Andy and Danai forever have my heart and I’m entirely grateful for what they have done with this story and show. This was an absolute perfect ending to the story of rick and michonne grimes. I am still not okay and recovering from the finale but I definitely will be. Because we as a fandom have won because of the moat amazing actors that care and love these characters and stories just as much as we do. It’s been so long but I am so happy and content and emotional right now 😭 Rick grimes started this journey 14 years ago looking for his family and now he’s back. This is the most beautiful ending to their story. I absolutely adore these characters. THANK YOU ❤️🥺

THE ONES WHO LIVE EPISODE FOUR: WHAT WE
[WRITTEN BY DANAI GURIRA]
-> Vulture: After some tedious lies and deceptions, in Michonne’s words, they needed a time-out. That’s exactly what they get in one of the best stand-alone episodes in all of The Walking Dead. (…) It’s like watching a two-person play, which makes sense, as the episode’s writer, Danai Gurira (Michonne herself), is an acclaimed and Tony-nominated playwright (…..) “What We” is not a bottle episode. Multiple sets in a single location, two characters with an internal conflict, and the special-effects budget make it a “Suitcase” episode. Editors Rating: 5 stars
Bloody-Disgusting: Andrew Lincoln once again showcases a masterclass of acting as Grimes cycles through his damaged psyche, desperately trying to figure out how to connect with Michonne. Gurira matches Lincoln’s emotional performance, evoking Michonne’s desperation and anger with authenticity. Letting Gurira take over writing duties for this specific episode proved extremely beneficial given the emotional legwork the character trudges through in this particular installment. If there’s anyone who can understand Michonne the best, it’s Danai Gurira.
The Hollywood Reporter: As the writer of the episode, Gurira felt she clearly understood Michonne’s arc, but she wanted to make sure her co-star and fellow executive producer Lincoln had enough meat to sink his teeth into, as well. “You want to give an actor like him everything you can,” she says. “Andy’s such a fantastic actor who throws everything into it. I was keen to give him that workout.” Lincoln added to THR, “It was thrilling to do all of this with friends, but Danai had one heck of a role as well as showrunning the fourth episode as an added responsibility. I thought the work she did on that was an astonishing testament to her skills, especially because apparently she only needs two hours a day to sleep.”
Den of Geek: To call it a bottle episode is dismissive. Certainly, there’s one major setting, and most of the episode contains little in the way of special effects (by the standards of the average Walking Dead Televisual Universe show). However, most bottle episodes aren’t this interesting, or this gripping. “What We” feels like The Walking Dead taking a stab at doing a spinoff of the Richard Linklater Before trilogy, not wallowing in the usual zombie action or soap opera frippery. It’s almost certainly going to be polarizing, but it’s one of the most captivating, emotionally-deep episodes of television from this universe, and it’s all down to the powerhouse that is Danai Gurira.
SpoilerTV: “What We” is a captivating exploration of love’s transformative force. Rick and Michonne shed their pretenses, abandoning deceit to forge a profound reconnection. Andrew Lincoln’s performance brilliantly resurrects Rick from the abyss of a living man who is dead inside, courtesy of Danai’s masterful writing.
Bleeding Cool: But it’s Gurira pulling double duty that deserves all of the attention and tons of praise. Proving that she knows this couple and their dynamic better than anyone, Gurira presented us with what felt like a real couple going through the problems with real reactions- even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. I know that reviews can sometimes go to the extremes-positive or negative- but in the case of “What We”, we have an easy contender for one of the best single episodes of the franchises run.

What a joy and an honor to have loved Richonne's epic love story as hard as we could while we could. 🥹
Richonne means so very much to me and always will. To say their story has impacted my life for the better would honestly be an understatement. Rick and Michonne and their journey together from season 3 to TOWL played a part in keeping me going because life gets hard but the love captured between these characters is such an inspiring light that is exquisite and powerful and worth sticking around to behold.
And while 'it feels like it's ending'…it’s like Michonne said - they don’t die and neither does the love we have for them. We’ll be able to cherish Richonne and every single breathtakingly beautiful moment they gave us always. Richonne are the ones who live, the ones who love like no other, and the ones who will eternally hold a special place in my life.
This one-of-a-kind, out-of-this-world, moving beyond-words love story between profound soulmates Rick and Michonne Grimes - two of the greatest characters in media brought to life by the phenomenal Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln, two of the greatest actors in the craft - it lives on forever. And for that, I’m truly thankful. 🤍
Rick and Michonne got their happy ending with their precious children. 😭 They won. We won. 🙌🏽🎉
Tumblr media
Also! In honor of that deleted picnic scene, (which I would have loved to see make the final cut) I just thought I'd share my little headcanon ending scene. A few days before the towl finale, I had this vision of a Grimes Family picnic moment being the final shot of the show, but of course, my vision includes a Carl cameo to complete the Grimes Family moment. This is what I had written down and imagine as a day for their family now that they're back together as they're meant to be:
Rick and Michonne have another Family Fun Day picnic with their kids. There’s this calm quiet moment where Judith is snuggled up to Michonne happily reading the book her parents brought home for her on the blanket, RJ is resting with Rick’s arm around him, Michonne is nestled by Rick’s side, and then Rick looks out and sees essentially the spirit of Carl standing from afar. Rick and his son share this warm smile as Carl gives a proud nod signaling this is everything he’s wanted for his dad - to feel safe and happy with their family just like Carl wrote to Rick in his letter.
And then Michonne looks at Rick and asks, “You see something?” And Rick just looks in Michonne’s eyes, smiles at her and says a content, “Yeah” before kissing her - finally seeing and experiencing the family he thought he’d lost for good but they’re all with him now. And then it ends with Richonne doing their signature thing of holding hands while enjoying this hard-earned and much-deserved day of peace with their family.  🥰
That, along with the abundance of golden moments we actually got within this miniseries and the main show, is how I'll forever remember my beloved Richonne and their Grimes family. Resilient love personified. It's been an unforgettable journey and I'm grateful for every part of it. Thank you, Andy & Danai. Thank you, Rick and Michonne. Long Live Richonne. 👑

After six years of waiting (and wondering if it would ever come into fruition), Richonne's journey has finally came and went.
I could have never imagined how privileged I would be to have Richonne as my favorite ship. I could have never imagined getting everything I have ever wanted for this ship, especially in a series that was purely dedicated to said ship. Like do you know how lucky we are to have this happen for us when most people who ship characters in other shows don't even get their happy ending? AND to have the actors who portray said ship love the characters' relationship as much as the fans do? It's almost unimaginable. But we got it, and I couldn't be more thankful. I got my happy ending, and that's literally all I care about.
I have not taken a single L ever since 2015 when I first thought to myself while watching the show for the first time, "Hey these two characters work really well together. They have something special. I really hope they become a couple some day." I thought I was privileged enough to have my ship go canon, but what's extraordinary about all this is that it also went above and beyond everything I could have ever hoped for.
I want to give a huge thank you to Danai Gurira, Andrew Lincoln and Scott Gimple for loving Richonne as much as we do and dedicating their time and effort into not only concluding Rick and Michonne's story, but also making sure it was made special specifically for Richonners. Assuming this really is the conclusion to their story, of course. If it is I need to see Andy and Danai work on other projects together. It would be a shame if that phenomenal chemistry went to waste.

I listened to Danai's interview on the Hollywood reporter podcast where she talked about how her and Andy would rehearse every chance they got for episode 4, including their weekends off on zoom when she'd go back to Brooklyn and he'd stay in New Jersey. If Sunday is truly the end for Rick and Michonne's story then I'm gonna need them to work in something else together. Because their dedication to their characters and the fans to work even on their days off is the kind of actors I want to watch on screen. And the episode showed just how much that dedication paid off. I cant believe the last episode is almost here 😔
perfectly said! I haven't listened to that interview so I wasnt aware that they did all of that. thank you so much for sharing!
I agree, we're so lucky to have people so dedicated and talented and intelligent telling this story because the result has been incredible. I honestly think it would kind of be a shame if they didn't work together again, even if just from a producing and/or writing standpoint, because they clearly not only have onscreen chemistry but creative chemistry as well. they seem to collaborate well and have great instincts, especially danai! if they do work together again, whatever it is they choose to do, they can preemptively take my money because I really think they create magic together.
I'm both sad and relieved that the last episode is almost here. of course I'll miss them but I'm also so happy they seem to be getting a good send-off and are (potentially) free from twd because honestly idk if I can handle this kind of stress again lol I just want them to be happy and safe forever, and as long as they give me that, these handful of episodes are a gift. couldn't ask for more.

Aside from twol feeling like a complete ending I don’t understand why people want a season 2 when Danai and Andrew have made it clear that while they love these characters and enjoy working together, they moved on. They gave us this miniseries as their swan song and as a gift for fans who wanted closure for Richonne. Feels weird to demand more from them when there was reason they left in the first place.
this season two discourse is all because the dude bro incels want to see rick and daryl grunt and bump fists for one last hurrah.
lmfao no i’m kidding (not) but you’re so correct. i feel the same especially after THAT ending. it’s what the og richonne fans have always wanted and quite literally begged about for YEARS. this was the ending that we wanted and danai, andy, and gimple delivered that to us with the utmost brilliance. i’m good. maybe everyone is freaking out because it’s the end and we’ll never see them again which is totally understand because i am still losing my mind over that simple fact as well. any other reasons are merely because other audiences did not get the scenes that they desired or alternate ending that they chose to create in their little heads at two in the morning. idk!
we should all be grateful that danai and andy even agreed to do this in the first place. i think everyone is starting to take shit for granted. they could have completely ignored our requests as fans. we could still be here today without any content whatsoever from them!!! gratitude, people, gratitude. it feels weird to demand anything from them, period. they’re actors, not some robot that you can call and beckon anytime you want. we don’t need nor deserve a season two since everyone’s apparently been raised by wolves.
thanks for sharing with me. ☺️

Hi I'm new to the walking dead for the Rick and michonne show! I want to watch where should I start? Can I ask who is Jessie and why was he miserable? It just seems like such a fun fandom there's so much lore I kinda want to know everything. How far back should I go to get the full story from the actors and everything? I kind of live for the kind of stuff lol. But it's OK if it's a lot to explain. I thought about just spending a few days digging through the tag as far back as I could go. This show and all the gifsets and all the fun everyone is having kinda has me obsessed a little bit. But should I watch the whole series? It's eleven seasons lol.
I'll explain it all to you, no problem! I'll just warn you there will be a few spoilers though, ok? It's kinda hard to explain without them, so if you don't want spoilers, don't read on.
Listen, Rick and Michonne aside (who are awesome, amazing, perfect) The Walking Dead is a REALLY good show all around. It's honestly got some of the best writing I've ever seen on TV. So, if you like TV shows and you're looking for a good one, I'd advise you to watch it all from the beginning. It is indeed a lot but it's gonna go by so fast, because it's so good, you won't even feel it. Seriously, all of the characters, the dynamics between them, the bonds they all forge, the development of the characters, the relationships, the narrative, the found family aspect of it, it's all chef's kiss. And Rick and Michonne is like the cherry on top. It's like, in case you thought we couldn't make things even better, here's the best couple of all time for you, enjoy.
Now, focusing on just Rick and Michonne, I'd still advise you to watch it from the beginning so that you can FULLY appreciate it when they finally get together. Cause we have Rick's relationship with Lori (his dead wife) in the beginning of the show, which was just not good at all, she never had his back, so when he finally meets Michonne and she becomes his partner in every way, even before they fall in love, it's just got a different flavor when it finally happens, you know? Cause everything he has with Michonne is the complete opposite of what he had with Lori, and it's glorious, and you can see why they were made for each other and are soulmates, so unless you see that relationship first, it's not gonna have the same impact in my humble opinion.
As for Jessie, and Andy being miserable about Rick's storyline with her on the panels, Jessie is a character (the most generic character you can possibly think of) that shows up closer to the end of season 5, before Rick and Michonne get together, and she's on the show for 14 episodes. Rick is kind of having a bit of a breakdown at this point and he develops a little thing for her but nothing really happens between them. They only share one very chaste kiss, which is shown from a distance. You see, Jessie's kind of a stand-in for his dead wife at this point in his storyline. Her fragility kinda reminds him of her, her husband is abusive and so she's someone he can save like he couldn't save his wife. She's like a second chance for him to save his dead wife, that was her whole purpose.
But the whole thing is just very forced and stupid and nobody wanted it, everybody was already shipping Richonne then for a long time, so it made NO sense. And at the time, the marketing for the show was really pushing this whole Jessie thing, so Andy's miserable on all the panels where that storyline is brought up because he had always wanted Rick and Michonne together, even his mom wanted it, both he and Danai (the actress who plays Michonne) have both said they were always playing romance when it came to Rick and Michonne, and it's very clear from the writing that that's where things were headed, so again, this Jessie person made NO sense. So, on the panels, whenever the Jessie storyline was brought up, Andy would usually keep his head down, hiding behind his hat and wouldn't say anything, wouldn't express anything, only the actress playing Jessie talked. He really just wanted to forget that storyline was a thing at all, it was bad enough he had to play it.
But thankfully, like I said, nothing really happens between them, she's in it for just a few episodes and then Michonne becomes his entire world.
Now, if you only want to watch starting from the point where Rick and Michonne meet, that's right at the end of 3x06. And if you only want to watch from when they get together, that's 6x10. It's still gonna be awesome and amazing, but like I explained, you might not get the FULL experience.
It is indeed many seasons but the first one is only 6 episodes long and from then on, each season is about 13-16 episodes long.
I hope I was able to make things clear for you and if you have any other questions, just ask, I'll be more than happy to answer!

Hey! Just randomly stumbled onto your blog through the ask about real life shippers and just had to let a msg to say how much i appreciate your view. Because atp i feel like i‘m going insane! I‘m always seeing RL shippers and it‘s maddening. Be as annoying ad you want about richonne -i‘m right there with you 😭- but stop that bs about the actors. What is wrong with people. And IDK if it‘s gotten worse since TWD aired or just the algoriithm being all screwed up or both or what not but my god i‘m seeing way too much of it. Like i know it was also a thing back then but i didnt see much of it. To the point where i could almost be surprised everytime i did see. Like, right…that‘s a thing for some people. Anyway…. And then forget all about it until the next time. But now… every other post is about „dandy“. It‘s exhausting. Watch the show (well tv & movies in general), ship the characters but leave the f-cking real people out of it. Its so creepy. Its low key (already) taking my enjoyment for the show away.
Honestly, if Andy were single I might say it's harmless but he's not, he's been married for a long time and has children, he and Danai are obviously playing stuff up for the camera in a project they were both creatively involved in and that seems to be aimed at making the fans happy...and I feel that's rare, that's special, it's something that we didn't get for many years of Walking Dead, so why sulky it with crossing the line. Just enjoy two hot people being round of their work and not make it any more than that.

Yep yep yep I could write a mf thesis on the costumes in TOWL!!! Lowkey might be the standout of the show for me (-ok, maybe acting aside lol)? Maybe/especially because I wasn’t expecting it? Not that I was thinking it would be bad or anything like that, I just wasn’t thinking about it. But the work the costume designer, Eulyn, did was absolutely sublime. I’m absolutely gonna keep an eye out for her and her work from now on. It’s not just that the costumes were beautiful (which, they were! Just to give maybe the most obvious example; Eulyn, girl, you don’t understand, we owe you for life for Rick in his military uniform 😮‍💨😂) but the storytelling told with the costumes??! 🔥🔥 Just incredible. For example, in ep4, you can fully trace the state of the Richonne relationship and Rick mental’s state just by looking at the costumes.
The work done has been truly phenomenal. I hope she is getting the flowers she deserves!
The talent Eulyn has is crazy!!! She's so so good. I'm glad Danai wanted her for this. Danai's vision is never wrong. She's so right about everything. Not to go on a tangent about Danai and everything but its so beautiful to see nearly every headcanon Richonner's had come true on the screen. Like... our own ship actors had the same ideas. They were real the whole time, not just fanfiction. Just speaks to how well of actors Andy and Danai are. We really picked up everything they put down. It's amazing.
TOWL is just a masterpiece through and through. A true love letter to the fans. Even the costumes have you reeled in. It's so crazy! I've never seen costumes tell a story like this. Also I'm drunk right now soooo... sorry if I don't make much sense. I just really fucking love every single last thing about this show lol

Honestly, the best thing about ep 5 was how happy rick makes michonne and i still do not understand the decision to jump 6 YEARS into the future after the bridge, actually it is kind of amazing that out of many twd and gimples strange writing choises rick and michonne's relationship remains unscaithed even in the mothership show, i've been rewatching on a loop all of their scenes and it is incredible that there is always very clear emotional and logical throughline in their relationship. In the words of the famous rick grimes, how did we get so lucky?
Hey Anon,
We got lucky because we fell in love with characters who were also loved by their talented actors. And even as their careers grew and moved on they stayed committed to only telling the story they wanted to tell.
Artists say make art for yourself. Write the story, make the movie that you'd want to watch. That is what The Ones Who Live is. It is the moments, the conversations, the stories, the conflict that Andy and Danai wanted to see. You can tell in the "behind the scenes" interviews with Gimple when he's uncomfortable with the story, it's not what he would have written. Take EP5 where he points out that the engagement/commitment ceremony "was driven by Danai as a story idea."
I greatly appreciate Gimple giving credit where it is due, but I think it shows the difference between a Gimple production vetted by AMC executives and our series which was protected by Danai at every level. [I think Andy was fine with anything just as long as he got to makeout with his TV Wife in every episode.]
I'm allowing this mini-series to erase seasons 9 through 11 for me. Because ultimately I felt betrayed by the writer's room. Every single storyline either abused Michonne's humanity, called into question her choices, and subjected her to cruelty unmatched by any other character. The most poignant example - compare how the community came together for pregnant Lori, pregnant Maggie, and not for pregnant Michonne. How everyone questioned her leadership. Later as a send off for the character, how she was entrapped and subjected to horrible hallucinations of what if she [was a completely different person, with completely different values and motivations] and was a Savior. THAT was her send off, plus leave your kids during a building war with the Saviors.
The TWD writers loved making an example of Michonne. Forcing her to fight harder for community, acceptance, because she was a strong, Black, female leader. I think part of the time jump was avoiding her vulnerability. Her exhaustion at feeding, raising, and being emotionally available to her kids [or not]. To be fair, they did the same with Maggie, can't be in mourning, can't be motherly. If boys can't relate then it can't be in the show.
That realness about Michonne, the need for love, EMOTIONAL safety, and joy, while simultaneously being the best fighter, survivor, leader - that is what Danai wanted to give us.
And even further, vulnerability, emotional availability is a strength in TOWL. Jadis. Pearl. Rick. They make bad decisions to run away from their vulnerability. But emotional connection and the need for it "cannot be denied." Michonne said that in EP4. Jadis and Gabriel showed that in EP5.
TOWL is in dialogue with the TWD mothership. It's saying living for our heros is more than safety. more than toughening up through trauma. more than moral tests of right and wrong. more than soldiering, rebuilding, working, farming, shopping.
Living is also tender, fragile, soft. Everyone, in every age, including Rick and Michonne deserve to prioritize being cherished, dear, vulnerable.
The CRM treating vulnerability as the enemy is their weakness (as seen in Fear the Walking Dead and The World Beyond) and will be their downfall.

I’m still recovering after tonight’s brilliant and emotional episode of the ones who live! Episode 4 brought all the emotions out of me. Happiness, sadness, laughter, because these two incredible actors love these characters just as much as we do and put their heart and soul into their performances. Danai your writing, show running, producing, and acting this episode was spectacular! Thank you so much I am forever proud! As for my favorite man in the world, Andy your grace and class and level of acting that you can take any script into is truly amazing. Rick grimes is and will forever be my favorite tv character for good reason. Episode 4 was an emotional roller coaster for Rick and michonne, but they are back and stronger than ever now. Sad that there are only two episodes left but so excited to see the result of this incredible spinoff! Much love to Andy and Danai 🥹❤️

“to have rick and michonne breathing the same air again is one of the most exciting things. you have an expectation of a scene, and then you have the scene that actually occurs. and the great news is that with certain actors you can just tune into them. and i just have to sort of look into her eyes, and then off we go. and something fortunately happened that was real and felt true.” - andrew lincoln
“andy and i you know we love to get in that sandbox and bring them to life. so that was really fun to ignite the epic love story journey that we were about to take.” -danai gurira

♥️ Ranking Richonne
#30: This Is It (S7E12)
Tumblr media
Their smiles in this 7.12 scene will forever warm my heart. 🥹 And after seeing the palpable yearning Rick and Michonne have for each other in each of these TOWL trailers, you just know that it’s moments like the one on this rooftop that they both long to return to. (Side note: when they said TOWL would be an epic love story they were not playing around 🔥 every teaser and trailer is showing why this is the most epic husband and wife and this is some crazy love for real. 😍)
Now y'all know Richonne's honeymoon episode 'Say Yes' is gonna make multiple appearances on this Top 30 list. Starting with this lovely moment right here where our power couple is so visibly enamored with each other...
(And y’all, at first I really thought I was gonna make these posts a lil paragraph each, but then I saw a post that said, “I’m my target audience on Tumblr,” and I was like - you know what that person is right lol. And I love me some detailed Richonne insights, both to nestle in and read and to write, so instead of short and sweet, these posts are about to be my signature-length and sweet. Cuz truly I can’t help but go all out when it comes to reveling in Richonne)
Tumblr media
Lemme start by saying we are so fortunate to have Andy and Danai as the captains of this ship and that this extraordinary TV relationship is in the hands of two extraordinary actors. The way they give their all to these characters and always speak so beautifully about Rick and Michonne’s relationship is just a blessing. 🙌🏾
I remember Andy saying that he likes to think “I love you” is communicated every time Rick looks at Michonne, and it really really is. And this moment in 'Say Yes' is a prime example. The way they look at each other throughout this scene was a loud and clear “I love you” from them both, and I absolutely love to see it.
Tumblr media
Ok so refresher - because the universe was like Richonne deserves to keep winning on this honeymoon, they climb on that roof and find a boatload of guns at a carnival. And I love that they let Rick and Michonne’s run take place at such a date-like environment.
And I am smiling uncontrollably seeing the two of them smile when they realize this is it. They’re so beautiful and their joy brings me joy. It’s great seeing that they’re in such a good mood after being so down in 7A, and I adore every glance and synchronized smile they share.
I love Rick saying, “I think this is it” and Michonne smiling as she agrees. This line is pretty accurate to their relationship too. This relationship is it. This is the one for them. I mean, Andy said it himself - Rick found the greatest love story of his life in finding Michonne.
Rick asks, “Think we can?” which is also cute cuz he def knows they can. As was shown in the 7.10 ep 'New Best Friends,' Rick thoroughly enjoys the fact that he and his woman are such a power couple and there’s nothing they can’t do. (and the CRM finna learn there's nothing this husband and wife can't do together real soon 💁🏽‍♀️)
Tumblr media
When Rick asks if she thinks they can, Michonne is like let me find the coolest way possible to say 'yes we can' when she gets a determined look on her face and shoots those cans from a far distance. It’s nice cuz when she went out practicing her shot in 7.04 it was a very frustrating experience for her, but now with her man by her side and fighting the fight with him, she’s having a far more fun and successful time. And this would be how two of the baddest in the land have a carnival date. 😋
I love how happy Rick seems to be here to see Michonne in her element. He knew she had been practicing out there alone, and now he gets to see that of course his boss of a wife has got good at it. And their smiles and laughs. Food for the soul.
Tumblr media
You can just feel Rick taking in every moment he has with her and cherishing it. His adoration for this woman is so visible. And as we know, at this point, Rick had come to terms with the fact that he may not make it out of this Saviors war and that they’d lose people. So seeing him be so present in this moment with Michonne like they were the only two in the world, is all the more heartfelt cuz he’s trying to enjoy this moment like it’s his last. Cuz realistically, it could be.
And if his days really are numbered, then spending quality time enwrapped in Michonne's love and smiles is a major part of how Rick wants to enjoy what valuable life he has left.
Michonne is so glowy and happy in this scene too. 🥰  This is the face of a woman whose heart is being cared for by a good man who will be by her side through anything. Her adoration and fulfillment with her man are so fully on display, and she's so deserving of this kind of love and happiness. Also it’s sweet how Rick has this impressed look at her as she knocks down those cans.
Tumblr media
And truly what makes this a top 30 scene for me is their reactions after she says that. Because Michonne gives Rick the most sincere sweet smile that is just so clear she loves him. And then the lingering way Rick looks at her 😍…based on that look it just feels like my man Rick was a bit overcome with his love for her. 🥹
Tumblr media
It was most definitely a moment of Rick thinking, 'How’d I get so lucky finding you?' And I love that Rick can never hide his feelings for her. This is a man who is so deeply in love with his wife. And how he quietly soaks up this happy moment with her melts my entire heart. You can genuinely see that this moment in time with his true love is one Rick treasures and wants to hold onto for as long as he can.
And I just so respect that with his character so aware that life can be cut short, he’s really presently basking in each moment with her. Time with Michonne and their family is what Rick most wants. And it's refreshing to see them both be so fully present in their Richonne bubble and enjoying what they've always wanted in this scene.
The scene ends with them falling through the roof, but then after a moment of silence, you hear them laughing yet again. I love it. Nothing was bursting that Richonne bubble.

Andy and Danai understand the assignment every time when it comes to depicting Richonne’s relationship. And I love that they knew in an ep where they get to just have all this alone time, they would be so smiley and on cloud nine. And this was one of the moments that beautifully portrayed that.
Joy wasn't often depicted on this show, but whenever Rick and Michonne got alone time together it was joy’s time to shine. They know they can get through anything together so they’re able to just take a moment and enjoy each other and laugh and smile and that is a rare and wonderful thing only the two of them could give each other in this way.
So if you were to ask me what true love is, I’d show you Richonne scenes like these and just have three words - This. Is. It. 😌

Richonne Reunion thoughts and a love letter.
Tumblr media
When I started my rewatch late last year. I remembered how much I loved Richonne. Not just because of the actors and their chemistry, I'll get to that later. I forgot how much I loved the Richonne Fandom. Primarily a group of creators, storytellers, readers, basically passionate watchers of the show. I remember joining a thread where we'd analyze and have fate that Rick and Michonne were cannon. The laughter and passionate frustration we shared from the disaster of Messie. The theories on how and when Richonne would get together It was so much fun to gather on sundays and share a stream of thoughts.
The unforgettable event of 6x10 and the build up before that. The laughter from the Spoilers that it was breath mints. The victory after many nos and discouragement from other "fans". But we pressed on. To see the writers care about building richonne into this beautiful love story was such a joy to witness. I know some would think it's just a show. But TWD, it was my escape from real life, it awakened my love for storytelling and admiration for great actors who want to tell a compelling world of loss, love, family, and faith. Richonne gave me the courage and inspiration to share my writing on platforms. Richonne gifted me with the fun discovery of talented writers here (shout out to justdesserts) and amazing dedicated fans and readers who shared the same love of stories.
I'm used to shipping shows and with that comes heartbreak or eventually it fades and you go to a new couple to ship. But Richonne was my number one ❤️. Always special to me and when it went away I stopped shipping. I was heartbroken by the way twd writers almost gave up. Or lost inspiration. Maybe traded their talented actors and storybuilding for gore, shock, and viewership.
But even then I pressed on watching and a big part of that was because of the actors. Andrew and Danai were some of the best actors I have seen on a tv show. Their commitment to their characters, the way they can pull at my heart strings and make me feel so much. The moments I'd grin, or my throat would tighten from the moments of loss, reunions, hope. We felt all that because of Andy and Danai's art.
If I'm being honest, the producers, writers, directors were lucky to have such great actors bringing their words to life. That I feel was never as appreciated as they should have been. And because of that, I was relieved when Danai and Andy decided to leave. That's probably for a later time to rant about that.
But to see that after so much HEARTBREAK and disappointment from TWD producers, directors, and writers. They will somehow get it right and they considered the hardwork of Danai, Andy, and our love for Rick and Michonne. This just makes me flow in inspiration, nostalgia, hope, and excitement.
I am SO HAPPY and excited for a Richonne reunion. Besides the reunion of andy and danai, I hope to see the richonne reunion of writers, readers, and viewers grace Tumblr and ff.net again.
And I hope we get new fans to see and feel exactly why we loved Richonne.
