Plz plz plz talk to me about 1972 Phantom (and all of your ghouls at all times plz thanks) 💜💜💜
Someone else mentioned they wanted 1972 Phantom, so I'm giving you 1789 Cumulus, which was brought about after chatting with @gravehags about Rococo Ghouls. (I'll tag you when I post the Phantom one!)
Cumulus and Rain are serving Papa Henri LeClerc, a Belgian Papa Emeritus. They are visiting Versailles.
“I have but one final treat for you! Now, a new one…I invite you to sing along if you know the words. Yes, dears, you!” Papa gestured broadly out to the crowd, then coaxed his ghouls to begin. Cumulus began a cheery little wisp of a song on the harpsichord and there was a few chuckles from the audience. Papa tossed his head back and held onto his coat, and with a jovial grin he began.
“*Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso! Notte e giorno d'intorno girando…Delle belle turbando il riposo! Narcisetto, Adoncino d'amor!”*
It was the most recent tune from that genius from Salzburg, and Papa hung onto every word with an amusing eyebrow wiggle here, a broad grin there. His voice was deep but good natured, just like he was. The softness of his form, his friendly rotundness reflected the inner warmth and generosity of his spirit. Papa Henri scanned the room as he sang, caught Cumulus’ eye and threw her a wink.
"…*farfallone amoroso!”*
Cumulus found herself smiling behind her mask. The human was a fascinating creature, filled with jokes and surprises. This was the smallest retinue of ghouls in an age, but they were a tight knit circle of oddballs. There were nights where they tried to outdo each other with stupid harpsichord tricks or increasingly bizarre riddles. Games of an elaborate version of strip baccara that Cumulus Ghoul always seemed to win.
Cumulus caught Rain rolling his eyes at her as he played his cello. The instrument uttered the exasperated groan the prissy ghoul desired to make.

FICTIONAL CHARACTER ASK: FIGARO

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM: Lovable Trickster Character Archetype my beloved! Figaro has so many dimentions: he is cunning and ambitious, he is loyal and simple, he is witty and rational, he is sensitive and passionate, he is funny, he has moments of melancholic pathos. All the while never becoming exageratly complicated, he keeps being a character who is easy and accessible for the audience to follow.
LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM: His crisis of jealousy against his bride Susanna in the ACT IV of Marriage of Figaro. I can’t avoid asking in my head: “Figaro, if Susanna had any intention of betraying you, do you think she would have told you and Countess Rosina about Count Almaviva’s attempts of seducing her, and build a plot to expose the Count to public shame? No, she would have kept shut up. Why are you distrussing her now”? Yes, i know the librettist Da Ponte needed something to replace the anti-nobility rant of Beaumarchais original play to avoid censorship over the opera, but couldn’t have come up with something instead of the sudden crisis of jealousy and acusing all women of being unfaithfull cliché?
THREE THINGS I HAVE IN COMMON WITH THEM:
*The playfull sense of humour.
*The contempt for the aristocracy.
*Love for Susanna.
THREE THINGS I DON’T HAVE IN COMMON WITH THEM:
*I am female.
*I am not spanish.

RANDOM HEADCANON: He met and fell in love with Susanna during a Street Carnaval Party: he was dressed in a Arlechino costume, she was dressed as Colombina. Since he was with a fully covering mask, Susanna didn’t saw his face. So the first characteristic of his that enchanted her was his voice, when he went out to serenade her with the spanish folk song “A La Una Yo Nací”.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: Rigoletto may be the most iconic baritone role... for people that already consider themselves opera fans. For casual viewers, if you ask to remember a famous opera sanged in a very heavy voice, they won’t think of “Cortigiani vil razza danata”. They will think in “Largo Al Factotum”, sanged by Figaro in Barber of Seville. So in pop culture, Figaro basically is not only the most iconic baritone role, but probably the most iconic male character of opera in general.

Le nozze di Figaro, in breve
Le nozze di Figaro di Mozart è invece la classica commedia degli equivoci. Come un equivoco è che vi si trovi Figaro che canta Largo al factotum, quello è Rossini, Il barbiere di Siviglia. Trattasi dello stesso ciclo di opere di Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais, come se Rossini avesse musicato Twilight e Mozart New Moon.
Narrasi la giornata che conduce allo sposalizio tra Figaro e la bella Susanna, osteggiato dal contino che vorrebbe invece fare un’eccezione per lei ristabilendo lo ius primae noctis (la Susanna è come d’uso una tutta panna con le bocce strizzatissime nel corsetto malandrino in cui nasconde un po’ di tutto, dalle canzoni d’amore al palpitar dei desii). La trama è inestricabile, troppi gli equivoci e troppi i personaggi, le situazioni che condurranno al lieto fine in un crescendo di comicità.
Aria più famosa: Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso (”notte e giorno d'intorno girando, delle belle turbando il riposo, narcisetto, Adoncino d'amor”), rivolto da Figaro a Cherubino, un paggetto di corte che saltella da un amorino all’altro (”Non so piú cosa son, cosa faccio ... Or di foco, ora sono di ghiaccio ... Ogni donna cangiar di colore, Ogni donna mi fa palpitar”), con una speciale predilezione per la contessa (cherubino è un soprano, cioè interpretato da una donna).

Lestat’s Song from Interview with the Vampire
Maybe I’m the only one who gives a crap but this has been a major revelation to me. So for the others who are clueless, I thought I’d share my new-found knowledge. We all remember this scene, right?
I watched this movie for the first time at 13, and I’ve been trying to imitate Lestat’s singing ever since, but it’s really bloody hard to Google lyrics when it’s in a language you don’t understand. Was it some French country song? Something they wrote just for this movie? I couldn’t have told you. Then, for the very first time in my life, I thanked God for YouTube comments, because someone who knows their foreign languages (or at least their operas) far better than I posted the lyrics! “Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso, notte e giorno d'intorno girando.” I immediately felt like an idiot because all these years I’ve been searching for stuff in French and that’s CLEARLY Italian, wow girl. But anyway. Google informed me that these lyrics are from the opening aria of Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro,” which explains why I’ve never bloody heard it (if I’m listening to classical, it’s Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, or Debussy; Mozart gives me a headache.)  You can hear it sung in context from 0:25 to 0:31 here. This immediately makes Lestat look like even more of a jerkwad than this movie already does because that little ditty translates to: You shall frolic no more, lustful butterfly, Day and night flitting to and fro.
I mean geez, Lestat, you didn’t even know the lady! Maybe everyone else knows and I’m just clueless, but I’m heartily grateful that my twelve-year search is at its end, even if I now have to practice my opera voice.
