“At certain periods a nation may be oppressed by such insupportable evils as to conceive the design of effecting a total change in its political constitution; at other times the mischief lies still deeper, and the existence of society itself is endangered. Such are the times of great revolutions […]. But between these epochs of misery and of confusion there are periods during which human society seems to rest, and mankind to make a pause. This pause is, indeed, only apparent, for time does not stop its course for nations any more than for men; they are all advancing towards a goal with which they are unacquainted.”
— Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America (1835)[Exhaled Spirals]
In all seriousness, please don't get complacent during these midterms. Honestly, it could be the very last chance to even vote in a fair election ever again. With everything going on in the world now with Fascism on the rise yet again, not just in Europe when it comes to Russia trying to ruin it for everybody or dealing with other parts of the world were nationalism and authoritarianism also extremism is getting worse. If America doesn't get its collective shit together when it comes to voting during this election season...this country can pretty much say goodbye to democracy or any basic freedoms for good. A woman or anyone with a uterus right to make choices on their own bodily anatomy is on the line, gay marriage & LGBTQ rights are on the line, access to birth control is on the line, the right to vote, interracial marriage, or any other rights are truly at risk if America don't get it fucking shit in order to stop this growing fascism & dangerous extremism that's happening now due to QANON and MAGA & the rest of the GOP...then you can basically say hello to Russia 2.0 or have America to be no better than the rest of these other authoritarian regimes.
Hello, it's old Uncle Eli again, just popping in to remind my US based niblings that it's National Voter Registration Day...the most sacred and valuable of all US "holidays"!
Fuck Presidents Day, this is the good stuff. This is the day that you grasp some power and prepare to keep us from turning into Gilead like so many rich white men want us to.
Normally I'd be at my branch, cornering every 17 and 18 year old that comes in to beg them to exercise their voting rights while they still can but I'm on vacation and so you get the speech instead. You CANNOT let yourself be left out of the process, you MUST take your civic duty seriously, if not for yourself then for all your friends and neighbors who may get swept under the rug or swept away entirely by bad legislation and representation.
You matter every single day, by virtue of existing, but when it comes time to vote, you can be absolutely unstoppable. You can change history. But you gotta do it.
Anyway, if you're not registered yet, you can go here and get it done (or, you know, pop into a library and let another librarian give you this speech and help you fill out a card, I don't mind):
"America's Election Handbook 2024" offers a sharp analysis of the U.S. political party system, highlighting contrasts between major party positions and challenging the necessity and consequences of strict party loyalties. It delves into the evolving ideologies of political parties and critiques the minimal involvement of grassroots movements in decision-making processes, a factor it links to the growing divide in American politics.
The book advocates for open-minded dialogue and consensus in governance, reflecting the democratic ideals of the Founding Fathers. With a blend of proposals and factual analyses, it aims to stimulate more inclusive and representative discussions on governance.
A key aspect of the book is its examination of the principles of Washington, Jefferson, and Adams, drawing parallels between their original visions and today's political landscape.
"America's Election Handbook 2024" is dedicated to bridging political gaps. It serves as a comprehensive resource for voters, facilitating an understanding of party positions, encouraging well-informed discourse, and promoting solutions based on compromise. The handbook seeks to heal societal divisions and guide American society towards greater unity and cooperation.

CHRIS: “We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break the bonds of our affection.” Lincoln's words to a divided nation.
On July 18th, 2015, I realized that the Republican Party had left me behind. On this day, while seeking the Republican nomination for president, Donald Trump had the following to say about an Annapolis graduate who was shot down, captured and tortured as a POW by the communist North Vietnam regime:
“He's not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
This verbal diarrhea came out of the mouth of a man who used his father’s wealth and privilege to dodge the draft five different times due to his “bone spurs”. Donald Trump is a traitor, a repeated draft dodger and the largest fraud in the history of our country.
