FRESH BOLLYWOOD AUDIENCE INSIGHTS - & SOME BOLLYWOOD PSEPHOLOGY, FOR A CHANGE!

One thing that this All-Time Bollywood Blockbusters List shows is- The 'Boycott Bollywood' trend since last year, doesn't necessarily have it's origins in outside or political machinations, rather most likely to have been an organic grass-roots people/crowd-driven movement itself (as long suspected). For what these 'All-Time Most Popular Bollywood Films list' throws up is that the large-scale mass Bollywood audience across the past 20th century, has always been a visibly quite apparently 'HINDU AUDIENCE'. And most of what is called 'Urduwood' today on social media, has, believe it or not, never been a trend-setter for audiences, rather always on the fringes of mass appeal, for the past 100 yrs. Even the 3 most popular Muslim actors in Bollywood history, as appears now, Mumtaz, Waheeda Rehman & Meena Kumari, finding major success, only in Hindu backgrounds & subjects, barring only very few exceptions. And though did entertain more heavily westernized changes in 90's, that too within & mixed with the traditional Indian emotional ethos, for a few yrs, Karan Johar there too being the sole exception bucking the pro-traditional trend with his semi-Western bubble gum brand, there too mixed with western fusion desi tadka all along, successful perhaps owing to his comparative sartorial newness & finesse, & that too only twice, most other liberal-tending subjects or presentations seem to've fallen way off the wayside all 90's & mid 2000's till 'Multiplex culture' made it worse for makers, atleast in terms of quantum of ticket sales. Just for perspective, even 70's liberal divas Zeenat Aman & Parveen Babi'd come across as sadhvis in comparison to today's liberal lot!

And further onset of a 2 year Covid-induced home-stay in 2020 giving junta ample time to reflect on everything including their roots, & discover more marvels from the entt of their just-past eras, an experience leaving them terribly dissatisfied with current state of Bollywood affairs. For imagine, how tough it would be, even for as well-oiled & deeply embedded a political or social outfit as RSS to dictate people's choices, even if from within their own fold, in what entt to consume, over a prolonged period of time! Heartland/Hindi audiences it turns out, have always been appreciative of 'catchy' subjects or presentations, & fine judgers of quality, & far far more so than the makers & distributors give them credit for or would have us believe in their clandestine marketing ploys, & have infact always shunned media-marketing of films or stars, as it seems. "Jo Dikhta hai, Bollywood Box-Office pe Sirf Wahi Bikta hai. Na ki jo bola jata hai". As God of Film-Masses, Rajesh Khanna,with more films, be it in Top 100,Top 300,or Top 1360, than next 4 best put together, & the one with best finger on mass-pulse than anyone in history, said- "Ye Public hai babu, Ye Sab Jaanti Hai". And lemme throw in some, while we're at it- "Ye Nautanki ki mandi zaroor hai saab. Par dildaaron ki basti bhi. Yahan sab kuch nahi bikta. Aur kuch bhi toh bilkul nahi".
