First Day in a Major Rotation - Internal Medicine July 3, 10:42 PM Junior Intern's Entry Notes
Surrounded by a view of beeping machines, patients hooked on different machines, maintained on guard by the health care team due to their critical conditions. This was given to me as a blessing in disguise. It was never my intention and wish to be assigned in one of the best yet most toxic ward of all, Intensive Care unit, where every minute matters, every second counts and every blink of an eye can change lives. But it was one of the best experiences/ rotation I had -- memorable, fulfilling and meaningful times in my Clerkship year. Story goes on & continues...

An open letter to the best Mom (Luz) in the world;
Others would ask me how I survived a whole year of Clerkship, enjoying every part of both worlds -- benign and toxic life. Looking back, a large part of how I actually survived it was because of my Mom. I was then so excited to start another chapter in Medlife, and you are with(in) me always (physically, emotionally and mentally).
My mom is my strength: she gracefully does everything almost perfectly :) her will, power, determination, faith and positivity made us who we are today. Got it from our Mama, of course!
My mom is my blessing: during patient rounds, I clearly remember this one patient (a nun) of mine, whom I have never met before but recognized me the moment I introduced my name. She told me she was praying for me and that she remembers my name. My Mom had been the one sending petition of prayers for us :)
My mom is my life saver: after 32+ hrs or so from duty, they would pick me up (even if borlogs lang ako lagi haha), eat somewhere delicious (and healthy) or attend mass together. The next day, she would have to wakeup early, drive me to hospital just so I won't be late for duty. We had one month rotation from private to public hospital, and she (& my sisters) are always with me transferring to and from one dorm to another, all year round. Surely can't live without them, tehee.
My mom is my energy booster: those times when I'm having my major rotations, she would always check on me if I have eaten, how my day was and if I was able to sleep that night of my duty. She would always remind me to grab a snack or take a nap (if time permits!) & drink lots of water.
My mom is a wonderwoman: she can do everything -- work at school, attend to our needs, be with her friends, quality time with our family/relatives and be the best wife and Mom :)
My mom is my piece of mind: my favorite part of the week are Fridays and weekends because I get to go home and see you all. Even if super sleepy naka, todo listen kapa din karing unending kwento ku at bedtime. Hehehe, love you! Never ending.
My mom is my mentor: remembered her telling me to treat and talk to my future patients the right and "gentle" way and that not all people you meet, we can please, but whatever circumstance may come, always be the kinder & understanding one. Family and God are what matter most in life.
My mom is selfless : most often than not, all throughout this year, our schedule was dependent on my pre-duty-from status. My Mom would always adjust for me, on when I am available or when I am free. She will always make time for me, for all of us to always be together.
My mom is my shock absorber: during the times when I cannot handle things anymore, the words of wisdom of my Mom comforts me the best. She's my one call away. Then I'm ready to fight again :)
My mom is my safekeeper: the time when we had to stay for 2 weeks in Manila (my first time) for our duty, she made sure all I needed was there and brought me to and from our place. Kahit naman maka-dorm naku, you would always make sure I'm safe and I'm home, every single day. Hehe :)
My mom is my motivator: you are my "I can" to all my "I can'ts" and my "You will" to all of my "What ifs". You take all the negativities in me and make me believe how beautiful and positive life can be.
The list can go on about the best things about you; there are so many of them, really! Thank you for everything. I will make it up to everything you and Daddy have done for us, in God's grace and power. May God shine His light upon you and give you more strength each day. A lot of us adore and are amazed by you, Mama. As I always say, my greatest gift in life is to be your daughter & be the sister to my sisters. Happy Mother's Day, Mama! Love you, always! Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ❤️❤️❤️

Where did time go? How time flies!!! Nakatulog lang ako tapos na nga Clerkship? Charot, before, sobrang hirap for me to take a nap or have siesta time. But this year, I learned to never waste any time that I can spend sleeping (anywhere, anyhow -- talaga naman ilalaban mo siya). Quick naps are the best, totoo nga. Hahaha, you never know what can and will happen, so grab lang ng grab pag may chance. Photos taken during our Surgery Rotation by our residents ("huli ka balbon", just want to keep them here!!! 😴🙈😅

OBGYNE: First Love (since Nursing) Never Dies ❤️
Can’t forget the memories I had in the Labor/Delivery/Operating/Admitting/OPD Room – first child born on my hands (First Day naka 4 ako Vaginal Deliveries, On My Own), my first “baby out”, my first episiorrhaphy (December 17, 2017), first time I did skin closure, first speculum exam, first OPD consultations, internal examinations & even had babies coming out even before their mom reach the delivery room (NKKLK anywhere ituuu). Sobrang excited ko din to assist on Gyne/OB cases. Kudos to all my residents for teaching me and answering my queries 🙌🏻
“Nakita ko na mga ginawa mo (cesarean section skin closure), ang ganda, kala ko ako gumawa *I died of super kiligz*. Ikaw ang protege ko.” - Doc Dabu (December 27, 2017) 🙈🙌🏻💘
Things may change in the future, but this specialty has been in my heart, ever since 🏩 Hoping and praying for guidance for the future and the unknown – that whatever path I might pursue, may it be the right one and God’s choice for me 💕

Almost there… 💃🏻 #Clerkship2017 Twelfth Month of Clerkship;
Can't imagine myself saying I am nearly or even almost done with my clerkship. Where did those eleven months actually go? Clerkship, they say, is the most of most *insert adjective here* part of being a Doctor, to the point that no one wants to wish to go back to this part of their journey. But for most of my experience, I have to say, all and every bit of it -- each day full of a rollercoaster ride, all the patients seen/admitted and the memories that we shared with my groupmates, senior interns, residents and consultants in our hospital stay, were all worth it. I would not deny the times when I felt tired, sleepy and not functional anymore; but those did not stop me from doing what's right and for the benefit of our patients.
Those hours of sleep, I learned to sacrifice just to stay awake and monitor or attend to the needs of our patients. Those tired feet need not to stay put and rest because someone else's needs to follow up for a blood or a laboratory result for the patient. Those midnight where everyone should be taking their time to rest and sleep, you stay awake to prepare for the endorsement and conference the next day just so the other receiving doctors would know the condition of the patients newly admitted. Those urgent times that you are just about to eat your meal but somebody else's need you presence, asap. Those moments when are almost always responsible to everyone else's commands.
Those moments, we knew we were essential. We are needed and all of it was part of our training in becoming better health care providers. Looking back, not all was pleasant and nice; but everything in this year was a great contribution on how strong, compassionate and resilient we came out to be as future doctors. Knowledge does not always equate greatness. The attitude and experience we learn and expose ourselves into, make us the person we will become someday. These humble beginnings in our career make us who we are in the future. And just how my mentors and seniors have treated me -- how kind, nurturing, genuine, loving and generous they are to their patients and colleagues; it will always be the same way I will treat my future colleagues and patients in the profession, too.
Congrats, self!!! Cheers on that one year of a dreaded yet worth it and meaningful rollercoaster ride in your last year as a Medical Student. Here's to that MD we're all claiming for this 2018!!!

From one of my favorite motivational authors, Francis Kong once said, "Be the person God wants you to be. Do the things God wants you to do. Man's approval is not required—it’s not helpful, and it’s not relevant. Don’t allow your life to be governed by other people’s opinions for they are mere opinions and they do not define you. Not everyone has to like you but do not hate them. Life is always a matter of taste and standards. Just because everybody is doing it may not mean it’s the right thing to do. Always choose to do what is right. You are who you are and who God meant you to be." Always remember that :)

My Clerkship Prayer;
For a blessed Sunday, just wanna share with you my “Clerkship Prayer” that has kept me grounded and provided me grace everyday and night of my duty at the hospital. It has been my wallpaper during tough times and good ones, and has been providing me with so much strength each day that passes by.
Each time I solemnly say… “Today I am praying for guidance in all that I do, in people I will be working with and for the people I will be encountering. Bless me, Oh, Lord. May your grace shine upon me always. Give me wisdom to discern what is right along with perseverance, patience and confidence to accomplish and learn from each day as it passes by. May you give me strength and power to overcome any hardship and obstacle. For with you, I am and will always be strong. Amen.”
May your Sunday be as blessed!!! And may His grace and mercy be showered upon you. God bless!!! ^_^
