We are celebrating the traditional Japanese custom of Hanami (花見) in the heart of Night City. We’ll revel in the transient beauty of flowers while contemplating on whether you wanna wither away of old age or go out in a blaze of glory.

Do I Wanna Know? Chapter One

Sunset Motel

The Badlands, 2078

V, Queen of the Afterlife and Night City's most famous (living) solo, strolls into the bar of the Sunset Motel, looking for a client. She doesn't expect to run into Mitch Anderson.

Mitch: (Is that...?)

V: (This meeting should have been an email.)

Mitch: V! Thought that was you!

V: Mitch! Good to see you, choom! Been awhile.

Mitch: How the hell are ya? Buy you a beer?

V: Sorry, can't. Was just meeting a client to get detes for a gig.

Mitch: Why's anyone out here calling you and not Dakota?

V: Already did. Dakota referred 'em to me. Need the best.

Mitch: Now, hold on. You're going after those Raffen, aren't you? By yourself?

V: Yeah?

Mitch: Got a plan? Even know where to find 'em?

V: Not tryna tell me how to do my job...?

Mitch: Aw hell, I'm sorry, V. Just think you're gonna need backup. And... Just can't let a friend go off alone like that. Not again. Not if I can help it.

Mitch: Not a chance. Taking out Raffen's payment enough.

V: (Wouldn't have even been there 'cept for me... Fuck...)

Guess I better cut you in on the pay.

V: At least lemme buy you that beer after.

Mitch: Heh, it's a deal.

V: Actually... got 'nother idea. Let's go.

Mitch: What's this about, V?

V: Ah, here we go. 'Bout righting a wrong. Time I return Overwatch to her owner.

Mitch: What! Absolutely not. I gave that to—

V: Gave it to Panam, not me.

Mitch: Not the point—

V: Gonna watch my ass or what? 'Sides, I'm a lousy shot with it.

Mitch: (Did she...?) You're sure? Alright. Made some upgrades to her. Didn't know you liked to tinker.

V: Heh, yeah. Little bit.

Mitch: Listen, V... Thanks.

V: You're welcome, Mitch. Now, ready to go kick some Raffen ass? Or are you rusty and gotta warm up on some scavs first?

Mitch: Gimme a break, kid. Like riding a bike.

Cyber Hanami 2023 - Day 4

Vox and River take it slow.

“Easy, baby. Ride it slow.”

They’ve yet to get used to the rhythm of each other’s bodies, their dance uncoordinated, less than elegant. A hurricane of grasping limbs and flushed skin, of lips aching to be captured by the other’s wanting mouth. And still they come back together time and time again, perfecting their choreography, learning with each buck and grind how to make the other fall apart.

“That’s my girl,” River coos as V’s tempo slows, matching the steady, almost gentle rolling of his hips. She bites down on her rouge-smeared lip, trying to hide a smile, but River knows– V loves his praise, and his alone. His hand finds a home against her abdomen, softly caressing the tender flesh he secretly hopes will one day carry his children.

V looks at him with those big eyes of hers, a boundless forest of green, and River can’t help but think that they were destined to be. A collision of celestial bodies, an inevitability; they fit into each other so perfectly that the universe couldn’t have had it any other way. His fingers trail down to the heat between her thighs, caressing her sweet slickness, and V graces him with a chorus of whimpers in response.

“River,” she pleads, a barely audible whisper into his darkened room. What she would’ve just greedily taken before has become an exercise in restraint, patience. He slides her swollen bud between two fingers, relishing the way her pretty mouth falls open at the sensation. “F-Fuck…”

A vision of beauty, his sun-kissed Aphrodite. River’s discipline is cracking with every flutter of her lashes, every quiet supplication; he’d gift her the air from his lungs if she asked him to. His chrome hand cups the back of her head, bringing her forehead down to meet his. He can still feel the scar from the bullet that nearly killed her against his flesh, a reminder of his lover’s fragility.

“Mi amor,” V purrs against his lips, hips swaying in a dance that has him breathless. The knot in his abdomen is threatening to come undone, fingers that were once deliberate falling to desperation. He arches into her, relishing her softness, the generosity with which she opens herself to him. His hands are but her playthings, carved from the earth for the sole purpose of bringing her pleasure.

A gasp, a sweet surprise. V crashes into him like waves against a rocky shore, fierce and feral, drowning him in an ocean of endless bliss. His only succor are her hips, the last anchor tethering him to the world. She clings to him just as tightly, riding him into transcende, until finally, they both succumb to each other.

V falls into River’s broad chest, cheek hot against his flesh, and he leans in to kiss the freckles scattered over the bridge of her nose. Her bubblegum curls smell of jasmine, a scent he’s come to associate with comfort. She feels small, almost delicate in his arms as she falls asleep, but River knows that when the daylight comes he’ll have to break her all over again.

Day 4 Falling - 夢胡蝶 (Dream)

Was it me dreaming of you or you dreaming of me?

This piece is about the time when Vân is trapped in Mikoshi. I wanted to depict a dark twist to the "Zhuang Zhou Dreams of Being a Butterfly", so in this case it's not a nice dream but a waking nightmare for both of them. There's also a meaning of metamorphosis in this too.
