alright since RGG seems bent on putting merch behind things like UFO catcher shit, here's my crappy how to use a proxy guide lol

gonna be using buyee as an example but most proxies are more or less the same so it's your choice on what to use. I look at fee prices and customer service reviews to decide on my proxies. sorry if it's wordy! but I think I cover the most important bits for general use.

so on the landing page you got all the goobly gook but what you'll mainly be looking at is the stuff in the red box. all the shops are listed there - the ones I mainly use are yahoo! japan auctions and mercari. the other shops are more like regular shopping sites. pretty much all proxies use the same sites as they're just a directory for wherever you wanna shop.

auctions are self explanatory - you bid on things till the time runs out or some auctions offer an immediate buyout price.

mercari is largely a secondhand seller marketplace but you can find companies on there as well.

when I search for stuff, I prefer putting in the actual terms for better accuracy over auto translating. so here I put in ryu ga gotoku (龍が如く). on buyee, I have rgg and dead souls as saved searches so I can just click on them to easily autofill the search bar which is handy.

items will populate and you'll see prices in yen and for me, usd. these are the *listing prices, not the *final price. since I'm using a proxy, there will be additional fees per item I get. also, the currency exchange rate occasionally changes so if something goes up or down in price, that be why.

💥 pls also note prohibited items that proxies cannot ship internationally such as items with flammable fluid which can include perfumes, lighters, etc. other things like alcohol, which may be okay for like 99% of countries is not okay, for example, in the US lol unless you go thru customs paperwork n shit. *ebay is usually where you want to go for prohibited items as those sellers *will go thru the process of filing the proper forms to send such items.

💥 pls be aware of scalpers! I tend to browse multiple pages and multiple listings of the same item to see what the prices typically fall around. if it looks too cheap, be aware of an item's description. if it looks too expensive, it probably is.

let's use this bad boy as an example. the main things you wanna look at on any item is the condition and the photos to be *sure* you are happy with what you're getting. if you see the same photos across listings, be a lil wary. you can see estimated shipping times and the seller's general ratings. always read item explanations if there is one in case the seller makes any notes of defects or other things.

you can add to shopping cart to keep browsing or you can go to the order page to immediately purchase.

so proxies typically have different plans you can choose when you buy items and that adds towards the fees. these can include inspections, insurance, etc of items when they arrive at the proxy warehouse (see your proxy's FAQ for plan descriptions). it's up to you what you deem worth choosing, if at all. for most things, I just go with whatever costs me 0 lol - especially if it's a cheaper item that I really don't feel needs to be inspected or insured, like a plushie or keychain. regardless of plan, you'll have to pay some proxy service fee (here the "buyee service fee"). in the top right, you'll see the total cost of everything. once you're happy, then you pick your form of payment. I usually go with paypal.

you can go to your page and see typical stuff like orders, settings, and the like. there's often specific tabs for certain sites like auctions so you can go there for anything you purchase in that way. the cart is anything you've added but haven't bought.

the orders tab is for anything bought and you may see the status of its shipping to the proxy warehouse which I'll get to in the next bit.

package information is everything that has arrived to the warehouse so here you can see I have 12 items currently waiting to be shipped to me.

user information, pretty basic but do MAKE SURE your addresses and things are 100% correct. it would really suck nuts if you pay out the ass for international shipping and it gets sent to the wrong place.

on the orders tab, you can see the status of the item. it contains important bits like date ordered and order # (I've blotted out mine). order received is *you* paying for the order. order completed is *buyee* paying for the order. shipped means the seller has shipped to buyee's warehouse address and arrived at warehouse is self explanatory.

*sometimes, a seller may cancel an order after you've paid for it and you will be refunded. this is often due to the seller unable to actually send the item for whatever reason or they don't sell to proxies. nothing you can really do about it but I've only had it happen a couple of times in dozens of purchases.

back to the package information tab, here you can see all the packages that have arrived at the warehouse waiting for shipment. proxies will store packages for free for a certain number of days - buyee being 30 while I've seen other go to 45 days, etc. after that time is up, you will be charged for storage per day so be aware of that!

here you can consolidate packages which means putting everything into one shipment instead of going individually. you can see estimated costs of shipping per item which, if you did each item individually, that would be mad expensive. when you consolidate, things can still be pretty pricey but imo better to pay idk 150 bucks in shipping for 10 items instead of 300 bucks for all 10 individually.

💥 shipping is calculated by weight so be aware of that when you buy items - however baseline costs will be the same for lighter items regardless of how much they weigh. baseline costs for me is around 15-30 bucks regardless of what I get. for example, I have a teeny tiny keychain in storage and several figures. the shipping for that keychain is the same cost as the figures so it's only sensible to lump them into one package cuz I ain't paying out the ass to ship 1 keychain lol.

you are free to consolidate what you want and how. if you wanna consolidate some packages to ship now and you wanna do others later, you are free to. just keep in mind your budget and storage time!

proxies also offer services to protectively wrap your packages. if you're concerned about damage, then choose that option when you consolidate. I don't often do it unless what I'm buying can break otherwise all my packages have arrived relatively unharmed.

💥 proxies will consolidate things AS IS so if you have a buncha figures that don't have their boxes, the proxy will put them in a shipping box just as they are, however they received them from the seller. so if the seller only bubble wrapped the figure, it will be sent to you just like that, no additional protection unless you pay for that option.

*consolidation can take some days and you'll be informed when items are ready to ship. at that point, you pay the shipping and that's it! you can choose what type of shipping you wanna go with (such as DHL, EMS, sea mail (if it's available), etc at differing prices and arrival times. pick what's best for you. *note, sea mail is often the cheapest but the slowest (like several months arrival time) and not available to every country (plus you'd want protective packaging for this just in case cuz boat rides be bumpy)

here are some examples of shipping costs for a single one of my items. some of these options will disappear when I consolidate cuz shipping a lil figure is very different from shipping a larger box full of multiple things.

one more thing proxies can do is order from a number of sites that aren't on the main page. for buyee, you want to go to the other sites information tab and then click "purchase request for other sites."

here you can input the information of whatever site you want to see if the proxy can purchase it for you. this is how I buy things on ebten like the jpn only preorders. if the proxy cannot buy the requested item, they'll let you know.

if they can go thru with the order, they will confirm your payment and it goes thru the same process as any other order.

forgive me if this question has an obvious answer (i'm pretty new to jellycats haha) but i was wondering, when you said the quality of the jellycats has decreased recently - what did you mean by that? as in the build and quality of the materials has reduced? also do you have any theories as to why this might be? i'm super curious if you have any theories because jellycat's whole appeal to me is the high quality! i hope the decrease in quality is temporary :(

This is a valid and important question considering recent events and I'm actually glad you asked!

First of all, I am with you in that I hope the decrease in quality is temporary because I have been a fan and lover of the brand (if you want to call me a collector fine) for years now and it would break my heart to let go of this major special interest of mine. It hurts and is making me very sad to see.

The quality has visibly reduced. The last two Jellycats I bought both had defects (one was the Splootie Puppy who I returned to the seller because he had a shedding problem and too few beans in his large body, he was losing fur without even being touched. He was also completely taken down from the Jellycat website not long after that and is presumably retired now) The other one's seams opened up after a couple of days and he needed to be repaired.

There has been a large number of quality problems ranging from seams opening up, arms and/or legs being sewn on the wrong way, literal holes in the Jellycat and changes in the fur. People have also reported problems with the eyes. The changes in the fur are most apparent in the Jellycat Bashful Bunnies. They used to have rounder faces and much longer, more "plush" fur. Now they all have more squared faces and the fur is shorter and you can see the lines where they have been sewn sometimes. Not all the bunnies are like this, but most of them. This is why I do not recommend ordering these online because it is likely you will get a defective one. Actually ordering Jellycats online is risky in all cases right now, if you can't inspect the Jellycat before buying, I would suggest you don't buy it at all.

To answer your question as to why this is happening: I think it has to do with terrible quality control by Jellycat coupled with over-production caused by the recent surge in popularity and demand. They seem to have moved on to mass-producing. The more popular a brand gets, the worse the quality (and customer service) gets apparently. The big problem is that Jellycat can get away with this because they are dominating the market. Unless enough customers complain (both direct customers and shops) and refrain from buying the products, nothing will change. I predict they will crash and burn at some point if they don't fix this mess because they simply cannot keep a company running like this.

So if you are new to Jellycats, try to find them in person and if you do order from Jellycat, please reach out and complain to them if there is anything at all wrong with your product! I have seen too many people brush off obvious flaws as "quirky" or "cute". It's not quirky or cute, it is a faulty product and you paid way too much money for it to not be perfect. They also keep raising their prices... Prices are going up and quality is going down. Please be careful when buying any Jellycats right now.

Kim Jong-un’s vile ‘Pleasure Squad’ where virgin schoolgirls are selected to ‘entertain’ North Korean rulers

It's made even more disturbing by the fact that some members of the Pleasure Squad are said to have been as young as 13, taken directly out of school into sex work. Defectors from North Korea even say the girls have to undergo invasive medical examinations to prove they're virgins before they can join.

Here's the disturbing story of how the Pleasure Squad was founded — and was brought back on the orders of Kim Jong-un.

The Pleasure Squad or Kippumjo began during the reign of North Korea's founder, Kim Il-sung, who is still considered the country's Eternal President, despite dying in 1994. In the late 1970s, at the height of his power, he sent out his officials to scour the nation for its most attractive young women and girls to act as singers and dancers. Some of them also began working as maids, but the most sexually attractive were ordered to become "comfort women" for powerful officials. Many were aged around 13 and 14, and were sometimes even recommended for the sick service by their schools. Kim Il-sung targeted virgins specifically because he believed having sex with them allowed him to absorb a girl's "ki" or life-force.

Authorities would tell the girls' parents their daughters were being taken on an important mission to serve Kim Il-sung, and they had no say in the matter. The girls would then be kept in party leaders' mansions and were expected to do whatever they were told. Officers in the North Korean military often took the women as wives after they were "retired" from their sexual duties in their 20s. 

Once they're taken into the Pleasure Squad, girls are then sorted into different units. Some are expected to sing and dance, while others primarily give massages and are sometimes even sent overseas for their training. But a third strand of the Pleasure Squad, the Manjokjo, are explicitly tasked with providing sexual services.

After Kim Il-sung's death, his son, Kim Jong-il, maintained the Pleasure Squad and had a string of mistresses to boot. And other members of the Kim dynasty were said to exploit the girls too.

Kenji Fujimoto, a sushi chef who worked for the Kims between 1989 and 2001, claimed that Kim Jong-il's brother, Jang Song Thaek, would "audition" girls for the dictator during his reign.

Only a few details of the Pleasure Squad's activities has been made known to anyone outside North Korea's cloistered communist regime. In 2010, a woman known as Mi Hyang defected to South Korea, claiming to have been in Kim Il-sung's Pleasure Squad for two years. She said she was recruited aged 15 while in school.

"They inspected all the female students and put aside some of them, including me, and made a detailed record of my family history and school record," she wrote on a blog. "I was asked whether I ever slept with a boy. I felt so ashamed to hear such a question."

Lee Il-nam, Kim Il-sung's nephew, mentioned the Pleasure Squad in a memoir he published while living in exile before being murdered in 1997. Lee painted a picture of wild parties at Kim's resident in Pyongyang which would last until the early hours of the morning focusing on booze and sex.

“The routine at the parties included eating, drinking and dancing, but usually ended with erotic games,” Lee wrote. “A favourite was a game in which the losers had to take off clothes one by one. It was enforced, regardless of men or women. "If they got heavily drunk, the also played a hair-shaving game. If men lost, part of their head hair was shaved, as if it was mown. For women, their pubic hair was shaved.” He added that some parties were solely devoted to sex when Kim was in a "particularly good mood".

The Pleasure Squad that was started in the 1970s disbanded when Kim Jong-il died in 2011 and his son Kim Jong-un came to power.

That's thought to be because Kim Jong-un was said to trust no one in his father's administration — including the women and girls of the Pleasure Squad.

"The women who entertained his father knew many secrets and they have now been ordered to promise not to reveal any information before being sent back to their hometowns", said Professor Toshimitsu Shigemura, a North Korea expert at Tokyo's Waseda University, The Telegraph reports.

Each of the women was thought to have been given pay-offs of around $4,000, which is a staggeringly large amount of cash in poverty-riddled North Korea.

They were also given electrical appliances to buy their discretion.

For four years, the Pleasure Squad was completely discontinued.

But then in 2015, reports emerged in South Korea that Kim Jong-un was on the hunt to recruit new girls and women for a Pleasure Squad entirely of his own.

Belarus, a country often described as Europe’s last dictatorship, has largely kept its military out of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but there are growing signs that may soon change. There has been an increase in trains transporting soldiers and equipment from the Russian border to the town of Brest in southwestern Belarus close to the border with NATO member Poland. According to the Russian Interfax news agency, Russian troops in Belarus will soon conduct tactical exercises.

Artyom, a former lieutenant colonel with Belarusian special operations forces who defected to Europe, spoke with Foreign Policy on the condition of anonymity from his country of asylum. He said deploying Belarusian troops to Ukraine would be a gamble for President Aleksandr Lukashenko. “Lukashenko is doing his best not to send the military to Ukraine. He understands that the only people who can keep him in power are the military and security services. If they go to Ukraine, they will either die or get wounded, and that could be a disaster for him,” he said. “He claims that ‘Poland plans to attack us,’ so we need to put a military on our border. He is, however, at the mercy of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”

Most agree that Lukashenko is reluctant to send his own troops to fight in Ukraine due to his precarious security situation at home following a series of mass protests in 2020 that were brutally repressed and led to mass political arrests. Hanna Liubakova, a Belarus expert and nonresident fellow with the Atlantic Council, said losing troops in Ukraine could create instability for Lukashenko in Belarus.

“Losing troops will build discontent in the country. We know through surveys that there is a large section of society against deployment of troops to Ukraine. It is hard politically to justify it,” she said. “The Belarus army consists of conscripts, young men who are not in high positions. They’re not motivated to fight. If their bodies come back to Belarus, it could start protests. It is hard to gauge how big they would be, but it would be a destabilizing factor for Lukashenko.”

Estimates of the number of troops currently at the border vary wildly, but Ukrainian security sources say they are preparing for more than 30,000 troops, including Russian reinforcements. Liubakova said Belarusian forces are a fraction of that figure. “At the beginning of the war, we had several battalions that were combat ready, and they totaled close to 10,000. Obviously, this is not enough to damage Ukraine, but for Lukashenko, losing those could be a problem,” she said.

Telegram channels set up by Belarusian transport workers are currently mapping the movement of soldiers and equipment to the Polish border. According to one widely read group, on one day last week 310 soldiers, along with equipment, were transported to Brest from the northeastern city of Vitebsk, about 60 kilometers from the Russian border. Meanwhile, satellite images show the movement of military vehicles through newly cut zig-zagging roads in another forested border region. This has worried Kyiv, which believes more than 20,000 Russian troops could mix with Belarusian battalions to form a new front.

According to Artyom, among the central motivations for Belarusian soldiers to remain in the military is explicit pressure by the government. “There were rumors that passports will be taken away from the military,” he said.

Vadzim Kabanchuk, deputy commander of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment—a regiment of Belarusian volunteers under the Armed Forces of Ukraine—believes Belarus will soon enter the war. “Eight out of 10 people in the military do not want to fight in this war. If they enter Ukraine, the military will fall apart. They will surrender—either by going to prison, or they will defect to our side. Lukashenko knows this, so he is trying to avoid it. That said, I think that the conflict will be escalated further outside of his control, including full mobilization and the involvement of Belarus’s military,” he said.

Despite this, the heavily mined border region will be difficult for Belarusian troops to cross without high casualty figures, and some claim that the buildup is part of a strategic information operation to distract Kyiv with a new front as the country continues to battle Russian troops in the south and east of the country.

Liubakova said that, despite the continuing buildup of troops, an immediate attack is unlikely but possible. “I think this is an information operation organized by Russia, and this is how the regime is helpful. They’re working on this with Russia,” she said. “I don’t think the immediate attack is possible because there are not enough troops ready to attack. But again, a lot of people got it wrong last February, and for Putin, gaining Kyiv is the most logical point from a military perspective. The fastest way to get to Kyiv is through Belarus.”

A November intelligence report by the British Ministry of Defense reported that two MiG-31K Foxhound interceptor jets were likely parked at the airfield in Machulishchy, in southern Minsk. There have been reported sightings in the region of a canister that’s believed to hold the Russian air ballistic missile Kinzhal (dagger), the crown jewel of the MiG-31K arsenal. The British Ministry of Defense believes the canister is part of an information operation announcing Belarus’s increased involvement in the war.

One certain loser in the new offensive is Lukashenko, whose delay in sending troops has afforded him a certain favor with his own people that could sour quickly if trucks bearing the notorious “Cargo 200” sign—used for corpses—arrive in Belarus back from the front.

For Artyom, who is one of a handful of high-level defectors from Belarus, it’s easy to see how joining the war in Ukraine could create chaos for Europe’s last dictator. There is a large amount of support for Russia inside the army but also a lack of motivation to fight for Putin.

“They are being told that [Russia’s war crimes] are part of psychological warfare. Some believe in what Lukashenko says. Many of these guys never left Belarus or, in the best-case scenario, went on military training exercises in Russia,” he said. “Many support Russia, but no one wants to fight for them. They know it is not their war.”

Many of Tuesday morning's papers carry the surprising news, announced by national rail carrier VR late on Monday evening, that all long-distance train traffic will be cancelled on Tuesday due to "safety reasons".

Tampere-based Aamulehti carries an STT article to report that damage was observed on the wheels of some rolling stock on Sunday, leading VR to begin carrying out a wider inspection of the track network.

According to VR on Tuesday, overnight inspections pinponted the defects, described as bumps, in the track.

"This decision [to shut down traffic] was made for safety reasons. We are working non-stop together with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency so that the fault can be located and traffic can be safely re-started as soon as possible," Aamulehti quotes VR's long-distance transport director Piia Tyynilä as stating in a company press release.

The statement adds that VR will provide further updates on Tuesday as to when rail traffic will return to normal.

The company also said that political strike by rail workers, which halted traffic nationwide on Monday, also caused delays to the inspection process.

Helsingin Sanomat reports the findings of a University of Jyväskylä doctoral thesis, which is titled The Working Underclass: Highly educated migrants on the fringes of the Finnish labour market.

Kenyan student Quivine Ndomo's journey towards her doctoral research began in 2016 when she discovered that three of her compatriots, all with university qualifications, could only secure jobs in Finland as cleaners or newspaper couriers, according to the paper.

Her research argues that immigrants in Finland, especially those coming from African countries, are an "underclass" in the Nordic country and that prospective employers use the Finnish language as an excuse not to hire them.

Ndomo herself faces the very challenges she writes about in her thesis, noting that she was recently passed over for a position she considered herself perfectly qualified for, as her Finnish language skills were not up-to-par.

This experience has led Ndomo to consider her own future in the country.

"I love Finland, but I am ambitious and I will go where I can continue my career," she tells the paper.

After obtaining proper consent, the patient was brought to the Operating Room and anesthesia was induced.

They were placed in the low-lithotomy position and prepped and draped in the standard sterile fashion.

A 21-French ACMI rigid cystoscope with a 30 degree lens was placed in the bladder without difficulty and the bladder was inspected.

No stones or lesions were seen and the right ureteral orifice was identified in its orthotopic position.

The previously placed stent was grasped and brought to the urethral meatus.

The ureter was intubated with a sensor wire through the previous stent and was advanced to the renal pelvis under fluoroscopic guidance.

The previously placed stent was then removed and discarded.

A ureteral access sheath was then placed over the wire without difficulty.

A flexible ureteroscope was then advanced up to the renal pelvis.

Extensive laser lithotripsy was then performed on this large stone until all residual fragments were 2 mm or less.

Vacuum Stone aspiration was then performed with the CVAC device.

Flouroscopy was performed to guide the aspiration of stones and stone fragments were captured for analysis in a trap used in the suction tubing.

Retrograde pyelogram was performed by injecting 6 cc of Omnipaque.

The patient had normal renal anatomy with some mild upper pole caliectasis.

A filling defect of stone fragments was noted in the renal pelvis.

All calyces were inspected for residual stones on repeat ureteroscopy.

A few residual pieces were removed by basket stone extraction.

No residual stone fragments over 1 mm were present on final inspection.

The flexible ureteroscope was then removed, leaving a wire in the renal pelvis, and the ureter was carefully inspected during withdrawal.

A 24 centimeter x 6-French Double-J ureteral stent was then placed over the wire.

Excellent positioning of the stent was confirmed by a curl in the renal pelvis and a curl in the bladder.

The bladder was then drained.

The patient tolerated the procedure well and was transferred to the Recovery Room in good condition at the conclusion of the operation.
