A Brief History of the Epcot Food and Wine Festival
Before we dive into all the incredible food and activities the festival has to offer, let's go over the history of the the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot! Origins and Early Years The Epcot Food & Wine Festival traces its origins back to 1995, when it began as a small event called the Walt Disney World Village Wine Festival held at the Disney Village (now Disney Springs). In 1996, the festival was moved to Epcot and rebranded as the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. The first year at Epcot featured just 25 global marketplace kiosks around the World Showcase promenade.  It ran for 30 days from September 28 to October 27, bridging the gap between the summer and holiday seasons to boost park attendance. Some popular food items that debuted in 1996 and have remained festival staples include Canada's cheddar cheese soup, Poland's pierogies, and Germany's apple strudel. Gaining Popularity (1997-2001) The festival started gaining major popularity in its early years at Epcot: - In 1997, a benefit gala was added featuring celebrity chef Julia Child to raise money for hunger relief organizations. - The Art of Winemaking seminar series debuted in 1998, hosted by master sommeliers. - Educational wine exhibits were added around World Showcase in 1999, as well as the first Disney Classic 10K race. - The Millennium Village exhibit celebrated global cultures in 2000. - The Robert Mondavi winery showcased the winemaking process in 2001. Signature Events Introduced (2002-2006) Several signature events were introduced during this period that became annual staples: - Party for the Senses and the Eat to the Beat Concert Series both debuted in 2002. - Kitchen Karnival for kids was added in 2003. - Sparkling wines in cans with straws were introduced in 2004 for sipping while strolling. - The Odyssey cooking school launched in 2005, along with the Food & Wine Race for the Taste 10K. - 2006 marked the festival's 10th anniversary with special celebrations. Continued Growth and Innovation (2007-Present) As the festival's popularity exploded, Disney continued expanding and adding new elements: - New marketplaces like Twinings Tea Bar and Celebrate Oklahoma debuted in 2007. - The festival duration was extended each year, reaching a record 129 days in 2022. - More special events, seminars, celebrity chef appearances, and musical acts were added. - In 2024, a new Festival Center area called CommuniCore Hall will open as a dedicated home base. What started as a small 30-day event has transformed into a major 129-day festival featuring over 25 global marketplaces, nightly concerts, seminars, culinary demos, and other immersive experiences celebrating food, beverage and culture from around the world. The Festival Epcot Food and Wine has become one of Disney World's most popular annual events!

Orianthi met and jammed with Carlos Santana when she was 18. He invited Orianthi to get up and jam with him at soundcheck then later asked if she would join him on stage that night to jam at his Adelaide concert, Memorial Drive on 30 March 2003.
Orianthi independently released her debut studio album, Violet Journey in 2005, composing all the material, contributing guitar, vocals, and drums on most cuts. She produced and mixed the final product at her home studio. Carlos Santana brought Orianthi to Paul Reed Smith's attention which led to her endorsement. Orianthi relocated to Los Angeles, signed with Geffen Records in late 2006 and struck a management deal with 19 Entertainment.
Orianthi has made a commercial for Panasonic, featured in the song "Now or Never" for Bratz: The Movie, played at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival, appeared in The New York Times business section promoting eco-friendly acoustic guitars, and opened for Steve Vai in the US.
On 29 August 2011, Orianthi was announced as Alice Cooper's new guitarist. She replaced Damon Johnson, who is now a member of Thin Lizzy. She was the first female member of the Alice Cooper band. Orianthi did two world tours with Alice Cooper, but resigned in June 2014, and was replaced by Nita Strauss. Her departure caused a rift between her and Strauss' respective fanbases, though the guitarists themselves are friends.
Orianthi has appeared as a guitarist for other stars including shows with Michael Bolton, Dave Stewart and James Durbin. She also appeared on the Top 7-week season 12 of American Idol on 3 April 2013 to play guitar for each of the performances. One month later Orianthi performed Fine China with Chris Brown at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, and on 8 December of that same year she paid tribute to Carlos Santana, performing in the Kennedy Center Honors Gala. She spent most of 2013–2015 touring with Dave Stewart, started BeMyBand, and released a song. In 2014, she joined Richie Sambora for his solo tour in Australia and Europe. In 2016, the two toured under the name RSO in Australia, South America and the UK.

Ledisi
Tumblr media
Ledisi Anibade Young (born March 28, 1972), better known simply as Ledisi, is an American R&B and jazz recording artist, songwriter, and actress. Her first name means "to bring forth" or "to come here" in Yoruba. In 1995, Ledisi formed the group Anibade. After unsuccessfully trying to get the group signed to a major label, she formed LeSun Records with Sundra Manning. Anibade and Ledisi released an album entitled "Soulsinger" (black and white cover on the LeSun Music independent label) featuring the song Take Time, which gained substantial airplay from San Francisco area radio stations. A twelve-time Grammy Award nominee, Ledisi has released eight studio albums between 2000 and 2017.
In 2000, Ledisi re-released her first major label signed album, titled Soulsinger: The Revival. Ledisi and her group toured in 2001. In 2002, Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue. The album won an award for "Outstanding Jazz Album" at the California Music Awards.
In 2005, Ledisi signed a record deal with Verve Forecast and released her third album, titled Lost & Found, on August 28, 2007; it sold almost 217,000 copies and earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist. In 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It's Christmas.
In 2009, Ledisi released her fourth album Turn Me Loose, which earned her two Grammy nominations, followed by her fifth album Pieces of Me (2011) which debuted on the US Billboard 200 album chart at number eight, becoming the first top-ten album of her career and her highest-charting album to date. It also garnered three Grammy nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards including for Best R&B Album. In 2013, she received a nomination for Best R&B Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards for her collaboration with fellow R&B and jazz musician Robert Glasper for the album cut "Gonna Be Alright" from his fifth album Black Radio (2012). In 2014, she released her sixth album The Truth to critical acclaim and moderate sales. She portrayed legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, Selma.
Early life
Ledisi was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in a musical family; her mother, Nyra Dynese, sang in a Louisiana R&B band and her stepfather, Joseph Pierce III, (deceased) was a drummer in the New Orleans area. Her biological father is soul singer Larry Sanders, the son of blues singer Johnny Ace. He left the family when she was a baby and they did not meet again for nearly three decades.
Ledisi first began performing publicly at age eight with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Ledisi moved to Oakland, California, where she attended McChesney Junior High School, now Edna Brewer Middle School. She was shy about her singing abilities and would sing only upon request when students in her gym class would implore her to sing Deniece Williams's version of Black Butterfly, bringing the entire locker room audience under the spell of her very mature, melodious voice. As she sang more publicly her music career blossomed. She was nominated for a Shellie award in 1990 for her performance in a production of The Wiz and performed in an extended run with the San Francisco cabaret troupe, Beach Blanket Babylon. She studied opera and piano for five years at University of California Berkeley in their Young Musicians Program.
Musical career
1995–1999: Career beginnings
In the 1990s, Ledisi formed a group called Anibade, alongside Sundra Manning (producer, keyboards, songwriting), Phoenix (LaGerald) Normand (background vocals, songwriting), Cedrickke Dennis (guitar), Nelson Braxton (bass), Wayne Braxton (sax), and Rob Rhodes (drums), playing a jazz and hip-hop influenced kind of soul. The group won acclaim in the San Francisco Bay Area with a cult-like following of die-hard fans who referred to themselves as "Ledites" and meet her with love at every event, singing along verbatim to songs that though unrecorded at the time, were well known by their fans. The group later recorded a demo of one of the songs from their set, entitled, "Take Time" which was played on local stations and requested non-stop. Ledisi tried to get the group signed to a major label, but had no luck. Ledisi also performed often with jazz saxophonist Robert Stewart throughout the early 1990s in San Francisco.
2000–2003: Soulsinger: The Revival and Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue
In January 2000, Ledisi released her first album, Soulsinger: The Revival, independently on her label, LeSun Records. The album spun off four singles, "Soulsinger", "Take Time", "Get Outta My Kitchen", and "Good Lovin'". After the release of Soulsinger: The Revival, Ledisi toured with her group Anibade.
In 2002, Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue, which was also released independently. The album featured the singles "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue" and "Autumn Leaves". During this time she also recorded commercials for the Sci Fi Channel. In 2003, Ledisi won "Outstanding Jazz Album" for Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue at the California Music Awards.
2006–2008: Lost & Found
During her five-year hiatus, Ledisi made appearances on soundtracks. In 2007, she signed with Verve and released "Blues in the Night" which featured on the tribute album, We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song.
In August 2007, Ledisi's third album, Lost & Found, was released. During her hiatus, Ledisi stated that she was unsure of wanting to stay in the music industry. In response, Ledisi wrote the song "Alright" to express her life. "Alright" became the lead single and debuted at #45 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. The album's second single, "In The Morning", debuted at #49 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. Other songs from the album charted but were not released as singles. "Think of You" charted at #71 on the Hot R&B charts, "Joy" charted at #103 on the Hot R&B charts and #29 on the Adult R&B Airplay.
In December 2007, the album earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist. In 2008, Ledisi continued her tour to promote the album, Lost & Found. By January 2009, the album had sold 216,894 copies.
In September 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It's Christmas, which featured the singles "This Christmas" and "Children Go Where I Send Thee". In December 2008, Ledisi's T.V. special aired on Gospel Channel, titled "Ledisi Christmas". Ledisi performed a few songs from her Christmas album. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "Give Love On Christmas Day" charted on the Hot R&B charts at #113.
In 2008 Ledisi performed the song "The Man I Love" as a blues singer in the Leatherheads movie.
2009–2010: Turn Me Loose
In 2009, Ledisi's fourth studio album was announced as Turn Me Loose. The album was released on August 18, 2009. Speaking in April 2010 to noted UK R&B writer Pete Lewis – Deputy Editor of the award-winning Blues & Soul – Ledisi explained the album's title reflected its musical diversity: "The title 'Turn Me Loose' is basically me saying 'I don't wanna be boxed in! Let me be myself as a performer and singer, because I do EVERYTHING! Not just one particular style!'." She employed production from seasoned R&B songwriter-producers such as Raphael Saadiq, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, James "Big Jim" Wright, and Carvin & Ivan. The first single from the album was "Goin' Thru Changes". The second single was "Higher Than This", produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and James "Big Jim" Wright.
On May 13, 2010, Ledisi performed at Charter Oak Cultural Center's 9th Annual Gala, a fundraiser for free after-school youth arts programming in inner-city Hartford. She performed several songs from Turn Me Loose, and also performed a duet with Anika Noni Rose, a tribute to the late Lena Horne.
2011–2012: Pieces of Me
Ledisi toured with R&B/soul singer Kem on his North American INTIMACY Tour. On March 10, 2011, during her opening act in Atlanta, Georgia, Ledisi announced that she had finished recording her fifth studio album, Pieces of Me, on March 9, 2011. It was released on June 14, 2011. It debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 38,000 copies in its first week. The album's title track served as the album's lead single.
Ledisi has performed at the White House seven times at the request of President and First Lady Obama.
Ledisi headlined her first tour to promote her album, Pieces of Me. The Pieces of Me Tour played to 22 sold out shows across North America. With this album, she received three nominations for the 2012 Grammy Awards, in the categories Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song, for the album and the lead single "Pieces of Me".
Ledisi released her first book, Better Than Alright: Finding Peace, Love & Power on Time Home Entertainment, Inc. in 2012. The book, an innovative collaboration with ESSENCE, is filled with the singer's personal photos, quotes, lyrics, and richly detailed stories of her journey to acceptance of her beauty, talent, and power.
On April 6, 2012, Ledisi announced her second headlining tour, B.G.T.Y., with Eric Benet serving as an opening act. In December 2012, VH1 announced that Ledisi would perform at their 2012 VH1 Divas show, a concert benefiting the Save The Music Foundation charity. Ledisi performed a Whitney Houston tribute medley with Jordin Sparks and Melanie Fiona.
2014–2016: The Truth
On March 2014, Ledisi released her new album The Truth. She is also on tour with Robert Glasper in partnership with the magazine "Essence" (which featured her on one of their three April covers as well as Erykah Badu and Solange Knowles).
In April 2014, Ledisi was cast to play Mahalia Jackson in the American historical drama film, Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb and DuVernay. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. In the film and on the official film soundtrack, Ledisi sings "Take My Hand, Precious Lord". Initially slated to perform at the 57th Grammy Awards as part of a tribute to the Selma March alongside Common and John Legend (who performed their Oscar-winning duet "Glory") she was ultimately snubbed by the Recording Academy and recording artist Beyoncé, who performed in her place. Ledisi's snubbing and Beyoncé's performance received mixed reaction from social media. In 2015, she received her ninth Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance for the single "Like This" off of her seventh album The Truth. She lost to Beyoncé and Jay Z for "Drunk in Love".
2017–present: Let Love Rule
In May 2017, Ledisi released a single titled "High" produced by Darhyl "Hey DJ" Camper and Rex Rideout. Her eighth studio album called Let Love Rule was released on September 22, 2017. In November 2017, she received three more nominations at the 60th Grammy Awards in January 2018 including Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance and Best Traditional R&B Performance. Ledisi won a Soul Train Award 'Soul Certified Award' for the album.
Ledisi helped the BET Awards pay tribute to Anita Baker, the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient of the night on June 24, with a rendition of the singer's 1986 ode "Sweet Love".
Ledisi was then a part of the Aretha Franklin Tribute that was put together by the annual award ceremony known as Black Girls Rock. Ledisi delivered a rendition of the hit "Ain't No Way".
In October 2018, Ledisi performed with Adam Lambert in an NBC broadcast, A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway, before a live studio audience at the Marquis Theatre in New York, singing "As Long as You're Mine" from Wicked.

Bts paved the way for kpop idc what anyone says no one cared about kpop until BTS
I beg to differ, maybe for the late 2010′s and performing at award shows but not for kpop as a whole. However, this is always going to be a topic that always going to be two sided. And I full on respect your opinion, because I can see where its coming from.
I’ve always felt like kpop was just a sub genre like a lot of other music, while its not mainstream and US artist will always have the upperhand in their home country kpop has a large enough following in the US, its just like that time were J-rock and J-pop was huge… btw does anyone remember Puffy AmiYumi?
I think the reason as to why it really looks like they were the ones who paved the way for kpop is because of the social media and fandom culture we have now, from 2005-2014 social media culture wasn’t like what it is today, I’m not even talking about fan interaction either, because I feel like there was way more fan interaction on twitter from the B.A.P members.
Lets see the timeline of kpop/korean artist making headlines in America
2005
Rain made headlines for being the first ever Korean artist to perform outside of Asia. He was also the first Korean artist to perform in the US, and let alone do a 2 hour concert. It’s one of the biggest Korean concert that was held in NYC. It even featured Pi Diddy, Omarion, and JoJo Levesque. This was the initial foot print that the hallyu wave had outside of Asia
2006
Rain made headlines for because Time magazine listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, to that Stephen Colbert invited him on his show and they did a parody of Way to Avoid the sun.
The year that MTV made a special channel on American TV soley for kpop called MTVk
2007
Rain also again gained more american attention for being listed in People’s most beautiful people in the world
2008
Bi Rain and Joon Park both were in Speed Racer, that was a big achievement for Korean Singers… just simply being able to graze the big screen. Rain more so than Joon got a good amount of attention, he even got some American interviews
2009
Rain and Lee Joon were in Ninja Assassin. Rain made major headlines for again not only being in an American movie but this time actually staring in the movie and about how much training he did just for the movie.
This was also the same year Korean actor Lee Byun hyun had his US debut
GD at the time also got some attention after the alleged plagiarism between Heartbreaker and Right Round when Flo Rida performed with him
Wonder Girls made their American debut
Wonder Girls were the opening act for the Jonas Brothers making the Jonas brothers one of the first American artist to work with a kpop group
BoA’s eat you up was released and played everywhere
2010
Rain again made American attention by not only being nominated for an American award show but also winning MTV’s Movie Awards Biggest Badass Star beating Angelina Jolie, Chris Pine, Channing Tatum, and Sam Worthington
Will.I.Am started to work with 2ne1
2011
Bigbang gain global attention and celebrity clout after being the first kpop group nominated, attending and winning Best Global act at the MTV EMA’s beating Britney Spears in the process
2012
Fantastic Baby went viral, reaction videos were popping up left and right. Fantastic Baby even played in some stores and I believe some radio stations
Fantastic Baby was featured Glee
SNSD had their American debut
Wonder Girls made a American movie and JYP was featured in it (i know.. its cheesy)
This is the year of B.A.P’s debut where their debut album made it into the the World Album Chart at number 10 which was extremely rare at the time considering they didn’t even have a kpop section yet.
Bigbang was on the Grammy’s front page twice
Bigbang’s Alive world tour was the only full on sold out Kpop concert at the time, selling out not only in NA but SA and Europe, and were forced to add extra dates because the demand was extremely high, not to mention celebrities were showing up left and right to their tour stops
This year was also Psy’s year which did bring attention to kpop and YG ent… regardless if Gangnam Style is a joke or not
The first Kcon was created
GD also got international attention by showing up at PFW12
2013
B.A.P and Psy were featured on Grammy’s “Best of 2012″ making B.A.P the only kpop group on that page
B.A.P’s first world tour for their US dates sold out in about an hour
Little Mix decided to join in on the Hallyu wave by doing a Korean version of Wings
Will and Jaden smith met up with YG fam and Jay Park which brought attention to kpop beings that Jay wrote a song for their movie
Will.I.Am and 2ne1′s collab was released
Anna Kendrick also wanted to get in on the Hallyu wave action by meeting up with f(x)
B.A.P performed in time square generating so much attention
The year that Billboard gave themselves a kpop section because of the major Hallyu wave giving credit to B.A.P, 2ne1, and Bigbang for helping that chart exists
Justin Bieber asked GD to feature at his concert in Seoul and proceed to tweet and IG about him
Paris Hilton talked about GD being her favorite Korean artist
Paris Hilton tweeted about hanging out with GD
Barbara Palvin talked about GD
Choi Siwon went to the Met Gala
Super Junior was invited to Oxford to talk about how they helped start the hallyu wave and the kpop attention in the US
2014
Skrilex released his song featuring CL and GD
B.A.P did a nickelodeon shout out
I think this was the year that Exo got a lot of American attention too, but im not sure because im not an Exo-L
GD got attention just for showing up at Coachella
CL signed with School Boy
I am the Best was featured in a microsoft commercial
2015
Emma Stone professed her love for kpop on American TV
Fantastic Baby was featured in the Pitch Perfect trailer
I am the Best was featured in a microsoft commercial again
Hyukoh’s Come and Goes gained international attention
2016
Far East Movement worked with Chanyeol and Loco
Jaden Smith tweeted about GD being is inspiration
Baauer released a song featuring GD
Lil Yachty did his Bigbang tribute and has been know to be a fanboy of bigbang for a while
Epik High was the first Kpop group to perform at Coachella
CL performed on James Corden
I am the Best was featured in a microsoft commercial again
Hello Bitches was in a T-Moble commercial
GD got international attention for being chosen as Channels ambassador
2017
President Obama talked about the Hallyu wave and gave credit to shinee
Tablo, Rain, and Kim Taehee were invited to the Grammys
Jaden Smith tweeted about GD’s album
Jay Park signed with Roc Nation
DNCE talked about wanting to work with GD
GD got international attention for is world tour
2018
I am the Best was featured in a Kia commercial
Hyukoh’s Citizen Cane was chosen to be in the Animoji comercial
Hyukoh x Beats by Dre
Hyukoh was interviewed by Beats1
Taeyang got international attention for just getting married
I would go more into detail by just tweeting about kpop but thats too much work to look for, kpop is a fad and it comes and goes. I kind of like what Hyukoh said about the whole Hallyu Wave/BTS thing they said “I think it’s really interesting and it’s fun to watch. Because of it, I think in some aspects were are benefitting from it, that’s really great. But nothing is forever, there will be some point when K-pop won’t be as popular. But because we’re not K-pop, I hope we stay popular even when K-pop is not.“
BTS did not start the hallyu wave, nor did they pave they way. They were just the first to walk on that new path which then inspired more to do the same and they were the first to win fandom based awards.
No matter what this will always be a topic is where some OG and new kpop fans clash, so yes, BTS is helping the Hallyu wave but they didn’t create the fad. I think the real Hallyu wave starter is Rain

Rick Wright
1943 – 2008
Selfless psychedelic sound pioneer
With the death from cancer recently of Rick Wright, the faint lingering hopes of another Pink Floyd reunion have been finally dashed.  Ironically for a group that not once but twice managed to successfully replace its leading songwriter from within the band ranks, the loss of Wright’s distinctive keyboards leaves a more insurmountable gap in the band’s sound.
“He’s probably the underrated one really,” drummer Nick Mason told me, “because a lot of the band’s sound had to do with the way that Rick used the keyboards.  Whether it was the piano – that ghastly Farfisa – or the Hammond, the way he would layer things underneath was an important part of the sound, I think, and it tends to get forgotten amongst the welter of guitar solos, which are of course the mainstay of rock and roll.  It’s that layering that actually connected the different elements of our music together; it was perhaps the most important part.”
“I was very sad to hear of Rick’s premature death,” Roger Waters told me in an email (he and Wright had a sometimes stormy relationship). “I knew he’d been ill, but the end came suddenly and shockingly.  As for the man and his work, it is hard to overstate the importance of his musical voice in the Pink Floyd of the ‘60s & ‘70s.  The intriguing, jazz-influenced modulations and voicings so familiar in Us And Them and Great Gig In The Sky, which lent those compositions both their extraordinary humanity and their majesty, are omnipresent in all collaborative work the four of us did in those times.  Rick’s ear for harmonic progression was our bedrock.”
“It’s been the Floyd’s thing, ever since we started, to have a more subtle balance between quiet and loud,” Wright told me a few years ago.  “That’s not a trademark of the Floyd, but it’s certainly something we do well. For me, that might possibly have come from being brought up on classical music, in which the symphonies have huge dynamics.”  Other keyboardists in the rising progressive-rock scene were more concerned with virtuoso displays and theatrical bombast, but the classically influenced pads, washes and progressions favoured by Wright would ultimately be more influential on subsequent generations of mood-orientated ambient/house musicians, as would the characteristically brooding, melancholy tone he brought to the band’s sound.
The final chapter to the Pink Floyd story came with the band’s reunion to play the Live 8 concert, an emotional affair for the band and audience alike, though Wright did have some reservations about its more corporate aspects.  Since then he played on On An Island, the 2006 solo album by Dave Gilmour, who said of his friend and colleague, “He was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man, and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him.”  He is survived by his third wife, Millie, their son Ben and Jamie and Gala, his children from his marriage to Juliette Gale.
