DDWCaPH! Chapter 6 Spoilers

Do you remember what happened after your In Auctorem Credimus MC woke up after packing up for their expedition?

Yup. Originally, Dear Diary MC just wakes up to some tropical snow and aurora borealis in the sky, before the bedtime story villains invade the school through a plot hole. But what if they wake up as a 9-year-old on the date of the cursed fieldtrip?

It's one-half flashback, one-half time travel, and a whole load of anachronisms. Everyone in F6E still remembers everything that happened after that, and everyone still has what they had before that: all the trinkets you've collected and stuff you've written in your diary, and all the gifts Rosie received on her 12th birthday.

I love this idea for a bunch of reasons:

You get to experience a little bit of MC's backstory without going through a flashback, and it opens up a lot of interesting character interactions and choices that wouldn't be possible otherwise, such as MC being short enough to ride the Paddy Express again, or pretending to have never seen your bestfriend before.

MC and Twin's big fight is also interesting to look at: if it hasn't happened yet in this timeline, did they actually fight before, or are they fighting about something that they only think will happen? What if you pretend to have no memory of it? And with all the knowledge that you have, can you prevent it from happening again? (Which is doubly interesting for me, as resetting the day through the diary is one of the concepts I wanted to explore before I did the rewrite)

And of course, I get to write MC and F6E as 9 year olds again. Well, not really since everyone in F6E still retains their memory, but after aging them up from 9 in the first draft, I never thought I'd get to do that again unless it's a flashback. Plus, fighting the villains is going to be more intimidating when you're suddenly back to your younger self.

Also, I needed an excuse to draw chubby Wayne with a missing tooth. Hehe.

Not to mention, doing this actually reduces the amount of branches I need to write (finally a decision that lessens the amount of work I need to do for once).

And don't worry: MC and everyone in F6E reverts back to their original ages at the start of Volume 2.

A bit late, but do you remember the old crossover writing DDWCAPH (dear diary we created a plot hole) author did once? I think it was a little prompt writing of theirs but they put your emery in it as a little crossover. Well guess what. I finally finished their latest story update and- THE AUTHOR ACTUALLY PUT EMERY IN THE STORY!!! AND HE SHOWS UP QUITE A FEW TIMES!!! IT'S SO ADORABLE (If you're wondering i think it's in chapter 4 and 5)

Yeah, I'm totally aware, don't worry! Ate Franz (the author) did a great job characterizing Emery and at the same time putting her own little spin on him. My heart melted when I found out (from what I can remember) that Emery has a little owl backpack. I consented to let Ate Franz use Emery however she wishes in her story, if you're wondering. So no one better go to her and argue about "Emery being my character and about how I didn't consent to her using him in her story", or I will bite your ankles off your damn feet and throw you off a cliff.

I just feel really honored and also grateful that Ate Franz did the effort to make Emery show up a few times in TWO (two is alot) chapters without making it feel forced or jarring. Deep respect and admiration to Ate Franz y'all. Go read her IF and her other works, it's awesome, they're great, and absolutely fun to read, I promise you.

rules: post the names of all the files in your wip folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have wips. this is for both art and writing.

I’m really neat about my file-naming system for CT:OS and Merry Crisis, so my answer for those will be extremely boring, I’m afraid - suffice to say, things are progressing in highly unchronological writing order, even though all my files are numbered :P

Other choicescript WIP ideas

Elven tavern - you’re a grizzled and cynical soldier who went AWOL (escaped through the desert after a disastrous incident), and now you keep a low profile running a tavern (long story) for humans and elves on a busy road very close to the border, as tensions between nations/kingdoms run at an all-time high. hang out with regulars, go on quests, be an extremely grumpy drunk (or an actually decent tavern-keep)

Silver bullet - you’re a struggling wannabe actor/actress who gets their first real break. You play a fresh-faced cop in a multi-season action/thriller tv-show, who goes deep undercover with a mafia family. ‘fall in love’ with the mafia boss’s child (and with the co-star in real life), or with the director, producer, or your agent. bring your own flair to the role (acting chops, acrobatic stuntwork, literary intelligence, or charm). 

Post apocalyptic - star-wars-style space opera meets chinese ‘wuxia’. you’re a scavenger on a dirt-poor planet, and get swept up in a revolution.

Soccer game - what “CT:OS” was before it was tennis

Cafe game - didn’t get very far, but basically “elven-tavern”, except it’s modern day and you run a cafe instead of a tavern, because i love my local cafes and spend way too much time people-watching in them.

And... I won’t even go into my unfinished fanfic files that I’ve abandoned over the years :P

New MC Heritage Options

Hello everyone! So I’ve received several suggestions to include additional heritage options for MC, especially for the supernatural genre. I was planning on expanding your genre/heritage choice in later volumes as MC discovers more about their story world, but I figured it might be a better idea to establish that earlier in the prologue instead.

And then I thought, what if the fantasy heritage options were a universal choice instead of being limited to fantasy?

So, all genres will now allow you to select MC’s Heritage:

• Human Heritage • Elven Heritage • Orcish Heritage • Dwarven Heritage • Halfling Heritage • Gnomish Heritage • Goblin Heritage • Draconic Heritage • Fae Heritage

In addition, some genres will allow you to select a more specific origin on top of MC’s heritage:

Sci-Fi:

Extra-Galactic Adaptability: Will now allow MC to be a more proper alien by letting you select which attribute to specialize in (Vigor/Grace/Knowledge/Charm). The choice that increases Vigor will now mention MC having tougher skin, for example.

Mythology:

• Divine Ancestry • Nephilim Ancestry • Cambion Ancestry

Supernatural:

• Werewolf Ancestry • Vampiric Ancestry • Nephilim Ancestry • Cambion Ancestry • Enchanter Ancestry

Additional Notes:

The [Fae Heritage] will be the catch-all for most other fantasy beings, so you can headcanon whatever creature is your MC’s heritage.

The [Divine Ancestry] option for Mythology is the same as the current one. But now MC can have nephilim/cambion ancestry instead of being a demigod.

I think I’ll stick with werewolves as the only shifter option, as they’re the most popular. If I ever decide to add more options, they’ll have to be canines, but don’t quote me on that.

I went with “enchanter” rather than witch/wizard/sorcerer/etc. as I think it’s the most fitting and neutral name for the option.

The [Divine Ancestry] and [Enchanter Ancestry] will also be the only available option for MCs with Fae or Draconic Heritage if you choose Mythology or Supernatural. Otherwise, we’ll end up with dragon werewolves. While that sounds cool, it’s a little too much for me, even with the plot hole excuse.

Genre passives will now also grant you Bonus EXP when you are in a story world/setting of the same genre. Since the Adventure genre has a lot of overlap, the bonus EXP will be active whenever you have the [Adrenaline Rush] Status Effect instead.

I’ll have to rewrite the prologue a bit, but this will make the (previously) fantasy-exclusive flavor text and special interactions become more worthwhile to write.

There won’t be any exclusive heritage scenes until you arrive in MC’s story world, so the additional workload should be minimal. Plus, you can now have elf detectives, orc superheroes, halfling werewolves, or dwarves in space! 😄 Fantasy has always been the most popular genre, so this should also help in balancing things out a bit.

Nothing’s concrete for now, but I’ll definitely have to adjust the bonus stats and effects. Please let me know your thoughts! 😊

So I'm looking through my notes for the IAC update, and then I thought, what if instead of just a single story, I turn IAC into an anthology of sorts?

There's a lot of side characters in DDWCaPH! (like the other parents of F6E members) whose backstories I'd like to explore, and this would be the perfect platform to write them in (and maybe add a few choices in as well).

It could also have some alternate universe short stories as well, and it wouldn't be out of place at all.
