CM Evolution Episode 8 Thoughts

Spoilers underneath

So this episode was really good. AJ did a fantastic job directing and I love the directing style she has when it comes to her episodes

I loved all the Willfer and family scenes and omg I can’t believe how much the kids have grown up. Henry is taller than JJ lol

So glad that Tyler wasn’t in this episode but low key sad Bailey wasn’t in it either

Really wish someone would knock some sense into Garcia and tell her that her relationship is going to have repercussions for the team

Why do I feel like Luke isn’t gonna care at all that Garcia is with Tyler and they’re going to scrap Garvez. If they are might as well as give Luke a boyfriend so he isn’t alone and we can see more of his personal life

The case was interesting and the team are so close to figuring out that Lee is Elias. Can’t wait for that revelation

Rossi showing up at Sydney’s door had be shooked. So curious to see how this will turn out

kay so new cm episode names have dropped so heres some meta to spark some ideas abt what might be going on there B)

16x02: “sicarius” so there’s two things that come up with this search - a species of recluse spider, with a venom called “Loxoscelism” which causes necrosis around the bite area. the second thing is the “sicarii” who were zealots opposing roman occupation of judea (plus some more religious links, some more modern than others)

since we also know about the whole ‘web’ thing of unsubs being connected during covid -- classic spiders web metaphor, very nice -- and im guessing the main murderer for that episode uses some kind of necrotic poison or acidic thing with the same effect. 

16x04: “pay-per-view”  probably focusing around hotels/ppv content (could be some kind of OF connection there if they’re going the mega-modern approach considering it got popularised around covid era) either way its going into the roots of high-risk victims or some kind of snuff content that the unsub is making? eh im not too sure about that one.

16x05: “oedipus wrecks” oh hell yeah oedipus complex, which comes from a play about oedipus rex by sophocles. taking from the britannica, its about “the king of Thebes who unwittingly killed his father and married his mother “ so if there isn’t any incest in this i will actually be surprised! also interfamily conflict 100%, its wrecks instead of rex so another fun little pun about how its ruining the family/relationships of the people around them yk.

16x08: “pas de deux” eheheheh dance references!! so im assuming a duo of some kind, which OOOH i always loved the duo episodes of cm theyre so FUN. either its gonna be a couple or it focuses around ballet and some kind of competitive couple (maybe even an understudy gone mad to get the role of their dreams, even with the assistance of a partner who got cast as the main role) <[if they dont use that im stealing it for a fic]

also cant believe theres just an episode called MOOSE??? are they going to canada again????

Okay. As far as episodes go, this one again felt like filler - like connective tissue leading up to something(s) bigger. Ultimately not particularly interesting in its own right. But, bright spots? Not so little Henry Lamontagne. A nice bit of Tara & Luke camaraderie. Emily Prentiss looking fine as hell, as per usual. And some more Elias Voit time, if that's what you're into (I'm not, but it's not horrible).

Really missing...Rebecca, right about now. So Tara stopped freaking out about her phone and then.....nothing? Gimme a little something here, CM. An indication of some kind. Emily running into Rebecca in the hallway (oh wait, Rebecca got pulled back to DC, no longer at Quantico). Anyway, want more of that. I'm not mad there was no overt follow up on the Garcia/Tyler sitch. It's coming, I'm sure.

“I know you didn’t get any sleep last night” tbf Rossi, she was too busy fucking Tyler, a material witness

Garcia trying not to say anything about last night to Rossi, cause he’s Rossi. Normally, I’d laugh at these moments but this pissed me off given how selfish it made Garcia, seeing how she risked sleeping with a witness that could jeopardize the case and endanger hers and her friends’ careers and the BAU’s image

Rossi knows that Garcia doesn’t sleep well when she drinks three cups of tea. He’s such a dad, will be a disappointed dad if he knew what happened...

Elias in California stalking another potential victim? Oh no...

If only the lady knew that the guy that was calling her is Elias watching her from outside

It’s been a while since we saw an unsub chase scene, and Luke chasing after them

Back to willifer. I was worried when Henry confronts JJ and Luke about the doctor but I love seeing how Henry just wanted to look out for his family and that he cares about them. JJ and Will comforting Henry about Will’s diagnosis and condition

Elias calling his wife and wanting to tell her everything, even saying that he’ll come home tonight, poor Sydney

Oh shit, Rossi is at Sydney’s door, what does that mean?

 This episode is okay, not too bad, I’d give it a 6/10 or 7/10 if I’m being nice. I do hate how short it is especially since the previous episodes were more than 50 minutes long. I love that Tara and Luke got more screentime but it was a little too late, since the writers had all of the previous episodes especially 6 and 7 to give them more screentime and this is the last opportunity since we’re near the end of the season. Very disappointed at how underutilized Luke and Tara are, especiall Luke, and the chance of seeing more of his personal life this season is unlikely, seeing with only two episodes left. I’m glad there’s no Tyler Green or Greencia but I’m annoyed at the lack of acknowledgement there is seeing how there’s serious repercussions on an FBI agent sleeping with a material witness, and Garcia being hypocritical by telling Rossi to go to therapy when she also needs more of it seeing how reckless she is. I still love all the willfier moments and Henry looking out for them cause he loves them so much Kudos for AJ making a decent episode
