running on Russian engines and a perfectly vibrant social landscape that is captured by L.A. based photographer Doug Inglish in our fashion/travel portfolio for Summer 2012.
But One Last Colony doesn’t end in Havana. First, we bring you our favourite collections one by one, exploring them in all their variety and elegances. Then, we take a worldwide tour in which we introduce you to a re-invented Aiden Shaw in our home town of Barcelona, then visit the iconic Madrid-based interior designer Pascua Ortega, catch up with the young jet-setter bag designer Gabrielecorto Moltedo at his home in Florence, and we end up talking to the one and only Kim Jones about his new role at Louis Vuitton in Paris.
With the sound of live salsa, a mojito in hand and the smell of tobacco mixed with a steady Caribbean breeze we are proud to introduce our second journey as Hercules Universal and invite you to our very own colony.

Hocus Pocus 2
Review: *Spoilers start at the end of paragraph 3
Tumblr media
Look, I am a witchy girl. I love black cats, and medieval/Victorian fashion, and all things magic. With this I have also fallen in love with witch-themed movies and books. Wicked, Practical Magic, and Harry Potter I all love. But little else signifies the transition into the Halloween season for me quite like Hocus Pocus. Me and my family have been watching this movie every October for, I don’t even know how many years. So, you can imagine that I was very excited, but skeptical, when Disney announced that they would be coming out with a second movie. And all I can say is, I am pleasantly surprised. I’m not sure how bad a movie can even be with the Sanderson Sisters at the helm, and while the first Hocus Pocus is superior, this one was still loads of fun to watch and I have zero regrets. I don’t care about the new teen leads. I had no emotional connection to them, I didn’t care about them, they didn’t matter. They were a means to an end to get this second movie made. But every scene with the Sandersons or Billy, pure childhood nostalgia. To start with the real stars of this movie, lets discuss the witches. I remember vividly just transitioning from wanting to be a princess one day, to wanting to be a witch the next. They’re stories always just end up being much more sympathetic, and they just seem like more fun. Seeing the sisters on the screen, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy just looked like they were having so much fun. The dynamic between the three girls is as amusing and entertaining as it has always been, but they added an extra emotional element by giving us an origin where Winifred was almost taken from her sisters. And the ending where Winnie sees her sisters die, and without a second thought says that she doesn’t care about her powers, she wants her sisters back, it was just beautiful. But it was made even greater when revealed the sisters weren’t returning, she was going to them, and Winnie just had the most content smile on her face. You just can’t not love those witchy sisters. Next: Billy. I always liked Billy a lot. Next to Sarah he was my favorite character. But he just became even more lovable in this film, and even more like Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow/Edward Scissorhands character, so that I fully fell in love with him. I was skirting the edge of that pond before, but now I’m completely submerged and have zero regrets. I don’t know why actors focusing on physicality makes me fall for them, but every jerky movement Billy made just made me fall further and further. I also just loved the way he talked, and his insults to Winifred. Doug Jones was just fantastic in this role. I didn’t care for when the Sandersons appeared and did the musical number in the forest, because that’s meant to bewitch people and there was no one they were trying to bewitch. I was suddenly super afraid they were just gonna Disney Channel-ify the whole thing, but their cover of “One Way or Another” was super fun to watch. Also, I’m a little confused. Winnie plainly stated in the original movie that her book was given to her by Satan himself, so either that witch in the woods was Satan in disguise and Disney thought that Satan is too scary for kids, or the writers just forgot a key part of the canon they had to follow. I’m hoping it’s the former. I also really enjoyed all the callbacks to the original, including the fourth wall break of two guys actually watching a scene from the first Hocus Pocus. We had another black cat (though nonspeaking), Sarah’s song was reprised several times, and we got a random town’s lady in the mothers iconic Madonna costume. There were also mentions of Sarah’s hidden rat tails, talk of the spell that would one day be used on Binx, Mary riding a vacuum again (but this time two roombas), the use of water to trick the witches, the sisters saying “Buh-bye”, and Sarah gleefully shouting “Amok! Amok! Amok!”
Overall, the movie was just a good time. The Sandersons were fabulous as ever, most jokes landed, Billy was amazing, and it was about time that a book shed a tear after all the times they’ve made me cry. Is there going to a third one? The post-credit scene sure made it look like it, but I would be satisfied with this movie concluding the Hocus Pocus story. I was incredibly impressed with the writers’ abilities to not only emulate key characteristics of the witches, but also add more depth to them. If you’re looking for a high-quality feature, this movie isn’t for you. But if you want to have some fun, experience a spin on nostalgia, and get into the season, it’s a really good and quick watch. After all, it’s not meant to be a life-changing thing. It’s just a bunch of hocus pocus.

Papoose presents 50 Years of Hip Hop – A Celebration of What's to Come – the 40/40 Club – New York, NY – April 13, 2023
The 50th anniversary of hip-hop marks a significant milestone for a cultural movement that has transformed music, fashion, and art across the globe. Originating in the South Bronx of New York City in the early 1970s, hip-hop emerged as a voice for marginalized youth to express themselves through music, dance, and graffiti art. Since then, hip-hop has become a cultural phenomenon that continues to evolve and break down barriers. Papoose is a rapper who has made significant contributions to the hip hop community that goes beyond music.
Tumblr media
The Brooklyn rapper gained popularity in the early 2000s for his mixtapes which showcased his natural talent for storytelling. His intricate wordplay and lyrical ability earned him a loyal fanbase in the underground hip-hop scene. His dedication to preserving the genre's history and legacy has cemented him as a pillar in the community, making him a perfect fit for the role as Head of Hip Hop.
Tumblr media
On January 24th, 2023, TuneCore, the leading digital distribution and music publishing service for independent artists, announced a new partnership with the legendary rapper, naming him Head of Hip-Hop for the company. In his new role, Papoose will report to Andreea Gleeson, Chief Executive Officer, and will lead the company’s Artist Ambassador program for Hip-Hop, making him responsible for scouting rising talent, overseeing artist education and act as a brand advisor for TuneCore.
Tumblr media
In honor of the 50th anniversary of Hip-hop, Papoose and TuneCore linked up to commemorate the incredible milestone and celebrate the rap giants belated birthday and new role as Head of Hip Hop for the music platform. Held at the notorious 40/40 Club in NYC, the event pulled in hip hop juggernauts and various pioneers in the community, including Remy Ma, Fabolous, Jim Jones, Ja Rule, Melle Mel, Doug E. Fresh, Mona Scott Young, Consciousness, Rocky Bucano, Bishop Whitehead and many more. Throughout the night DJ Trase spun tracks from the 80's-90s, setting up the perfect tone for a night of nostalgia and celebration.
Tumblr media
To kick off the event, Rocky Bucano from the Universal Museum of Hip Hop presented Papoose with the "Hip Hop Artist Executive Award," recognizing the artists contribution to the genre and the community. To open up the lineup of performances, Papoose introduced his TuneCore recruits, rappers Manson Thugication and K Goddess.
Tumblr media
The up-and-coming rappers set the tone for the night with raw lyricism and flow that only native New Yorkers bare. As the night went on Papoose introduced icon after icon to the stage, including Melle Mel, Ja Rule, Fabolous, Jim Jones, Maino, Remy Ma and Doug E. Fresh.
