Nite & Daye (Snippet #2)
Here it is finally, as promised! I'm not entirely proud of this one but I want to share my writing no matter if I think it's good or bad (':
Snippet description: Amoris arrives at the meeting place, waiting for Rachel. He has an encounter with a woman from Aleah's past. AKA Eli doing some character introductions with a speck of worldbuilding.
Snippet Word Count: 924
Total Word Count: 8,059
cw: none <3
Please enjoy!
a/n: Amoris = Nite (in case you forgot!)
Amoris checked to see if Rachel had arrived yet and after seeing no sign of her, he made his way into the bar. The sight of dark green carpet and deep red walls always threw him through a loop. Normally such a combination would be displeasing to him but this place somehow made it work. Maybe it had to do with the dark cherrywood bar in the center of the main room or the clacking of pool bars in the room next over. Either way, it paired nicely and made it a decent place to sit and stay for a while.
He made his way to the bar where the barkeep stood behind, drying a couple of glasses. As he sat on one of the barstools, the bartender looked him up and down before setting the glass in her hand down. She tossed the towel over her shoulder and leaned forward, resting on crossed arms.
"What can I get ya?" she asked.
"I'm alright, thanks. I'm just waiting for someone," he replied, turning to the side a bit so he could see the front door.
"I said, 'what can I get ya?'," she said with a little more exertion. Amoris furrowed his brows slightly and refused to look at her. It was like that for a moment, Amoris staring at the door, the bartender staring holes into the side of his head. Amoris swallowed hard, feeling like the pressure would start to get to him. In all honesty, how bad would it be if he ended up celebrating a little earlier than expected?
"You heard him, Phoenix. He said he was waiting for someone. Just give him a water for now." A new voice seemed to come from thin air and Amoris turned around in the stool to face the other person. He was about to say "thank you" when the sight before him caused the words to die in his throat.
Very few people these days wouldn't recognize the name of Mattias Cross but upon seeing her as she was now, few would forget her. For many in this world, eyes were a sign of identity. A lot could be told about someone from the color of their irises alone. However, what of someone whose eyes were constantly covered by a set of thick, dark bandages? Amoris, though, knew exactly who she was.
With a small smile adorning her lips and wavy hair that framed her face, Amoris perfectly understood why Aleah would have ever fallen for her in the first place. He stared down at the tattoos climbing up her arms and despite knowing that she also owned the parlor upstairs, the faint shimmering around the edges of them told Amoris that it was a glamour. Interesting, he thought.
As if sensing what Amoris was doing, the barkeep, Phoenix, slammed a glass of water in front of Amoris, startling him from his thoughts. He stared down at the water droplets now resting upon his sleeve and exposed skin. Mattias tapped the top of the bar and Phoenix turned away, heading somewhere toward the back.
"You'll have to forgive her. She's quite protective." Mattias said, her smile deepening slightly.
"You could tell what I was doing?" He asked, picking up the glass and taking a sip.
"It's not often you see someone of your kind, let alone see them walk into my bar." Her smile now showed her teeth and Amoris felt his shoulders begin to tense.
"And they say you are blind." Mattias chuckled at his words.
"Not as blind as the youth I'm afraid, my child." Amoris' lips twitched at the barely concealed insult. He took another sip of his water. As he set the glass back down on the bar, a bell rang signaling the entrance of another person.
"My am I such an honored patron tonight." Amoris could hear the laugh in her voice. Her looks could entrap almost anyone but her attitude just as easily drove them away. It made him really start to question Aleah's taste. Although he wasn't sure why. She had always had an interesting track record.
"Can it, Matty. If I wanted to deal with any more snarkiness than I'm going to, I would've brought Merel with." Rachel looked over at Amoris, who now glanced at her over his shoulder. She made a gesture towards the door. "You coming or do you want to continue your very clearly pleasant conversation?"
"Oh, Rachel. You know I wasn't trying to be mean, I was just teasing the boy a little bit." Rachel rolled her eyes.
"I can't stand old geezers and their 'teasing'. Let's go, Amoris. Don't want to keep everyone waiting." Amoris got up from his seat without a glance backward. He walked past Rachel before she followed him out of the bar. They kept walking until they made it to the back of the building where a small parking lot was. It was unsurprising the lack of cars, the only being a tan Cadillac parked crookedly.
"I can see why you're rarely allowed to drive," he commented after seeing the parking job.
"You can it too. I'm the one who does all the driving, you're just the only one who complains." Rachel ripped the door opened and slipped inside the car. Amoris followed suit, although not abusing the door like the driver had. He sat down on the leather seats and watched as Rachel put the key in the ignition, starting the car. She didn't bother waiting for Amoris to put his seatbelt on before ripping out of the parking lot and taking off.

Hi! If it isn't spoilers, can I ask who Sunni Hayes is?
Sunni Dayes is the girl that has a “small” crush on Jay in Chapter 35 of Book 2! She’ll become far more relevant in Seasons 3 and 4, and aspires to be a meteorologist! During summer break of 20X2, she interns with Gayle Gossip and works as a weather girl in the broadcasting center (which happens to be the same building where they film Jay’s game show snksnksnk). Despite the crush, she and Jay aren't endgame or anything, but she does become a source of support for when Jay’s feeling low about himself during all those...turbulent moments through those seasons. She is descended from the Element of Light as a Non-Inheritor, and is a distant, distant relative of Paleman.
Her best friend is a girl named Samantha (one of the student council kids and the one lowkey into Jesse snksnk), who eventually becomes one of the Green Ninja’s biggest fans (and based on a minifigure from Ninjago City Gardens just for fun and world building purposes :P)
(But anywaaaay, Jay just always seemed like he needed another friend or two outside of his main circle...not unlike Cole)
