when a new mistholme episode comes out and another letter of the acrostic is revealed, it feels like we’re all huddled around a ouija board while the disembodied presence of the guide spells out the theme of the season

[id] a screenshot from the Mistholme Museum fan server of a message from a new member that reads “I wonder if we’ll ever learn about the visitor that the audio tour guide is talking to” and a 4-panel meme comic following that screenshot which shows a stick figure saying “hmmm today I will listen to some Mistholme Museum season 2 finale”, shows the stick figure walking toward a computer with an expression that is labeled in the comic itself as ‘clueless’, shows the stick figure putting on a pair of headphones, and the final panel which just shows black and white television static [end of id]

stray is a scary game that frightens me to play... but the satisfaction of helping out the robot-people is so rewarding that my own fear is almost completely inconsequential

something i like about severance is the way lumon is portrayed as a company and how distinctly usamerican it is. it’s the biblical style in which their handbook is written. it’s their specific brand of dehumanization, the overbearing paternal treatment of their workers, it’s referring to lumon as a “family” and giving all the severed workers infantilizing shortenings of their names coupled with the first initial of their outies’ actual family names (mark s., helly r.) as if they’re first-graders with nametags on their desks. it’s the mormon-adjacent depictions of handbook passages as paintings you’d see on the walls of a church basement sunday school class. it’s the way their company loyalty is framed as devotion to kier eagan; the way the corporate cult is managed in a manner identical to how christian cults are. it’s the way in which the lines are blurred, not only between “work life” and “personal life” despite the rigid enforcement of their separation but also between lumon as a company and the eagans as a family.

the thing about being extremely autistic but also deeply (one might say specially) interested in poetry and literature is that i do understand metaphoric and implicit meanings but i learned them like one learns formulas in physics class

lumon and the eagans reek strongly of mormonism.
for example,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they have their own special fucked up book(s) and core principles that are worded in a very biblical manner and used to control inductees,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they revere a handful of founding family members as if they are figures of a higher power, they often teach a kind of ‘alternative history’ about their founder(s) and maintain a rigidly insular way of life to prevent people from doubting or questioning leadership,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is such tight control over the insular ‘culture’ that everything from books to clothing to the branding on snack foods to interior design are strictly-controlled — including artwork depicting scenes from passages of aforementioned special, non-bible fucked-up book…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and PR campaign after PR campaign to represent their cult in a favorable way, which goes hand-in-hand with mass-proselytization and normalizing the objectively fucked-up aspects of the ideology they’re trying to spread, especially when a mormon senator, congressperson, or presidential candidate is running for office…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the enigmatic question regarding what lumon industries ‘does’ - when the real question is, what industry don’t they have a stake in?
