The phrase "bee's knees" was Prohibition-era slang for "the best." Frank Meier, an Austrian-born bartender was the creator of the modern Bee's Knees. Frank Meier (The Bartender Spy) whose life is even more interesting than his cocktail, was the head bartender at what is now Bar Hemingway in the Ritz Hotel in Paris.
