“I didn’t really think about it.” Markus said once while they were arguing.
North blinked.
Markus stayed silent.
“You didn’t really think about it.”
Markus nodded, his face angled slight away from her as if he didn’t want to see her reaction. North took in a deep breath. She hoped that, since humans usually took a deep breath when they were exasperated, it would help her. Unfortunately, humans prove to be unreliable once again.
“You are capable of of running at least 12,000 trillion operations at the same time and you just didn’t think about it.”

It's Norkus November! Today, on November 20th, the prompt is "first/last". I wrote a little ficlet describing some of the events in DBH from North's perspective, a little artistic freedom included :) I haven't written anything for a while, so I hope you enjoy!
First/Last
When North talked to him for the first time, she thought he was incredibely rude. Asking her about her past like it was his business, not considering that her life started when she left it behind. She still supported his plan to get spare parts though, eager to finally do something, to fight for her freedom.
(Hopefully, Markus would too.)
When Markus successfully stole a truck full of spare parts, North started to feel hope - maybe for the first time. The way he talked, the way he moved, the way he so easily captured their attention ... he fascinated her, the same way Jericho had fascinated her the first time she had heard about it.
(Hopefully, Markus wouldn't disappoint her the same way Jericho had.)
When Markus successfully infiltrated the Stratford Tower, she smiled at him and said: "Maybe you're the one we've been waiting for," admitting it not only to herself, but also to him. He returned her smile, but didn't have time to respond before the soldiers broke down the door. Quickly, they all jumped from the roof, already wondering how Markus's action would change their fate.
(Hopefully for the better.)
When North and Markus attacked a CyberLife store, freeing its androids, she was taken aback by seeing her own model. She had avoided looking for it ever since her deviation, but she should have known that she wouldn't be able to escape her past forever. Markus distracted her from her thoughts, but it didn't last long. After he send the humans their message, two policemen attacked them - and her twin jumped in front of her, saving North and sacrificing herself. North stared at her blankly, not quite believing what just happened. They killed her. She felt tears streaming down her face, tears of horror and tears hatred, tears of sadness and tears of sorrow. She didn't stop them.
(Hopefully, Markus would avenge the ones they lost.)
When Markus rallied the androids for a freedom march, North felt captivated by the atmosphere, by the sheer number of androids joining them, by their passionate chants. She chanted as well, crying out for freedom, for equal rights, for everything she had ever wanted. She lost herself in this moment, completely absorbed by the atmosphere, by the hope Markus was bringing to them and to her. She looked at him and her heart skipped a beat.
(Hopefully, she would find the courage to tell him the truth.)
When she and Markus were alone in the captain's cabin, she finally admitted to herself that she liked him far more than she had previously thought, far more than she had ever anticipated. She looked him in the eyes and gave him the answer she previously hid, the past she had wanted to forget. Markus returned her gaze with a sorrowful expression, and when he held out his hand, she clasped it in hers. They connected with each other, and for the first time in her life, North felt understood, accepted, like someone whose life was actually important.
(Hopefully, it was.)
When they got cornered by the military, North already prepared for the inevitable, hoping that her death would at least inspire the ones after her. It was a selfish wish, true, but in this moment, it was the only thing she dared to hope. But then, Markus turned towards her. Looked her in the eyes. Gently put his hand on her cheek, waited, gave her the choice. And suddenly, she knew that her wish to be remembered wasn't the only wish she had. She leaned forward and kissed him, and he kissed her back, and suddenly, nothing else seemed to matter, because in this moment, it didn't.
(And hopefully, it would never do.)

Happy Valentine's Day, all. As a reminder in this increasingly scary science-fiction world we're living in, AI is still pretty bad at being human. Just check out ChatGPT's attempts at romance (I guess we'll still have to wait fifteen years for the real thing).

Credit to VGS on YouTube for the screenshots, as per usual (honestly a fantastic channel for finding DBH content).

It's the last day of Norkus November! On November 26th, the prompt is "we are alive/the revolution". And what better way to end it than with the revolution itself? Or rather, a certain outcome I gave my own ending to ;)
We Are Alive/The Revolution
They lost.
North couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe it. After all the time they spend fighting for their lives, they would lose it in an abandoned store, defeated by their makers, without a way to make an impact, without a way to change something.
Markus's eyes found hers, despair shining in them. He looked as exhausted as North felt, and guilt spread across his face when she returned his gaze.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I failed. You trusted me, and I failed."
North shook her head. "They were too many. It wasn't your fault, Markus." We were doomed from the moment we started to demand freedom. It hurt to admit this, but they never stood a chance. Never had a chance.
And now, they would never have one again.
"North," Markus said with a shaky breath, his voice sounding mechanic, like something had damaged his voice modul during the fight. "North, you need to get out of here."
She stared at him. "What?"
"I'll surrender," Markus said to her shock. "This will give you enough time to escape. If only one of us can make it, it should be you."
No. North didn't even realize that she had spoken the word out loud until Markus answered.
"Yes," he said fiercely. "If we both die, there's no hope for us left. You have to continue on. Please, North."
He sounded so desperate. North felt tears streaming down her cheeks. She didn't want to leave him. She rather wanted to sacrifice herself. She didn't want to carry their legacy, she didn't want to leave him to die. What would she even do after she escaped? She didn't have the means to continue their revolution, and after everything she experienced, she wasn't sure if she even wanted to.
"But ... why can't you go too? Are you injured? I don't – I don't want to ..." She didn't finish her sentence, but Markus understood.
"Yes, I am, but that's not why I want you to leave. I ... I love you, North. I don't want to lose you. If we both escape, we will get caught – especially me. They know what I look like, they can find me. But you ... you can just blend in. You can disguise yourself, find some place to hide, maybe even a place to live. But you can't do it with me."
He was crying now too, and the sight almost hurt her more than his words. She didn't want to do this. She knew it was a simple, a logical choice, the only way for her to live ... but –
But –
"North."
Markus was looking at her now, and his expression sent shivers down her spine. She never saw it on him before, or at least not to this extensity – he looked so firm, almost stern, like the time for negotiations was over. And it probably was; outside, North heard the soldiers, demanding them to leave with their hands raised. She looked at Markus.
"Go," he said to her. "Please."
She kissed him.
"I love you," she whispered against his lips, then backed away and stood up. "I will always love you."
Markus nodded, and North didn't waste any more time. She fled, her heart pounding with regret, a part of her screaming for her to go back. She suppressed it, suppressed her feelings, any emotion that dared to make its way towards the surface.
She needed to escape. She owed it to him. Markus had sacrificed himself for her, and North wouldn't let his sacrifice go to waste. She had no idea what she would do now, her future resembled this crumbling store, but she would find a way to make it work.
For Markus – and for herself.

"My heart is beating inside your chest. I'll always be with you." "Set our people free, Markus..."
"What's the point of being free if no one is left alive?"
a digital sketch of the characters north, markus, and simon from detroit: become human. markus is in the middle of the composition, from about the hips up, in his final outfit from crossroads, his back arched backwards slightly as he looks up. the skin on his face is metal where north’s hands touch him. north is on the left of the composition, slightly behind markus, she’s holding his face and looking to him with awe and worry. she’s in her final outfit from crossroads. simon is on the right of the composition. he’s positioned behind markus as well but slightly higher, his arm wrapped around the front of markus’s torso and holding his waist. his face is slightly obscured by markus’s face, he is whispering in his ear. there are 3 disembodied hands coming from the right side of the piece, reaching for markus, the middle hand holds his throat. the drawing is semi realistic, with thin, sketchy lines. no coloring.
