It's happening, finally! The Pangzi exchange is here! Together with the Pangzi server we have decided that there's no better way to celebrate our favourite guy's birthday than with a feast of fanworks all about him!

The Pangzi Birthday Exchange is a fic, art and video exchange like any other where the participants will be matched anonymously to create a gift for each other. The only difference is that it has one very important rule: whatever you create must center around Pangzi, he must be the star of your creation.

The exchange will be held on AO3, which means you will need an account to participate. If you do not have an account please notify me or ask a friend with an account to send you an invite!

Guidelines:

This exchange is about Pangzi so your creation should be about him. This means the main idea, plot and/or ship should be about him.

Write something based on your assignment's requests. You aren't obligated to follow their prompts, write something you think they will enjoy. Pay close attention to their Do Not Wants.

Minimum requirements are: 1000 words for fic (or 500 words + sketch); clean, lined sketch for art (traditional or digital); 45 seconds for video.

Do not discuss your creations publicly until after author reveals.

Anyone can create a treat for anyone, if you aren't sure you want to sign up, you can consider making someone a treat. Pay close attention to the person's request and especially the DNWs.

My Creator Letter: Dear Creator, Hi! Thanks for considering giving me a treat :D

I would prefer written gifts to be in English.

Preferred DMBJ canon: Reboot, Ultimate Note, Mystic Nine but really any and all are fine.

Characters: I'm a fan of Wu Xie-centric pieces (I'm basic, I know) but including Xiaoge and/or Pangzi (platonic or romantic) is a must! If you're feeling Mystic Nine, Ba-ye-centric please.

Relationships: (Gen, romantic, sexual is all fine) - Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling, Wu Xie/Pangzi, Wu Xie/Pangzi/Zhang Qiling, Wu Xie & Xie Yuchen (I usually think platonic here, but do whatever strikes you!), Qi Tiezui/Zhang Qishan, Qi Tiezui/Zhang Rishan. Any background pairings are totally fine!

Some general likes: -hurt/comfort (whump or emotional) -anything dealing with asexuality -illness (chronic, terminal, or regular) -enduring a wound but getting increasingly worse -thinking someone has died (but they didn't or it's temporary) -curses -animal shape shifting -disordered eating -non-con of any level (not between the main characters) -overworking oneself -hiding something so as not to burden others -realistic recovery-centric fics (I'm thinking about the 1000 head wounds they've all brushed off with no problem, but also knee injuries etc that takes weeks of frustration and pain to recover from)

DNWs: 1st or 2nd person, explicit sexual content/smut, kid fic, a/b/o (unless it's society-focused, not sexual), pure fluff (make it hurt first lol), crossovers, permanent major character death

A few prompts of the admittedly vague variety and one that's hyper specific: -kidnapping and/or being trapped -being protective in big and small ways, like going feral in a revenge way but also little moments of "don't talk to him like that" kind of things -tomb curses -telepathy -temporary character death (I talked myself into that while writing no MCD and now I'm invested) -time loops -time loops WITH temporary character death -an AU with an outside abusive relationship - for example, Pangzi and/or Xiaoge move in somewhere and befriend Wu Xie only to later realize his current partner mistreats him or canon-divergence where Wu Xie develops a toxic relationship with someone while Xiaoge is behind the gate (maybe to punish himself? idk, that guy's a mess and I love it) Either Pangzi confronts him about this or Xiaoge does after returning or both?

For videos, I don't really have song preferences, but I'd prefer a focus on relationships

Relationships: Hei Xiazi/Xie Yuchen

Summary: 

After Xie Yuchen disappears while on an expedition, Hei Xiazi is led to another abandoned ruin just like so many before. There the only trace left of Xie Yuchen's team, is a bloody jacket spelling out a single word:

Death.

Still going in, he is ready to follow in the steps of those before, determined to leave these ruins with one man more than entered.

Though whether Xie Yuchen has reached death or a fate worse than that, Hei Xiazi is about to find out.

In terms of media I do not want any fanvids or moving gifs.

Sense8 AU: the above 5 characters and pick your 3, any three!  Bonus points for: character realizing they’re gay (or straight or bi) due to accidentally witnessing other characters; dealing with sex-repulsed ace in polycule, when others want to have sex.  

Liu Sang or Xiaoge (or both!) are cold and wet and just having a really hard time. The cold/wet one is touch averse and isn't close to anyone with them (yet?)that they would feel comfortable helping them but their fingers are too numb to take off their clothes and they need help if they don't want to freeze to death.

Summary: 

“Tianzhen, I want to teach you how to cook.”

This isn’t the first time Pangzi has made this attempt. It’s not even the twentieth. Pangzi lost count some time after that. But he clings to the hope that somehow this time will be different. That somehow retirement has magically removed Wu Xie’s ability to burn food just by looking at it.

“Focus,” Xiaoge says softly but firmly from where he’s perched on the counter near the door. It’s where he likes to sit when he’s watching Pangzi cook anyway, and if he happens to be close enough that he can intervene if Wu Xie does something stupid then that’s just a bonus as far as Pangzi is concerned.

“I am focusing,” Wu Xie replies with a pout. “Ooh, can we make steamed buns? Or noodles? Or, oh, I saw these really nice looking dumplings in a Douyin video and—”

Pangzi pokes him gently in the shoulder to bring his attention back to the lesson at hand. “You’re trying to run before you can walk. Now, just take a breath and listen to your Pang-ye. If you listen and do well I’ll reward you at the end.”

This is what he has been reduced to. Bribing one of his lovers as though he were a small child. And the sad thing is it works. Wu Xie’s eyes light up at the sound of reward and he immediately gives Pangzi all of his attention.

“Good boy,” Pangzi says and he doesn’t miss the way something flashes in Wu Xie’s eyes at the praise. That’s something for the three of them to revisit later. In the bedroom.

“The first thing you need to do,” Pangzi says as he sets a few things down on the counter in front of Wu Xie, “is familiarise yourself with your tools.”

He can already feel himself regretting everything about this venture when he picks up one of the kitchen knives. It’s not his best knife. He wouldn’t even let Xiaoge touch his best knife so he’s certainly not going to let Wu Xie near it.

“This is the most important utensil in the entire kitchen,” Pangzi says as he hands it over to Wu Xie.

“I know how to use a knife, Pangzi,” Wu Xie points out and then touches the blade with the tip of his finger to see how sharp it is. Blood wells immediately and Wu Xie hisses a curse.

So, time got a little away from me and I have abruptly realized that it's that time of year again. I wanted to put out a little post to gauge whether or not there is enough interest to run this exchange again this year. But I realize that time is of the essence if I want to get this up and off the ground any time soon.

So! How about a poll?

I also had a vague thought of perhaps adding videos as an option for what you can create for a recipient and adding the DMBJ mobile game as an option the way the Time Raiders movie is an option (i.e., you can choose it but it can't be your only option). So if you could sound off in the replies if either of those would be of interest to you, that would be appreciated. ^_^

i’m allowed to share this now since the anon period is over so here’s my modest contribution to the 2023 pingxie exchange!

i probably need to add on to the author’s notes somewhere maybe because i’m still not completely sure what this was trying to be. in a lot of ways it’s more of a wu xie character study during sand sea than it is a pingxie fic proper (though pingxie is a core part of it because of course it would be), and it wasn’t easy to write, partly because it’s very different from what i usually write, partly because wu xie during sand sea is. so multifaceted and raw in all his broken, spiraling parts we don’t even see all that much of which leaves a lot to inference and imagination. i’m not even entirely sure i did him justice, but i love him a normal amount despite how grueling the experience was so hopefully that at least came through
