Summarizing as an autist 101

As an autist it is often hard to summarize, mainly because I cant for the life of me keep main points from smaller points. I just see everything as interesting information. But also because I cant actually remember half the important stuff at the moment I need it (hello object permanence).

So I thought Id share the little tips I have and hope you all can contribute. This isnt a step by step btw, just the questions i ask myself that need to be answered.

• take little notes in/on a separate doc/paper through your reading or 'thing to be summarized'

• what was the main topic? -> this is probs somewhere in the title of at the top.

• where do they get their information? what is their source?

• what did they talk about with the main topic? *keep this short at the beginning, expand more later*

• how was the texts/whatever structured?

• give 1 or 2 examples, be conctrete

• what do you think about the way they talked about the topic or about the structure?

• try to look for further away. are they actually saying anything or are they just bullshitting?

• when you need a minimum number of words and you arent there, i take one of these are write what i actually think about it. e.g. the texts i should be summarizing is writen from a biological point of view but was very obviously not written by a biologist. so i expanded on that as i am a biologist and they missed the best part.

• which leads me to the next point: use your strengths!!! my texts was talking about altruism, but i know a lot more about that, and they were wrong.

• make sure to keep it general tho: so if they were wrong with the altruism part, what else where they wrong about? what implication does this have for the whole texts?

• some nice structural thing/something you appreciated

I feeling so alone and frustrated.

asked my close friends for advice. Solution? pray to jesus. I've asked my patents before same thing. Pray (but to a different god. Asian polytheism)

I tell them I understand but I'm atheist, you know that, I don't believe that can you give me a concrete action to take? They just tell me, I know you don't believe just trust me.

Sometimes I just wanna talk too without you acting like you totally just ignored my statements about being atheist and how all the prayer talk will not help me.
