Seriously, WHAT HAPPENED TO CLEXACON??
I came across this video on my FYP reminding me about ClexaCon (video linked below if you're interested) - TL:DW it basically talks about how the convention has been silent since 2023 and there are people who didn't redeem their 2020 tickets (even though they said we could).
Unfortunately, I was one of the people who wanted to use their ticket in 2023 but there was no real announcement about the event... I know the convention had issues pre-pandemic but it seemed like a safe and fun space to enjoy queer media and meet other fans. Is anyone else in this situation?
I never got to go to ClexaCon so I'd also love to hear about anyone else's experience (good or bad) with the event!!

Some exciting news! I’ve been accepted to have an artists’ table at next years Clexacon!
I’ve never sold art at a con before, so I’m both thrilled and super nervous.  I’ll be selling prints and stickers (maybe some buttons too), but will be deciding what art/ships/fandoms exactly closer to the date.

A Statement From Christin Baker for 2022
I was hoping to bring in the New Year with an announcement that I had bought back the majority of my company, Tello Films.  Unfortunately, I write this statement unable to share that news and I am uncertain if I will ever be able to. For reasons I will explain below, I have not been able to speak publicly regarding things that I have wanted to address for some time.  However, I feel that now is the time to do that as I move forward in 2022.
I consider myself a very loyal friend, almost to a fault – which has been to my detriment at times.  This loyalty allows me to blindly trust people, so much so that I sometimes fail to see the full picture  And now, as a result of that, my name is being incorrectly connected to an event in which I was nowhere nearly involved to the degree that may have been perceived by others. Worst of all, this connection has also hurt my reputation in the LGBTQ community.
I want to share my truth about my involvement with ClexaCon and its organizers, Danielle Jablonski and Ashley Arnold, as well as clear up any misconceptions or rumors.
In 2017, I was a sponsor through Tello Films and participated on panels as an industry guest/sponsor.
In 2018, I was a sponsor through Tello Films and participated on panels as an industry guest/sponsor.
During ClexaCon London, I was in charge of the photo booth area and participated on panels as a guest
In 2019, I was responsible for organizing the panels for the Thursday Filmmaker panel, and I was responsible for the photo op area as I was one of the owners of DASH Photos.  I was not in charge of the quality control of the photos but rather the operations and logistics of the photo ops.
I was not involved in the 2020 virtual convention or the in-person 2021 convention.
One thing I would like to be very clear about is that I was not and have never been involved in any decision-making processes for ClexaCon.  I was not involved in acquiring guests, making convention policies, or communicating with anyone as a representative of ClexaCon except in my discussions with the other filmmakers involved in the Thursday Filmmaker Convention in 2019.
With regards to my involvement with Danielle and Ashley and Tello Films: In 2018 they became partial owners of Tello Films, a company I founded in 2009.  While they own the majority shares in the company, I have remained President and CEO and I continue to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company.  Together, the three of us produced Season of Love and I Hate New Year’s.
In the fall of 2020, it became clear that our business goals were not aligned and I began the process of severing ties with them.  Around this time, I launched A Baker Production and produced Christmas at the Ranch with different producers.  In April of 2021, the production property that was jointly owned was sold and I started the process of trying to buy back Danielle and Ashley’s shares of Tello Films.  It was my hope to have this completed by the end of the year, but after 10 months of negotiations,  unfortunately we were not able to come to a resolution.  As of this moment, I am unsure about my future with the Tello Films organization due to them still owning the majority of the company’s shares.
I would like to emphasize that my professional future does not include a partnership with them or being part of ClexaCon.  I have divested my involvement with DASH Productions and Dash Photography as well.
There have been incorrect and defamatory statements made about me due to my previous associations with ClexaCon and DASH Productions. While I understand these assumptions were made because of my prior professional involvement, I hope that in finally being able to speak my truth people will stop negatively associating me with the decisions made at ClexaCon.  I have worked hard to be a collaborative person who sets high standards for myself and my honest dealings.  My involvement with the aforementioned individuals and entities has tarnished my reputation and I want to get it back.  Most of all, I want to continue making films to further LGBTQ representation for our community in healthy, positive ways and I hope this statement is the start of that.
Hoping for a creative 2022,
Christin

In case you missed it
last year there was a ton of clexacon drama, even actually talent spoke out about how terrible the event was.
the entire crew of clexacon apart from the 2 people who ruined it ended up resigning after this past year, and a bunch of them have now moved on to a new queer event called QFXEvents
Tumblr media
This one in particular is called QFX East which makes me think theyre gonna have a total of four all over the world so we dont have to travel as much to get there! so far this is the first and only one they have announced. I have a lot of great friends working hard on this and I encourage you to check it out. They are composed of trans men, queer women, and POC.
A big issues with cl*xac*n was their accessibility, qfc released their accessibility info and it is... so well done

Please check out QFX Events!!!

I got more than I can handle at Clexacon this year and I feel a deep desire in my heart to share it so!! I’m doing a giveaway! There are going to be 3 winners, first and second get one of the two bundles and third gets a pdf of the zine only. I will pay for shipping/zines/etc.
To receive the bundles I will need your name and mailing address, the zines just an email should be good. The law says you have to be 18+ and in America to participate, and I also have to say this is not in any way affiliated with Tumblr the website and is instead all me.
To enter you need to:
1.) reblog only once and put in the tags which bundle you would prefer if you were to win.
2.) reply to this post with the worst possible Supergirl head canon you can come up with. Just make it real gnarly. If it makes me groan in horror you’re probably on the right track.
And that’s it! You don’t have to be following me (although you definitely should because I’m pretty great) and you can only enter once, so make it count. Reblogging a dozen times won’t improve your chances. Entries are due by April 28th 5 PM CDT, I’ll announce the winners by the 29th.

THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by my tables at Clexacon and Shutocon! I had so much fun at both conventions, and even got a couple of my prints signed at Clexacon :D And a huge hello to all new followers who found me there, it was great meeting you all!!
So after two successful conventions, I’m switching up the charity my art profits are being donated to! Profits up to this point have been donated to EuroRelief to aid refugees, and from here until the next switch, everything is going to be donated to the ACLU ^^
Also, being a purely art blog is getting pretty boring, so I’m going to start reblogging whatever random stuff I feel like on my Tumblr. But honestly my reblogs will probably be sporadic and infrequent, just like my art posting. But all my art is now going to be tagged with #PixelPaynt, so there will be some organization
Finally, congrats to @reindeeraccumulated for winning my Shuto raffle! I’ll send you a private message with details :)

I believe fandom should be a self-policing community. I think "call-out culture" as executed by attacking people for ideological purity points without allowing room for growth is reductive and unhelpful, but I also think much of the criticism around call-out culture is a poorly disguised derailment by people who don't want to be held accountable for the shit they do/like/support.
I don't believe in doxxing, I don't believe in threats and harassment but I do believe in accountability. I believe that harmful tropes in fandom spaces need to be starved of oxygen, like a fire. They need to be starved in the dark.
I believe it's the responsibility of fandom as a community to listen to our most marginalized members, to find the things that hurt them, to look at the creators of these works and say "no, not here, this place is not for you, we don't want you."
No reviews, no kudos, no bookmarks, no rec lists, no views for toxic violent fetishism.
I grew up in fandom in the early 00s when adult/minor pairings were incredibly popular and rarely criticized. I'm aware it's still an issue in fandom but there's been a hard push back against pedophilic works in fandom over the years, it's nowhere near as popular as it once was, it's reviled widely by the majority of most fandoms.
In F/F fandoms, we're at that moment again right now with harmful, fetishistic transmisogynist tropes becoming increasingly prevalent and normalized in our spaces. A/b/o and g!p fics that appropriate fetishized version of trans women's bodies to get cis and afab people off. An undeniable majority of these stories paint trans women as sexually aggressive, dominating and often abusers, playing into tropes that actively and regularly harm members of our most vulnerable community.
I'm sick and tired of my fellow cis lesbian and bi women passively and uncritically consuming this shit. I'm tired of something that hurts our trans sisters being allowed to flourish in our fandom spaces, making them unsafe and hostile.
One of the worst perpetrators of these tropes was announced as a panel member at Clexacon this year. She already has a massive following an an extremely successful patreon - she gets PAID for this.
It's time for an accounting as a community. You can't reblog generic "fuck terfs" posts and support this shit. You can't meme about all the respect trans women juice you're drinking while participating in something that's harming them.
We've gotta get our house in order. We've gotta be accountable. We've gotta put our money where our mouth is. We've got to say no this shit.
(I'm a cis lesbian so if trans women think I need to shut the fuck up and stay in my lane, I'll happily do so)
