[Corvid snaps awake, still feeling the echo of the pressure on his chest from his dream, and still feeling the panic of something just out of view.

He spends a few seconds staring at the wall before him before he turns the other way, scooting back until his shoulder bumps the baseboard. And... from this angle, the light from the window above him lands just right to watch a few of Laris’s marks dance in their sleep.

The healer has mostly curled up under their blanket, but they tend to keep something on the back of their right hand, which is laying palm-down beside their head.

There’s a couple dancing across the back of their hand, hair and skirt trailing out into stylized flowers behind them.

He can’t quiet see their face, with how they’re curled around a spare pillow, but... he would imagine they’re having a nice dream.

He’s glad someone is.

He’s glad Laris is.

They deserve some good dreams right about now.]

[There’s the rumble of a growl starting in his chest, and Corvid rolls their eyes. That’s not going to do.

They turn, grab him by the collar of his coat, and pull him down into a kiss. It’s... easier than they expected, really.

He smells like dust, and like home, and they can feel his lower fangs against their lips, and when he pulls back, they can taste a hint of the coffee he’s been nursing for the past hour.]

[Aegis feels himself relax as he’s hit with the smell of home. He hears Corvid follow, but he doesn’t look up until he feels the cushion dip at his side. They’re so close, and they put a hand on the back of his neck, and he tilts forward to knock his forehead against theirs. But... it doesn’t really end up as the playful headbutt he’d intended. He lingers. And when their hand finds his cheek, he closes his eyes.

They just sit there, for a while. Listening to the both of them breathe while Corvid runs their fingertips back and forth along the side of his jaw.

It feels a little like unraveling, he thinks.

It’s nice at first, but it very quickly feels like he’s going to drown in... whatever it is.

He’s not entirely sure why he kisses them, then, but when he does, he can feel them smile against his lips, and it feels like he made the right decision.

He can feel it when they fall back into their own face, and when they pull back, he sees them smiling down at him with those purple-blue eyes of theirs. He’s missed the little crinkles at the corners of their eyes, and the scar along their cheekbone, and the patch of deep brown at the bottom of their left eye that he can only see well from up close. Cliff is plenty pretty, sure, and Corvid looks good in his face, but... he can’t help but miss seeing them at home, sometimes.

They smile the same no matter what face they’re in, though, and they scrunch their nose a little before they move to kiss him again.]

Laris reaches out from the chair they’d fallen into, making grabby hands at Corvid. It’s been a while, and they haven’t had a chance to just... hold her, since they met back up.

Corvid lets out a small breath and climbs into their lap, pulling an arm around them to hug to their chest in the handful of seconds it takes Aegis to start climbing into her lap in turn.

He pauses to look at Laris, seeing as their lap is the foundation of this small people pile, and they huff a laugh as they nod. They’re almost surprised he didn’t get to the idea first.

Not that they’re complaining, of course. All the extra weight on their chest and legs is nice. Like it settles them into their skin a little better, somehow.

They hug the both of them a little closer as they settle in. Laris doesn’t know about the other two, but they plan to nap for the next several hours. Or days, unless Cliff needs them first.

When Aegis starts purring, they feel the rumble through to their own chest, and they can’t help but smile a little.

Corvid’s grip on Cliff’s bicep tightens when he turns to look at them, and they get a look at the bandages across his face. They reach out, but their hand stops short of his cheek.

“What did they do?”

He huffs a laugh.

“I bit someone. Hard. ...Think I drew blood, too.”

Aegis puts a hand on their shoulder, and the look he gives Cliff... it says something, and while he’s not quite sure what that is, he thinks he agrees.

“You take Laris home, and I’ll get him back to you in one piece. We’ve got some business to take care of.”

Corvid opens their mouth to argue, and Aegis kisses their forehead.

“This is one of those things I’m not going to answer questions about. I love you, and I’ll keep him safe. I promise.”

Corvid paces the length of the room until the air opens for Aegis, with Cliff nearly hanging from the arm across his shoulders, and the two of them are... incredibly bloody. Corvid swears they can feel their heart stop for a second.

“Are you-“

Their voice breaks, and Aegis shakes his head.

“None of it’s his, and I’ll be fine. Mostly just a couple scrapes.”

He manages a bit of a smile, and... it’s more comforting than Corvid expects it to be. And they’ll have to tease him a little, later, about how his lip catches on one of his fangs when he does. It’s cute.

#cliff getting kidnapped? and Corvid going after him? and the two of them being housed near each other Bc fuck it they look the same why not #listen in on some conversations if the magic is mostly being stopped anyway? and Corvid realizing they can’t get the both of them out but #sometimes whatever’s interrupting magic falters and they can dip into he fade and try and get help? and aegis getting a whiff of them there #during some sulk and letting laris know he’s going after Corvid and laris insisting on coming along and aegis has to stop ever so often Bc #their head is spinning really bad but he won’t leave them behind Bc he’d hate that and knows they wouldn’t leave him? and him begrudgingly #starting to care about them? and them seeing past the grump a little? and they each have their respective moments of ‘Corvid would be so #proud of us for getting along’? and they end up kind of friends? #and when they catch up with Corvid they’re immediately like ok we have to turn around and get cliff out #and aegis is the one to actually like go in and he and cliff maybe commit a lot of damage and also maybe some homicide but neither of them #will tell and it’s sort of a thing between them after that of like ‘this guy’s my guy. if I need to break some shit and can’t do it alone #he’ll get it’ #and anyway what I was getting at is that once Corvid and their partners were reunited they 100% cuddled for a bit. either that night or as #soon as cliff was safe. and maybe aegis purrs a little and nobody says anything about it. and maybe Corvid half heartedly argues for a #minute but they also kinda want to be maybe held and laris has their arms wrapped around everyone and would maybe later compare aegis to a #lap cat or smth #and this could be summarized better but #character rambles #elysur #corvid qerq #aegis blackstone #also fun fact Blackstone is the town he lives in #he said fuck last names you have the info you could need leave me alone #and Corvid went ok hell yeah #and it stuck

Ok so like. The people who makes masks for facechangers, right? They fit the mask to the face, but the client doesn’t have to be there while it’s made. And the person doesn’t have to be able to turn into people themselves, which Angel is a good example of, even if she’s not got the role yet. So like... someone who’s job is basically just to be a model? Help get the details right? They’d have to be really trusted by grandma Seraq to have access to like... what everyone looks like, of course, but maybe that’s just like. Their whole job. No turning into people except for this purpose. Also, people irl make molds of people’s faces, so by the most current point it’s an optional thing, although it is also a good way to have a mask be more reliably comfortable. And Rij 100% opted in for her second proper mask because like.... she wanted a scar in it. She thought it’d be cool as hell and also making a mold of her head is a Very Uncomfortable Idea. And also because scar in the mask that follows the scar in her face.
