When it comes to mechanics and bullshit ways of obtaining pokemon I don't think I've ever seen Zorua/Zoroark come up.
Outside of having a friend that could breed you one the only in game way to get it was;
Have HG/SS and in it have obtained an Event Celebi - From what I can find the Celebi has to be one transferred from a Gen IV game so the later obtainable one in XY from pokemon bank in 2013-14 would not work to activate it.
Oh but guess what the only way to get an 'fateful encounter' / event Celebi in HG/SS is only the specific Ageto Celebi, a Japan only Celebi distributed for the Gen 3 games.
So not only do you need two different gen games, but a specific in person event only legendary that's essentially region locked all to trigger an in game event to acquire this Pokemon, but you go do all that work for a Pokemon that's not even considered to be a Mythical.
Like honestly it wouldn't be so bad if like Zorua itself was actually obtainable as like a rare encounter in a specific location with the special encounter/ in game event one maybe having like a special move or hidden ability (maybe even shiny idk) making it still special and unique compared to a randomly encountered one but also still allowing the average player to you know be able to use this Pokemon.
What arguably makes it worse is they pulled the same thing not just once but twice in the same game. This time with its evolution- Zoroark. And look I'm aware obviously to an extent this was clearly done in away to promote the movie and I also I can only assume as away to get people to use/try out the transfer feature between games but that doesn't make it any less dumb imo.
To get Zoroark you must transfer in one of the Shiny event Legendary Beasts that were distributed either via in store at a Gamestop -that as far as I can find was a USA only distribution, or a later via Wifi distribution that also looks like it was USA only. (There was also a in life distribution in Japan for the movie as well as looks like Oceania areas had a Wifi)
Then you transfer that bad boy from you gen IV game into BW thus allowing you to activate the event and acquire yourself a Zoroark.
And look I have nothing against distribution events or having like in game things being put behind something like that it's a cool idea and hardly nothing new for them to do something in promotion/celebration of a new movie however the sheer fact they did this for a non legendary/mythical pokemon and not even offering some alternate way to obtain it via a regular play through feels like kind of a bad design.
Which hey guess what that also means, it means that the vast majority of people would never be able to 100% the Unova pokedex- not even national just the plain regular REGIONAL dex could not be completed because they decided to lock one of the Pokemon by a near impossible wall. And the Pokemon company/game freak has always done things that have walled off your average player from obtaining certain Pokemon.
Thankfully come BW2 they did offer an in game way of acquiring one through N's Zoroark.

Name: Whomp
Debut: Super Mario 64
You know what I’ve been thinking about lately? Super Mario 64. Haven’t we all, really? Between all the recent datamines and general online discussion, I can’t help but wonder about Super Mario 64!
Something I don’t think Mario 64 gets enough appreciation for, is being the birthplace of our beloved Whomps! At least, I certainly belove them. Don’t you? We’ve covered pretty much every “Thwomp” variant in the past, and sure, Whomps may be nowhere near the “obscure” side of enemies, but a splendid design is a good thing to appreciate anytime!
Tumblr media
Not only is this their debut, but they get a whole stage themed around them: the Whomp’s Fortress, if by “fortress” you mean a vague collection of scattered obstacles and platforms floating in the sky, like most 64 stages! That sure is a lot of... textures! My favorite part is the little paddling pool near the bottom.
Tumblr media
And who could forget the Whomp in all their original polygonal glory? Clearly they just wanted to make an enemy who is just a rectangle with a texture on top, yet the design had all its charm even back then! The sunken eyes with glowing red pupils, the H-shaped mouth with the crooked teeth... it’s very cute, in an ugly way. And on the back, their weak spot is a crack with a bandage on top! Adorable!
Tumblr media
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it- that’s why the Whomp has only really had a few subtle redesigns over the years! When they appeared in Mario 64 DS, they looked just a little bit nicer to look at. They were also in New Super Mario Bros. DS, using the same model- a 3D only enemy in a 2D game, how strange indeed! Their first appearance in a new mainline game in 10 whole years- and it probably just happened because they wanted to reuse assets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another redesign? Don’t mind if I do! The Whomp’s grand return to the third dimension happened in Mario Galaxy 2, really cementing them (hah) as a modern Mario classic. This time, they’re huge! And square-ish! And uh, their eyes aren’t wacky anymore. No longer having a band-aid, they instead have a big ground-pound symbol on their back now, which must be just awful, right? Can you imagine having a big logo emblazoned on your back which says “crush me with your butt here”?
Tumblr media
This here is their artwork from Mario Party 9. It’s the same as the art from Galaxy 2, but their eyes are glowy now. I just thought this was funny.  But I’m getting ahead of myself here! Before I talk about Mario Party, I need to talk about...
Tumblr media
Their monarch, the big bad Whomp King! He’s just... He’s just a big Whomp. He acts just like other Whomps, but he’s big and takes three hits. What’s totally memorable about this boss, though, is the villain monologue he gives before fighting!
“It makes me so mad! We build your houses, your castles, we pave your roads, and still you walk all over us. Do you ever say thank you? No! Well, you're not going to wipe your feet on me. I think I'll crush you just for fun! Do you have a problem with that? Just try to pound me, wimp! Ha!”
Uh oh! Looks like Mario’s world has a little problem with under-valuing essential workers! Good thing our world has nothing like that. Well, jokes aside, it’s a pretty cheeky nod at how the Whomps are made of stone- but one has to wonder much of this tragic backstory is serious! It must be a pretty nasty lot in life, huh?
Tumblr media
Don’t feel bad- in 64 DS and Mario Galaxy 2, the Whomp King got a snazzy new crown! At least someone appreciates him a bit!
Tumblr media
Well, it wasn’t just him: Galaxy 2′s Throwback Galaxy was one big reimagining of Whomp’s Fortress, meaning this is probably the most Whomp-focused game released in the past decade. The music was remixed, the boss fight was revamped- all in all, a lovely throwback indeed!
And the Whomp has basically just... stuck around! You may have noticed the image at the top (from Super Mario Party) has a slightly different design, being a little more rectangular with smaller, thinner eyes and a more angular mouth! They definitely redesigned the Whomp again at some point, but I couldn’t tell you exactly when... Either way, I’m glad they’re here for good!
Tumblr media
Not that Whomps ever really went anywhere! In the years between Super Mario 64 and its remake, Whomps survived almost exclusively in Mario Party (and other spin-offs), functioning mainly as roadblocks that don’t allow the player to pass!
Which brings me to my final point- between their design and this function, the Whomp is most likely based on the mythological yōkai called... the Nurikabe! And since I’d love nothing more, I’ll now go into a long-winded tangent about what the Nurikabe is, and... Hey, wait!! Come back! It’ll be interesting, I swear! Don’t cut off the post! Hey-
Yeah, yeah. You’re all sick of my long-winded yōkai posts. But I’m happy you joined me here, even if it was out of pity. Let’s talk about the Nurikabe!
Tumblr media
Look at this big guy! What a card! Nurikabe literally translates to plaster wall, and they take the form of a big invisible wall that blocks the way of travellers at night. Since they’re invisible, they naturally don’t have many illustrations- leave it to Shigeru Mizuki to depict them as a large, goofy-looking slab of stone! This Nurikabe joined the main cast of the GeGeGe no Kitaro manga, and thus quickly became a cornerstone (haha) of their popular depictions!
Tumblr media
(To be fair, there does exist an old illustration of the Nurikabe as a strange, lumpy dog thing... but I’m not MUCH of a fan? I think a literal stone wall is so much more charming!)
Tumblr media
Come on, look at this! What could be better?
Tumblr media
Ōkami has a rather lovely Nurikabe-looking guy! Though his design is splendid, if you’ve played Ōkami you likely remember him as “the extremely frustrating memory puzzle” or “the memory puzzle that is literally scientifically impossible for the human brain to solve”. Shame!
Tumblr media
Yo-kai Watch has the Murikabe, a.k.a “Noway” in the English version! “Muri” means “no way”. So like, it’s a pun. Hoho.
Tumblr media
Nioh’s Nurikabe is quite scary, but also rather cool! Don’t you think? I still know very little about Nioh, but whenever I look at its yōkai I think “Dang! That’s cool!”, and I’m right, and it is cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Super Sentai series has two whole Nurikabe monsters, each based on a different Nurikabe look! While the latter is quite cool, I’m in love with the former and its weird, grungy brick wall look! It’s like, the dictionary definition of Gnarly! Though I know very little about tokukatsu shows, I think its kind of fascinating how creative they can get with designing humanoid monsters suits!
You may be wondering: was this entire post just a thinly-veiled excuse for me to talk about the Nurikabe? And to that I say:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaybe....???

about the sonic/mega man crossover, how would Sonic figure into it? would Sonic be like a player 2, maybe have his own separate side story, or what?
i was like 'hmm i haven't thought about it much so i guess this'll be a quick ask' and then the part of my brain that's thought about sonic level design every day for the past ten years awakened and i wrote so fucking much [and tragically it's not even illustrated this time] so this is gonna be under a cut again bhjfkngbkjg
there's a handful of ways you could go about this but i imagine it'd work like classic and modern sonic in generations where every stage has one act for sonic and one act for mega man that you can play in either order! alternatively the sonic rush approach where they both have their own story and you beat both to unlock the final boss could work. there's also the idea of doing it like sonic rush adventure or mega man and bass where you pick one character at the beginning of each stage and can go the entire game only playing as one of them, but this wouldn't really work for the same reason it didn't work in mega man and bass dialled up to 11 - sonic and mega man gameplay are so fundamentally different from each other that it's almost impossible to design a level that's equally fun and fair to play through for both of them. either sonic has to slog through a slow-paced level filled with enemies that can attack him from afar with no way for him to counter from a distance, or rock is constantly tripping over his own big ol robot boots as he stumbles through a level that's throwing shit at him from every possible direction faster than he can reasonably react
sonic's gameplay would probably function more or less identically to sonic colours, i'm thinking for consistency's sake it'd pull from the ds port rather than the wii version so that the entire game is a sidescrolling platformer. all the wii-exclusive wisps [cube, hover, spikes] work in two dimensions and two out of those three are exclusive to the 2d segments so there'd be no issues with squeezing those down to a purely sidescrolling experience, as opposed to the logistical nightmare of making up a way for every single colour power to function in 3d - sonic lost world on 3ds kinda did that for red burst if my memory is correct but it's just not as fun. also i think the thing modern sonic does sometimes where it switches between 2 and 3d mid-level is clunky but that's just me
the reason i talk about wisp logistics is that of course sonic's still gonna have the wisps. nearly all of them would function pretty identically to their ingame incarnations, but unlike in regular sonic colours where you can only use certain wisps in certain spots in certain levels, they'd act more like mega man's weapons where sonic can activate and deactivate them at will until an energy gauge runs out. [i say 'nearly all' because as i mentioned in the last post about this au i think blue cube sucks ass and that'd be even more apparent if you could use it whenever you want. keep some optional ring/cube puzzles for funsies, that's fine, but i'm envisioning a heavier emphasis on the ground pound aspect of it that the game sorta glosses over so that it feels less underwhelming]
just as rock unlocks a new weapon with every robot master defeated, sonic unlocks a new colour power. of course this means that even sonic's levels would have to be almost completely reworked so that you can beat any of them without a single colour power, since i wanna keep the near-total non-linearity from mega man, but honestly i think you could make just as fun a sonic colours experience treating wisps like this. side note, i think i heard a rumour or leak or whatever the kids call it now that sonic colours ultimate is leaning towards this approach, and i have no idea if it's true or not [after all the playable tails rumour [which i had a very vivid dream about while staying at my grandparents' house one summer when i was i think 9 or thereabouts, i wanted it to be real so bad] turned out to be not real :(] but if it is that'll fucking rule
also this should've gone earlier but i can't find a good place to insert it so i'm just saying that both sonic and mega man's gameplay styles will probably lean a bit closer to each other so it doesn't feel too jarring for fans of only one series. since i love both i could just rip straight from their respective titles and it wouldn't matter but unfortunately i care about game design. the core gameplay would be pretty identical for both of them, it'd just be little differences - mega man levels naturally flow faster and the punishment for charging in headfirst is a little more gentle, sonic levels have tighter platforming and encourage a slightly more thoughtful approach without sacrificing the momentum-based gameplay. sonic's stages are a bit trickier than usual [at least on par with the genesis games] and require deliberate skillful movement, mega man's stages are more forgiving and give you more room to breathe, striking a tough but fair balance between 'sometimes challenging but rarely distressingly so' sonic and 'for the love of god please help me' mega man. each character still plays distinctly like themselves, but with adjustments to make it easier for a fan of specifically one series to ease into the other's playstyle, and also so that the constant shifting between two different gameplay styles feels more natural and less jarring
really the biggest issue that this hypothetical crossover poses in terms of gameplay is bosses. of course the robot masters are gonna be the main bosses, but who's gonna fight them? rock could take on the robot masters while sonic fights his own guys, but sonic bosses aren't nearly as interesting as robot masters by nature of each series' core design [sonic is all about the levels themselves whereas mega man is pretty much defined by the showdown with each boss]. is the boss a separate, self-enclosed act 3 you can choose either character for? what's the point of a mega man level that doesn't end in a boss fight, though? is there a forced structure of act 1 as sonic and act 2 as mega man? do they BOTH fight the robot master at the end of their act? if so, how did he come back when he got beaten the first time, but not the second? i guess i'll go with they both fight the robot master and he just teleports away from whoever beats him first or something, but it feels like an incomplete solution and it bothers me lmao
obviously the boss issue only comes up with the robot master stages and the boss rush [would you even want to do a boss rush if you've already had to beat them twice] because the obligatory egg/wily stages at the end would be fine with more generic bosses - maybe the actual bosses from sonic colours repurposed for the final levels, at least on sonic's side of things. the true final boss would naturally have you switch between the two of them in a completely different gameplay style that you have to learn fast or die trying a la sonic adventure 2 or the rushes, and almost definitely is the nega-mother wisp from colours ds

ABOUT  THE  MEANING  OF  SERIES  ONE
________________________________________________________________
INTRODUCTION - USER MANUAL - CHAPTER LIST
Tumblr media
A little while ago I made a short summary and overview of my ideas and theories regarding the events round the ‘Reichenbach Fall’ - including (mostly) the episodes ASIB, THOB, TRF and TEH - I called it: The Big Question.
This new post can be seen as a prequel to The Big Question. It deals with the episodes of Series One (including the Unaired Pilot). Unlike the other post, this is less about a possible decoding of the actual stories told in those episodes, but more about the probable funktion of Series One as ...
introduction (ASIP)
user manual (TBB)
chapter list (TGG)
,,, for Sherlock BBC as a whole. If S1 - and especially TGG - is, what I think it is, perhapst TGG as the ‘chapter list’ could provide some interesting hints regarding a possible continuation of the stoy, that feels at the end of TFP still very unfinished.
Enjoy this idea if you like under the cut ...
UNAIRED PILOT  &  A STUDY IN PINK
The most important function is, of course, the introduction of the main characters
Sherlock Holmes
Dr. John Watson
Mrs. Martha Louise Hudson - landlady not the housekeeper
Dr. Molly Hooper - pathologist
DI Greg Lestrade
DS Sally Donovan (different actors in PILOT & ASIP)
Philip Anderson - forensic scientist (wears a beard in PILOT)
Therapist Ella Thompson
Jeff Hope - serial killer
Mycroft Holmes (online appearance in PILOT)
Moriarty (name mentioned only ASIP)
Tumblr media
Some interesting details of PILOT
The very first e-mail Sherlock opens is from Mycroft. He asks online for his brothers advice regarding ‘an impossible situation’. Sherlock answers with the famous canon Holmes quote: ‘When you have eliminated the impossible whatever remains must be the truth.’
Sherlock calls John ‘good, old Dr. Watson’ only hours after their aquaintance. This phrase is from the last paragraph of the last canon story His Last Bow and it continues: “You are the one fixed point in a changing age. There’s an east wind coming … ”
John shoots serial killer Jeff Hope from the house opposite 221b Baker Street. In the canon story The Empty House, this is the spot Colonel Moran (right hand man of Prof. Moriarty and only survivor of his criminal network) chooses for his planned assassination of Sherlock Holmes. He gets caught in his own trap.
The topics ‘chess’, ‘playing the game’ and ‘a choice between two different options’ appear for the first time and will turn out to become a recurring theme through all currently existing episodes.
Ella, the ‘changeable’ therapist is later in the story replaced by a dead therapist in an airing cupboard, then by Elsa who finally turns out to be Eurus/Sherlock
Near the end of the episode a dog barks in the night … and dogs too will become a main theme that runs throughout the whole story, culminating in RedBeard. (Shoes for the Hound  Dogs of the Mind Palace)
ASIP is, basically, a repetition of PILOT. The main differences (among some strange and seemingly unnecessary ones X) are:
The barking of a dog can be heard again. This time though at the beginning of the episode, immediately after John wakes from his nightmare and before he meets Sherlock for the first time (X)
Instead of five, ther are four victims. All of them get names. The phone of Jennifer Wilson, the pink lady, can be located by a tracking device called ‘MePhone’ (MyHeart?)
While in PILOT Sherlock approaches the killer, in ASIP it is the killer who approaches Sherlock (X X)
The final confrontation between detective and killer is moved from 221b Baker Street to a public school. John shoots Jeff Hope from the twin building of the school opposite
While in PILOT John throws his gun into the Thames, he keeps it in ASIP
Mycroft Homes appears in person and, at first, incognito. He declares himself to be Sherlock’s ‘arch enemy’. This leads to the assumption that he could be Holmes’ famous antagonist from canon … Professor James Moriarty. Only by the end of the episode it becomes clear that the mysterious man is actually Sherlock’s older brother
Another main character is added .… Moriarty. He is the sponsor of serial killer Hope and a ‘fan’ of Sherlock Holmes. To introduce Moriarty already in the first episode is a major divergence from canon in this adaptation
Tumblr media
THE BLIND BANKER
This episode seems to serve as an ‘user manual’ for the whole story which indicates how ‘the game is played’ by introducing certain elements that will recur again and again in different variations:
locked murder mysteries and a killer who can break into everywhere
protections of high security facilities are bypassed or fail or suddenly cease to exist
secret informations, ancient cypers, codes, hidden messages and the indication that there will be a regular change of those codes by using a different book (a different story/a different stage play?)
the search for something very small but most valuable (a memory?)
the past is important (valuable information is found at the National Antiquities Museum=history)
smuggling things of great wealth connected to the East (past?) …. drugs and antiquities  (chemistry of love and memories out of the past?)
theatre stages on different levels, masks and disguises (X)
character mirrors ((Soo Lin//Sherlock;  Liang ‘Zhi Zhu’//Mycroft & Jim Moriarty (the brother and the spider);  Andy//John;  city boy Van Coon//Sherlock;  freelance journalist Lukis//John)
character switching (at the circus (on stage) John becomes Sherlock, Dr. Sarah Sawyer becomes Dr. John Watson)
family dynamics: sibling rivalry, dead parents, orphans
criminal networks (emotions?) connected to disused transport routes  (bodily functions?)
the mysterious character M lurks in the background and pulls the strings of a criminal network (Mycroft, Moriarty, Mary, Moran, Magnusson, Molly, Mummy, ME//Sherlock himself? His own worst enemy?)
people behind masks .... a veiled attacker with a sword, a masked escapist who needs to break free in time before he gets shot, a masked attacker from behind … all of them from the ‘East’
a dangerous ‘dragon’ also from the East (because every ‘dragon slayer’ needs his dragon?)
a sister from the East who knows how to decipher the code
key-locations:  high up in the sky (bank//Bart’s roof//CAM Tower) and underground (dragon den black tramway//Sumatra Station//London Aquarium)
things sitting behind glass that should be out in the open and used
the art of tea making
being observed and the sign of the eye (X X)
assassins pretending to kill Sherlock but don't do it because they want something from him
the period of …  ‘five years ago’
a desired relationship that doesn’t come to pass
John fighting with a ‘machine’ (Sherlock?)
German language (X)
things coming in pairs (X)
secret tattoos
spiderwebs (X)
pouring water, rain, spilled water by Sherlock as well as his attacker
cats (golden lucky cats and lions)
a dog (Chow-Chow) hiding in plain sight
the colour yellow (X X)
William (one of 13 by the end of TAB)
Most likely this list could be continued ….
Tumblr media
THE GREAT GAME
This episode looks very much like a chapter list for the whole story.
The ‘cold’ cases in combination with the new ones become very explosive. As it turns out in the end, every single case is connected to or planned by Jim Moriarty, the master criminal who later calls himself Mr. Sex.
The episode starts with a case in Minsk, the East (the past?) which Sherlock dismisses. Then 221b is hit by a massive explosion from the outside and right after that, Mycroft turns up with an urgent case regarding the missing plans for a very important defense system … called the Bruce-Partington-Plans. Sherlock pretends to dismiss this case too. Instead he puts his ‘best man’ - John - onto it.
5 PIPS - 5 DOUBLE-CASES .... A CHAPTER LIST for 5 SERIES?
The explosion opposite 221b reveals a pink phone (identical to that in ASIP but new) and leads to a series of cold cases, each one announced by a backwards countdown of five Greenwich pips. And each of those cold cases starts with the abduction of a seemingly random person …
a middle-aged woman
a young man
a blind old lady
a child
John Watson
Sherlock has to solve the cold cases in time, in order to prevent the death of the victims who are strapped to vests full of explosive material. Sherlock is eager to play that game, assuming he knows who is behind it.
Tumblr media
The first pip - the first case - Series ????
A pair of shoes, dissappeared twenty years ago, reappears mysteriously in the basement 221C Baker Street (Sherlock’s subconscious?). They lead Sherlock back in time to his first case … the unacknowledged and therefore still unsolved death of Carl Powers, a champion swimmer who had a fit in the water and drowned during a school tournament. During the investigation Sherlock makes the aquaintance of ‘Jim from IT’. Though Sherlock can prove in time that Carl Powers had indeed been murdered, the identity of the murderer stays in the dark.
The bombing victim - a middle-aged woman sitting in a car on a car park -  survives.
The first of the Greenwich pip cases feels suspiciously like the beginning of a story that stays unsolved and is still untold by the end of The Final Problem in Series Four.
Tumblr media
The second pip - the second case - Series Two
Banker Ian MONKford disappears. Only the car he rented a day before his disappearance turns up with a lot of MONKford’s blood on the seat. It doesn’t take long for Sherlock to deduce that the missing man has faked his death, that his wife is in on the plan and that the car hire company JanusCars has helped with the execution of the fraud … including MONKford’s journey to Columbia in South America. Special feature of interest: half of Columbia is dominated by the high summits of the Andes (5775m) and sadly, that country is also one of the largest exporter of cocain worldwide.
The bombing victim - a young man standing on a traffic island at Piccadilly Circus - survives.
The second of the Greewich pip cases has a lot in common with Sherlock’s own fake suicide and the events following The Reichenbach Fall. Fake blood on a ‘borrowed’ body (car). People being in on the plan. Janus-faced Mycroft and his agents providing the means for Sherlock to go undercover … at first apparently in Tibet (according to the following episodes MHR and TEH). Sherlock lives, disguised as a MONK, in a monastery high up in the Himalayan mountains, where he exposes a blond drug smuggler who had infiltrated the monks.
Tumblr media
The third pip - the third case - Series Three
Connie Prince, a media TV star and famous for her ‘make-over’ (cover up) programmes, dies. After a quick investigation, Sherlock knows that she has been murdered by Raoul de Santos, her house boy, who is the lover of Connie’s brother Kenny. After a severe dispute the ‘big’ sister threatened to disiherit the brother, whom she constantly bullied and ridiculed. Raoul de Santos, who had grown accustomed to a certain lifestyle, took revange and poisoned his lover’s  sister. Sherlock solves the case and Raoul de Santos goes to prison while Kenny stays back with Sekhmet, his sister’s cat.
The  bombing victim - a blind, old lady - dies, because she starts to describe the bomber’s soft voice. The presumed gas explosion, caused by a shot at the explosive filled vest the old lady was wearing, claims 12 lives in total.
The third of the Greewich pip cases resurfaces again in Series Three in form of a multilayered story carried out by several character mirrors … vividly indicated by the refelctions on the mirror panes in HLV. Basically this happens: the case doesn’t start but ends with a ‘big one’ being murdered ... Magnusson (’son of the great’), the media mogul who bullies, ridicules and blackmails anyone whom he deems useful for his purposes. Magnusson threatens to expose Mary’s secret, which she fears could cause the break-up of her established relationship with John. But it is Sherlock who decides that a certain lifestyle should be maintained. He takes revange, kills Magnusson and is ready to go to prison/exile while Mary stays back with John.
Tumblr media
The fourth pip - the fourth case - Series Four
The case of Alex Woodbridge, a security man who loved to gaze through big lenses at the stars, before he was suffocated and thrown into the water of the Thames, leads Sherlock to the painting of an old master. Sherlock knows right from the start that it is fake but he still has to prove it. The Golem, a killer who is known for executing people with his big hands, is hired to keep the secret of the fake painting. He tries to stop Sherlock as well, but John comes to his aid. The Golem escapes. Time is quickly running out. In contrast to the privious cases, the bombing victim, a child, is only revealed near the end. But no visuals are given. Just a scared voice on a phone calling for help. No location where the abducted child is held captive either. Instead Sherlock is confronted with a countdown from 10 to 1. He finds the required proof in the very last seconds … the Van Buren Supernova …. a massive explosion that happened not earlier but later than indicated.
Sherlock solves that case and the child survives.
The fourth of the Greenwich pip cases contains several key elements which play also an important role in Serious Four. There is a strong connection to water: ‘When does the path we walk on lock around our feet? When does the road become a river with only one destination?’. Fake identities (masks/spray tan) are revealed. A serial killer appears, who prefers to suffocate people with his bare hands. Scared children are begging for help, either high up in the sky on a falling plane or deep down in the ground in a flooding well. Old family paintings and modern family pictures are moved into focus. There’s a countdown from 10 to1. A massive explosion, caused by the so called ‘patience (passions) grenade’, hits 221b. One could describe that explosion as ‘postponed’ because it could have happened earlier in the story … at the pool where little Carl died …. at Guy Fawkes Night under the parliament … but it happens later.
Tumblr media
The fifth pip - the fifth case - Series Five?
The fifth case is a hidden one. There is no Greenwich pip for it. The case starts before all the other cases, right after 221b is hit by the explosion across the street … where the canonical ‘empty house’ is located. It is Mycroft who brings that case to Baker Street. Plans for a very important defence system have gone missing … the Bruce Partington plans. It’s the case Sherlock pretends to dismiss. He lets Mycroft believe that he has put John onto it. He doesn’t tell John anything either. Sherlock keeps completely silent about that one and tries to keep everyone in the dark. But it seems that Sherlock is very well aware of the importance of this case …. the case of the stolen DEFENCE SYSTEM plans.
In contrast to the previous four Greenwich pip cases, which are each treated in one block, the individual parts of the Bruce Partington case are embedded in the others. After Mycroft has delivered the basis informations, three visual scenes are presented, each one accompanied by the sounds of a barking dog:
1 - While Sherlock investigates Carl Powers’ shoes, John visits Mycroft to get more details about the Bruce Partington case. The visuals appear in form of a flashback. That flashback is followed by Sherlock who still investigates the shoes and now discovers the poison involved in the murder of Carl Powers.
2 - A text message from Mycroft reaches John right after he has completed his investigations at Woodbridge’s flat. At the same time Sherlock turns up at the Hickman Gallery and talks to Mrs. Wenceslas. John visits Westie’s and Lucy’s flat to gain more informations regarding the missing plans. When he comes back to Baker Street, Sherlock already waits for him and they set out to the Vauxhall Arches, where they will meet the Golem.
3 - Right after Sherlock has solved the Van Buren Supernova case, John receives another impatient text message from Mycroft but only after wrapping the Van Buren case in Scotland Yard, he is able to investigate the railway tracks where Westie was found dead. Sherlock joins him there and though he admitts that he hadn’t dismissed his brother’s case at all, he doesn’t reveal anything else. Together they visit Joe Harrison’s flat and Sherlock confronts the man with his investigations. A flashback accompanies Joe’s confession and reveals what really happened to Westie and the Bruce Partington plans.
Now Sherlock has the missing plans in his hands. Yet, he doesn’t reveal the true meaning of the case. Instead he misleads John even more by claiming that his brother’s case had been nothing but a ‘distraction of the game’ and that the last Greenwich pip is still missing.
SHERLOCK: Distraction over, the game continues. JOHN: Well, maybe that’s over, too. We’ve heard nothing from the bomber. SHERLOCK: Five pips, remember, John? It’s a countdown. We’ve only had four.
And when John asks him about the whereabouts of the plans, Sherlock tells him another downright lie and pretends that he has returned the plans into his brothers hands.
JOHN: Have you given Mycroft the memory stick yet? SHERLOCK: Yep. He was over the moon. Threatened me with a knighthood – again.
But the very moment John has left the flat, Sherlock contacts the mysterious bomber and arranges a secret meeting to hand over the Bruce Partington plans … interestingly at the same pool where once little Carl Powers died. This means that Sherlock associates the plans of the DEFENSE SYSTEM not only with the outstanding fifth pip but also with the first pip of ‘the great game’. And his first words at the pool confirm, that it’s not his brother’s case which Sherlock considers to be the ‘distraction’ but the other cases of the ‘game’.
SHERLOCK: Brought you a little getting-to-know-you present. Oh, that’s what it’s all been for, hasn’t it? All your little puzzles; making me dance – all to distract me from this.
Despite Sherlock’s conviction that he knows what’s going on, a completely unexpected surprise awaits him at the pool. The bomber finally reveals himself as criminal mastermind Jim Moriarty (the former Jim from IT). He admits that he is the one responsible for Carl’s death twenty years ago as well as being the creative mind behind the ‘great game’. Shockingly, the fifth bombing victim turns out to be John.
Tumblr media
There is no solution for the fifth case in The Great Game. The episode ends on an explosive cliffhanger. A stand-off between consulting detective and consulting criminal. No one dies because Irene Adler - Mrs. Sex - enters the stage per phone call, before Sherlock can bring himself to shoot the bomb vest … and kill them all.
Tumblr media
The most interesting features of the FIFTH CASE …. especially with regards to a possible FIFTH SERIES of Sherlock BBC
There is no Greenwich pip for the fifth case:
maybe because the last case is actually also the first case?
the end runs a full circle back to the beginning?
Two main characters are dramatically moved into focus:
Dr. John Watson - good old Dr. Watson, the one fixed point in a changing age
Jim Moriarty - the changable criminal mastermind who calls himself Reichenbach … Rich Brook
The fifth case connects two different cases:
an old one (the twenty years old murder of Carl Powers)
a modern one (the missing Bruce-Partington Plans - the very important DEFENSE SYSTEM of the government)
The fifth case also combines two ‘first cases’:
the missing shoes of Carl Powers, found in 221c Baker Street, are marked with the first of the Greenwich pips. Additional this case is called ‘Sherlock’s first case’, the case where he began.
Mycroft’s request/order to retrieve the missing Bruce-Partington Plans, is the first case for Sherlock after the explosion opposite 221 Baker Street
Both cases ultimately end(ed) in the water of the same pool
Carl Powers
Bruce-Partington Plans
Both cases are initiated by Jim Moriarty … Rich Brook … Reichenbach
Tumblr media
All in all ... the case of the missing DEFENSE SYSTEM is defined by absolute secrecy. Sherlock lies, conceals, deflects and hides his intentions and actions from the moment the case is presented to him. He tells no one, confides in no one … not even John.
Sherlock assumes he knows … and yet, what a massive rug pull is waiting for him at the pool ….
Tumblr media
Deep waters, Sherlock, all your life. In all your dreams. Deep waters.

Can Steam Deck Succeed Where the PlayStation Vita Failed?
https://ift.tt/3BoodXS
While it’s understandable that Valve’s Steam Deck is already drawing comparisons to the Nintendo Switch, the Steam Deck’s closest (and most important) comparison in the history of video game handhelds has to be the ill-fated PlayStation Vita.
Released in Japan in December 2011 as the follow-up to the PSP, the PlayStation Vita was positioned to be the direct challenger to the Nintendo 3DS (which debuted earlier that year). In retrospect, though, it feels more accurate to say that the PS Vita was designed to compete with the Nintendo DS. After all, Nintendo was still trying to sell people on the 3DS’ core gimmick during the course of its slow rollout (and would continue to struggle to do so during the handheld’s run), whereas the DS was still seen by many as the definitive handheld gaming device on the market and arguably the best handheld ever made.
On paper, the PlayStation Vita had everything it needed to defeat the DS and 3DS. It was significantly more powerful than either handheld, it featured an OLED screen (sound familiar?), it was designed to address most of the PSP’s biggest issues, and, most importantly, it was supported by the PlayStation team and their legions of fans, developers, and veteran engineers. The Vita had absolutely everything going for it and should have been the handheld that finally dethroned Nintendo or at least loosened their iron grip on the handheld gaming industry.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Yet, when the smoke cleared, the 3DS outsold the PS Vita by about 59 million units. Neither handheld came close to matching the Nintendo DS’ astonishing sales records. From a sheer sales perspective, the PS Vita was a failure. Some Sony executives tried to argue the handheld was ultimately doomed by the sudden rise of the mobile gaming market, but the truth of the matter is that most of the Vita’s biggest problems could have been addressed by the PlayStation team.
“Price” is somewhere near the top of any list of the PS Vita’s most preventable problems. While the PS Vita matched the 3DS’ launch price, it was significantly more expensive than the Nintendo DS at that time and was only about $50 cheaper than a PS3 or Xbox 360. It certainly didn’t help that the Vita’s memory cards were also quite expensive and that Sony made few official efforts to address the Vita’s price over the course of the handheld console’s lifespan.
Actually, in retrospect, that was the Vita’s biggest problem. One of the handheld’s best attributes should have been PlayStation’s support, but the fact of the matter is that the PlayStation team pretty much left the handheld to die just a couple of years into its run. They half-assed its backward compatibility support, they struggled to get first-party exclusives out the door with any sense of urgency, they never really figured out how to make the console’s PS4 remote play capabilities appealing, and they didn’t bother to release the kind of mid-cycle hardware upgrades that rescued the 3DS from its own terrible start.
The PlayStation Vita was supposed to be a way to be a premium console you could take with you, but within a couple of years, it essentially became a niche device praised by those who loved its collection of indie titles, design, Japanese exclusive games, and general capabilities but was ignored by pretty much everybody else. Sony greatly overestimated the global desire for a more powerful handheld, and they immediately paid a price for their mistake that they clearly weren’t prepared to deal with.
While every video game device ultimately forges its own legacy in terms of both the mass market and in the hearts and minds of individuals everywhere, it’s nearly impossible to talk about the PlayStation Vita and not immediately spot the frightening ways that failed handheld feels like the unfortunate predecessor to the Steam Deck.

Nintendo Switch OLED Reveal is Dividing Fans
By Matthew Byrd
Just as the PS Vita tried to challenge more established Nintendo devices, the Steam Deck is clearly building off the incredible success of the Nintendo Switch (even if both devices are fundamentally going for different things). Much like the PS Vita, the Steam Deck hopes to separate itself through its hardware capabilities, an improved screen, and a built-in library of titles. Sadly, the Steam Deck is also potentially burdened with a higher (perhaps too high) price point, late release date relative to its competition, and the “support” of a company that has historically struggled to support its hardware experiments to the degree that they need to be supported.
If you take a look at the history of companies that have tried to challenge Nintendo’s handheld (or handheld adjacent) hardware with more powerful and more expensive alternatives, you’ll find a tragic tale starring a variety of notable failures. The Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear, PS Vita, and more all tried to topple Nintendo by seemingly doing the things Nintendo wasn’t, and each failed to offer a widely compelling alternative to the arguably more important things that Nintendo chose to emphasize.
That’s the oddest thing about making PS Vita and Steam Deck comparisons. While the line on the Vita has always been that it was a handheld “ahead of its time,” that doesn’t mean that the Steam Deck will somehow be the handheld of its time. We still live in an age where the handheld scene is dominated by mobile games and a Nintendo console that is clearly doing quite well. People online say they want a “Switch Pro,” but when you look at the success of the Nintendo Switch, the hype for the Switch OLED, and the entire history of handheld gaming, you wonder whether or not a more powerful handheld gaming device will ever be more than a premium item meant for a relatively small number of gamers.
Yet, there are other ways that the Steam Deck already emphasizes some of the things that eventually made the PlayStation Vita a beloved piece of handheld hardware with a cult fanbase.
Just as the PS Vita let players access a decent library of classic titles (even if that feature always needed work), the Steam Deck lets you play any classic PC game available via Steam (and even more outlets). The PS Vita benefited from the support of elite Japanese studios, and the PC gaming scene has been gaining the support of many of those same studios in recent years. The PS Vita was beloved for its power, options, and accessibility, and Steam Deck is seemingly built on emphasizing all of those features.
If Valve wants the Steam Deck to succeed where the PS Vita failed, they need to be willing to acknowledge whatever failures they may incur along the way and immediately address them. They also need to find a way to sell the Steam Deck to those gamers who helped turn the Switch into a “mainstream” hit as well as those who are still saving their money for a PS5, Xbox Series X, or just a new GPU. If they can find a way to do all of that, they may just achieve something that nobody else before them has quite been able to.
Then again, maybe that’s not the plan at all. Maybe Valve isn’t targeting gamers everywhere but rather those same gamers who passionately defend and support the PS Vita to this day for being the one device that gave them the things that nobody else in the industry bothered to give them at that time. It might not sound like the best business strategy, but when you’ve got what we like to call “Steam money,” making the best handheld possible for a smaller group of gamers who will grow to truly love it may not be a bad way to go.

Welcome New Citizen - A brief introduction to the Cityverse
WELCOME NEW CITIZEN!
Congratulations and welcome to your new home!
Welcome to The City, new citizen! This is an automated message from the City Government, here to help you get started on your new life here!
Note: This message has been automatically translated to your native language
Now, you may have significant memory gaps, as well as confusion. This is all perfectly normal! Most new citizens experience this, and is no cause for distraught. The medical technician, who gave you the datapad you’re reading this on, is here to help and watch over you. The fine medical staff of this City Immigration and Welcome center are keeping a close eye on you, and will make sure you are comfortable. In time your discomfort will pass, and you're sure to settle into your new life here in The City.
Now, let’s go over some of the basics. How you got here, Government, and the various species you may encounter here.
Section I:
How you got here
This is a tricky bit. Most citizens here are what’s locally known as “Wash Ups”. Like a piece of driftwood washed up on the shore of a beach, you likely just suddenly wound up here. You simply “washed ashore” into The City, and brought to this center. No one is sure why people show up here, or why they have little to no memory of their past life, outside of their identity. No memory of family or loved ones, nor if they even had those. But this is not something to worry about. The City Government is here for you in this hard time, and will help you get settled into your new life. You’ll soon make new friends and new loved ones, and discover new things you’ve never even imagined!
Part of this immigration process is the installation of a Citizen Identification Biochip. This tiny chip is perfectly safe and harmless, and will help ID you as a registered citizen. It will allow you to shop, go out to eat, and do whatever you want in The City. This Biochip also automatically translates audio and visual information to a form you can understand. This means you’ll hear all languages as your native tongue, as well as see other citizens use proper mouth movements and body language based on your personal language and culture. This is to insure there are a minimal of cultural taboo breakings, and to help keep citizens safe, happy, and comfortable. You’ll also see all signs translated into your native tongue, for ease of understanding.
Section II:
The City and City Government
We’ll try to keep this section brief, as you’ll learn more about our grand government as time goes on.
2.A - The Mayor and City Council
Our current mayor is Mayor Ezekiel, a Draconian of 421 years of age (Please Note:, this has been automatically converted to a timeframe you will understand, and does not represent what the subject considers to be their age. Note: you will not receive this alert again, unless you specifically request it). He has been mayor for the past 27 years, being re-elected 5 times (the standard term length is 5 years). There is no current term limit for mayors, but no Mayor has chosen to remain in office past 10 terms. Most past mayors have been Draconian.
The City Council currently has 34 members, each representing a single species, or a group of races and/or cultures. However, not all races and cultures are represented, due to lack of interest or too few numbers. These councillors are elected every 5 years, through an elaborate and complicated election process. If you wish to know more, head to your local Library/Information Center to learn more!
2.B - CIPS- City Intelligence and Protection Service
The CIPS is the main defensive, protective, and intelligence gathering force for The City. The CIPS is headed by Nicholi Chernyshevsky, who rose through the ranks of the Intelligence branch.
The CIPS is made of 2 primary branches, Intelligence and Protection. Intelligence deal with any potential non-standard (for instance terrorism threats, or any new citizens that show worrying and threatening behavior), or even any possible external threats from other Worlds/Realities.
Protection has 2 sub-branches. District Security and the City Protective Service.
District Security is the hyper-local security force. They enforce local and district laws, investigate crimes (that don’t affect beyond the local district), and assist in local emergencies. The DS is made of policing units, medical/psychological specialists, and emergency management drones (these non-sentient drones can fight fires, deal with rubble, help find victims, or whatever else is needed).
The City Protection Service is the City’s military organization, with its own forces for different aspects (sea, land, air, special forces, etc). The most elite of these forces are The Paladins. They’re the most elite force of the City, dealing with threats no other City Government force could deal with. The service was formerly led by General Korin, a Draconian of great esteem to many, however they’re now in the process of assigning a new General to oversee and lead them after the death of the General..
2.C - Places of Interest
The City is vast, and therefore has a great deal to offer in terms of food, entertainment, nightlife, and anything else one may seek. There are restaurants for the cuisine of various races and cultures. Several theaters for movies and plays from all sorts of cultures, appealing to various cultures. We have various clubs, bars, and other amenities all over the city. The biggest nightlife area is in the Capitol District, not far from the Capitol Building and the Capitol District Waterfront.
Some notable locations that may interest you:
Capitol Building - The Heart of The City, where the Mayor and City Council work, as well as the Mayoral residence.
Duke’s Bar & Grill - Former Mayor Duke’s bar, run with the help of head cook Jermiah. Located across the Waterfront from the Capitol Building. Provides a good night sight of the Capitol.
Razor Of Love - The most popular nightclub in the Capitol District. Packed full most nights, though special VIPs can always get in.
Section III
Races and Species
There are countless races and species living in The City. It would be near impossible to list all of them here, so we will list a few of the most populous races living here, as well as some notable individuals.
Note: Many names may sound strangely similar to names in your culture. This is due to the Biochip translating their names to the closest equivalent in your language. As well, they will hear you call them by their proper name (again due to the Biochip translation function).
Draconians:
While not the most prolific race, they are among the most respected and oldest races here. Most significant city posts and positions, including the Mayorship, have been held by Draconians for most of the known history of The City. Their race can seemingly be traced back even to the beginnings of The City.
But don’t let all this deceive you, as they are as diverse a race as any other. One of our most notable citizens (and former Mayor), John “Duke” Logan, now owns and runs a small bar, and gives off a congenial and welcoming presence. In contrast, Mayor Ezekial is much more serious, focusing on his work and the needs of The City first. He’s been described as an extremely serious man, focused on his duty as Mayor.
So don't be nervous if you encounter a Draconian (if you haven't already), as they’re just like anyone else!
Chimerians:
The second most significant race here in The City, and seemingly been here almost as long at the Draconians. They’re a vibrant and proud people, eager to help a friend or scorn an enemy. They’ve often been described as not being exactly subtle, either.
Chimerians are unique as they’re truly a race of people, made up of several different and unique species and subspecies. They don’t go much into their genetic and pre-City cultural history, if any of them even know it.They have many stories for their origins, and none have been proven (nor disproven). Many humans have said they appear to be like animals of their worlds, but bipedal and sentient. “Anthropomorphic” in one of their more populous tongues.
Some notable Chimerians are:
Nicholi “Nick” Chernyshevsky, head of the City Intelligence and Protection Service (CIPS). He is the first Chimerian to hold this position, an honor he takes close to heart. A hard worker, CIPS has entered a golden age of productivity under his guidance.
Joseph and Dyers, the co-owners of the Razor Of Love, which is one of the most popular clubs in The City. Their club is situated in the heart of the Capitol District, and is often packed. Better get there early, if you want to get in! (Note: attached to this document is a pass to get in free for one night, courtesy of the owners.).
Jeremiah, co-owner and head cook of Duke’s Bar and Grill. Formerly the Lieutenant Mayor under Duke’s administration, they decided to leave politics and open a place where people could come to escape their woes. Jer’s cooking is famous in the Capitol district, as he’s learned to cook many various styles of foods from various cultures, all while adding his own flair.
Chimerians can come across very boisterous and emotional, and often wind up being one’s best friend or worst enemy! They’re a very proud people, and the bonds they form remain strong.
Synthetic and Cybernetic races:
The City is full of non-organic citizens, all deserving and having full rights as any other law-abiding citizen. They are in all forms, shapes, and sizes. Some identity as Synths, some as robotic or cybernetic, and many as other various terms. Some have physical bodies, and some have no physical form at all! All are as equal as any other citizen. Do note, for reasons unknown even synthetic and cybernetic beings have amnesia when they first arrive here.
Some notable individuals include:
Vec, a professor of medicine and head of universal species medicine at the Capital District University. They have maintained the position for over 50 years, ever increasing their medical knowledge as new races and species join our great City. Be the patient organic, synthetic, cybernetic, or any other form of life, Vec treats them all the same.
Nomad, bouncer and head of security at Duke’s Bar, and formerly held the position at the Razor Of Love. His rough and menacing appearance helps with this, despite him having a generally gentle nature. However, he’s not a pushover, and has known to get quite rough with those who make a pain of themselves.
Aves, a brilliant scientist and inventor, who’s helped create many of the technologies used in The City. The Biochip is of their design, a breakthrough that works far superior to previous forms of instant or near instant translation.
Other Races:
There are so many other races you’ll encounter in The City. For some, there are many members of them living here as citizens. Others, just a few. A few you may encounter are Humans, Orcs, Elves, various non-physical/corporeal beings (including so called “ghosts”, AIs, energy beings, etc), and so many more!
If you have questions or curiosities about any race, culture, or belief system, simply visit your local Information Center, or look up a brief summary via your Personal Digital Assistant.
Section IV
Wrap Up
We hope this short guide has helped begin your acclimation to your new life in The City! An Immigration Guidance Counselor (IGC) will be with you soon, to help you start this new chapter in your life! If you have any other questions, please ask your IGC, or look up needed information on your PDA!

GENSOKYO.
Heads up before we get started, while a lot of what is in this post is taken from canon directly, it is heavily mixed with other non canon sources (mostly folklore along with other things) and as such is more headcanon based than anything. The important thing to note though is that everything detailed in this post is very much canon to this blog. The details of how gensokyo functions as written below will be how I treat the realm when doing interaction on here. People are free to follow it or not as they see fit, but this is just a heads up that is is how my blogcanon will function when it comes to this topic. Anyway, with that out of the way let's get into it.
A QUICK OVERVIEW.
Gensokyo is a landlocked territory located in Japan, a haunted realm of fantasy which only exists to humans through things like myths and legends. Within it exists things which were forgotten, or thought to not exist at all. That which no longer exists, that hold things which have become ‘useless’ to the modern world. A LAND OF LEGEND, MYTH, AND ILLUSION.
However, it’s only that, legend, myth, illusion. It is little more than a fairy tale, a land not actually existing. At least to us humans, and our rational minds. The reality of Gensokyo’s true nature is that it is a realm of ‘THAT WHICH HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN’, housing creatures and places which no longer exist in reality. Or things that we just plain debunk as imaginary.
It is a territory which exists in parallel to our own world, and will continue to exist as long as humanity as we know it does.
The Land of Fantasy, the Land of Illusion, the Paradise for Human and Youkai alike, Gensokyo.
THE GREAT BARRIER.
Gensokyo only exists as it does today due to the existence of The Great Hakurei Barrier, a magical boundary constructed by particularly powerful sages hundreds of years ago. The project was spearheaded by one Yukari Yakumo, who used her abilities over boundaries to help construct The Barrier into what it is now.
The Great Barrier, for lack of better words, acts as a boundary of common sense. It separates the concepts of ‘reality’ and ‘fantasy’ allowing Gensokyo and all of its supernatural residents to exist even as the humans of the world outside the barrier forget about them more and more.
Gensokyo, as it is now, has essentially become a refuge for the supernatural, and exists in a weird bubble of 'disbelief'. If humans of the modern age don't believe something exists anymore, it will eventually appear in Gensokyo.
This barrier however, is not perfect. It is prone to fluctuations which allow beings and objects to cross if they are caught off guard, and too can it break if not carefully maintained and managed. It is a powerful thing, but too is it a fickle one, much like everything else in this realm.
Luckily, there are more than enough measures put in place for the exact purpose of keeping the barrier safe. (Most notably, this is the main role of the Hakurei Shrine Maidens, and of course of Yukari Yakumo herself.)
GENSOKYO’S TIME LAG
Because of the nature of the realm to only take in that which has been forgotten, there is a very clear ‘time delay’ which exists in the realm. Gensokyo was cut off from the rest of the world in the year 1885, and has relatively remained with the same level of technology now as it did then.
However, as the Outside World advanced and we forgot more and more about the objects of our past, more ‘modern’ technological marvels have begun to appear in within Gensokyo boundaries.
The ‘time lag’ of the realm will always be very much there, however, no matter how ‘modern’ Gensokyo may or may not become. Of course, it is near impossible to tell exactly how much of a delay exists even now or how much of a clear divide in time there is between the two realms. It is not as simple as saying ‘Gensokyo is in year X while the Outside World is in year Y’ as the key factor to determining what ends up in Gensokyo in the first place is what is forgotten in the world outside it.
What can be said is that in years past this ‘time lag’ was significantly slower. It very much HAS speed up in recent years, of that there is no denying. Modern gaming devices like game boys and the nintendo ds along with other objects like iphones and tablets have recently become much more frequently found in Gensokyo for example (not that any of them work mind you, but they have fallen in nonetheless) along with magazines detailing events from more relatively modern history, dating anywhere from the late 1980s to the early 2000s.
The explanation for this is simple enough: the Outside World has simply forgotten about these objects and events at a much faster pace than in the past due to how quickly information in the modern age now spreads. In a post-internet world information is able to spread from person to person much more quickly, new things which take up the forefront of everyone's collective conscious spread like wildfire in a way that could never be achieved before. In turn, this means the rate at which the modern age collectively forgets about its past has also speed up.
For the most part this ‘speed up’ doesn't particularly affect any of Gensokyo residents though, and seeing as modern technology as a whole does not naturally function within Gensokyo, it is unlikely the things which fall into the realm will ever be seen as anything more than ‘things one can use as blunt weaponry’ to anyone any time soon.
GENSOKYO AS A FAIRY REALM.
In construct, the Land of Fantasy is not to fundamentally different from how a traditional fairy realm functions in most beliefs. The two are so similar in fact it wouldn’t be incorrect to refer to the two as almost being almost one in the same. Much like things do not age in a fairy realm proper, things within Genoksyo age at a much slower pace when compared to the Outside World.
Not that any of the residents within the realm would notice this at all, as this is really only apparently when comparing the time flow for the Outside World to that of Gensokyo. For example, If one were to take a human from Gensokyo and a human from the Outside World and watch them age at the same time, the human within Gensokyo would effectively age ‘slower’ than the human of the Outside World due to how time affects both of them relatively in their particular realms.
It does not feel like time is slower in Gensokyo, nor does it feel it is faster in the Outside World, time just simply is.
It should also be noted this is STRICTLY an effect of the REALM ITSELF and not something unique to the humans within it. If a human from Gensokyo where to get trapped Outside the Barrier, they would age at the same pace as any other person would, and the same would be said of a human who comes in from the Outside world into Gensokyo.
Simply put, time does not ‘flow properly’ in Gensokyo, solely to its fantastical nature. Basically meaning that theoretically, if a normal human where to jump in and out of Gensokyo somewhat frequently, eventually it would pass that the human from the outside realm was in their 30s while the Gensokyo residents they met (human or otherwise) barely changed at all.
There are known exceptions to this effect however, but they are very much EXCEPTIONS. Humans like Maribel Hearn with the ability to jump between boundaries should only be viewed as existing within their own relative time, while humans which visit in dreams (such as Sumirenko Usami) are able to visit in relative real time due to how Gensokyo’s fantastical nature works alongside dreams.
SPIRITING AWAY.
Of course, not all that falls into this realm is there by choice or by virtue of it being forgotten. When it comes to most humans which wander into the realm they are their by being spirited away by an outside force.
This source can vary, anything from being in the wrong place at the wrong time during one of the barriers fluctuations, or brought in by a youkai such as Yukari.
The Outsiders who enter this realm are in immediate danger, they are free game as far as the youkai of this land are concerned. Humans of the Outside world to tend to lack the sort of survival skills which would keep them alive in a realm full of monsters. While many eventually seem to be quite in a panic when they fully realise they do not quite recall where they are (which is to be expected) most do not know to steer clear of the youkai residents, yet will do things like run away from a ghost (despite ghosts being much more harmless to humans)
This is all due to simple lack of knowledge, of course. Outsiders of this nature, if not eaten, are given the option of returning home which most gladly take.
For those who do not and seek to stay within the realm, they tend to hit a wave of popularity for a while with the other humans within Gensokyo’s village for a while. Outsiders of this nature are rare to affect the realm to a large scale however, as while they may be from the Outside World and hold knowledge about Outside World devices and trends, they know little of the theory and construction of them. (There are no rocket scientists falling into Gensokyo, in other words.)
GENSOKYO’S DREAM LIKE NATURE.
Gensokyo when entered from the Outside World at first feels much as if one has entered a dream. Things do not quite feel real at first, everything almost has a dream like haze to it. This same ‘dream like effect’ can also lead to any sense of time one previously had to become completely blurred. An hour spent in the realm may feel like days or it may feel like mere minutes, it's hard to tell for most average humans until they have fully adjusted to the setting as it were. And if one manages to survive the realm long enough to return where they came, no matter how ‘real’ the experience was while in the realm or how long they remained there, it would feel as little more than a dream too once left.
A dream which both at once feels like it happened in an instant yet not at all. A week spent in a land of fantasy which once left felt like mere hours but in truth could be upwards to a month in time.
Time isn't to be trusted in a dream after all, and Gensokyo, fairy realm nature and all, it much like one to any outsider.
The same would happen the other way too of course. A human from Gensokyo getting drawn out of the realm and into reality would likely feel the same sort of ‘dream like haze’ to their surroundings at first. At least until they adjusted.
Though, regardless, it is likely for the best that those which belong in reality and those which belong in fantasy stay in place.
CONCLUSION.
Gensokyo is a land in which one can’t let something such as common sense guide them. It is a fantastical realm, one which does not truly exist, and as such can not be truly understood by logic or from a mind which refuses to open itself up to the spiritual. A land of nonsense where the mundane can be extraordinary and the extraordinary mundane. Truly there is else no place quite like this paradise.

How to use CDB Oil
CBD OIL
For more than 10 years now, many people have considered CBD oil beneficial for pain and anxiety. In addition, following the complete legalization of industrial hemp and the passage of the farm bill in the United States in 2018, CBD is gaining popularity as an alternative and an effective remedy for pain, depression, anxiety, and other conditions. Up to date, research is still at the preliminary stages to find out whether cannabis oil and other marijuana products are as viable as people claim- most people who have used the products report an overall decrease in symptoms associated with pain and anxiety.
What is CBD oil?
This article will discuss what CBD oils is, how to use the oil, how it works to alleviate pain and anxiety as well as the common side effects.
CBD or Cannabidiol is a chemical compound present in the cannabis plant; it is non-intoxicating and has no exhilarating effects common with THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. However, some products advertised as CBD oil may contain amounts of THC.
CBD oil is simply a mixture of CBD, a carrier oil, and other active compounds. The products are available in quite a number of forms like tinctures, soft gel capsules, or under-the-tongue sprays. The concentration of CBD varies with different formulations. Some types of the oil can be directly applied to the skin in the form of salves and creams.
CBD oil may be essential in fixing various health conditions since it is believed that the compound CBD attaches itself to receptors present in the endocannabinoid system in the body; the complex biological system maintains some aspects of your health. The latest research indicates endocannabinoids have a major role in controlling functions like mood, sleep, memory, and other metabolic processes like energy balance.
How to use CBD oil
Smoking cannabis is not similar to using CBD oil. Different people prefer using CBD oil in numerous ways to deal with several symptoms but it is vital to follow instructions. The oil can be used in many ways; for example, they can be mixed with some drinks and other foods or taken drop wise with a dropper or a pipette. As mentioned at the onset, you can massage the oil into the skin or place a small amount under the tongue.
The oil is used to help treat chronic pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, sleep disorders, and other related conditions.
CBD oil helps with acne treatment; a condition partially caused by overworked and inflamed sebaceous glands in the skin. Research conducted in 2014 was able to establish that the oil helps to reduce the formation of sebum, which causes acne because of the anti-inflammatory effects it has on the body. Overproduction of the oily substance, sebum can likely cause acne. In the near future, CBD oil may effectively treat acne vulgaris, which is the most typical type of acne.
Some scientists have discovered that CBD may help to combat cancer. It greatly helps to prevent the spread of cancer and again researchers have observed that the compound will inhibit the growth of cancer cells and advance their destruction. Researchers further discovered the low levels of toxicity of CBD. More research is underway to uncover its potential as a complement to other standard cancer treatments.
According to some encouraging findings, CBD may also help people to quit smoking. A study published in the article Addictive behaviors discovered that the smokers who frequently used inhalers with CBD actually smoked less cigarettes than what they were used to without further cravings for nicotine. The same review in Neurotherapeutics also added that CBD might be a possible treatment for many people dealing with opioid addiction disorders. In addition, researchers noted that CBD lowered quite a number of symptoms that result from substance use disorders. They include insomnia, anxiety, pain, and mood-related symptoms. More research needs to be conducted to be sure that CBD can help to prevent and reduce withdrawal symptoms.
In the treatment of epilepsy, the FDA in 2018 approved the use of CBD as therapy for LGS and DS characterized by epileptic seizures; Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome are difficult to manage with other types of medication. The FDA recommended the prescriptions of Epidiolex (CBD) for only children above 2 years and adults.
CBD oil for different types of pain
The medical society began to study CBD just recently but most people have used it traditionally for more than hundreds of years to treat many types of pain. Currently, CBD oil is used to relieve pain like arthritis pain, multiple sclerosis, and chronic pain.
CBD oil is widely known for treating arthritis pain; a study sought to incorporate an animal model to determine whether CBD could really help those with arthritis manage their pain. Researchers used a topical gel with CBD on the rats with arthritis for some days. After four days, there was a notable decrease in signs of pain and inflammation, without further side effects. More studies are underway to confirm the findings but in the meantime, using CBD oil for arthritis has proven to be effective in relieving pain.
Multiple sclerosis is another condition that causes constant pain to those affected. It is an autoimmune disease, which affects the whole body through the brain and the nerves. The most common symptom of MS is muscle spasms that cause great pain. A report discovered reduced levels of spasticity after short-term use of CBD Oil. The results are quite average but several people have noticed reduced symptoms.
General chronic pain can be handled by CBD oil too. Results of collective systematic reviews dealing with dozens of studies and trials show that there is indeed considerable proof that cannabis is a useful remedy for adults suffering from chronic pain. CBD oil is effective in reducing inflammation and pain in affected areas. Researchers were able to conclude that subjects will not develop a tolerance to the effects of CBD; therefore, there will be no need to add the dose continually. CBD oil can offer applicable new treatments for individuals affected by chronic pain.
CBD oil for anxiety
Anxiety is one of the leading behavioral and emotional problems that humanity is currently dealing with. A report from the World Health Organization in 2017 shows that almost 264 million people worldwide are struggling with anxiety. As a result, many healthcare experts and researchers all over the globe are working tirelessly to come up with new ways that will be effective in helping people deal with or manage anxiety and stress.
Generally, anxiety is a condition, which is identified by excessive worry coupled with restlessness; for instance, it will be difficult to speak in public, make decisions, or tolerate criticism. Anxiety reveals itself in different sizes and shapes including agoraphobia, panic disorders, social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Irrespective of the form of anxiety affecting a person, a dose of cannabinol is a viable option because it will assist with getting by with the undesirable systems that come along with the condition.
The first time ever cannabis was used to manage anxiety dates back to 1500 in India. From then onwards, professionals and healthcare experts have put in a lot of time and effort in studying the working of cannabinoids as a likely treatment for various brain conditions and emotional problems like chronic pain, post-traumatic stress, depression, and work-related stress among many others.
According to one report that appeared in the Neurotherapeutics journal of 2015, CBD oil is a possible treatment of anxiety and other disorders associated with it. This is because clinical trials, experimental research, and epidemiological studies have shown that CBD may help with treating generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Some healthcare professionals have turned their attention from anxiolytics (pharmaceutical medications for anxiety) to cannabinoids because such medicines have several displeasing side effects. Medications have always been available for decades thanks to the pharmaceutical industry to supplement therapy and in cases where anxiety is so intense that one cannot look out for themselves or get out of the house.
This shift has caused many experts to discover that cannabidiol is indeed useful for the brain; it reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress and provides pain relief as well.
Therefore, in case you have anxiety but it is extremely difficult to deal with the unwanted side effects of psychiatric medication, it is advisable to try out CBD oil as a great alternative.
Most people are concerned or worried about whether they will get ‘high’ after using CBD oil for treating anxiety. It is totally opposite from THC because it lacks any psychoactive effects on the brain so it will be impossible to get ‘high’ after using CBD oil. Moreover, cannabidiol will interfere with every type of neurotransmitter receptors but the feeling of being ‘high’ originates only with THC; with the absence of THC, there will no feeling of ‘high’. CBD oil and other cannabidiol-based products are found in many countries all over the world including countries that have placed a ban on both recreational and medical marijuana.
CBD oil is not addictive at all, as some people may think. Contrary to marijuana and other related products, the use of CBD oil is not addictive. In 2018, a report published by the World Health organization clearly mentions no public health problems like comorbidities or driving under the influence of drugs cases have been linked with using CBD oil. In fact, a number of people suffering from anxiety will use the oil to sleep better and handle the consistent flow of worry-filled thoughts that come along with the emotional problem; it is a safe treatment for insomnia and anxiety resulting from the post-traumatic stress disorder.
Side effects of CBD oil
The FDA approves CBD oil as an effective treatment for anxiety and other medical conditions but healthcare professionals and experts are not able to establish the correct dosage. Determining the appropriate dosage will depend on a broad array of factors ranging from age, weight and the seriousness of the symptoms. The FDA approves using CBD oil as a supplement but it warns companies not to market the product as a safe and guaranteed option to severe medical conditions.
Since CBD oil is a non-psychoactive and safe compound, you will not need to worry about using it excessively. In case it is used in large quantities, the user will only feel dizzy and nauseous, symptoms that will require you to use small amounts of the oil. In addition, consult the manufacturer or an experienced medical professional about the right use of CBD oil; check the leaflet for additional instructions in case the manufacturer provides for it.
Excessive use of VBD oil may worsen muscle movement and tremors in people with Parkinson’s disease. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is advisable to keep off the oil and stay on the safe side even though there is no sufficient information about using CBD oil during this period.
Some other prominent side effects triggered by the use of CBD oil include dizziness, drowsiness, changes in appetite, dry mouth, weight gain or weight loss, changes in mood, vomiting, and nausea; some have experienced a spike in the levels of liver enzymes responsible for liver damage and inflammation. In general, cannabinoids may cause depression, lethargy, thoughts of suicide, depression, and they may probably cause lung problems.
Changes in appetite and tiredness are only short-term side effects. Nevertheless, most people can tolerate CBD oil well but using CBD oil when taking other medications can affect their effectiveness; that is something to look out for. Concerning the long-term effects of CBD oil on hormones, scientists are still conducting research; over time, their studies will be useful in knowing any other side effects of CBD oil on the body.
It is of utmost importance for anyone looking forward to using CBD oil to first involve the doctors. The doctors will examine the person for any changes and make the necessary adjustments.

MIIKA
Maybe try to take some aspects from his Persona 5 version because that seemed to really work well (if it can still work even without his backstory with Kazu, that remains to be seen)
His talent doesn’t feel like it should be centered around service
Need to find a balance between just how antagonistic he’s supposed to be versus slight sympathy but either way he needs to have his whiny bitch sides of his personality pushed back behind the scenes
There’s no way he hasn’t killed people,ever
He’d probably be a killer, but maybe if he stops being such a whiny bitch with a deathwish, he’ll value his life enough to not.
Maybe it didn’t need to be explicitly stated, but as per Finnish tradition, he is heavily against small talk.
SKULL
Is hyposensitive to touch, leading to her to crave touch (and having a hard time keeping her hands off objects). She is often not aware of being touched or bumped unless it’s more forceful.
When she was younger, would chew on things like pens and erasers a lot. She was also prone to wanting to rough play on the playground, not always very conscious of what others around her wanting, leading to her tackling and wrestling other kids and not really being cognizant of the fact that they felt attacked, not like they were playing. This did not help her socially.
Really likes those squishy toys and has a lot of them laying around in her room/stuffed into her backpack.
A lot of foods taste the same to her, unless if they are extreme in taste. This is why she likes extremely sugary foods and struggles with bland food, which tastes gross to her.
Tends to run more than walk, runs up stairs taking two steps at a time, etc.
She idealises strong protagonists who can be sassy but stoic and also who are heroic. She really wants a group of friends (or “comrades” or “companions”) who she could trust to fight with in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Wearing skimpy clothing is a part of this setup, too. She isn’t against other females but quietly prefers more male friends because she enjoys being a cute girl who likes these kind of games most girls aren’t into, and being the only girl in a group like that. It shouldn’t be exaggerated, but as a result of that, she may be a little lowkey bitchy towards any females who would get near her friend-group, viewing them as threats.
Possibly grew up in South Florida as opposed to Virginia Beach, such as around the Miami area (or she could have lived in both at different points).
Her murder plan would possibly be a little similar to Maizono’s, luring a guy who might be attracted to her somewhere isolated. I don’t know exactly how she’d kill them, but I like the idea that their corpse would be found in a pool, after having been in there for a few hours. Despite appearing like an idiot, it’d be nice if her case was actually pretty tricky to solve. During the trial, she would potentially try to throw the blame onto someone else, claiming something something video games. Once singled out as the culprit, she would start to get a lot more agitated, insisting over and over that it’s impossible that she did it. Towards the end after being cornered, she would start getting crying sprites and more or less be trying to justify her murder, even if only to herself, angrily claiming that that guy (the victim) didn’t actually care about her anyway, so who cares, he was probably just hoping she’d be gullible enough to show him her tits and have no idea what he actually wanted (worded less clunky), that he just thought she was some annoying weird freak like everyone else. She’d say that EVERYONE there just wants to get out of this place, even if she tries to say it’s a fun game, she just wants out, she wants out, she wants to go home, she wants to sleep in her own bed, she wants to see her father again (on that note, would be pretty susceptible to motive videos too). More out of a moment of panic than her actual feelings, she would claim that she wishes they all died, because she knows they all see her as the joke character anyway (paraphased), and basically starts projecting her years of memories of bullying on them. It’d be nice if someone said something nice to her before she died that could help calm her down a bit for her execution, tbh.
Her background suffering socially should really be fleshed out and made more relevant, especially since years of severe bullying would change your character, so just a quick tour of things that happened to her: had her vita smashed, her ds stolen, she was asked out by a guy as a joke and laughed at by a group of people, generally mocked daily, experienced racist jokes and remarks, generally treated like she didn’t exist and excluded/deliberately ignored, and one time someone made a fake social media account with her name (and the icon being an unflattering picture they took without her noticing) and wrote embarrassing things under it and followed a bunch of people in the school so it would get around. (interestingly, she would definitely hold a grudge over these things and hate her bullies rather than forgive them, but would be sympathetic towards a pedophile who kidnapped her... stockholm syndrome-prone or something else?)
Maybe this further explains her extreme loyalty to anyone who’s nice to her, even if they’re a serial killer (she may also have less empathy for non-comrades due to her past, further explaining why she’s so chill with it)
Also likes visual stims, has those little clear wands filled with water and glitter and will play with them a lot whenever she isn’t gaming (she almost always has something in her hand)
Maybe idolises Samantha Maxis from zombies (background lore, some little girl who was killed and now controls the zombies and something revenge)
DAISUKE
He still might have some kind of yakuza ties I just don’t know how
He possibly does a kind of martial art as a personal hobby?
He’d possibly kill, he wouldn’t be motivated by anything on the outside though, so that kind of thing wouldn’t work. He’d be motivated by getting out just so he isn’t, you know, trapped in a killing game only. But he might not be willing to kill out of logic-- it’s not like they know the world is ended, so couldn’t they get in serious trouble with the law? And how can they know the mastermind will actually keep their word and let them go? So basically his skepticism would be what would keep him from going along with things.
ICE HOCKEY
He’d be difficult to date because he’s bad with vulnerable feelings, and despises emotional weakness because it’s nothing something he’s ever really personally felt. So he’d basically suck at comforting a girl, being more likely to tell her it shouldn’t bother her and she should just get over it, with him genuinely thinking he’s handling the situation flawlessly. Because he’s extremely driven and has never really been prone to those negative feelings, he really just doesn’t get it, and that’s why he’d probably work best dating a fellow elite athlete, because he really wouldn’t have patience for a girl who doesn’t have his energy and drive.
If Fuyumi wasn’t in the game, he would have possibly been driven to commit a murder because he’d be very disturbed by the possibility of falling behind as an ice hockey player and would not be able to tolerate just standing around and doing nothing. But since Fuyumi is in the game, he couldn’t have actually done that-- and once she dies, it shows that even without memories of them getting closer, he still valued her memory more than that.
That said, he’s still really driven to get the fuck out of there, and back to the ice rink. So, he’d probably be a character more motivated to find a way out rather than just sitting around and accepting the situation.
He has headphones and the only thing that plays through them is very energetic metal and rock. Loudly.
Likes tonkatsu a lot, and shogayaki. He doesn’t like weak bitch vegetable dishes because he needs MEAT to make him strong on the ice. Well it’s not that he’s literally like that, but it’s true he doesn’t really find vegetable-based dishes to really give him the energy he needs.
Spellings for Shinya could be  心矢 (heart, arrow), 新哉 (new, start),  進弥 (move on, progress) or  伸弥 (extend, progress)
One time maybe he did get tips from Makeup Artist. They got along unexpectedly well, considering.
TSURU
Dissociates fairly often and will just draw a complete work of art in an hour while completely on a different plane of reality. You can get his attention it might just take a little bit.
He was basically suicidal since like, 4 and would try to bang his head against walls and stuff and also wrap cords/wires around his neck and this continued on for a lot of his early childhood then it calmed down, but it was kind of concerning for a bit
In addition to being denied food there could have been some physical abuse at times, so he would get some bruises and if anyone asked he’d brush it off and claim he’s clumsy but if you pay attention he is really not clumsy at all
Like I said, he’s probably borderline but he’s not aware of this and if anyone ever suggested the possibility he would not take it very well or even consider it because he doesn’t have any problems at all
He probably didn’t betray Kaii over a single thing randomly, he probably slowly started to feel like Kaii was going to betray him over the course of weeks or months so it wasn’t quite “oh no they saw my sketchbook”
Is remarkably very high functioning for being borderline, has one major difference against a main stereotype though, which is that he’s possibly aroace (not confirmed though, but either way, is grey-aroace or whatever), so he doesn’t have the whole “in a new relationship constantly that always ends dramatically and painfully” thing going on, but it is worth mentioning that he stockpiles friends like you’d stockpile supplies for the zombie apocalypse. Like he has a lot of backups, rather than talking to a single person too much. It’s kind of like trying to max out a strategy game. Anyway, rather than necessarily embodying the kind of “yandere girl(boy)friend” image that bpd usually gets in media, there’s more of a focus on a weak sense of identity, emotional outbursts, rage than comes and goes at times at random (often followed by emptiness), self-harm and suicide ideation. Also paranoia and at times potentially a weaker grasp over reality (since Maison’s probably not going to have this as much anymore anyway).
(Actually maybe that’s why he’s so resistant to going blind-- or one major reason-- because if he’s basing his entire identity around what he is as an artist, if he loses access to that then literally everything is empty from what he can see to what he feels. So that’s probably too much that couldn’t be brought back from. Similar situation with losing a limb, or at least, arms I guess)
RURI
Sensory issues mostly relate to sound and touch. She’s picky about bedding, unable to tolerate old and bumpy bedding, needing to to be a very particular fabric. Also doesn’t do well with new, stiff clothing, and is also very particular about fabrics here. She doesn’t always dress very well for the weather because she’s more concerned about these details than temperature.
Hates having dirty hands-- isn’t terrified of germs, just really can’t stand the feeling. Is picky about hand wash because if it leaves her hands feeling dry, the feeling is distressing.
It isn’t a constant, but has a habit of walking on her toes.
Isn’t really a fast walker, gets overwhelmed and ends up taking breaks from walking like sitting on a bench for a bit frequently.
Is sensitive to noise, and when combined with a lot of walking/going out/light/heat/stimulation in general, ends up with a severe headache towards the end of the day.
Her favourite food is ginger snaps, and she has a particular brand she buys, with nothing else working. She has a few other foods (including more nutritious ones, fortunately) that she likes, but generally only likes a small number of the same exact foods and isn’t good about eating anything else.
She possibly commissioned Savannah to make her a robotic version of a pet animal from her world (the Snowickle one). It now follows her around and, at a first glance, is very lifelike, until you hold it, or realise that she never buys food for it and that it sometimes needs its batteries recharged.
If I had to write a situation where she was a killer, it would be self-defense gone genuinely wrong, as there’s no chance she would be willing to kill someone, or to risk being a culprit and getting executed. If she did accidentally kill someone under these circumstances, she would freak out very quickly after the fact and try her best to hide the corpse somewhere that would take longer to find. Although she wouldn’t want everyone else to die, she wouldn’t exactly volunteer up her life immediately either. Through the trial, she would act as she normally does, but be lying about details (such as claiming to have already forgotten who died and purposely suggesting things that suggests she forgot obvious details of the case). Her undoing would at least partially involve driving this too excess, acting excessively useless and clueless compared to normal. Once suspected as the culprit, she’d try to deny it, claiming that she couldn’t move a body, or have the strength to even injure someone else, etc, but would eventually admit to it (relatively) calmly for the situation, accepting her fate. She would try to take her execution with an expressionless face, telling herself to the then that perhaps her death on earth will be the portal back to her homeland.
She almost withdrew out of school before going to Hope’s Peak because as her mother told her, there was “no point in her getting a high school education” anyway, and quietly this really bothered/hurt her, but at the time just trusted that it was probably true and that it shouldn’t bother her because of that.
ATTORNEY
Is a female now!
Possibly nationalities: Slovene, British, Japanese, Romanian, French
Might take some traits from Assassin-- not the assassin part but like... whatever else
Probably needs a more compelling backstory or something... something else to stand out

Softube and Weiss team up to Release Two Plugins
Softube and Weiss team up to Release Two Mastering Plugins
Tumblr media
Softube and Weiss are Proud to Announce the Release of DS-1 MK3 Mastering Plugin and  Weiss MM-1
Softube Launches Official Weiss DS1-MK3 Mastering Plug-in
Mastering compression, limiting, and de-essing without compromise. Every mastering engineer’s fondest dream is about to come true.
Gold-Standard
Since its launch in the 1990s the Weiss DS1 has become an absolute gold-standard unit, indispensable in mastering studios around the world despite a premium price tag. Its transparency, unparalleled versatility, and exceptional sound quality make it a must-have, heard (or rather not heard) on pretty much any major record you’d care to mention from the last twenty years. And in that time updates and improvements by Weiss have led to the near-perfection of the DS1-MK3.
And now for the first time ever, it is available as a plug-in from Softube, offering more flexibility than ever in a modern DAW environment, at a fraction of the cost.
What is the Weiss DS1-MK3?
This digital compressor/limiter/de-esser performs tasks no analog unit ever could, across a wider range of settings. World-renowned mastering engineer, Bob Katz, author of Mastering Audio (hailed by Sound on Sound magazine as ‘the definitive work on mastering’), and three times Grammy winner, described the original hardware unit as ‘impeccable’, saying ‘it is the most transparent, refined, flexible, and least “digital- sounding” dynamics processor I have ever used.’
Working in collaboration with Weiss Digital Audio, this latest addition to the already rich and desirable Softube product range has been almost three years in development. Porting the code perfectly, line by line, from the original unit so that the plug-in sounds identical was just one task. Recreating the workflow and characteristic broad and useable functionality that made the Weiss such a legend was another.
Running at 32 bit/192 kHz (an upgrade on even the hardware original) the plug-in opens up the absolute pinnacle of sound quality to everyone. And with two all-new advanced limiter algorithms in addition to the Weiss original, nothing touches this processor for sheer excellence.
Mastering like the masters is open to all for the first time, with all the loudness, clarity, and precision, and none of the drawbacks.
In Short:
• Officially licensed and endorsed by Daniel Weiss himself • Not an emulation, but a line-by-line code port of the original digital hardware • Exactly the same processor as the $10,000 original, at a fraction of the cost • Three processors in one; de-ess, compress, and limit, with the industry standard tool • Processes at resolutions of up to 32 bit/192 kHz for exceptional sound quality • Advanced metering - waveform view • Featuring all new presets from Bob Katz • Truly versatile de-essing. Choose your own filters, adjust frequency, and tailor the process to your needs working in stereo or mid-sides • Digital compressor can operate at speeds no analog unit ever could, and offers you total control. • Two brand-new limiter algorithms included, as well as the Weiss original • Run multiple instances of this legendary unit on the same mix at no extra cost • Nothing sounds as clean, as transparent, as good. That’s why the hardware is in every major mastering studio in the world

Softube and Weiss team up to create ‘Mastering Maximizer’ plug-in
Some brands become synonymous with their fields. They so revolutionise and define their product or process that true experts can’t see beyond them. When it comes to audio mastering, the one-and-only name is Weiss.
Weiss MM-1: Loudness Done Right
Based on the legendary Weiss DS1-MK3, the centerpiece of mastering studios the world over (and also now available as a Softube plug-in), the future of fast and professional mix maximizing is now here - the MM-1 Mastering Maximizer.
Featuring the very same algorithms as the original digital hardware unit, the MM-1 offers five flavours of limiting; Transparent, Loud, Punch, Wide, and De-ess; intelligently progressing as the ‘amount’ knob turns, and blendable with the mix control, to give users precisely the right amount of power over the feel of their masters.
Crucial to this plug-in is that it can’t sound bad - the intelligent processes happening under the hood as the amount knob turns; the filtering, compression, de-essing, and so on; have been carefully designed by highly experienced mastering engineers using the industry standard DS1-MK3 as a foundation.
And there’s no better mastering limiter out there. This product allows users to get their mixes exactly as loud as they want, with exactly the sound they want, without sacrificing dynamics and musicality
In Short: • Simple interface controlling detailed expert mastering processes. • Five ‘flavours’ of limiting available. • Contains the very same technology as the legendary hardware mastering processor, the Weiss MM-1. • Fully licensed and endorsed by Daniel Weiss himself. • Great for maximizing your mix-bus quickly and effectively. • Go as loud as you want; louder than any other product out there; without sacrificing desirable tone and dynamics. • Impossible to get it wrong. Be the master of your own masters
Price: $199 (intro offer $179)

15 Underrated E3 2021 Games Not Enough People Are Talking About
https://ift.tt/3vGBozn
Despite being a somewhat quiet year for the show, E3 2021 was filled with so many new titles and updates to previously announced major projects that it’s hardly a surprise that many smaller games featured during the show ultimately went overlooked and ended up being somewhat underrated.
Yet, this is so much more than a list of games that let us celebrate little studios and individual developers. At a time when Covid-19 production delays threaten to push so many major games into 2022 and beyond, these 15 titles (and so many more) could end up working their way into upcoming game of the year conversations just as they remind us that new ideas aren’t dead: they’ve just gone indie.
From wizards with guns and spiritual Thief sequels to cosmic horror punk RPGs and escape room deck builders, these are the 15 underrated E3 2021 games that not enough people are talking about.
15. Wizard With a Gun
You’re going to see a number of Devolver Digital games on this list, but few E3 titles from any publisher or developer made as good of a first impression as developer Galvanic Games’ Wizard With a Gun.
Described as an “online cooperative sandbox survival game,” Wizard With a Gun looks like a blend of Don’t Starve and Enter the Gungeon. Aside from the incredible name, the thing that stands out most about this game is the ability to combine magic and guns to craft some truly wild weapons. Interestingly, it may actually be possible to push your experiments too far and craft something that will hurt you more than your enemies.
14. Gloomwood
I’m a huge fan of developer New Blood Interactive (probably best known for 2018 horror shooter DUSK), and Gloomwood could just be their best game yet.
Gloomwood is a stealth survival horror game that, in many ways, effectively serves as the Thief sequel fans have been begging for. The game’s Steam demo showcases its tremendous potential, but the title’s E3 2021 extended gameplay preview suggests that the best is yet to come.
13. Replaced
There’s a good chance that you actually saw this game considering that it was featured fairly prominently during Xbox’s E3 2021 show, but it’s pretty much impossible to give this project enough love.
While most people are (understandably) focusing on Replaced’s wonderful pixel art visuals, the few glimpses of action gameplay that we see in the title’s debut trailer suggest that this is going to be so much more than an artist showcase.
12. Bear and Breakfast
Bear and Breakfast was actually quietly revealed last year, but I’m more than happy to use its brief E3 2021 appearance as an excuse to hype up this wonderfully wholesome game with a potentially dark twist.
Bear and Breakfast presents itself as a kind of sim/builder game starring colorful and friendly woodland creatures, but both trailers we’ve seen so far suggest that there’s something darker at play that only reveals itself as you expand your cabin empire and dive deeper into the forest.
11. Harold Halibut
Somewhere between a Wallace and Gromit cartoon and a Wes Anderson movie lies the weird and wonderful Harold Halibut.
This stunningly beautiful project may just win you over with its stop motion visuals alone (which were handcrafted in real life and digitally scanned into the game), but it’s Harold Halibut’s classic adventure gameplay that could prove to be its best feature.
10. Lake
Lake is another one of those games that we actually heard about before E3 2021, but this is one of those projects that just keeps looking better every time we see it.
If you can get past its Hallmark movie premise (a young woman leaves her big city job to return to her small town home and deliver mail), you’ll find that Lake’s large world, branching storylines, and diverse cast of characters may just make it one of the most compelling narrative experiences on the horizon.
9. The Anacrusis
The most logical reason more people weren’t talking about The Anacrusis after Xbox’s E3 2021 show is that the multiplayer co-op FPS was arguably upstaged by two bigger, somewhat similar titles: Back 4 Blood and Redfall.
Were it not for those titles, I suspect that more people would have instantly fallen for this ‘70s sci-fi-inspired shooter with roguelike and dungeon master elements. The Anacrusis promises to offer hours of replayability, which should make it a perfect addition to the Game Pass library.

8. Loot River
I understand if your brain is wired to ignore the mention of another roguelike dungeon crawler, but Loot River has already found some ways to distinguish itself from some considerable competition.
The highlight of this game so far is undoubtedly its level manipulation mechanics which add a compelling puzzle element to what may otherwise be a more standard entry into the genre. Having said that, even as a standard genre entry, Loot River looks like a lot of fun.
7. Atomic Heart
Atomic Heart is another one of those games that weirdly almost suffered from its prominent place in the Xbox E3 2021 showcase as it was flanked by larger titles that garnered most of the attention.
However, nearly every aspect of this game we’ve seen so far is, at the very least, compelling. Atomic Heart’s physics and power-based shooter gameplay looks like a blast, but it’s the game’s alternate 1950s Soviet Union setting and Fallout vibes it gives off that really has us intrigued.
6. Death Trash
Speaking of Fallout, you probably think that The Outer Worlds 2 and Fallout 76 are the E3 2021 games that will come closest to offering a proper new Fallout experience. However, Death Trash may just be the game that realizes the potential of so many of the little things that make that franchise great.
This cosmic horror punk rock action RPG so perfectly captures the spirit of classic games like the original Fallout titles and Shadowrun that it’s hard to look at it and not wonder how it was possibly assembled by a single developer. This labor of love should absolutely be on your wishlist.
5. Sifu
There just aren’t enough martial arts video games in the world. I’ll never understand why that’s the case, but it’s just one of those sad facts of life.
While Sifu impressed us when it debuted during a PlayStation broadcast earlier this year, the game’s E3 2021 gameplay trailer ensured it will stay on our radars. Sifu’s intense melee fights and environmental interactions could just make it the go-to experience for starved martial arts fans everywhere.
4. Demon Throttle
Recent years have gifted us with a number of notable retro action games, and Demon Throttle looks more than ready to join the ranks of exceptional experiences like Shovel Knight and The Messenger.
This top-down co-op shooter is currently garnering attention for its physical-only release strategy, but it’s the game’s chaotic action and outlandish humor that will really make you want to add it to your shelf.
3. Inscryption
The deck builder genre has offered some of the most quietly compelling video game experiences in recent years, but I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever seen a deck builder as intriguing as Inscryption.
The creator of 2016’s bizarre and wonderful Pony Island brings us this strange little game that combines elements of the deckbuilding genre with escape rooms and psychological horror. I can’t imagine how all of those incredible flavors are going to be mixed together into something cohesive, which honestly makes me that much more excited to see what this game is all about.
2. Trek to Yomi
If Ghost of Tsushima didn’t quite give you a full dose of your Kurosawa-inspired video game fix, then you have to check out what Trek to Yomi promises to offer.
Trek to Yomi’s black-and-white visuals and samurai setting are obviously welcome Kurosawa callbacks, but it’s the way the gameplay references everything from Limbo and Mark of the Ninja to Bushido Blade that instantly shot this one near the top of our shortlist of underrated E3 2021 games more people should be talking about.
1. Immortality
With Her Story, Telling Lies, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Sam Barlow has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting and daring writers in gaming. Now, Barlow returns with E3 2021’s most underrated and overlooked game, Immortality.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Granted, we don’t know much about Immortality, but between the intriguing (if vague) premise that sees you explore three lost films starring a now missing actress and Barlowe’s outstanding track record, there’s no world in which fans of story-driven games won’t want to keep a close eye on this one.
