2021 Retrospective: Best Opening of the Year

Jujutsu Kaisen OP 2 (Who-ya Extended – VIVID VICE)

This Opening shines with stellar animation accompanied by a banger of a song. It certainly felt like the most complete OP this year and Gojo’s eyes get featured twice in it so that only makes it better. Who-ya Extended also performed this song on the First Take and I’m not gonna lie, I do prefer that version of the song.

Honourable Mentions:

Moriarty the Patriot II OP (Tasuku Hatanaka – TWISTED HEARTS)

Twisted Hearts slaps even harder than DYING WISH. Tasuku Hatanaka has a very nice singing voice and I hope this will get him more recognition. I also think it’s very funny, that Dying Wish covers the plans and ambitions of the Moriarty brothers, but this one is just about the tangible gayness between Will and Sherlock.

Heaven’s Official Blessing (Japanese) OP (SID – Jiu no Kuchizuke)

Yes, the only reason this is mentioned, is because it’s by SID, don’t @ me. But honestly, it’s a very pretty song, for a very pretty show. And you should probably go check it out.

Heion Sedai to Idaten-tachi OP (Tatsuya Kitani – Seija no Koushin)

This OP just slaps way too hard. Tatsuya Kitani really has a great voice and I’d like to thank this show by making me check him out, because this guy is a newcomer you need to look out for. He’s just living the rule of cool on steroids and if he ever does a collaboration with Kenshi Yonezu I will straight up die.

While not my favourite OP of the year, I can acknowledge the sheer amount of Animation-Flexing in this. I don’t think I have ever seen properly animated tutting in any Anime and the first ten seconds alone are very pretty. The song is good too.
