The Hard Water Analogy & Midnights

I really think that Midnights is Taylor re-pulling a "the Old Taylor can't come to the phone...". Originality has been a recurring discussion with this album- I'm on the fence in that regard due to this reason:

If you have a hard water system installed in your home, it might clog your drains over time. Annoying, right? You might want to change that. If you just install a soft water system, not much will change. The water might feel different, but the clogs are still there. To fully embrace the switch, you have to also unclog the drains.

This album might be Taylor unclogging the drain. All Too Well (the Short Film), folklore, and evermore feel like her installing the soft water system. But with the re-recordings, she might've been stuck in that mindset of "Old Taylor" and it could have restricted her artistically. Midnights serves as the scar tissue that might allow her to grow into a different artist.

So what might this mean for Future Taylor?

I'd be surprised if we got any more Taylor's Version eras. As a Speak Now stan, this is disappointing- but it makes sense. I can't listen to Karma and then think 'oh, yeah- maybe this time next year we'll be vibing to Sparks Fly and maybe I'll get Haunted merch!'.

Speaking of Karma...

Why isn't Midnights called Karma?? I have a feeling that the plan was to name it the latter... but that wouldn't fit with the thesis. Reputation is more of a Karma, albeit a more adolescent one. Midnights, however, is the marking of a new dawn. It's a closing chapter to a new day- clearing out the skeletons in the closet while also experimenting with new sounds.

I'm hoping that if Miss Swift continues to pursue music as intensely as she has, her next releases might include more collaborators as producers. Lavender Haze and Karma have been the biggest hits in my sphere... they have the most collaborators. I feel as though that's a clear sign for her to branch out more creatively.
