Jennifer, 2021 End of the Party

A lot of credit to this final shoot I did with @jpace and @darknessatnoon should go to @jpace. I simply had a title and cared only about getting one last opportunity to shoot with a select group of people who defined this period of my career, she came in with props and ideas that make this one really stand out amongst the others. What I really appreciate about her is her meticulous attention to detail, I myself often struggle with the details. Too often I get this tunnel vision about the emotion of a shoot or the technical aspect of focus and exposure that I can let elements creep into the image I didn’t notice or intend for. So getting to work with @jpace (though far too little) was always a really nice treat.

Day turns into Night. Seeing our first solar eclipse in totality was an extraordinary visual experience. We were so fortunate to view the Eclipse from the top of @grandtargheeresort . The epic view of the Tetons with the eclipse above, all while watching the shadow of the moon as it traveled across the valley from the west. The low midday clouds suddenly turned the color of sunset peach, day turned to night, and a cold evening chill enveloped us. It was as if our entire concept of time had become compressed, "real time" felt like hyper time lapse . When you first felt that weakness. The trembling and the feeling that the darkness is creeping in. You see the darkness. You cannot stop it. The thoughts, the craziest thoughts. So unreal. When it goes, so will you. You must feel it until the end. The question now is, will you let it take you sooner or later? Dont let it take you, you tell yourself, but some days its just unbearable. Kelly, 2021 End of the Party

I was extremely grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to shoot at all last spring, but this shoot in particular reminded me what I felt the pandemic robbed from me and so many others. It was @jpace who introduced me to @darknessatnoon via instagram and I had hoped to work with her but the world shut down just as I was beginning to shoot in 2020. Of all the work I did before my move this shoot above the others represents lost opportunity. I don’t want to write off that I will never work with any of these amazing people again, but if losing an entire year of work taught me anything it’s that I should take the opportunities when they come and treat them all as if they could be the last. So this shoot was bittersweet, I probably could have said that from the beginning. It was also a ton of fun, and the results are pretty magical.
