"Pride can stand
A thousand trials
The strong will never fall
But watching stars without you
My soul cried
Heaving heart is full of pain
Oh, oh, the aching"

Watch "Des'ree - You Gotta Be ('99 Mix) [Video]" on YouTube
youtube
Released in 1994, this song had been a kind of anthem for me for almost 30 years. . .
"Listen as your day unfolds / Challenge what the future holds / Try and keep your head up to the sky / Lovers, they may cause you tears / Go ahead, release your fears / Stand up and be counted / Don't be ashamed to cry
You gotta be / You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser / You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger / You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together / All I know, all I know, love will save the day"

For the weirder ask thing
21, 27, 34
21 - something you’ve kept since childhood?
I actually still have my old blanket. It's actually a sheet. It's in really bad shape... Like, it used to be white and it's a dark yellow just from age and there was a tear in it nearly down then entire length in the middle and like an idiot I tried to glue it back together with carpet glue, which probably added to the yellow color. Can't wash it or it'll disintegrate, so it sits in a plastic bag buried deep in my closet for all of eternity. O.o
I used to have to sleep with it all the way until I was around 25 or so (and Deo and I had been together for 3 or so years and finally lived together now) and then I just... stopped needing it because Deo was there. ^^ So if you still have a blankie and think you're too old for it, know that even I had one until an embarrassingly old age, and you know what? I fully believe all of us have a blankie and keep it for our whole lives. Just sometimes, it takes different forms. 😊
27 - about how many hours of sleep did you get?
Five and a half. Woke up for a good 2 hours near the end, caught another thirty minutes or so, and now I'm up for the day. 😅
34 - is there a song you know every word to by heart?
There's a few actually. You Gotta Be by Des'ree was probably the first one I ever memorized. It's played during the credits of Karate Kid IV with Hilary Swank in it. I'd rewind the tape just to the beginning of the credits and listen to it over and over again and it made me so happy to hear it on the radio at random a year later. It was never a really big song, but it's still one of my many favorites. ^^ Also, the opening to Slayers. It's just got so much attitude and I loved singing it in Japanese, even though I didn't know what the words meant at the time. And this was before Google, so I had to translate the hiragana they thankfully had during the opening to get the words and just memorized them by singing it acapella all the time. It was probably the first Japanese song I ever memorized. (No, it wasn't Sailor Moon. :/ It might've been different if the Japanese song was played during the show instead of the English one. I didn't even know there was a Japanese version until five years later when I got my first OST. 😅)
Thanks for the ask, Jackie! It was very nostalgic. 💙
Ask Thing.
Here are links for the songs. And yes, I just checked, I still have them memorized.
