cove holden: halloween special !

((the brain rot continues, this time including actual brain rot !))

t/w: graphic descriptions of blood and gore, violence

something was off, cove knew that.

it was just past midnight, the moon still shining bright in the sky and illuminating into his room. although that seemed to be the only light the teal haired boy had.

he woke in a cold sweat, the scratches and pounds on his door just as loud as the pounding in his ears.

whoever, or whatever, was at his door seemed to want in. but cove knew better than that.

he knew it was a mistake to watch that horror movie with his dad, especially when it was late too. he just couldn't resist some family bonding.

and now he had to pay for it.

the scratches and banging seemed to grow louder, rattling the door. cove hid under his blanket, devising a plan to escape. if he was fast enough, he could leave through the window into mc's house.

"cove, help!"

cove froze.

the doorknob rattled and banging continued, seemingly louder.

"cove, please! let me in!"

that... that was mc's voice!

he leapt out of bed, abandoning his fear for his own safety to ensure mc was ok. thrusting the door wide open, he saw mc, shaking and covered in blood. the look in their eyes screamed fear, as they kept glancing to their side. "cove, thank god! please let me in before it gets me!"

"mc!" cove exclaimed, dragging them inside and closing the door before something unwanted would enter. taking a good look at them, he saw the gashes and cuts littering their body, their matted hair and how part of their leg bent unnaturally.

"oh my god, youre injured badly! we need to find help." cove darted around, using his blanket and some clothes laying around to wipe them clean and to wrap their leg.

he sat them on the bed afterwards, offering them some water. "you need some, it'd help you feel better." he tried after mc denied.

"cove, i'll be ok. i just... i need something to eat. im so... hungry." mc trailed off, staring off into the room. cove looked at where they were looking, before turning back to them. "well we can't go outside just yet, i don't want you getting any more hurt than you already are."

mc didn't seem to hear him, and spoke again. "cove, im just so hungry... i need something to eat..." cove began to panic, unsure of what to do to help. "well i can probably sneak off to get you some food, what would you like-"

"don't leave!" the scream made cove fall backwards, looking terrified at mc's unnaturally angry tone. they stood up, not caring for their leg as they looked down at cove with a manic look.

"m-mc, wha-" cove started, starting to crawl backwards as mc slowly stalked towards him. he felt like he was a prey trapped, his heartbeat in his ears. "mc, what is going on with you? y-youre scaring me!"

mc froze. they seemed to straighten up a little. "sorry, i didn't mean to scare you. here, let me help you up." they held their hand out.

hesitantly, cove took it, and stood up with their help. they didn't let go afterwards though. their unnaturally cold hand seemed to have an iron grip. were they... sniffing his hand?

"mc?" he looked at them, trying to yank his hand out of their grip. "you smell... so delicious." they whispered, their pupils dilating.

cove panicked, and landed a solid punch to their face, sending them stumbling to the floor. "oh my god!" he exclaimed, clearly registering what just happened. "mc, im so sorry! i don't know what came over me-"

mc started giggling. then laughing. they let out manic screams of laughter while looking at cove.

the look in their eyes was not human.

"m-mc..?" he whispered, backing up until he was flush with the door. "wh-what's wrong with you?"

the laughing stopped, but mc had an inhuman smile. were their teeth always that sharp?

"come on, cove. i just wanted a little bite!"

they lunged at cove, effectively trapping him in his spot. cove held his hands out as he tried to hold them back from biting any part of him.

"mc, get off of me! you're crazy!" he screamed, successfully pushing them away and trying to escape. he opened his door and fled to his dad's room.

opening the door, he saw his father, standing in front of him and staring. his eyes were glossy, and his father looked like a statue. "dad, you gotta help me, mc is-"

"cove. go back to your room." his father's voice seemed dead, cutting off the boy in a stiff manner. cove looked at his dad, terror in his eyes. "d-dad, what's going on? i'm scared-"

"go back to your room NOW." his father's voice bellowed, eyes bleeding. cove didn't need to be told twice as he ran from his father. instead of going to his room however, he ran out the house, heading to mc's house instead.

climbing up to the window, he hurriedly made his way into the room, feeling thankful the latch was unlocked. he locked the window and door, looking for a way to protect himself.

"cove...? what's going on?" a voice groggily spoke, and cove looked over to the bed to see mc. this time they had no blood or gashes, and their leg was not broken.

"oh my god, mc! thank god it's really you. listen, i just can't stay at my house right now, theres some monster there who pretended to be you and i think there's something wrong with my dad-"

"woah, slow down! i got you, youre safe." mc hurried out of bed, hugging cove to calm his fears. he hugged back, holding them like he'd die if he let go.

"god, youre shaking... i got you cove. don't worry. you're safe here." mc soothed him, rubbing his back until he stopped shaking. he breathed a sigh of relief, thankful this nightmare was over.

"there we go, just relax. things will be ok." mc spoke, their voice like an oasis in the desert of nightmares. cove let himself fully relax. he was safe. he will be ok.

what he failed to realize was mc ready to take a bite out of him. sharp teeth sunk into cove's neck as he screamed. he pried mc off of him, blood trailing from their manic smile. their eyes were fully dilated as they looked at him.

"come on cove, you taste delicious!" they lunged at him yet again, and this time cove felt powerless to stop them. they pinned him down with strength he has never seen, gearing up for another bite.

"no!"

he woke up with a start, the sun's light pouring into his room. he was drenched in sweat, breathing heavily as he fumbled for his glasses. his dad burst into the room, clearly worried for his son.

"cove! what happened, bud?" he knelt to the bed, placing a hand on his shoulder. cove struggled to find his voice, trying to properly explain his dream.

"it's alright, you don't have to explain it right now. how about we head to the beach?" his dad sighed, clearly knowing he wouldn't get an answer now. cove nodded, his body on autopilot as he got ready for the day. he was lucky there was no classes that day, it gave him time to forget about the nightmare and excited to go trick or treating with mc.

speaking of mc...

there were knocks at the door just as cove went from his room to the kitchen for breakfast. not even a nightmare could keep cove from an appetite. unless it was a food related nightmare.

"cove! mc is here!" his dad called out, and cove shouted out an ok as he ate. it wasn't too long before he finished and made his way to the door to see mc and his dad idly chatting.

his dad eventually pushed him and mc off to the beach, which cove didn't mind. the beach seemed like a great place to get his mind off the nightmare.

he was at the beach before he knew it, sitting in the sand and watching the waves silently. "whatcha thinking about? you've bee quiet" mc whispers, breaking cove's concentration.

"ah nothing, i just had a weird nightmare last night. watching a scary movie with my dad before bed wasn't the best idea" he laughed weakly, almost missing the look of concern on mc's face.

"are you sure you're okay? we don't have to be out here" mc worries, and cove simply dismisses it, saying "i wouldn't be here if i didn't want to be." mc is quiet after that, most likely unsure on what to say.

"you know, im not really like that." mc says after a while. it confuses cove, what did they mean?

"i wouldn't just pretend to be helpless, that stuff is for beginners. i'd lure you into a false sense of security then boom! game over." they continued, and cove finally clicked the pieces together.

mc laughed at cove's realization and slow attempt of escaping. "poor cove, you thought you could escape? you'll have to try harder than that." mc looked near psychotic as they lunged at cove.

no one could hear his screams from the beach.

everyone was speechless at cove, who finished his campfire story. "cove... i mean this with all due respect but what the fudge." your cousin lee stated, her face pale in fear.

"yeah cove! where did you get a story like that?!" you exclaimed, your older sister agreeing with you. the teal haired boy merely shrugged, mumbling about a movie or book.

"well i think that's where we wrap up and go to sleep, buddies. unless mc devours us in our sleep of course!" terri joked, causing you to let out a squack of offense. alas, you wrapped up for the night, heading into your respective tents to sleep.

letting the story slip from your mind, you drifted off into sleep. hopefully that snap of a twig was your mind playing tricks on you.
