What a February
Well...what a great couple of days to be stuck in the office, amiright? (I work mostly from home but on occasion I have to go into the office and of course some nice little royal bombs get dropped when I can't be here.)
I've gotten some anons about what's happened but I won't be posting them (sorry, everyone!). Because so much has happened, I think it would just be confusing to rehash some of it, and other asks were also sent to Empress and Sassy (nothing wrong with that! They were doing answers in real-time and they've said pretty much the same things I'd have said).
So to recap recent events:
2/5/24: Buckingham Palace announced King Charles has cancer. Fortuntely it was caught early, Charles is doing/feeling well, he's beginning treatment immediately.
2/6/24: Harry catches a last-minute flight to London. Clarence House puts out a story "business as usual, nothing to worry about, King can still work and he is still working" (i.e., Harry go home).
2/7/24: Harry arrives in London. He goes directly to Charles, who is delaying travel to Sandringham to see him. Harry's PR says they met for an hour, Meghan wanted to say hello/wish him well via Facetime but Charles declined, and Harry went to BP for the evening. The Daily Mail tracked the comings and goings from Clarence House and realized the meeting lasted less than 15 minutes, from the time of Harry's convoy entering the grounds to Charles's helicopter leaving. It is further revealed that Harry spent the night in a hotel, William didn't return Harry's calls, Harry didn't want Camilla involved in the meeting, and none of Harry's "friends" offered to host him for the night. Also, William makes his first public engagements since mid-January when Kate's treatment began; Tom Cruise is there.
2/8/24: Harry flies home. He's papped at Heathrow entering the VVIP suite (as one does). Wait, Harry's not at home! He's in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl (or the Superb Owl) and makes a surprise appearance to present the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. Sussex PR immediately begins telling everyone that Harry and Meghan will be attending the Super Bowl.
2/9/24: Lambrook School begins half-term break and the Wales family travels to Anmer Hall/Sandringham estate. Harry's appearance in Vegas gets picked up by the media.
2/10/24: Meghan's PR starts walking back their own rumors that they'll be in Vegas for the Super Bowl, citing the need to prepare for their Canada IG trip.
2/11/24: Super Bowl Sunday. No Harry and Meghan to be seen.
2/12/24: Meghan's PR reveals she spent the weekend cooking with Afghan immigrants in an Archewell initiative.
2/13/24: Harry and Meghan launch their newest rebranding effort with their new Sussex website with Meghan's coat of arms (rather than their joint coat of arms). Meghan announces a new podcast deal with someone no one has really heard of.
2/14/24: Harry and Meghan arrive in Vancouver for the "one year to 2025 Invictus Games." Meghan coordinates a photoshoot with outdoor activities; merches two outfits; and virtue-signals their "we're still royal" demands with Kate cosplay, a coat called Kensington, and a 'you can call us Sir/Ma'am' exchange caught on camera. In the evening they're papped going to a super-romantic Valentine's Day dinner date.
2/15/24: Day 2 of the Vancouver IG kickoff visit. They visit wheelchair basketball. Meghan gives her signature full-body contact-hugs. Sussex PR announce that the family has changed their surname to Sussex (from Mountbatten-Windsor) and this is the first time all family members have the same surname. Meghan also claps back at mounting criticism by saying "We will not be broken."
2/16/24: Day 3 of the Vancouver IG kickoff visit. Harry gives an interview to GMA's Will Reeve (son of the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve and his wife, Dana) in which he blabs about Charles's cancer and reiterates how much he loves his family, hinting that he's available to come back. Sussex PR also drops an article in the afternoon (with BP collaboration) announcing Harry and Meghan's plan to return with half in/half out; this is very clearly one of Charles's trial balloons from Clarence House.
(Today) 2/17/24: Backlash to the trial balloon is swift, so Clarence House backtracks immediately and does damage control. Kensington Palace announces that William will attend the 2024 BAFTAs tomorrow. Half-term break for Lambrook School ends on February 19th so the Waleses are traveling back to London/Windsor this weekend. And Hollywood has fought back by leaking about their Netflix deal, which contradicts a ton of Meghan's PR from 2020/2021.
Since some of you have asked for my thoughts, here you go. I am warning you now it's probably going to be my usual essay.
On the new website:
The new Sussex website is a problem. It conveys a legitimacy to the public that Harry and Meghan do not have, which The Queen and Edward Young made very sure was publicly known back in 2020. In particular, it's the use of Meghan's coat of arms, which signals palace support or endorsement. IMO, Buckingham needs to force them to take the coat of arms down.
I suspect they are using Meghan's coat of arms because a) Meghan believes it was personally awarded to her and is hers to use as she wants, whereas Harry's coat of arms probably comes with strings from the BRF and b) it's CYA if ever there's a divorce - if you look at it from a business standpoint, this is nothing more than Meghan branding the company with her name so she can prove ownership when they're splitting assets in a divorce, increasing her chances of getting the "company."
What about Archewell?
They're probably phasing out Archewell. It doesn't have the same visual connection to Harry and Meghan that Sussex does. I think they struggled so much with Archewell and were never able to get it off the ground in terms of a brand or an identity, in part due to the COVID-era launch. Sussex is a much stronger association for them and connects them more tightly to the royal identity. Archewell will probably be either their nonprofit arm or their content creator arm but it won't be as important going forward as it's been in the past.
Frankly, I would be surprised if Archewell v Sussex branding didn't come up in the brand analysis that WME did when Meghan first signed with them. We know they did a brand analysis because there was a ton of PR in August 2023 about Harry and Meghan becoming separate brands, which didn't work at all and they were back together as a "Sussex" brand in September 2023 with Dusseldorf Invictus Games. Seeing the success of "Team Sussex" in Dusseldorf definitely informed the website and the rebranding attempt.
What about the timing of all this?
They're taking advantage of the quietness from the royal family. They do this every year like clockwork when 1) the BRF is on summer holidays (July through early September) and 2) the BRF is on winter holidays (late December through early February). What is unusual about this timing is that it's taking place in mid-February and possibly well into March, which is a clear signal that it's the Sussexes taking advantage of Kate's absence to draw attention to themselves because Kate isn't there to steal their headlines.
And that it was a whole week of Sussex PR is not unusual either. It's their usual pattern when they have something big they want to promote and dominate the news with. It's cyclical at this point: first is a reminder of their royal status (Harry flying to Charles's bedside), then it's a reminder of their celebrity status (the Super Bowl appearance), then it's a big announcement (Sussex website), culminating in a set of public engagements/appearances (Invictus Games) with media attention. And to keep the attention coming, they drop breadcrumbs about the royal family to look like they're still "in," which buys them a few extra days of coverage because Charles falls for the bait every time.
The more interesting bit of timing in all of this is the Netflix article. Netflix wouldn't randomly give comments like this, so something must have happened behind the scenes for them to be pushed to this particular breaking point. I feel like perhaps the Sussexes may be trying to renegotiate their deals - maybe they asked for more money or maybe Meghan is trying to get more out of this 'Meet Me at the Lake' production than was agreed - and this is Netflix making it clear that it's over and done. I also have a niggling feeling that it might be connected to the upcoming film awards (BAFTA Film Awards tomorrow, Oscars on March 10th) - maybe they're trying to score tickets to parties using Netflix's name?
Are they really going to come back? Will Charles let them work again?
Analytically, the evidence points to 'no.' The trial balloon failed quickly faster than any other I've seen recently, which is and isn't surprising. It's surprising how quickly Charles backtracked since it had his implicit endorsement. It's not surprising that Charles pulled it down - he's as thin-skinned as Harry and Meghan both are when it comes to criticism.
But it's also more than just the trial balloon. It's everything else.
Charles wants them back on the family side. That's always been pretty clear. I think he waffles on having them back on the "work" side: on the one hand, the BRF needs the help since 10 of The Queen's 14 working royals are elderly (all 5 Kents, the 2 Gloucesters, Charles and Camilla, and Anne) and 2 of the remaining 4 are dealing with a signficant health issue and are temporarily out of commission - in the business sense, this is unsustainable and untenable succession planning. But on the other hand, no one wants Harry and Meghan back, for a litany of reasons including how much shit they've talked about the family (collectively and individually), the petty PR games they play for attention, and the Sussexes' general toxicity. And by 'no one,' I mean family members, courtiers/staff, others in the aristocracy (not getting invites to the Grosvenor wedding is a huge reflection of what "their kind" thinks of teh Sussexes), and the at-large general public.
Charles probably has entertained the idea of half in/half out now that he's in charge and the Sussexes are now lovebombing him (vs in 2020 when they were lovebombing The Queen) but his biggest opposition is public support - it took Charles 30 years and 4 significant deaths (Diana, Queen Mother, Philip, and her own forthcoming death) to get The Queen's support for Camilla to become 'Queen Camilla and, in turn, the public's support or the public's indifference.
Charles doesn't have that kind of time to get the institutional and public support to bring Harry back. He's got 10 years at best, which is now handicapped by a cancer diagnosis.
Beyond that, he doesn't even have Harry and Meghan's cooperation the same way he had Camilla's cooperation. Camilla cooperated with a 10-year wait to be liked well enough that no one would object to her marrying Charles. Camilla then cooperated with a further 17-year wait to be liked well enough that the institution would support her becoming Queen.
Can Harry and Meghan wait that long? No. They can't. They couldn't wait an extra year to get engaged. They couldn't wait to have their first child. They couldn't wait out the criticism from Fall 2018. They couldn't wait out the criticism from Summer 2019. Harry couldn't wait for the phone-hacking settlement. When they want something, they want it now. They buy completed projects and slap their branding on it vs. developing their own programs.
Can Harry and Meghan cooperate with anyone? No. They can't. They couldn't cooperate with William and Kate on the Royal Foundation. They couldn't cooperate with the courtiers for Archie's birth. They couldn't cooperate with the family on Megxit. They couldn't cooperate with the rota for tour coverage. They need to be totally and fully in control of absolutely everything. Their idea of cooperation is 'I tell you what to do, you do it.'
And because they're too impatient and because they refuse to cooperate, there's no way they'll support a 10-years long PR drive for Charles to rehabilitate their public image and get William's support. Heck, they can't even last a 3-month media rebrand. Charles knows that, which I suspect is why he may be trying to fast-track it but 1) when has fast-tracking something ever gone well for the BRF and 2) William is the linchpin holding it all together. Charles can't do anything without William's support. Yes, William is that powerful now - the public does pay attention to what he and Kate signal and the public would support them more than they would support Charles. Charles can't risk losing William's favor any more than he already has.
The third reason stopping Charles from taking Harry and Meghan back as working royals is Camilla and that Harry doesn't want her involved. He admitted it last week when he didn't contradict her leak about it. IMO, this reveals Harry's hand: he wants to position himself (or Meghan and himself) as Camilla's alternate, the way Charles often stood in as Philip's alternate. They want Camilla to retire so they can take her place in prestige, wealth, and attention. It's the only way they can "be better" than William and Kate, and they probably think it's how they can get "more" in the inheritance than William. Unfortunately for them, Camilla is Charles's line in the sand so no way will Charles let that happen after he spent 30 years getting Camilla to be able to sit next to him, and on top of all that, Camilla herself didn't wait 30 years to be Queen just for a pair of narcisstic glassbowl shitheads to usurp her at the last second.
That's the "working royal" side of it.
When you look at the "family" side of it, we know that Charles is more accepting of allowing the Sussexes back as family members, albeit with two strict rules:
No Meghan
No royal work
We know these are Charles's rules because it's already been communicated to us, most especially in the events around the Queen's funeral and his own coronation.
We also know these are Charles's' terms because Harry is publicly fighting against them this week, which suggests that these may have been reiterated (or relitgated, perhaps) during the <15-minute visit on February 7th.
"We all finally have the same surname for the first time as a family" and "maybe I'll become an American' is Harry's way of telling Charles and the courtiers that all four of them are a package deal and they all move together (like Archie's salt and pepper shakers). Meaning that if Charles wants Harry back, Charles must also take Meghan, Archie, and Lili too.
The Vancouver trip being such a royal rip-off is Harry's way of demanding royal work. His position is that he and Meghan must have the exact same lifestyle now that they had back in 2018: a palace residence, glamorous patronages, military honors, gushy praising media coverage, carriage processions, and equal precedence to the entire Wales family.
All this to illustrate that the dividing line is over the work aspect.
On one side is everyone saying "no, they can't work, they're just family." On the other side is Harry and Meghan saying "we're not just family, we're also working royals." And Charles is there smack in the middle saying "don't make my last years miserable" begging someone to give in. It's clear that Charles hopes it will be the institution (i.e. William) that gives in so he can fast-track the rehabilitation.
So no, I don't think Charles and the Sussexes will succeed in being part-time working royals. I think we'll see a lot of negotiating in the coming weeks and months (like Sussex demands for Trooping) and it may get loud and it may look frighteningly real, but that's only because William and Kate are on leave from work and their absence lets Harry and Meghan play offense. Once the Waleses are working again, or a new picture of Kate is released (I'm still hedging my bets for something celebrating Mother's Day next month), the Sussexes go back to playing on defense, and playing poorly.
We only need to worry if William, Kate, and Camilla appear to be changing their minds. They represent "the institution" to Charles, as well as public support (William) and establishment media (Camilla). William continues to tell everyone he isn't speaking to Harry. Kate's body language at the Windsor Walkabout keeps resurfacing. Camilla has leaked that Harry doesn't want to see her when he visits Charles and that she doesn't support the Sussexes coming back. There's nothing to worry about for now.

Evening/Morning m'dears. Hopefully today was a bit easier! We got quite a few crumbs of bts / script info today and lots and lots of Rhys which certainly raised some people's spirits.
I just wanted to send a reminder out today that lovelies, you are so much more than what others think of you. You are so much more than what you think of yourself even most days. You are such an inspiration, and you've been doing a really amazing job, even if you've had bad days. I'm sure you're tired of hearing that, but that's too bad because I'm gonna keep saying it until you get it in your beautiful brain that you are doing great. So many things are going on, and everyday, bad or good, you are getting through them. If someone was unkind to you today, I'm so sorry, and I hope they haven't made you feel too down on yourself. If they did, just know, you are a force to be reckoned with. They can be spiteful and hateful, but you are a wonderful force that keeps on kicking ass.
You deserve kindness in this world, no matter what, you hear me?
No matter what.
You're doing great, so give yourself a big ol hug for me and the rest of the crew, and know you are an absolute gem. <3 You're gonna get there, wherever you're trying to go. Keep going!

Zara Tindall’s best friend to be appointed as lady in waiting to the Princess Royal
NHS midwife Dolly Maude, who delivered Tindall child on bathroom floor, previously wore joky ‘lady in waiting’ badge on day at the races
By Camilla Tominey for the Daily Telegraph
She once turned up to the races with her best friend Zara Tindall wearing a playful badge bearing the words ‘Lady in Waiting’.
A spokesman for the royal was later forced to clarify: “It was a joke. Zara doesn’t have any sort of lady in waiting.”
But now Dolly Maude, an NHS nurse who helped to deliver Mrs Tindall’s third child, Lucas, on the bathroom floor at her Gatcombe Park home in 2021, has been well and truly welcomed into the royal fold.
Despite the high jinks at Cheltenham last January, the 51-year-old mother of four has been appointed as a lady in waiting to Mrs Tindall’s mother, the Princess Royal.
The Telegraph understands that Buckingham Palace will announce the appointment in the Court Circular on Feb 1, when Mrs Maude will be revealed as one of four newly appointed ladies in waiting to the King’s sister, to replace others who have retired.
Tumblr media
A lady in waiting is an attendant to a female member of the Royal family who acts as a companion on royal engagements as well as helping with their day-to-day duties.
Mrs Maude was maid of honour when the Princess Royal’s daughter married Mike Tindall, in 2011, and helped to deliver Lucas when his birth did not quite go to plan.
Mr Tindall described the birth on his The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, saying: “Fortunately Zara’s friend Dolly is, she’s actually more important than I am at making sure she’s been at all three of my children’s births. She was there and recognised that we wouldn’t have got to the hospital in time, so it was run into the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, towels down, brace brace brace!”
One of Mrs Maude’s friends said: “She’s such a great girl. For the Princess Royal, it’s a perfect fit because of their shared love of dogs and horses.
“She’s not only extremely close to Zara, she also gets on brilliantly with the Princess. She’s fiercely loyal and discreet. It’s a great match.”
Tumblr media
Mrs Maude and her husband Chris have four children. Billy, 26, attended Swansea University; Nell, 24, studied at the Central School of Ballet; Ted, 17, is, like his mother, a keen skier. He was a page boy at the Tindall wedding and Mrs Tindall is his godmother. Their youngest daughter, Mary, 15, is studying for her GCSEs.
Mrs Maude is occasionally spotted looking after Mrs Tindall’s children Mia, who turns 10 this month, five-year-old Lena and Lucas, at equestrian events.
Three years ago it was revealed that the Princess Royal, who carries out the second highest number of royal engagements a year after the monarch, had 11 ladies in waiting, two of whom had worked for Her Royal Highness for more than 50 years, three for more than 40 years, and five for more than 30 years.
Traditionally, ladies in waiting would be the wives or daughters of peers but they can also be a cousin or close friend.
When Queen Elizabeth II died, it was announced that Queen Camilla would not have ladies in waiting but instead be attended by Queen’s “companions”, and that their role would be much more informal.

Who is this speaking with a sneer on their lips and contempt in their voice before news of the Princess of Wales’s cancer broke? A monarchist or a republican?
“Kate's admission that she had doctored the photograph, and her apology for doing so, were the latest self-inflicted wound by the House of Windsor, for which trust and integrity are fundamental commodities.”
Those who do not know the UK might assume it is a revolutionary who wants to undermine trust in the integrity of the monarchy because they want it gone
Republican sentiment in the UK is indeed stronger than tourists like to imagine and the BBC likes to admit.
Irish nationalists and Brits of Irish descent are wary of the crown. Just 45 per cent of Scots want to keep the royals “for the foreseeable future”, with 36 per cent ready to get rid of them ASAP. Meanwhile, the constitutional pressure group Republic reports that for the first time a plurality of people under 45 favour abolishing the monarchy.
But however greatly they have grown in number, British republicans have little vim and less vigour. They (we if I am levelling with you) don’t care enough about the monarchy to abolish it, or most of us don’t. It’s not a political priority or a practical project.
Republicanism last grew in the UK in the 1990s after the marriage of Prince Charles (as he then was) to Princess Diana fell apart. Jack Straw and other Labour politicians of the day were Republicans in theory.
But in practice they imagined cancelling all their other political plans so they could focus on dethroning the Queen and recoiled at the prospect.
Even if a majority of the country favoured a republic (which it never has), an embittered monarchist minority would never forgive the government. And as the government became unpopular, as all governments do, the minority would become a majority and demand a restoration.
No way would serious Labour politicians waste their time. Nor would serious Scottish nationalist politicians who made the same calculations.
British republicanism died for the very British reason that it was too much trouble.
If you want to find creepy obsessions, and bullying, hectoring sadism, turn to the UK’s monarchists.
The quote I began with was not from some obscure Republican website, but from the Daily Mail, Britain's best selling newspaper and most-read news site. It is a monarchist institution, at least it says it is.
And if you think I am being a snotty intellectual sneering at the tabloids, the BBC was just as bad. The line between snob and mob in the UK is always thin and often invisible.
The BBC has a podcast dedicated to PR called “When it hits the fan”! In its latest episode it berates the royal family for making “big mistakes” in not explaining why Prince William missed the memorial service for his godfather, and compounding the sin by allowing his wife to be photographed without a wedding ring.  ( I know, the horror.)
The princess has now been forced by the pressure from those who claim to adore her to admit that she had a cancer diagnosis and now needs chemotherapy. She didn’t want to talk about it at first because, frankly, her health ought to be no one else’s business.
Given what we know, it seems at least possible, don’t you think, that her husband missed engagements because he was concerned about his wife
After leaving the hospital, she put out a picture of herself and her children she had edited to make her kids look good. She is not the first mother to have done this, and in any case her illness may have distracted her,
Now that they have forced her to talk about her chemotherapy, the ferrets are reversing and everyone who had hectored the royal family is sobbing and sighing.
To my mind, and I suspect to the minds of many others, they are displaying the sickest side of British monarchism.
Imagine a criminal who beats you up in the street. He kicks you when you are down, humiliates and destroys you. And just when you think he’s finished with you, he bends over and says with a sweet smile “how brave you are and how courageous. We are all so terribly proud of you.”
There is a limit to how much of this treatment modern members of the royal family will take.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have fled to America, and are hated for it. I accept that a part of that hatred is racist. A larger part is a modern version of British anti-Americanism. The self-aggrandising virtue signalling of the progressive American rich grates with many in the UK. It’s too egotistical; too “let’s talk about me” for traditional British people to tolerate.
But the main reason why conservatives in general and the conservative press in particular hate them is that they have opted out. They don’t share royal duties. Instead of taking abuse, they call their lawyers. They just won’t play the game anymore.
In truth there are not many who will. The old queen stayed on the throne too long. King Charles was too old for the job when he was finally crowned, and now he is ill with cancer, as is the Princess of Wales. Meghan and |Harry have fled, and Prince William is pretty much on his own to do the royal duties of a monarchy whose supporters demand that it conducts itself on a grand scale.
I look at his children and wonder if they will put themselves through it or run like their Uncle Harry. You should not blame them if they do.
It’s people who claim to worship the royals who will drive them away or drive them mad.
Republicans will never kill the monarchy. Royalists just might.

5BX: The Cold War Military Workout for Getting Fit in 11 Minutes a Day
In last month’s AoM podcast episode with Dr. Martin Gibala about high-intensity interval training, he mentioned a high-intensity workout program that was developed by the Royal Canadian Air Force during the late 1950s, took only eleven minutes to perform, and became hugely popular with the civilian population. Duly intrigued, we decided to dig up the program to see what it involved. The 5BX plan (Five Basic Exercises) was born out of a particular need: a third of the RCAF’s pilots were deemed unfit to fly and needed a workout program that 1) could be done without any specialized equipment, as the pilots were often stationed at remote bases without access to standard gyms, and 2) could fit into airmen’s busy schedules. While high-intensity training hadn’t yet won mainstream acceptance, the pioneering research of Dr. Bill Orban had showed that by increasing the intensity of exercise, people could get the same fitness-improving benefits in much less time. Orban used this insight to develop 5BX, which involved doing five exercises — four of which targeted flexibility and strength and one that worked aerobic capacity — in just eleven minutes. The Canadian military encouraged not only its pilots to perform it, but their children as well. Orban also developed a plan for women called XBX, which involved doing ten exercises in 12 minutes. In the 1960s, the programs were published together as the Royal Canadian Air Force Exercise Plans and distributed outside the military. The booklet became popular with civilians not only in Canada but around the world; it was translated into thirteen languages, sold 23 million copies, and is credited with helping to launch our modern fitness culture.  If you’d like to try it out, we’ve reformatted and republished the 5BX plan below. It features six “charts,” each of which includes the program’s five main exercises: * Stretching * Sit-up * Back extension * Push-up * Running in place, interspersed with various jumps (can be substituted for an actual run or walk) Each chart offers progressively more difficult variations of the five exercises, and you work your way from one level of performance on a particular chart to the next, and then from one chart to the next. Charts 5 and 6 get into some elite-level athletics — good luck with those toe-touching jack jumps, friends. For a visual demonstration of some of the exercises, watch this 1959 Royal Canadian Air Force training video. --- The Five Basic Exercises (5BX) Plan presented in this booklet is designed to show you how to develop and hold a high level of physical fitness, regardless of where you may be located. The scheme is not dependent on elaborate facilities or equipment. The exercises require only eleven minutes a day and can be done in your bedroom or beside your bed in your barracks. The diversity of work assignments, combined with lack of adequate gymnasium facilities at many of your stations makes it difficult to schedule formal physical training periods for all our personnel. The 5BX Plan puts physical fitness training within reach of every member of the RCAF. It is your duty and responsibility as a member of the RCAF to maintain a high level of physical fitness and be ready for any emergency which may require the extended use of your physical resources. Positive physical well-being is also closely allied with mental and emotional fitness, all of which are essential in the discharge of normal daily tasks. Warming Up The 5BX Plan was designed so that no additional warmup is necessary in order to receive its maximum benefits. The older one is, the more necessary proper warming up becomes to avoid “strained” muscles. The 5BX Plan has a built-in method of warmup. This is achieved in two ways: * by the arrangement of the exercises; and * by the manner in which these exercises are performed. For example, the first exercise is a stretching and loosening exercise which limbers up the large muscles of the body. In addition, this exercise should be started very… http://dlvr.it/T4JMgd

World of Frozen: Disney Parks | Analysis
Part 1
We have gotten our first official look at the Frozen resort in the Disney Park in Japan in a short promotional video on Instagram. It's so beautiful and gives me a mix of Frozen and Frozen Fever vibes - The two of my favourite Frozen movies!
Let's break it down and see what we have because sometimes big attractions like Disney Parks tease upcoming things for future stories like how we have the upcoming podcasts soon and then Frozen 3 later on.
We open the video to a painting of Elsa and Anna similar to that shown in Frozen 2, in "Into the Unknown". Same attire but different setting and pose.
Tumblr media
Then we get closeups of Arendelle and a glimpse of the Ice castle in the distance too. All around Arendelle, are buttings of the official Arendelle flag as they are most year round. The foundation is frozen in big snowflakes just like in Olaf's Frozen Adventure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the cutest part of how they've designed Arendelle is that they added the Elsa and Anna figures on the clocktower from Frozen Fever!! They're exactly the same except they added details to the bottom of Elsa's dress. Presumably, that means that since Anna's birthday in Frozen Fever, those giant dolls in the Clocktower of Arendelle have stayed there for two years!
Tumblr media
Next, we get a look at the roll of a proclamation for an official 'Summer Snow day", which is the event that is taking place in this Park. We see a citizen of Arendelle putting the roll up but we only see the back of her head. She can be seen wearing a ribbon with 3 sunflowers on the bow, very similar to the one Anna wears in Frozen Fever. Sunflowers are Arendelle's symbol in the summer because it's Anna's birth month and season and favourite flower too as we learn in Frozen Fever.
Tumblr media
We get a close-up of the latest newspaper from the Arendelle Daily Press. On it, it headlines 'Arendelle Set To Celebrate Summer Snow Day'. For those who can't read the articles featured in this newspaper, I'll write it all out below from top to bottom, and left to right.
Tumblr media
"Citizens have finished preparations for Summer Snow Day festivities across the kingdom, and they are expecting this to be the largest celebration yet
Everyone from Arendelle's Royal family to entrepreneur of the year. Wandering Oaken, will be hosting an array of events taking place in the village and forest.
Villagers appear to be the most excited about a royal tour of Elsa's Ice Palace.
In an official statement released early today, Elsa stated that she and Anna wanted to do something truly special for the people of Arendelle.
Through the power of Elsa's ice magic, visitors will be transported to the top of the North mountain and treated to a performance filled with music and fun. This annual celebration marks the day that Anna sacrificed her life to protect Elsa. Anna not only saved her sister with an extraordinary act of true love, but also saved the kingdom from the most severe ice storm on record."
"Local Entrepreneur Builds Sleigh Slide
Wandering Oaken, owner of Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna, is inviting everyone to ride his Sliding Sleighs as part of the annual Summer Snow Day celebration. From the comfort of his sauna, Oaken said, “I was having a steam when an idea popped into my mind, what if we all could ride sleighs in the summer? Wouldn't that be a hoot!”.
After sharing that his attraction is reindeer powered and snowman operated, Oaken spoke a great length about the “big summer Snow Day blowout” at his Trading Post and Sauna. Members of Oaken's family finally stepped in after an extensive pitch for a sun balm of his own invention, and they insisted that he, “Let it go”."
"Northern Delights
Sweets to brighten your days and nights
Across from friendship fountain"
"Tick Tok Toys & Collectibles
Beloved gifts from anytime
Conveniently located in the Clock Tower Square"
"Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs
A real hoot and a half!
This Summer Snow Day
Across from the Fjord in Arendelle Forest
And while you're there, be sure to step inside Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna for the big Summer Snow Day Blowout!"
"Golden Crocus Inn
The Finest Dining in the Kingdom
"We will treat your like royalty” "
"Weather Forecast
Warm and sunny with a chance of scattered summer snow"
"Elsa Seeks to Improve Relations with the Southern Isles
Elsa has invited the Royal Family of the Southern Isles to enjoy Summer Snow Day celebrations in Arendelle. The King, Queen and twelve of their sons were seen entering Arendelle Castle after their ship arrived late yesterday. “It's a lovely display of peace between the two kingdoms.” said local candy shop owner. “I think the gesture is sweet”.
The relationship between both kingdoms has been viewed as chilly following a dramatic attempt by Prince Hans of the Southern Isles to overthrow the Royal Family of Arendelle. It is no surprise that the imprisoned Prince is the only member of the neighbouring Royal family who will not be visiting. Prince Hans is currently recovering injuries from a giant snowball, the details of which remain unclear.
Official Ice Master And Deliver of Arendelle
Summer Ice
New Available "
To summarize this newsletter, Elsa and Anna have created a new annual celebration called, the Summer Snow Day, to mark the day that Anna sacrificed her life to protect Elsa and saved the kingdom from enteral Winter in the first movie or in other words the anniversary of the great thaw. This storyline is set before Frozen 2 and after Frozen Fever. Bearing in mind that Frozen Fever is (just a month under) a year after Frozen and was set around the events of Anna's birthday, June 22, summer solstice, Summer Snow Day is exactly a year after Frozen and a month or so after Frozen Fever. Elsa and Anna also created this celebration as an urge to do something truly special for the people of Arendelle. But the interesting thing is that it also states that the sisters, particularly Elsa given she's the Queen, want to improve their relationship with the Southern Isles by inviting them to their first Summer Snow Day celebration. But although the royal family of the Southern Isles attended, Hans didn't because he's recovering from injuries from a giant snowball (of which details are unclear). When they mentioned a giant snowball we immediately remember when Elsa blew the birthday bugle horn and shot a massive Snow ball to the Southern Isles, specifically right on Hans. The giant snowball went unnoticed by everyone in Arendelle when Elsa accidentally threw it but I'm pretty sure Hans knows exactly where it came from - because there's only one person he knows with ice powers! 😆 But I think the King and Queen of the Southern Isles told Elsa and Anna about Hans injuries to answer for his absence so by doing so, that's how the sisters learn about the giant snowball being from when she blew the horn in Anna's birthday (because I'm sure they wouldn't believe a giant snowball hit Hans out of nowhere with no snow around the Southern Isles either). When the Paper says he is the imprisoned Prince, I believe that his parents must've imprisoned him in his castle with chores to be done etc as punishment and whenever his family have to go anywhere else be it in the kingdom or to another, he isn't allowed to.
Moving on, we have another look at Arendelle and we see Elsa and Anna in their epilogue attire of course, (cosplay versions of course for the Parks) greeting at a local citizen.
Tumblr media
We have a closer look at the sisters and a fist look at Arendelle castle. What we see here is the back of the castle but also west of the castle.
Tumblr media
Then we get another look at the iconic Clock Tower behind a lamp post.
Tumblr media
And finally we see the sisters walking by the Clock Tower and by its side we can see another glimpse of Elsa's Ice Castle.
Tumblr media
So that's the whole promotional video for the 'World of Frozen' in the new Disney Park in Japan. Though the storyline is set a year after Frozen and a month after Frozen Fever (given Frozen was set in July), Elsa and Anna in the Parks are in their Frozen 2 epilogue attire for promotional purposes of Frozen 2 and all other media set after, I believe. So that means the Southern Isles and Arendelle are on good terms now. As for Hans, we don't know what he's up to. I'm certain he has recovered from his injuries and his punishment must be over a month or two from the Summer Snow Day. Since then, we have heard nothing of where he is or what he's up to. So his current status is unknown.
But a theory goes that he is Wolfgang in disguise 🥸 But I'll save that for another post. For now, here's the breakdown to the video of the 'World of Frozen' attraction in Japan's new Disney Park.
Part 2 ft more Easter eggs in another snippet of the Arendelle park here...

Meghan’s lecture on ‘service’ is hard to take
17 May 2023, 1:06pm
Alexander Larman
Since the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare in January, Meghan has kept an unusually low profile by her standards. Her non-appearance at the coronation earlier in the month was widely interpreted as a snub to the Royal Family, whom she has missed no opportunity to castigate.
Now the Duchess of Sussex is making a comeback – but her vapid speech at an awards ceremony in New York last night shows little has changed. Meghan was in town to accept a ‘Women of Vision’ award at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s 50th anniversary event. The Duchess declared that:
‘It’s just never too late to start. You can be the visionary of your own life. You can charter a path in which what you repeat in your daily acts of service, in kindness, in advocacy, in grace and in fairness, that those become the very things that are recognised by the next wave of women, both young and old, who will also choose this moment to join the movement and make our vision for an equitable world reality.’
If Meghan’s talk of service sounded oddly familiar, there’s a good reason. In April 1947, Princess Elizabeth made one of the most famous public statements of her life, half a decade before she became queen. In a speech that she made from South Africa on her 21st birthday, she said:
‘I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.’
The speech is now regarded as the beginning of a pact the Queen made with her people, and which she assiduously followed until her death in September last year. Whatever you say about Elizabeth II, you cannot accuse her of not being dutiful. Meghan’s speech appears to be an attempt to emulate Elizabeth’s sentiments, albeit with a decidedly 21st-century spin.
What Meghan appears to forget, however, is that Elizabeth is remembered for her words, not merely because she said them, but because she went on to dedicate her life to service in the way in which she promised. As Meghan says herself, ‘it’s never too late to start’ – but if Meghan really is hoping to follow in the Queen’s footsteps, she has a long way to go.
Meghan’s address sounded like more of the platitudinous sentiment that has gone down well in certain quarters of American opinion and on the Duchess’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast. But it will leave the average person shaking their head in disbelief. Her exhortation that ‘daily acts of service’ will be the means by which people will seize their emancipation is hard to swallow: among her own ‘acts of service’ have, so far, included making a fortune from Netflix and Spotify and railing against her husband’s family. Self-service would seem a more accurate description when it comes to Meghan.
The ongoing psychodrama (the unkind would call it a soap opera) of the Sussexes’s lives might seem to have been temporarily becalmed by Harry’s dignified and correct appearance at his father’s coronation; he did everything he needed to do, did it well and did not overshadow the day in any regard. Meghan might, of course, declare that her appearance at last night’s gala was nothing to do with the Royal Family. Instead, she may say, it represents another chapter in her being a self-described visionary of her own life. Yet in the appropriation of the Queen’s famous words in a tawdry fashion, it seems that, rather than being a true woman of vision, Meghan is stuck in a self-regarding spiral that she shows no desire to drag herself out of.

“I work with several publicists in LA and they say that Harry and Meghan aren’t considered for high-profile events because the fear is that all eyes will be on them and that will take away from the cause,” says Kinsey Schofield, an American royal commentator and the host of the To Di For Daily podcast. “I think people are starting to hesitate in associating with them because they seem to be a dramatic pair that fixates on the negative.”

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Later, Gary became part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and was one of its first presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies. I hope your Monday wasn't too crazy! I'm gonna keep it short tonight because I am nodding off.
I know sometimes we do things when we're not feeling very well that we regret. I know sometimes we get so far progress wise, but then we revert a little bit because the day was just too much. Sometimes we even say or do things that hurt others, even if we don't mean to, but it happens.
Just remember lovelies that that doesn't make you a bad person.
We all make mistakes. We are all human, and none of us are infallible.
You are going through so much. You are dealing with the stressors of the day, of the week, of the year, of the country, of the global climate, hell you're dealing with the stressors of keeping you and your loved ones fed, and clothed and sheltered, or maybe you're dealing with a physical ailment.
Whatever it is, you're dealing with A LOT. We all have bad days.
Making mistakes is how we grow. Give yourself some grace lovelies, you deserve grace too.
Anyway, that's enough out of me, goodnight crew, I hope your dreams are sweet, and your rest is full.

real feminism talking points
Meghan should not be hosting a feminism-themed podcast.
Here's why:
--Meghan has documented bullying claims made against her. She bullied other women in the workplace. These are well-documented by the Times correspondent Valentine Low; the Sussexes' lawyers were contacted and did not have any legal complaints, nor did they ever sue. There was an investigation by an independent law firm. She was not cleared. The findings were kept private for the victims' safety.
--Meghan trashed her sister-in-law on television over a petty fight before a big wedding. I mean, really! She can talk about motherhood all she wants, but to have no empathy for someone else who was pregnant and post-partum smacks of hypocrisy. Even if Meghan's account is true, it says a lot about her that she was so publicly catty; she actually fed into misogynist tropes by saying anything.
--Additionally, Meghan has coordinated with royal and entertainment writers like Omid Scobie for Finding Freedom, which bashed Catherine’s choices as a woman to stay home with her kids and lack of career in her 20s. On the latter point, it is important to point out Catherine was in a lose/lose situation. She did have a job and was harassed going to/from daily. She had to quit. Any other job she might have gotten would have been scrutinized as her using William’s connections, her social climbing, etc.
And yes, the Duchess of Cambridge has, in fact, faced misogynist coverage over her time in the public. So for Meghan to claim that it was only "rudeness" is inaccurate. She should be called out on this -- whether Meghan realized what Kate's treatment consisted of, she was incorrect. Feelings aren't facts. This isn’t anything that should be compared; it is not a contest of who had it worse.
--The Sussexes are complicit with the squad. They have contacted members. They have purchased bots. The squad spreads rumors about family members, attacks children, and uses sexist demeaning language toward their relatives.
Familial abuse and estrangement are hell. Meghan and Harry are building their "brand" on it.
